First dance/first fight/first child (they're all at least mentioned).
Got My Mind Set On You
Draco grinned as he looked down at the witch in his arms. Never had he seen her look as beautiful as this—her hair had been styled into an elegant updo, and her dress hugged her body in all the right places, showing off the slight bump that told the world they were expecting their first child.
She met his eyes, and Draco chuckled, thinking about how ridiculous he would have found this situation ten years ago. Although, if he was being honest, ten years ago the thought of marriage would never have even crossed his mind.
Cameras clicked over the music from the band that was currently playing an old Muggle song which he could not for the life of him remember the name of. He'd have to find out what it was, though—his new wife would never let him live if he forgot the song playing during their first dance; she'd almost hexed him for not making her a coffee a couple of days ago. He blamed the stress, and the hormones, although he'd never admit the latter out loud as she'd already threatened to hex him if he ever suggested they were making her even slightly unstable (which, he thought, they totally were).
Draco tuned his ears to actually listen to the song playing. After a couple more spins around the floor, he realised how fitting the song was for their relationship—the singer went from saying you need money to make things work to saying you needed time to do the same. During the early stages of their relationship, Draco would always throw money at a problem in the hopes it would fix it, whereas his wife (he smiled as he thought the word, still not used to the way it sounded) would insist on taking the time to work through it properly. He was much more accepting of the fact that time was better at fixing things now, but he'd never forget the problems he managed to cause before he worked that out.
"You're so bloody selfish, Draco Malfoy!" she yelled, throwing the nearest object at him. Thankfully for Draco, it was a pillow.
"Calm down, it was an honest mistake. We'll just do something at the weekend." Draco stretched his arms out to try and comfort her, but all she did was bat them away.
"I have spent weeks planning this day. Weeks! We can't just 'do something at the weekend', especially not when it's a bank holiday. Everything will be fully booked."
"Sweetheart," Draco called, hoping the pet name she secretly loved so much would soothe her, "no place is ever truly fully booked. Not for the right price, at least."
She gasped audibly. "Draco Lucius Malfoy, you are an adult now! You can't just go around throwing money at things and hope it'll make all your problems will go away. Sometimes, especially in relationships, it's taking the time out of your day to fix it that counts."
"Well, why can't we do both? I spend the money, and we get to spend a nice weekend together. All the time we could want," Draco reasoned, a slight chuckle in his voice, ready to play it off as a joke if there was an objection.
"You're so… so… so insufferable sometimes!" she yelled, tears forming in her eyes as she marched into the kitchen, slamming the door behind her.
Fuck, Draco thought, I forgot to take my lunch from the counter.
Draco's day at work was agonisingly slow. All he could think about was the fight from the morning and how he could make up for it. At lunch, he went into Muggle London and got his girlfriend the biggest bunch of irises from a flower shop he knew she liked. He debated buying her a jewellery set that he remembered her eyeing up a couple of weeks before, but something told Draco this wouldn't be solved with expensive gifts.
"Hey, Amber?" Draco called upon returning to his office.
She stuck her head out from between two filing cabinets from the far end of the room. "Are those for me?" she asked mockingly as she spotted the flowers. "Draco, you shouldn't have."
"Very funny. What's the calendar like for this afternoon?"
"You have a meeting with Ernie Macmillan at three, but I can take it if you'd rather go home. By the looks of those flowers, you have a lot of apologising to do."
"You don't know the half of it. I forgot to take the day off and now I've ruined all her plans." He sighed. "You sure you don't mind taking the meeting? You and Macmillan never saw eye to eye at school, did you?"
"We may have exchanged a few sharp words," she admitted. "He was just rather loud in the common room. Every night. I wasn't the only one who disliked it, I was just the only one that said something about it."
"And he held a grudge for how long?"
"All five years he was there before I graduated." She sighed. "Go on. I'm sure he's forgotten all about it by now. You apologise to your girlfriend, and maybe take her away this weekend as a surprise to make up for it—that always makes my girlfriend forgive me."
Draco laughed. "Not much of a surprise. I suggested it earlier and she walked out on me."
Amber shook her head. "You idiot. Something like that is meant to be a surprise, not something you tell her about. How she's put up with you for the last year is beyond me." She let out a soft chuckle. "Go. Apologise."
Draco Apparated to just outside the front door of his shared home, irises in hand. He took a deep breath as he opened the door, peeking in first to make sure he wasn't about to be hexed.
"Sweetheart, I'm home," he called as he opened the door fully.
A head appeared from inside the kitchen.
"Oh, so you decided to come home early. Did you think that would make it up to me? Well, too bad. I have company and we're just about to head out. Come on, Ginny."
Draco stood, mouth open, as he watched the two witches exit the kitchen and walk past him out the front door without a word.
"What are you laughing at?"
A soft voice pulled him out of the memory and he looked into the brown eyes staring up at him.
"I'm just thinking about our first anniversary when we had that big fight. It took me almost two weeks to make it up to you."
"It took longer than two weeks," she laughed. "I just chose to stop ignoring you after two weeks."
"You ran out of books to read, you mean?" Draco joked.
"Maybe," she admitted with another laugh.
As the song ended, the crowd circling the floor began to applaud.
"Promise me you'll never stay mad at me for that long again."
"As long as you promise never to make up for it with irises again."
"What's so wrong with irises?" he asked mockingly. "Other than your allergies, of course."
He received a light hit on his chest and he used the action to pull the witch closer and draw her into a deep kiss.
When the kiss broke, she looked up into his eyes.
"I love you, Draco Malfoy."
"And I love you, Hermione Malfoy."
