Wayne Enterprises.

11:00 am

"We're going to take this project and twist it into a way that no one will forget." A young man walked around the conference room, carefully looking into the eyes of those around the table that centered it. The Elites of the Elites. They watched on as the man's words rang into their ears. Interest peaking with the subject at hand. He stopped behind the chair of a young woman, hands sliding over the top edge of the seat as he leaned in over her shoulder.

"As the future CEO of Wayne Enter – "

"Let me stop you right there, Cris."

The air tensed immediately as the man's face became taunt. His eyes closed as a soft sigh escaped his thin lips, fanning the woman's shoulder. He straightened himself and plastered a fake smile onto his face as he turned to scrutinize the entrance.

"Mr. Fox," he greeted with his arms opened at his side, "how nice of you to join us." Taking a few steps forward, he extended his hand which Fox disregarded.

"Right, well what can I do for you today?"

Lucius, with raised eyebrows, let his face contort into a look of amusement. He stepped around the auburn man, tapping his shoulder gently. "You can start by thinking about what position you would love most here, Mr. Lauffey."

Cris let out a chuckle, "Well if you had let me finish you would know that I am the next CEO of this company, Mr. Fox."

As Lucius reached the glass wall his gaze was amongst the beautiful city below, how the years made it look so gloomy at times. His hands folded behind him. "On who's authority Mr. Lauffey? Certainly not from any one of these fine people I'm sure."

The silence in the room was deathly, no one brave enough to speak up against the Wayne's most trusted employee. Cris scoffed, "It's not like anyone else is running things here. Am I right?" Looking around at the committee as most avoided his stare and others gave a slight nod in agreement.

"We haven't seen Bruce Wayne in God knows how long. He's most likely out in some country getting wasted. We don't need to work for someone like that."

"I would be careful with what you say Mr. Lauffey."

"I am done with being careful." Cris' voice began to rise a few octaves, causing some of the members who were trying not to indulge look at him in surprise. "A brat like him can't run a company like this!"

"I guess we're just going to have to see about that."

Shock was etched in everyone's heart as their heads swiftly turned to the new presence at the door. Cris' mouth fell agape as a small smirk spread across Lucius'.

"Welcome back Mr. Wayne."

Gotham University

11:15 am

The sun shined brightly over the courtyard, illuminating Mother Nature's beauty. It was finally one of Gotham's beautiful days with no trace of fog or dreariness in sight. The birds sung their morning tune as the butterflies danced through the gardens. The gaudy fountain glistened underneath the rays and there I sat at its marble edge, mesmerized. Lost within my own mind and waiting patiently so I wasn't too early for my next class.

It's been a few days since my little accident and I still can't believe what had occurred. After breakfast, Jack and I had gone back to my apartment to pick up a few of my belongings so I can stay with him now that he returned. Apparently his "roommates" no longer felt the appeal to the penthouse so they left it for him. Not that I was complaining, they gave me such a peculiar vibe. I feel like I know them and I can't help but to absolutely despise them. For no reason whatsoever, they filled me with dread and disgust, so trust me when I say I was more than relieved to hear they wouldn't be staying with Jack.

"Hales!"

I looked up from my stupor, a bit startled as I wasn't expecting to have company. I didn't even want to be here but Jack insisted I continued with my studies for some odd reason. As I looked up a feeling of dismay pooled into me but with a force smile, I waved in greeting.

"Hello, Jaime." My gaze shot back to the fountain as I unconsciously tucked a pale strand behind my ear. I felt her presence as she took a seat next to me, her brown eyes lingering deeply onto my face.

"What's up? We haven't seen you around in so long. Is everything ok?"

Her voice… It sounded so sweet, like fresh honey. The genuine concern made me want to vomit. I dare not look at her, I couldn't help it. She was always so nice and it was infuriating every time.

"Yup. Peachy."

She sighed quietly, "You know Hales, I'm your friend. You can tell me if something is bothering you."

I stayed silent. What does she know about being a friend. My friend. We met during the orientation, just about a month ago. She knows nothing of me but will sit there and claim friendship. My only friend is Jack.

'Barely.'

I glanced sharply at Jaime, her chocolate orbs not letting up. "I'm fine, Jaime."

With furrowed brows, she shrugged. "Well I tried, I gotta head to class. Don't be such a stranger, okay?" Gathering her things, she readied to leave. "By the way, your hair looks good down." With one last smile to show off her perfect set of teeth, she was off.

'Annoying twat.'

"She's too nice." I uttered to myself as I turned my attention back to the fountain, a soft breeze making its way through my locks.

Wayne Enterprises

12:45 pm

"You sure know how to make an entrance, Mr. Wayne." Lucius pushed out one of the now empty chairs and took a seat as he glanced at the young entrepreneur.

Bruce now took the former place of Lucius, overlooking the city below. His gaze was calculating as he contemplated what had occurred at the meeting. It seems as if his negligence to the company had people constantly feeling comfortable enough to try and maroon him. "I hope he won't become a problem, Lucius." He turned and made his way closer, a hand running smoothly over his dark hair.

"Oh, don't worry about Cris. Just a wound to his pride but it will do him good. I can assure you, you won't even know he's here." Lucius straightened himself out, running a quick hand over his suit jacket before bringing his attention back to Bruce.

"I feel as if there is something else troubling you, Mr. Wayne."

Bruce's blue orbs took a hasty glance at the closed double doors before closing in on his colleague. Placing his palms against the table, he leaned forward. "I need you to look into the murder of Brookelle Cabman."

The seriousness etched onto Bruce's face told Lucius this was more than just a quick investigation into a former business partner. "Do you think it had something to do with our latest project?"

Bruce stood and began to slowly pace, "No. Do you remember that kidnapping a few years ago?"

Lucius' eyebrows shot up in surprise at the lost memory.

"But of course, you think it could be related?"

The troubled young man stopped his pacing and looked at the older ally with intensity. "There's only one way to find out."

Richardsville Complex

1:15 pm

Tick. Tick. Tick.

The silence. Jack welcomed it. The luxury of fancy places was something he could not get used to but, the privacy he could.

The day seemed to slip through his fingers as he sat in the middle of the living room floor. Blonde tendrils dripping fresh bath water down his bare shoulders and making small stains onto his jeans. With a deep sigh, he looked up at the time and instantly became irritated. Just a few minutes now and those idiots he works with will be making their grand entrance.

'Fucking morons.'

Outstretching his arms behind him, he placed his hands onto the ground and casually leaned back. The blonde enigma popped into his head and he was thankful for the momentary distraction but not for long.

'I wouldn't be in this damn mess if it wasn't for her. Can't keep a low profile for shit.'

The attention that his crew had on the beautiful woman infuriated him.

'She's mine.'

The loud screeching of gears came to a halt as the lifting of metal gates followed. Jack let out a frustrated groan as footsteps came closer.

"Jacky boy!"

The strong Italian accent echoed throughout the apartment as a stocky gentleman limped his way through.

"Tony." Came Jacks exasperated reply. He made his way up off the ground as his boss came through, the three goofballs close behind.

"C'mere ya big meat head. Don't act so surprise ta see me, aye!" Tony placed a meaty hand onto Jack's shoulder, his rings glistening, and pulled Jack into a side hug before quickly pushing him away.

"Where's doll face?" The boss man limped his way towards one of the hallways, giving a quick look around. The three young men that followed took a seat on the couch before giving Jack a quick nod in greeting.

"School."

A dark laugh escaped one of the men, "Out here playing house huh, Jack?"

With shoulders now hunched in annoyance, Jack looked over. His face grim. The young man that spoke, Trevor, always tried to provoke Jack in ways that should be illegal.

"When I'm done playing Daddy, I'll make sure she skins every tattoo off your body and make a collage out of it."

"Ha," he leaned forward, arms now resting on his knees. "When you're done playing Daddy, I'm gonna take over and make her scream Daddy in every way imaginable."

"Oh shit," the youngest of the group groaned as he sat to the left of Trevor. His head now in the palm of his hand. 'Every. Time.'

There was no calming Jack. His blood went to his iris' and in less than a second he pounced. His hands barely catching Trevor's throat before the third man jumped in between, cutting off what would soon had been a blood bath.

"Aye, Trev. Knock it off. Why ya gotta be a prick." Tony's voice boomed from the other end of the room. Jack's breathing was like a rabid dog's as Trevor laughed maliciously.

"I'm just sayin Boss, why does Jack get dibs? Last time I checked she belonged to us. She probably feels great huh, Jack? Nice and tight." Trevor bit his lip and his eyes rolled back teasingly.

"Get the fuck out of the way, Eric." In all reality, Jack didn't need Eric to move. He could have easily pushed him aside and killed this fuck. He respected Eric though and the last thing he needed was to be in bad terms with the boss.

Tony rolled his eyes, limping his way over he pinched the back of Jack's neck and smacked the back of Trevor's head. "Cut it out."

Taking a moment before stepping away, Eric glanced at Jack. A look of sympathy was fixed on his face, making Jack scowl. Eric sat back down in his seat as the younger man pulled on Trevor's arm, forcing him back down as well.

"Now that you animals are calm," Tony brushed off his tailored suit before continuing. "I'm glad she ain't here. Gives us some time. Falcone got another hit for us and I'ma need all hands on deck here." He paused and looked forcefully at Jack. "All hands."

Jack scoffed, "When's this for? She won't be ready."

Tony slicked his hair back, the grease causing a slight shine. "I don't give a damn, as long as she can do what she does. Trevor here couldn't help but give the GCPD a damn house warming last time and now people have been sniffin' Jack. You know how I feel about them sniffers." He took a quick glance around the apartment once again. "Ya gonna have to get a new spot too."

With a shrug Jack replied, "I didn't care for this place much anyways."

"Okay," Tony clapped his hands loudly, making sure he had everyone's attention. "Now the hit isn't until another week. That should give you enough time Jacky. We'll meet up again before that to discuss how shit is gonna go down. Now that Gotham knows we're up again, we gotta stay low. Take Princess outta school, she's gonna get recognized with all the damn publicity creepin up again."

With a snap of his fingers, the men stood. "I gotta go handle some other clients." He limped his way towards the exit, the rest following close behind. "Jacky, don't forget. Besides this ya got by the end of tha month. Shorty here will make sure ya girlfriend aint in the system."

The younger boy, Shorty, waved at Jack and Jack gave a blank look in return. He watched impatiently as they made their way out but before he could take a breath of relief Tony turned around swiftly, "Oh, and Jacky boy? Smile. Ya killin me."
