I sighed when I woke up the next morning. Yup, still blind. But I suppose that is what it is. Nothing I could do about it now that everybody in the school knew. I'm not sure I even want to get it changed, but it's hard to tell. I got up and did my usual morning routine. Then I realized, now that everybody knows two things change. One, I don't have to come early anymore, and two I no longer need, nor really want, to wear my hood. I reached up and ran a hand through my hair. It wasn't great but at this point I couldn't care less. I knew that kids at school already stare at me, just one more thing to get them to stare at me for. That, or to get them to look away from my ugliness. I just shook my head and ate my breakfast. I took my time too, as I didn't have to get there so early anymore. When I finally got set and decided to head out, I ran straight into Lord Death. Literally, he was walking outside of the school when I got there and I ran into him.
"Oh! Hey there Fallen! how goes it?" He spoke so casually...in that light voice.
"I'm alright Mi'lord. Wh-wh-what brings you out of the Death Room?" My voice was shaky and I tried to keep my surprise and anger out of it. I still disliked him, even though he gave me back my right to do solo missions.
"Why, I was looking for you! I wanted to talk to you before class started so this is perfect!"
I sighed under my breath and smiled as we walked off. He purposefully was making a lot of noise, mostly by talking. I know it was purposeful because he repeated several things. He just wanted to make sure I knew where he was. That only made me angrier. I wasn't so helpless that I couldn't figure that out without his help. I heard some murmurs about me on the way up but...less than I was expecting. Don't get me wrong, a lot of people were but still, less than I was expecting. I guess it's because they feared or respected me now. It's always hard to tell which it is. Anyway, we went up and he sat me down. I was thankful when he switched to his deep voice. I guess he knows that I hate his kiddy voice.
"Well Fallen, here is the problem. I know of a certain witch who is starting to gain more and more power. Normally I would send a much stronger meister and weapon pair, but you see I think you will be much better for this particular witch. I hate to say this because it feels like I'm saying I'm glad you were blinded, but she tends to use magic that affects a person only if they see it. Illusion magic mostly."
I grimaced at him, I had to grimace instead of glare because well, you know. Anyway, I thought over what he said. A witch's soul would greatly empower me, but...that would mean leaving and having a good chance to die. I kept thinking it over as I sipped my tea. I slowly started to nod my head.
"alright, I agree to take on this witch for you, on the condition that I get to completely destroy her."
He nodded, or I guessed he did as he spoke.
"Of course, I wouldn't expect anything less from you."
I grinned and stood up, smiling at him. "well, I probably should head to class."
I went down to class, which was uneventful. I debated heading down to the basketball court, but decided against it. I gathered up my stuff and was about to leave class when Stein stopped me.
"Hey Fallen, a word if I may."
I blinked a couple times, I still had eyelids even if I didn't have eyes, and nodded. I stopped and let the rest of the class leave so we could talk in private like I assumed he wanted to
"Fallen, listen. I know you're planning on taking on a witch and I should tell you, be very careful. You're not the first meisterless weapon to face her, and the last one never even came back. The rumors we've heard are that she tries to get all meisterless weapons that come to fight her to join her, sometimes even weapons with meisters. Do not let her deceive you into betraying us. Eating human souls will not help you. It will not make you strong."
I shrugged and didn't answer him. I just left and went to my room. Depending on what this witch offered, I could see how some stupid souls would take up with her. Judging from what Stein said, we have a big problem on our hands. I don't want to fight a weapon from the academy, even if I had beaten Justin Law. I bit my lower lip and thought things over. She could be a tough one. If it's true that she mostly relied on magic that requires the enemy to see it than I would be ok, much more than that though I'm not could get rough if I didn't know what to expect. Seeing is very tough to deal without, but I have to deal without it. I sighed and went to sleep, who knows how things might change for me.
When I woke up the next morning I found a plane ticket waiting for me. It said I was going to a city called Chicago. I knew it well actually, I'd been there many times. Crazy place, and not a place I'd expect an -actual- witch. I know plenty of 'witches' in there but they were those who seduced men and got payed for sex. I hated that kind of woman. Evil to the core. I sighed as I looked at the time for when I was scheduled to leave. A late night flight was perfect for me, and it was. I went to school as normal, but wasn't expecting Black Star to challenge me. Him without a weapon and me without a meister. I declined but he wouldn't let that be. Stein was the one who interfered finally and stopped him. Other than that, the day was uneventful. I wore a hoodie and only removed the hood for the security guards at the airport. It was an uneventful flight, the guy who sat next to me was trying to hit on me till I had my finger turn into a blade. Then he was carefully silent. I had a hotel room booked and was ready for sleep when I got there. I got a taxi and eventually made my way there. I was...surprised at what it was. In all honesty Stein had booked the hotel for me. I hadn't been planning on sleeping at all till this job was done but he insisted, even payed for it. I set my stuff down and sighed contently. It was an amazing room indeed from what I could feel. The bed certainly was nice and soft so I decided to lay down and turn out the lights. It was time for sleep.
