Well it's been a crazy long time since I've looked at this. I've had a lot of big life transitions, but one thing I can tell you is: college is great! Midterms just finished and I remembered about leaving this story kinda hanging, so, here. Thanks to those of you sticking with me through all the lag periods and especially to those who leave reviews. I love hearing what you guys think.
"Hurry, hurry!"
"Don't do it Gary!"
"It's not worth it!"
"I must. I made a promise."
Against a blazing sunset, Gary Oak stood at the entrance of the Academy draped in a simple white towel. Ash, Dawn, May, and Drew stood behind him eagerly. Just moments before, an epic game of Egyptian Ratscrew took place, with the winner receiving the right to command one person to do whatever they want. In a stroke of card-playing brilliance, Drew ousted Gary and the rest by using his eidetic memory to count his own cards and memorize when to slap. He didn't tell anyone else, but Ash gave him a few stoic, quizzical stares. Remembering a time not too long ago when Gary had imposed a similarly vulgar dare on him, he used this opportunity to call the score, not even, but advantage Drew.
"Okay let's review," Drew started, "All you have to do is drop the towel, run a lap around the first floor, and come back out. I have your clothes right here. I checked the teacher's schedules and they should all be teaching makeup classes right now. You leave in," Drew checked his watch, "A minute and ten seconds."
Solemnly, Gary walked to the doors like a man heading to the gallows. He looked up to the glorious sky and its waves of vast clouds.
"Dear Grandpa. I'm so sorry, but the rules of brotherhood require me to follow through on my wagers. I regret the defacing of the Academy that I'm about to initiate. I love you, and I'll see you on the other side. Or I mean. I hope I won't. Not that side. I mean. You know what I mean, amen."
He imagined his Grandpa's gruff face in the clouds saying, "Godspeed, Gary."
As Gary prepared himself for a run no one would be able to unsee, Dawn turned to Drew.
"Why did you choose such a specific time?" Drew laughed, then whispered in a low voice.
"I'm good friends with the security detail." Dawn's eyes widened; Drew quickly turned to Gary.
"Ready?"
"You mean, is the world ready for this?" He used both of his pointer fingers to outline the primary part of the exhibit.
"In three-"
"You know Drew, I-"
"Two-"
"Dunno about this-"
"One-"
"Pleasepleasepleasenoooo-"
"GO!"
Despite his average leg length and subpar level of fitness, Gary considered himself to be a pretty fast runner. He threw down the towel to the cackling of his friends and entered the Academy, feeling freedom like never before. As he rounded the first corner, he came upon a poor freshman girl just waiting for a friend to finish a makeup class. Thankfully, she didn't scream, but opened her mouth like in a silent horror film from the late 20's.
'It's just one casualty. I can do this.'
He reached the second corner with ease, and the third without a single other sighting.
But as he came towards the last corner, all the bells in the school rang with the pitch and incessant volume for that of a tornado. The lights turned an emergency red and the once noiseless building came alive with the sounds of opening doors and stomping feet. As hundreds of students poured out into the east wing hallway, their eyes ordered them to break and some people even fell over because of the confusion. Then they saw it.
Gary Oak came. People saw. Academy security conquered.
