A/N - Just a little bit of feels. Popped into my head yesterday afternoon, and thought it fit in with the 'second pregnancy' theme of two of the previous chapters. Happy new episode day! :)
Bouncing her legs up and down as she drummed her fingers on her thighs in anticipation, Penny resumed chewing on her lip. It was probably going to start bleeding soon if she didn't stop, but she couldn't help it. She'd put some lip balm on in a few minutes and hope for the best.
"Mommy! When we gonna go shop!" Isabel's voice yelled from down the hallway. She had definitely inherited Penny's impatience.
Jumping from the shock slightly, Penny refrained from snapping at her daughter, clenching her fists and squeezing her eyes shut. "In a bit, sweetie!"
Taking a deep breath and reminding herself to try and stay calm, Penny unclenched her fists and re-opened her eyes, and began tapping her feet impatiently on the floor. It wasn't that she was angry, but her anxiety had built throughout the day and was being released in a wide variety of emotions as a form of outlet.
The fact that she was almost ninety nine percent certain what the answer was only made her even more anxious, because she was worried that the answer would be the one percent that she wasn't hoping for. Within all the excitement there was a trickle of fear and doubt, and she took it as a sort of good thing. You could never be completely certain.
The timer on her phone went off, and she quickly hit the button to make it stop. Taking a deep breath she was certain her yoga instructor would be proud of had she been there to watch, Penny picked up the pregnancy test in front of her.
Pregnant.
And then the second one, because Leonard had taught her to always justify a result.
Pregnant.
"Yes!" The word whooshed out of her lips with relief, a massive grin spreading across her face. "Yes! Oh my God! Yes!"
Jumping off the couch with a stick in each hand, Penny did a small victory dance around the kitchen and living area. Heart racing, she skipped back over to the coffee table, transferring both tests into her left hand and reaching out for her phone with her right, before stopping abruptly.
"I really should wash my hands," she muttered to herself. Dancing back over to the kitchen, she wrapped both tests in some kitchen paper and dropped them in her purse, which was hanging on one of the chairs at the small dining table to the side of the island counter. "I really hope those don't end up near my packet of gum."
Grabbing the disinfectant spray and a cloth from beneath the sink, she did an enthusiastic walk back to the coffee table, spraying some of the disinfectant onto the cloth. Wiping quickly over the back of her phone, she dropped it onto the couch before wiping down the spot she'd placed the pregnancy tests.
Satisfied it was now safe to be used as a coffee table again, she returned the spray and threw out the cloth, before washing her hands thoroughly, still grinning.
Once she had dried her hands, Penny picked her phone up from the couch and quickly unlocked it, heading straight to her text conversation with Leonard. For a moment, she paused as she considered what to tell him. She was too excited to not text him right now, but she didn't want tell him the good news over the phone.
You busy today? Might stop by with Is after shopping. Love you x
Biting her lip once she had hit send, Penny realized Leonard would probably guess something was up by the fact she put 'love you' at the end of her text. She didn't normally put it there unless she was asking for something or was particularly happy. Of course, she did still put it for no reason occasionally, but only rarely. Considering they were married and had a child together (and were having another), they had grown away from putting it at the end of their messages to each other.
Locking her phone again, Penny headed down the hallway and into her daughters room. We're going to have to tidy this room up so we can fit in a second child, Penny thought, stepping into the bedroom. It was a large room, only neither of them had ever been concerned with telling Isabel to keep it tidy. They cleaned it, yes, but if she was happy to have her toys out all over the room, then they weren't going to tell her off for that.
"We going shop now?" Isabel asked, as her mother stepped in. "What you looking at?"
"Just thinking, at some point we'll need to tidy this room up, don't you think?" Penny crouched down, holding out her arms.
"Okay." Isabel stepped over to hug Penny. "But we gonna go shop now? Daddy said you gonna buy ice cream for me."
"Of course. Anything you want!" Penny grinned, lifting Isabel as she stood, giving her daughter a big kiss on her forehead. "Mommy will buy you anything you want, baby girl."
"Marshmallows!" Isabel gasped, her eyes wide.
"Absolutely." Penny giggled, walking down the hallway, and placing Isabel down by the door when her phone buzzed in her pocket. "Put your shoes on baby girl, okay?"
"Can I pick what ones?"
"Sure⦠just not the green ones!"
"But they got the rockets on them!" Isabel protested.
"They don't match your Princess t-shirt!" Penny pointed out. "And we might be seeing Daddy later."
Isabel grinned and clapped her hands together excitedly. "Okay. No green sneakers. If we gonna see Daddy I wanna wear my Princess t-shirt. Green ones tomorrow."
"Good plan, sweetie." Penny giggled, ruffling Isabel's hair, before pulling out her phone. She unlocked it quickly upon seeing it was a reply from Leonard.
Not particularly. That would be great! Don't forget to buy her ice cream or you won't hear the end of it. Can you pick up some shaving cream and some oatmeal pots for work please? Love you too x
"Mommy can you do my laces please?" Isabel shuffled over to Penny.
"Huh?" Penny looked up from her phone, grinning, blinking for a moment. "Oh, yeah, of course." Pocketing her phone again, Penny bent down to tie the laces of her daughters pink and white Hello Kitty sneakers. This next kid is getting shoes that do up with Velcro.
