Alex yawned as she took a seat next to Adam at the lunch table. She was surprised that the janitor had left the tables together, letting the Ducks and Squad to sit together. Also Doni, Ashley, Billy and Terry.
"Man it's good to see that you are all the same." Terry said after watching Alex and Fulton get into a thumb war over who was going to get Julie's extra roll. Fulton had given the roll to Alex, even though he had won, after getting a few kicks to the shin under the table. Alex winked over at Terry as she took a large bit out of the roll. She felt her phone buzz in her back pocket and she opened it with out checking who it was from. As she read the message, her face paled. She dropped the remainder of her roll on her plate and quickly left the cafeteria.
"Was it something I said?" Terry asked confused. He looked up and down the table to see the others looked as confused as she did. Adam got to his feet and quickly raced after her. He looked up and down the hall, but couldn't find her any where. He started to head for the dorms when he saw Portman rushing up to Alex where she was sitting next to one of the large trees. Even from the distance he was at, he could tell that she was crying. But the moment she saw who had walked up to her, she flung her arms around his shoulders and started to cry even harder. Adam could feel his jealousy bubbling deep inside of him. If he went to them now, all he would do was make Alex worse. But the one thing that got to him the most, was how Alex clung to Portman, as if she needed his comfort. Not Adam's but Portmans. Angrily Adam turned away from the scene and walked back to the cafeteria.
"What's wrong with her?" Charlie asked when Adam sat back down.
Adam just shrugged. "I didn't get the chance to ask."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Doni asked as she seemed to be the only one that noticed the venom in the boys voice. And there was only one person that got that reaction out of him.
"Go ask your brother." Adam snarled back as he got back to his feet and stormed off.
"Damn, is that triangle still happening?" Jesse asked in complete shock. Every one turned and glared at him and Jesse threw his hands up in the air. "Hey don't kill me for asking. I've been out of the loop for almost four years. Some one needs to catch me up here."
"I'll let one of the girls take that over." Charlie said with a heavy sigh. "I'm going to go find Adam."
Charlie headed out of the building, hoping that Adam had gone to their room. He wasn't in the mood to go searching for his best friend at the moment. But the moment he walked out side he realized what had gotten Adam in such a mood. Sitting up against one of the big trees where Alex and Portman. Alex was leaning on his shoulder, while he had his arm around her and held on to her hand. Charlie walked up to them and Portman got to his feet.
"Don't stop on my account." Charlie growled at him. "Adam has already seen the two of you. Maybe you should have thought about a more private spot."
"What the hell are you talking about man?" Portman said with a growl. He wasn't about to put up with Charlie's attitude, even if he was his captain. "I saw her sitting by the tree crying so came to see what was up."
"So you both decide to get all cuddly?" Charlie asked in disbelief. "I really thought you where better than that Alex. Or maybe we where all just stupid enough to believe you both stopped being a thing when you got back with Adam."
Alex felt her tears starting again as she got to her feet and slapped Charlie hard across the face. She threw her phone at him and then quickly walked away from him. She didn't want to reply. The damage was done. If that is what Charlie thought of her, she didn't want to think what the others would think. She got into her car and drove home. Rosy wasn't home. She had a large project going in the city a couple hours away and wouldn't be home in a few days, Alex just needed the comforts of her room at that moment. Not some dorm bed with three over protective room mates. She didn't need the three of them to see her crying.
Alex laid down on her bed and looked up at her ceiling. Tears started to well up once more as she looked up at the pictures of her and Adam she had placed there over the years. But this time, they weren't how she left them.
"Alex!" Alex almost screamed at the sound of some one calling her name from down stairs.
"Bedroom." Alex called back. A few seconds later Amanda was in her room. Hands on her hips and a look ready to kill.
"What the hell did you do to him?" Amanda growled at her. Alex sat up on her bed and shook her head.
"Nothing." Alex said quietly. That seemed to anger Amanda even more.
"Don't nothing me!" Amanda growled. "I love you like my own sister, but right now I want to beat the hell out of you! He came home and has been tearing up his room. You are the only one that can get to him like that, now I want to know what the hell you did to my brother!"
"I didn't do any thing." Alex said simply as she got to her feet and walked up to Amanda. "I'd kinda like to be left alone though. Do you mind just going back home. Tell him I don't know what I did, but if he's mad at me I'm sorry. Tell him I love him. and I'm sorry for everything."
Amanda gave Alex and odd look. "What's going on with you?"
Alex shook her head and gave the girl a sad smile. She hugged her and kissed her cheek. "You take care of him ok?"
Amanda looked at the girl shocked, but she didn't have time to reply. Alex shut the girl out of her room and she heard the locking of her door. At once Amanda rushed over to her house and up to Adam's room. He had stopped throwing stuff by that time and the room was silent.
"Adam?" Amanda asked nervously as she knocked. She heard him unlock the door and she slowly walked in side.
"I'm guessing you believed her lies too?" Adam spat at her. Amanda was a little taken back by her reaction but shook her head.
"All she said was she didn't know what she did." Amanda admitted. "But something is really wrong with her Adam. It wasn't Alex over there. There was no emotion from her. She just told me to tell you sorry for what ever she did and for everything and to take care of you. Adam what the hell is going on?"
Adam looked over at Alex's window but found the blinds to be pulled. That wasn't like Alex at all. "I saw her with Portman. She was upset about something and when she saw him, she clung to him like she needed him to be there. Not me Amanda. Portman."
Amanda sighed heavily. "Maybe instead of getting mad at her, you should go talk to her. Something was obviously bothering her before. Maybe she needed him there, because she just needed a friend at the moment? I mean, before you started to have a problem with him, Portman was one of her best friends. She did give that friendship up for you."
"Who's side are you taking!" Adam demanded.
"The rational side." Amanda said with a sad smile. "Please go talk to her. I've never seen her so emotionless. Like she was just going through the motions."
Adam bit his lower lip and looked away from his sister. He knew she was right. Sighing he got to his feet and headed over to Alex's house. He was a little unnerved at the front door was unlocked. Ever since the Fears started to become and issue again, the Conway house hold was always locked up tight. Adam quickly raced up to Alex's room and knocked.
"Alex?" Adam asked worriedly when he realized her door was locked.
"Go away Adam." Alex replied "I cant fight with you right now. Just go away."
"I'm not here to fight baby." Adam said as he tried the door knob again. "Something is wrong. I can hear it in your voice. Please, talk to me."
"I cant pretend any more." Alex said as she looked up at her ceiling. She held back the tears as she tried her hardest to keep her voice even and emotionless. Even if she had to lie through her teeth at that moment, she had to do it. "I cant pretend that I'm still happy with this. I'm sorry."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Adam asked as his heart started to break away piece by aganizing piece.
"Us, Banks." Alex replied. "I can't keep this act up any more. I just… you need to go Adam."
Adam backed away from the door. He went back to school, knowing at that moment he couldn't be at home and be that close to Alex. He wasn't sure what was going on with Alex, just that for the first time in their relationship, she was lying to him.
XOXOXOXOXO
A couple weeks had gone by and Alex had distanced herself from her friends. She had even handed captian over to Sami. She no longer had to go to practice or games, which made her a lot easier for her to pull away from them. The only issue she had was her roommates. They tried to keep their distance and let Alex have her space, but they couldn't let it go for long. About the seventeenth day of Alex's silence, Julie had had enough.
She walked over to Alex's bed as when the others where sleeping. She knew Alex wasn't sleeping, she had a suspicion that Alex wasn't sleeping much at all those couple weeks. When she leaned over Alex she sighed heavily. The girl was wide awake and had been crying. Julie sighed and comfortingly petted Alex's hair.
"What's going on love?" Julie asked. Her heart nearly broke when Alex shook her head and started to cry harder. "You know you can talk to all of us. Or some one. We are all really worried about you."
"Yeah I can see Adam's all broken up inside. I'm sure Diana is loving his attention though." Alex growled and Julie sighed.
"He is heart broken. Diana is about the only one willing to talk to him at the moment." Julie assured her friend. "We don't talk about it. the team and squad. We haven't asked. None of us know whats going on. Just that the both of you are pulling away from us. I tried to ask Adam right after, but all he said was that you ended it. And before that, he saw you with Portman and was mad. But Portman said he hasn't talked to you. We are really worried about you Alex. You keep us together. And to be honest, we're all a bit lost with out you around."
Alex sniffed. "I'm sorry. I just cant be around you all right now. Could you go back to your bed. I'd really like to sleep now."
"As long as you at least answer our texts from time to time. Let one of us know you are ok." Julie said and Alex shook her head.
"I don't have my phone any more. I threw it at Charlie when he pretty much accused me of seeing Portman behind Ada….Bank's back.."
"Oh you have got to be kidding me!" Julie growled load enough to wake the other girls up.
"What the hell are you yelling about?" Doni asked as she looked up to take in the scene in front of her. Alex was laying on her bed crying as Julie stood over her. looking as if she was about to kill some one. Julie nodded for the other two girls to follow her out of the dorm room. Leaving Alex alone in her room.
"Where are we going?" Connie asked as she yawned and followed Julie up to the boys floor. "Did she talk to you?"
"A bit." Julie admitted as she knocked on Adam and Charlie's door loudly. "One of you had better open this door right now or I'm knocking all night!"
Adam flung the door open and angrily looked down at the three girls. He was shirtless and had what looked like a kiss mark on his neck.
"Oh hell no!" Doni growled as she pushed past him to find her younger sister sleeping in Adam's bed. She pulled the covers off the girl and yanked her out of bed. Diana let out a small yelp at being woken up so abruptly but quickly cowered at the sight of who woke her up. "You have five seconds to get the hell out of this room before I beat you black and blue, take you to Dean's room so he can beat the hell out of Adam then call mom and dad to have your sorry ass sent back to Chicago. 1….2…"
Diana didn't have to be told twice. She quickly rushed out of the room leaving Doni to turn on Adam. "What the hell? Do you have a sudden death wish? Do you know what will happen if Dean find out our baby sister was sleeping in your bed…. and leaving lipstick on your chest? What the hell are you thinking!"
Adam rolled his eyes. "Her room mate kicked her out. I had made a bed for her on the floor, but we fell asleep talking."
Doni rolled her eyes. "I'll believe that when pigs fly. Your forgetting who you are talking to Adam."
"When have you ever walked around shirtless?" Julie growled at him as she walked into the room. She slapped him hard in the back of the head. "I'll have words with you in a minute, but right now. I'm hear for Captian Duckie."
Julie walked over to Charlie's bed. She was a bit surprised that he had stayed asleep through Doni's explotion. That was until she saw the earbuds in his ears. She then glared over at Adam. "And when has Charlie ever needed earbuds to fall asleep? You are so on my shit list Banks. And I'll get to you right after I take care of this."
Julie took ahold of Charlie's mattress and with out even having to ask for help, the other two girls where at her side helping her flip Charlie off his bed. he landed with a load smash to the floor.
"What the hell!" Charlie demanded as he got to his feet. He got free of his over turned mattress and angrily got to his feet. But when he saw Julie, Connie and Doni in his room he quickly pointed at Adam. "I told him he was being an idiot."
Julie looked over her shoulder at Adam who was blushing. "You know what Doni, why don't you go wake Dean. I think he does need to hear what has been going on in here."
Doni smirked. "No need. He stepped in the door along with Fulton the moment Charlie started yelling like a little girl."
"What the hell are you girls doing in here at two in the damn morning?" Portman growled at them. "Some people sleep around here."
"Oh you are going to want to hear this one." Julie said with a smile then turned on Charlie. "So tell me Captian. Why would Alex have a reason to be upset at you?"
"Because he accused her of seeing me behind Cakeater's back." Portman answered for Charlie. All three girls turned to him in surprise.
"You've talked to her!" Connie demanded in surprise.
Dean just rolled his eyes. "No I was there when he said it. why do you think his cheek was bruised for a couple days. She smacked him and threw her phone at him. then I'm guessing that's when she went home to find…. Preppy, what the hell is that all over your chest?"
Adam swallowed hard as Doni quickly stepped between her brother and Adam. "Now isn't the time."
"Do you have her phone?" Julie asked as she also stepped between Adam and Dean. "She said she never got it back."
Dean shook his head. "Naw I walked away. I didn't feel like getting expelled that day. I might today though."
Charlie walked over to his nightstand and pulled out Alex's phone. "I picked it up."
Julie at once smacked him. "We have been trying to text her for two weeks! Why didn't you say something!"
"It's got a password." Charlie said with a shrug. Adam rolled his eyes and grabbed it from him. he put in the password and almost dropped the phone. his face paled as he looked up at Charlie. "What's wrong with you?"
"Is Roxy home?" Adam asked and Charlie shook his head. "Go wake the other Conways. And some one go get Alex. I cant believe she's been trying to hide this!"
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Portman growled. Adam didn't even respond instead he handed him Alex's phone. Portman looked down at it and shook his head. "I knew it had to do with them that day! Damn her!"
Portman punched the wall next to Adam's head then angrily started for Alex's room. Doni and Connie quickly followed as they tried to stop him. Charlie soon returned with the rest of the sleepy Conway's and to Julie's annoyance Diana came as well. She tried to slip in to Adam's arms, but he gently pushed her away and shook his head at her.
"Can I beat his ass now or do we do this as a group?" Misty asked as she looked Adam up and down.
"I will take what ever it is you all want to hand out later, but right now you all need to see this." Adam said and handed Misty Alex's phone.
"Where did you get this?" Misty growled. Not even looking down at what was on the phone. the rest of Alex's sibling glared at him as well. Adam sighed and rolled his eyes.
"Just read the damn text!" Adam demanded. Misty looked down and gasped. That caused the rest of the Conway's to take their eyes off Adam and look down at the phone.
"Have any of you been home lately?" Misty asked in a shakey voice." She knew the answer to that. None of her siblings had visited their house since school had started. The only one who ever went back home was Alex.
"Alex is gone!" Portman said as he raced back into the room. "Her things are scattered all over the room. It looks like she was trying to pack in a hurry."
"Her car is gone too." Doni said as she tried to catch her breath. "She must have gone the moment we left the room."
Sami shakingly got out her phone and started to cry when who ever was on the other line answered. "Mom…. What do you mean you know! Where is she! No I will not calm down! Do you know what's going on right now! Of course she didn't tell you. Krissy was in her room mom! They're here!"
Sami hung up the phone and shook her head. "Mom knows she's left school, but wont tell us where she went. she's calling the cops now. She told us to stay put and not leave campus unless we absolutely have too."
"God I'm such an idiot." Adam said as he sat down on his bed and put his head in his hands.
"You nailed that one on the head." Portman growled at him. "What the hell happened that day any way?"
Adam sighed and looked up at his friends. "I was already at home. I was pissed after I saw her clinging to Portman under the tree and just needed to cool down. Amanda was home and must have heard me. She went to talk to Alex, then came over to tell me something was wrong with her. That Alex told her to tell me she was sorry for everything and to look out for me. Amanda told me to go talk to her so I did. Alex was locked in her room. She told me to go away. That she couldn't lie any more, and that she wasn't happy with us. instead of pushing it, I just walked away. I knew she was lying. I just didn't know why. So I figured I'd just give her space."
"And jumping in bed with my little sister was your solution? Smooth move dipstick." Doni growled at him. she then had to jump on Dean's back as he tried to get to Adam. Diana then stepped between them.
"Nothing happened." Diana protested. "I tried and he shot me down. He was just too nice to kick me out of his room. Told me to go to sleep and he'd forget I even tried."
Every one looked over at Diana in complete shock. They then turned to look at Adam who was back to having his face in his hands.
"She pulled away to try and protect us." Adam said into his hands. "If the Fears are watching, they would have seen her alone all this time. She didn't want them to see who she was close with."
"But Adam, if Krissy was in her room…" Sami said and Sassy smacked her and shook her head.
"Don't say it Sami. We are all thinking it." Sassy said as shy tried not to cry.
"What?" Adam looked up at the Conway's and they all looked at him sady.
"Alex wasn't alone in her room that day." Charlie said as the thought finally hit her. "Or she thought some one else was listening. We all know she has those photos of the both of you on her ceiling. Any one walking in would have known who she was closest too. She was ending it so they could hear it."
"That's why she shut her blinds." Adam said with a frustrated growl. "She didn't want me to see that some one else was in the room with her. She knew I would have gone back over."
"Why did they just let her go then?" Portman said shaking his head. "The Fears motives have always been to take Alex back to Greg or to kill her. Why did they just let her return to school?"
"They have something on her and she doesn't want any one to find out." Mandy said as she took a few steps forwards so every one could see her. She was usually the quiet one out of all her sibling. "I've been home. I lied. A couple days ago I went home so mom could fix my uniform. Alex's door was open a bit. The photo's are gone. But she still had the one on her night stand. Alex's face was all scratched out of it. So I cornered Alex in the halls. She told me that they were watching her. That if she didn't spill the big secret then they are going too. She said she had to go away for a while. She said she had to try and take them away from here."
"Why the hell didn't you say something before!" Sami growled at her. Brad put a hand on her shoulder to calm her down.
"Collin and I knew as well." Brad admitted. "Mom told us that she was going to be leaving. I just figured she needed space after seeing Adam and Diana getting so close. We just didn't know the truth till now. Mom is meeting her where ever she is at. Informing the local police of what is going on.
"Alex is my twin." Charlie spat out and the others turned to him in complete shock.
"What!" His cousin's exclaimed. Charlie looked nervously down at his feet.
"Roxie lost the baby she was pregnant with." Charlie said still looking down at his feet. "Mom knew she was having twins. My dad had already split. She didn't think she could hand being a single mother of two babies. So Roxie said she'd adopt one of us. She came to stay with my mom, telling Mike that mom was on bed rest. So when we where born, Roxie put her and Mike's name on Alex's birth certificate. Then told Mike she gave birth while she was there with mom. Saying the stress or something had caused her to go into early labor. I'm guessing that is what the Fears have figured out. The one thing that could break our family is that secret. If Mike found out he had been right this whole time…."
"How do you know this?" Sara asked and Charlie looked up at her and shrugged.
"Mom told me." Charlie replied. "Well she didn't tell me my twin was Alex till years later. But one night I found her crying in her room. She was going through an old photo album I had never seen before. she explained then, that she had twins. And she gave one up for adoption. After the Fears happened our freshman year, I asked mom if Alex was my twin. That's when she told me the whole story. She regrets giving Alex up. but it's why she's so much closer to her. She begged me not to tell any one. Not even Alex."
"I think I need to sit down." Sami said and all the Conways dropped to the floor in complete shock. "All these years and Mike was right. He wasn't Alex's father."
"Why would mom lie like that?" Sara asked still in shock. "The lie is what drove Dad crazy.
"Their relationship had always been rocky." Charlie said with a shrug. "I mean according to my mom. Roxie thought Mike would leave her if he found out she lost the baby."
"She was probably right." Collin said with a shrug. "Mike has always been kind of an asshole. I mean we aren't even his and he treated us better than he ever did Alex. I don't think that would have changed. No mater what, he had it in his head that mom had cheated on him before Alex was even born."
"This is just way too much to take in." Misty said shaking her head. "I need a subject change for a while or my head is going to explode."
Adam's phone started to ring and he looked down at it confused. "It's Amanda?"
He answered the phone to hear Amanda's panicked voice on the other end. "Calm down. And say that again…"
"The cops are next door and they have one of the triplets and a few others under arrest." Amanda said out of breath. "I'm trying about to tell them they made a mistake."
"No!" Adam demanded into the phone. "I'll explain later, but let them take her. she's not who you think she is. Just keep an eye on the place and come see me when the cops leave."
"Adam… what's going on? Is Alex in trouble again." Amanda asked. "Are you in trouble?"
"I'm fine. I promise." Adam said then hung up the phone. He turned to the others and smiled. "The cops arrested Krissy and some others."
"What! Are you sure!" Sami said getting to her feet and hugging him. "Oh what I wouldn't give to see her get dragged in to the police station in cuffs!"
"What's stopping us?" Brad asked with a mischievous smile. "And you know what the best part of this is…. Krissy is eighteen now. No more kiddy jail. It's the big times for her."
