Werewolf
The four friends sat in the common room and planned the soon coming Halloween party. Sirius let the feather on his quill caress the skin below his nose as he looked over their list of what needed to be done. Remus suddenly gave out a groan in pain and took his hand over his heart, his friends looked up at him in horror. Sirius and James run up to him but Remus just smiled a nervous smile and waved at them to say he was ok.
"Don't worry, I'm fine. It's just hormones playing a prank on me, I sometimes get this intense pain right under my heart, nothing to worry about."
Sirius looked sceptical but sat down again.
After about an hour of more planning sat they back and relaxed. Sirius observed Remus, he looked pale.
"Remus, are you okay? You look a little out of sorts"
Remus looked at Sirius and smiled.
"Yes, don't worry. I must go and see my mother again later today though, McGonagall will take me."
"She is not better yet?" Asked Peter. It looked as Remus had a hard time to answer.
"No, she is terrible ill."
"Do you like her?" Asked Sirius. The other boys looked at him with raised brows.
"What do you mean Sirius?" Asked Peter.
"Of course he does, she is his mother." Said James. Sirius felt the strange atmosphere.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to sound heartless. It's just well..."
"What?" Asked James softly. Sirius thought.
"Well, if my mother was sick; I wouldn't bother so much."
"Maybe because you parents can afford the best healers staying at your home 24 hours a day?" Said Peter.
"No, it's not that...the truth is...I don't like her that much."
It was a heavy silence between them. Then Remus smiled.
"It's ok. Everyone doesn't love their parents. I do, but on the other hand are they not followers of Voldermort." Said Remus and laughed.
"Are your parents death eaters?" Asked Peter Sirius with scared voice.
"No. Well, honestly, I don't know. I know they support that upcoming dark wizard."
James lowered his head and looked at Sirius with some dislike. It was the third awkward silence between then under a few minutes all because of Sirius family matter, he hated himself for talking about them.
"So, when will you come back Remus?" Asked James.
"I leave today and will be gone about two or three days I think. It depends on how bad she is."
"Hope she will be better soon." Said Peter. Sirius nodded in, he got a nagging feeling Remus didn't told them the truth; but he could not say what it was and he was ashamed he disbelieved Remus words.
The rest of the day was and felt very grey. Remus had left them around seven with professor McGonagall, Sirius thought Remus himself looked too sick to travel to visit his mother. And why did they go and see her so late? Apparently took McGonagall him to Hogsmeade and they travelled with floo powder from there.
Sirius sat in the common room and played wizarding chess with himself, he was waiting for James to join him, he and Peter was practicing a charm spell they didn't manage on the last class. Lily and her friends sat on the other side from the common room, Sirius gave her a wave; she didn't wave back to him. Sirius sighted, it's not easy to please everyone. As a matter of fact had Sirius life before Hogwarts been pretty lonely (as Remus life had) his parents had only allowed him to befriending respected pure-bloods. Sirius disliked almost everyone of them, though when he was about five years old did he meet a nice boy who he had befriended. But he and his family went back to French from where they come from. So he had mostly played with his cousins and little brother. He had befriended some muggles at the playground close near the his home, but when his parents found it out corrected them him violently. When Sirius went back to see the kids again, even though he had been corrected, told them him that the boy Ruphus Miles, who Sirius had specially found of, had gone missing. Sirius had feared the worst and with tears went back home, with a growing hate for his parents. He knew they hated muggles, specially his mother who only saw them as pest.
James came and joined Sirius at the common room, Peter went up to his bed; he had got a chest cold. James noticed Evans in the room when he sat down on the chair in front of Sirius.
"She is terrible mad at us, isn't she?"
Sirius looked over at Lily again. "Yes she is." He still felt bad, how could he be so stupid he could not foresee this would happen? He had to make up with her again.
"Shall we start the game?" Asked James.
"yes, you can start."
James made the first move and they sat in silence and played for a while before Sirius said;" Remus looked rather sick don't you think?"
"Mmmmm.." Said James with eyes fixed on the chessboard.
"I don't think he was in a condition to travel actually, he should have got to the hospital wing instead don't you think?"
"Mmmm..."
"His mother most be very sick...or...what if Remus is the one that is sick and they take him to St. Mungos."
"Mmmm" said James with eyes still fixed on the board.
"It feels like there is something he hides from us..."
"Checkmate, mate!" Yelled James with joy as his players took Sirius king. Sirius who had payed a little attention at the game jumped high at James winning roar. James did a little winning dance on his chair. Sirius laughed at him and some students stared at them, some laughed. Lily and her friends stared at them with eyes telling them they should be more quiet.
"But honestly James, what do you think about what I said about Remus? If you heard anything I told you?"
"Of course I did...kind of. No but I do agree that he seemed to sick himself to go anywhere. And so late too."
"Maybe his mother is dying..."
"Sirius! You should not say such things.." Said James and looked as he had corrected a puppy dog.
"Sorry."
"Nah, it's Ok. You can't help you have been brought up by some heartless folks." Laughed James but then he regretted it since it did sound rather mean. But Sirius just laughed.
"Sorry Sirius."
"No, it's true though! It's actually relieving that some agree with me on that, because no one back at home do."
"Not even Andromeda? She seems like a decent girl...for a Slytherin."
"Nah, she doesn't always agree with them, but she, as her little sister, loves the idea of a steady family. Andromeda and I are much alike though but...she never really objects over what they say as I do."
"You can't keep your big mouth shut, eh?" Laughed James.
"No maybe I can't." Laughed Sirius.
When the boys came up to their dormitory did they found Peter lying in his bed staring up at the roof.
"You okay Peter?" Asked James.
"No, I can't sleep. I was thinking of Remus.."
"We know what you mean Peter. We have been thinking about that too."
"He felt so terrible tired don't you think?"
"Yes Peter, but if I may say so are you not that healthy either right now. You should rest and get better yourself." Said James and laid himself on his own bed.
"Well, it's just a chest cold." Answered Peter.
When Peter and James had been sleeping for a good time was Sirius still awake. He could not help it but he was thinking of his family. If his mother was dying, would he even go and see her? He disliked her, but after all she was his mother. And what about his father, he was a strong and silent man. As he lay there in the dark did he realise that he actually didn't know his parents. He didn't know how his father had been as a child, he didn't know what his father really thought. He had never really cared to ask them such things. Did Remus now his mother inside out? Did James and Peter? Was he the strange one? Well, he thought, I'm a Black.
And he fell asleep as the other boys; the full moon lighted the silent room.
Meanwhile was a werewolf biting himself in desperate for blood and space. The people of Hogsmead heard ghostly sounds from the shrieking schak, they wondered why a ghost would come and live in there all of a sudden.
