Chapter Eight: My Prince

"So, does this mean that you already remember everything?" Haruka asked, a bit happy and a bit sad. Her face showed a soft expression, her eyes were the only ones out of place for they were starting to be circled by bitter sweet tears. She knew that she should be happy for him but still, she couldn't help but blame herself. She was the reason why he became cold, her death traumatized her and that made her despise herself.

Ai silently nodded at the maiden, a modest smile on his lips. His eyes full of expression and emotions as he gazed upon the angel that was seated in front of the piano. Seeing her hurtful expression replaced the smile on Ai's face with a frown, his eyes also starting to tear up. As if both parties were communicating through telepathy, the male immediately knew what she was thinking.

He looked at the side, avoiding her eyes as he placed a hand upon his chest. Sensing the steady beat of his heart, he started to speak, "So I guess you're back." Haruka's eyes widened with sadness at his tone of voice. He was cold, sad and somehow hurt just like her. The maiden only nodded back in reply, she didn't really want to talk about this topic but then Ai brought it up so she might as well solve it.

"I'm sorry," the maiden had her head hung low when she said those lines, her bangs covered her eyes as she removed her hands away from the piano keys. The male took a deep breath before he sat beside her and held her hands in his. The angel intertwined her hands in his in response to his action. She leaned her head on his shoulder, biting her lips to stop herself from whimpering as the tears slid down her rosy cheeks.

Ai looked really bothered, worried and grief-stricken as he asked her, "You're going back aren't you?" Silence had surrounded the pair for a moment before Haruka nodded at him. The once ice prince didn't even bother to look at the girl whose eyes were filled with tears. Instead, he sadly looked at the piano and continued his question, "Why didn't you tell me?"

"You already knew," was all that he received from Haruka. To be honest, Ai didn't know what to feel. Although his emotions had returned, he didn't know how to use it. His data was also betraying him, jumbled up and shattered in pieces he didn't know what to think. The male didn't choose to force the topic on her for he knew that she was also hurt like him. He knew that she didn't want to leave but you see…

It's their fate to be separated and there is nothing anyone can do.

"When are you going to go?" His tone was crestfallen but somehow monotone and filled with the thing we call fear. Honestly, he didn't want her to reply. He didn't want her to remind him that their time together was already limited and soon would be over. His mood only dropped more when he heard her reply.

"Now," The angel replied, bursting into tears as she tightly held unto Ai's hand, her face digging unto his shoulder and her warm tears dropping unto his pale skin. Haruka's figure was already starting to turn into fragments that looked like broken crystals and pearly, white glitter that flowed unto the wind. With the angel's cry that echoed inside the room, all Ai that could do was look at the ceiling to hold back his tears before he buried his face on the top of her head.

"I don't want to leave," Haruka insisted but she continued to disappear. The maiden could hear Ai saying things like 'you'll be alright' and 'you won't leave' as he nodded unto her hair. Ai didn't sniffle of do stuff, he just remained his position as his tears silently flowed down from his eyes. One could tell that he was a bit upset and mad. Although she knew that he knew, she could have still told him the truth.

With at least one-eighth of Haruka disappearing into what seemed like glitter, Ai decided to cup her cheeks, wiping her tears away. "Promise me," he started and gazed upon her molten orbs with his icy, chilly but determined ones. The maiden shook her head looking even more heartbroken.

"Haruka please, promise me," Ai said with his tone starting to rise. She stared at his eyes, shaking her head as her bittersweet tears started to flow again. The angel knew that she shouldn't make him hope. She shouldn't make him believe in something that would never ever happen again. Haruka repeatedly shook her head saying no while Ai also recapped his actions.

"Promise me that you'll come back again," he stated, his voice shivering and betraying his control. The maiden finally nodded, her crying louder than before. With that said and half of Haruka remaining, Ai brought Haruka closer for a soft, warm kiss with one swift movement. As if the time had stopped, their tears had also paused and didn't resume. Both people closed their eyes, feeling each other's warmth.

Not minding Haruka's presence that turned into fragments that flowed along the wind, flashbacks attacked Ai's mind. After every fight and laugh, after every conversation and touch, he couldn't wait another moment. There was no longer a need to be subtle. The last question had been answered before it ever got to be asked.

He loves her and she loves him, everything is in place, but in the end, there is no forever.

Until the very last second, both individuals bathed in each other's arms until the angel completely disappeared. All that was left was Ai soaked in tears with his once frozen heart beating with the warmth she gave him.

"He was an awful person."

That's a good way to summarize him, the prince of the school, Mikaze Ai.

He almost killed someone.

He almost tried drugs.

He can't talk without stopping himself from being mean.

He talked back to his upperclassmen.

He always gets in a fight and hurt himself.

Violence was his favorite game aside from his data.

He wasn't a gangster or someone like that but instead, he was just a typical popular high school boy who had a frozen heart of ice. Well, he was, until he met her, the girl who claims herself as an angel.

She's kind.

She's forgiving.

She's honest.

She's pure and innocent.

She's hardworking.

She's humble.

"She was the total antonym of him."

"Ohh, you mean Nanami Haruka? Haru-Haru's charm was that of she was simple. She might be a bit clumsy and shy but those are also one of her good points. She's my dearest Kohai-chan~!"

"Haruka? Well, I have known the woman even before she became an angel. Nothing had changed about the lass, still benevolent and good-hearted, perfectly suited for her role."

"Yeah, I know the girl. Nanami Haruka, my former fiancé was the perfect partner one could ask. Although I wished that she made a better choice, I completely respect her decision. Literally speaking, all I can say is, fuck the butterflies, I felt the whole zoo when I was with her."

"Well, Haruka was the complete opposite of me. She's the one who taught me how to change. She made me believe that all it takes is determination and the will to succeed to achieve what you want."

Someone believes in destiny. Someone believes in fate. But for some people, happiness is something we create.

We are the ones who make our future. We are the ones in charge of our lives.

We are the ones who make the beginning therefore we are also the ones who create the end.

"The upperclassmen have graduated! I'm seriously going to miss the members of Quartet Night! Senpai-tachi, don't leave me! No!"

"Speaking of Quartet Night, I heard that they were a gang who used to beat up people back then,"

"Ehh? No way! I refuse to believe!"

"Well, according to the rumors, the so called 'angel' of the school had changed them. I heard that she completely tamed Kurosaki-senpai and Mikaze-senpai . I also heard that Kurosaki-senpai was her ex-fiance and that of she's currently in a relationship with Mikaze-senpai!"

"Tamed THE 'Kurosaki' and THE 'Mikaze'!? The mean heir of the Kurosaki group and the well-known Ice Prince of Quartet Night!? You must be kidding me! Guys please stop lyi—"

"Well it's the truth," a man with silver hair and mismatched colored eyes crossed his arms above his chest. He seemed to look down the younger students along with three familiar individuals who stood behind him. Reiji still had that goofy smile on his face while Camus was still as commanding and elegant as ever. Ai on the other hand, was surprisingly cold and chilly when his heart was already supposed to be warmed.

"Just to clarify, we weren't beating people back then. We were simply putting them in the brink of death," Camus declared, looking down on the students who he thought of as mere peasants. Everyone except for Ai sweat dropped thinking that he just made it worse. Reiji on the other hand silently roamed his eyes around the campus and that was when he spotted an individual with pinkish-red hair dressed in white sitting on the edge of the window. Her short hair flowed in the wind but what made her recognizable was her enchanting warm, kind smile.

While Camus and Ranmaru were busy talking to their lowerclassmen about the so called 'angel', clarifying stuff and boasting her, Reiji tugged Ai's sleeve, his shocked eyes still not separated from the window. Ai looked at his friend monotonously before looking at where he was looking at. That very moment, even before Ai's orbs could widen in shock, he was already running towards the room where she was spotted.

Reiji, being the supportive friend he is, started to cheer Ai from a distance, "Go Ai-Ai! Run like the wind! Be faster than light itself! Run like a man! Go~!" The people around them including Ranmaru and Camus looked at him as if he was crazy, more than insane. Camus purposely raised a brow at him while Ranmaru crossed his arms again, the younger students observing their upperclassmen with full curiosity.

Ranmaru smiled as he looked at the clear, blue sky that was covered with clouds as he said, "So she's back." Walking away from the bunch, he waved a goodbye that was considered as cool. He went towards a black colored car that was parked in front of the school and went in.

"Is the ceremony already finished young master?" the driver, Claude asked. Ranmaru nodded, his bangs covering his eyes.

"Go to the usual place Claude," he commanded the man as he looked out of the window, bored. He removed the ribbon that proved he graduated from his uniform and placed it inside his pocket.

"Visiting Miss Nanami's grave again are we young master?" Claude asked, driving away from the school. Passing through the roads, Ranmaru simply twitched in response. Eyeing the bouquet of flowers on his side, he simply sighed at himself. After a year of his rejection, he still couldn't move on. How pathetic of him.

Meanwhile, Ai ran faster than he could. Climbing up the staircase and turning right, he arrived at the place where she left him before, the third music room. Without hesitation, he opened the door panting. Just like that day, his eyes failed him and started to burst into tears. Covering his eyes with his hand and the other holding unto the door's frame, the male started to sniffle.

The girl took notice, smiled and walked towards him, purposely stopping in front of him a meter away. She innocently tilted her head looking at the male with a teasing smile. Probably, because of mixed up emotions, Ai managed to laugh as he cried.

"Ai-kun, did you grow taller?" she simply asked as if it was a very normal conversation. The male wiped his tears away for the final time before tackling the girl into a hug. Digging unto her neck, he inhaled her familiar scent as he genuinely laughed.

"It's just that your short, stupid," he simply replied.

Haruka shifted her gaze unto the boy as she returned his hug. Smiling, she decided to something that affected the boy deeply, "So I guess you're still cold although I already warmed up your heart. I guess this is your real nature huh. Ohh well, I'm just glad that you're back Ai-kun." She teasingly joked making Ai pout in response. Letting go of his embrace, Haruka raised her hand and flicked his forehead.

"Not so angelic now are we, angel-san?" While asking, Ai brought her closer once again, his hands circling her waist. Haruka slightly blushed at his actions while the male smiled in amusement.

Moving even closer, he kissed her ear before whispering, "Welcome back, my princess." His words were followed by a blow of wind unto her ear and a stolen peck on the cheek. Haruka gasped thinking how unfair it was but fortunately for Ai, she was kind enough to forgive him.

Haruka sweetly smiled at him as she said, "I promised that I would be back didn't I, my prince?" The once ice prince sweetly smiled at her before raising her chin and closed their distance with a kiss.

Nothing lasts for eternity. There is no forever. Everything would surely disappear and that is the truth.

But you see with enough kindness and hope, one will surely get another chance.

"Ai-kun? We'll he's cold, monotone and silent. Not to mention, he's my prince."

In the end, even someone as cold as Ai, could be as sweet as sugar.
