Disclaimer: WHAT?!
Moonpaw: *Sighs* You don't own Warriors.
Me: Oh yeah. What she said.
It wasn't long before Moonpaw had a crowd of cats around her, including the kits.
"What was it like to fall out of the sky?"
"Are you sure you don't remember your past?"
"How come your name ends with 'paw' if you've never heard of the clans?"
"Do you like mice?"
"Can I touch you?"
She shook her head and started to walk away, when she bumped into a small bundle of fur. Moonpaw looked down. It was Brightkit.
"You look like me," the little kit whispered.
Moonpaw forced a smile. "Great StarClan, we do!"
Brightkit flicked her ear. "How do you know what StarClan is?"
"Sandpaw told me about them," she mewed quickly, gesturing at the ginger apprentice by the fresh-kill pile. She becomes Sandstorm later in life, Moonpaw recalled Flamestar's mate. Her mother nodded just as her two sisters bounded towards them.
"You fell! The sky! So awesome!" gasped Icekit. Moonpaw grinned. "Didn't feel so awesome."
The third kit, Firekit, blinked at her with her green eyes. What happened to her in the future? Did she die?
"You're shiny," was all she said as she walked away.
Icekit laughed loudly. "Ha! Shiny. Firekit always has these weird dreams. Last night she was mumbling in her sleep, saying 'Don't make dirt. Don't make dirt. '. It was funny."
Weird dreams. Shiny. Moonpaw frowned. It reminded her of Leafpelt. She always heard her growling something in her sleep.
Brightkit smiled at her sister. "Come on, I have an idea to prank Lightningkit."
Icekit grinned sheepishly, and they both ran away.
Moonpaw looked at the poppy seeds on her paws. She would need them for tonight, she was still shocked that she was now in a time when her mother was a kit.
Moonpaw's eyes widened as Bluestar came to sit next to her, carrying a fat mouse. The ThunderClan leader nodded at her and took a seat.
"You must be tired from your journey," she mewed as she offered some of the mouse to Moonpaw. She gratefully took a bite out of it, she had not eaten since the day before ShadowClan attacked.
"Are you sure that you do not remember any of it?" Bluestar prompted. Guilt surged through Moonpaw. She didn't like to lie.
"I don't know," she admitted and took another bite of the mouse. "I… cannot say. You won't believe me." She looked at the mouse and pushed it towards Bluestar, suddenly unappetized. The leader nodded, she didn't look surprised.
"I figured that much," she replied. Moonpaw looked up. "I can't tell you. You won't like it." Bluestar dipped her head.
"You do not have to. Only if you are ready," she mewed, and walked to her den beneath the highrock. "Get some sleep. You will need it."
Moonpaw was about to ask where she would sleep, when Sandpaw gestured for her to join her in the Apprentices' Den. She padded inside to be met by some apprentices.
Flamepaw/star nodded at her. His friend who he had been talking to earlier, who Moonpaw guessed was Graywhisker, grinned. Two other apprentices were in the den, too. A brown tabby who was pretending to be asleep. A raven black apprentice was in the corner, his eyes wide with fear.
Sandpaw snorted at the dusty brown apprentice. "Dustpaw, we all know that you're faking."
Dustpaw raised his head and grumbled. "I had to put up with that kittypet. Now another cat shows up, who apparently fell out of the sky."
"Stranger danger," whispered the black apprentice.
Dustpaw sighed. "Exactly, Ravenpaw. But you could speak up, you know."
Ravenpaw mumbled something about Tigerclaw and sharp teeth and claws, then curled into a ball and fell asleep.
Moonpaw forced a smile at Flamepaw, who looked at her weirdly. "I'm not a kittypet," he mewed to her. "Not anymore, anyways."
Graypaw/whisker reassured him that he had proven himself to ThunderClan. He turned to Moonpaw, flicking his ear. "You fell out of the sky."
Dustpaw snorted.
"What was it like?" he pressed on, ignoring his denmate. Moonpaw gave him a smile. "Blue light. The feeling of getting sick."
He cracked up, and she smiled again, this time wider. Maybe she could tolerate living with the past ThunderClan for a while.
Moonpaw opened her eyes to a forest with stars. Her paws twitched as a beautiful calico she-cat emerged out of the bracken.
The she-cat blinked. "You do not belong here."
Moonpaw scowled. "Of course I don't! I just traveled back in time, for StarClan's sake! Why did you send me here?"
"I did not. Someone else did. It seems like they want you to stop something."
"Stop something? But I'm just a regular old-" she paused, realizing that she was repeating her conversation with Gingerleaf.
The she-cat smiled. "I am Spottedleaf. And you are-?"
"Moonpaw." her name sounded simple. But she knew that she had it for a reason. She just needed to find out why.
"Moonpaw," Spottedleaf repeated. "Brightkit always wanted a she-kit named Moonkit."
"You know my mo- Brightkit?"
"Well, of course. She's one of the Three." Spottedleaf mewed, licking her paw. Moonpaw cocked her head. "The Three?"
"The Three. The Three will save all from Night, around the Clans a Night so tight.
Ice will be praised by her Clan, but beware, she carries a hope so strong, she will do many wrong.
Sun will be saved by a Lion's heart, only to love at the start.
Fire will flare so bright, that she will perish in the fight.
The Black will crumble, its forces dead, but beware, it will be back from the death bed.
"When have prophecies become so long?" mumbled Moonpaw's dream self.
"Shush. It is long because it is important, stranger." Spottedleaf swished her tail, flicking it across Moonpaw's nose.
"Stranger danger," she remembered mewing, and that is when she woke up.
"Sun," muttered Moonpaw for the millionth time that day. "But Brightfl- kit's name would be "Bright". But I guess that sounds stupid. Stupid rhyming cats… stupid-"
"Moonpaw!"
She bounced to her paws as she heard Sandpaw's voice. Her new friend was looking at her weirdly, her green eyes shining.
"Come on!" she mewed. "Bluestar says I can show you around!"
Moonpaw nodded, her eyes shining. I can see what's changed. "Alright," she replied to the over-excited apprentice. "Let's go!"
Sandpaw bounded away through the tunnel, and Moonpaw followed her, chuckling.
The pale apprentice abruptly stopped in a clearing, sand skittering out from underneath her paws. "This is the sandy hollow," she mewed, looking around. "It's where we apprentices train."
Moonpaw sniffed at the ground and sneezed, trying her best to look like she'd never been there before. "Interesting."
Sandpaw shuffled her paws. "By the way, why do you have an apprentice name? Shouldn't your name be 'Moon', or something?"
She froze. Why didn't she think of that? "Great StarClan," she mumbled.
"And another thing," Sandpaw pressed on. "You keep whispering about StarClan. You must be a loner. Surely you don't believe in StarClan?"
"I...I…"
Sandpaw snorted. "Come on, let's explore the rest of the territory. And then lets settle in for the night in the Elder's Den. Smallear was going to tell us apprentices a great story tonight."
Moonpaw sighed, obviously relieved. "Oh, okay. Let's go, lead on."
The rest of the day was spent patrolling the area, and Moonpaw almost believed that Sandpaw had forgotten the encounter about her past.
Almost.
Moonpaw shuffled into a better position in her nest. The apprentices were in the elder's den, all squashed together in a tight circle around the older cats. This opportunity didn't happen often, but the elders were looking for some company that night, and the apprentices always loved their stories.
The kits would've listened, too, but everyone knew that they would be asleep in a heartbeat.
And so there she was, in the past ThunderClan, listening to some old cranky elders tell a story.
She didn't know that it would affect her for the rest of her life.
Now, settle down, youngers, and listen to my- sorry, our- tale.
This is a story so old that it goes back to the beginning of the clans- no, not the clans you know today, ThunderClan, WindClan, ShadowClan and RiverClan- the ancient clans. TigerClan, LionClan, and LeopardClan.
You may not know this, but the great clans did not believe in StarClan- because our warrior ancestors did not exist yet.
It was a moon after the clans had formed. Don't ask me how, even I don't know that. Goldenstar, the leader of LionClan, now had a healthy daughter- and her name was Starkit.
The sky at night in the ancient times had no stars. When cats died, their clanmates believed they were lost forever, and they were right, since there were no stars, there were no StarClan. "Star" at the time was a made up word. Goldenstar himself named his precious daughter. He knew that Starkit was a special name, a name that would change everything.
Starkit became Starpaw. She was beautiful- very beautiful. Her silver pelt shone like- well, like the stars, but no one knew what that meant at the time. But she was different- she was not golden like the rest of LionClan. She was not half the size of a twoleg monster. Yes, she was a regular cat like us, the "smaller" version of the great cats.
It was so that Darkpaw from TigerClan fell in love with her. He was also a small cat, and he felt he loved her with all of his heart. She knew so, but Starpaw loved another cat- a cat named Moonpaw.
He too, had a silver pelt that shone brighter than any cats'. From LeopardClan, Moonpaw was smaller too. Moonpaw also loved Starpaw, and when they became warriors, Moonpelt and Starcloud, they ran away from the clans, forever.
They found a place unlike no other where they could live in peace- yes, apprentices, they had found StarClan. The former clan cats renamed themselves Star and Moon. Moons later they ran away, they had three she-cats. Bright Sun, Burning Fire, and Frozen Ice.
When Darkcloud found out where they were all of these moons, he was furious. He had done everything for Star- brought her extra fresh-kill, gave her clan herbs, even saved her once from drowning. And that stupid tom gives her one look and she falls head over heals for him.
Darkcloud vowed that he was going to be powerful, too- and control all the clans one day.
Meanwhile Moon, Star, and their children collected the dead cats from the clans- and brought them to StarClan. (The name was decided later in the story.) They created a heavenly resting place for elders, poor kits, and dead warriors that risked their lives for their clans. In this clan, all of the clans were brought together.
Many, many moons later the great clans were gone, replaced by ThunderClan, RiverClan, WindClan, and ShadowClan.
But Dark (now as everyone called him) would get his revenge. He made some cats from clans feel unwanted and unsafe in their home. He collected them and trained them, every night, in the darkest part of StarClan.
When they attacked, he believed they would be unstoppable.
But he was wrong.
Star and Moon were also building up their forces, whispering prophecies and filling the forest with light.
In the final battle darkness was defeated, but with a cost.
Moon whispered his dying words in front of his beloved family, wishing for the heavenly warriors in the sky to be called StarClan, in honor of Star.
As he died, Star set Moon in the sky, lighting up the night with his rays.
Star is still in StarClan, waiting for the day when Moon will return. She is so weak because so little cats remember her, so she keeps her daughters in charge.
Bright Sun is in charge of bringing up the sun at dawn, and lowering it at sunset.
Frozen Ice is in charge of the seasons as they roll across the world, making sure that new-leaf brings healthy kits and plentiful prey.
Burning Fire is in charge of keeping the clans together- so there is always four clans in the forest.
Star lives only if StarClan lives, therefore only if light lives.
Maybe one day, her wish will come true, and she will see Moon again. Then maybe she can finally rest.
So, there's the reason Brightflower, Icepool, and Firepath are so special.
It's kinda like in The Power of Three, Jayfeather is Jay's Wing, Lionblaze is Lion's Roar, and Dovewing is Dove's Wing.
Oh, yeah, by the way, Leafpaw is Yellowfang's apprentice. I know. You're like this right now…
0.o
That's because that…THERE IS NO CINDERPELT!
Dun dun duuuun.
