So many nice comments, thank you everyone.
Turtle Kid the Woolgatherer: O, that idea is so evil, though Akamaru would make up for it as I absolutely love dogs, especially bigs ones, maybe I should do a scene or two where Haruka squeals over dogs.
Graduation day, I don't know weather I should be excited for all of this finally being over and to the timeline I know or if I should break down crying at the pressure of everything.
Failing the test is not an option, not from just the morality of not trying to help deal with future events but also the fall out that would happen in the family. The clan heir who had been so talented only to fail the simple graduation test, yeah that would basically show that I had failed it intentionally. People being disappointed in me is something I've always tried to avoid because of all the guilt that came with it. Never mind the fact that my family would never allow me to retake the test or go into the genin corps, I would probably be told to start training for being a housewife if I'm lucky enough that they don't just kick me out.
So I passed the test.
"Congratulations," Iruka-sensei says as he hands me my headband with black cloth like I asked.
I tie it around my right arm, as the head bugs me and the neck like Hinata feels like someone is going to strangle me. Father is there to greet Hinata and I after the getting handed our headbands, saying to us.
"I'm proud of the two of you," he says which I have to emit I am a sucker for as my parents saying their proud of me was always better then any other prize. Soon after we got home father told me to meet with him in the family dojo. "As we both know that you will surely pass the team evaluation, regardless of who is on your team, I would have started to train you in revolving Heaven but you seem to have taken upon your self to do so."
I flinched at his tone.
"Haruka," father said, the disappointment in his tone made me title my head so I couldn't meet his eyes. "There are reasons why I try to limit you learning these things at certain ages," he told me.
"But Neji..."
"Is a boy, who develops differently then you, a girl," father said, my hands tightened their grip on my pants. "Do you not know the risks of what you could put your body through? That you may not ever be able to have children from damaging your self at this stage of development."
I didn't think of that, there was something in a lesson about that but I had all but forgotten it as unimportant because I'm just trying to survive the coming times. Children are not something I really thought about in this world, after all I didn't even live long enough to do that in my previous life.
"I didn't think..."
"That's right, you didn't think," father said sharply. "From now on, all of your training will be personally supervised by me, Neji has already been informed about this."
"What about my team..."
"Your future Jonin has already been informed about this, and will over see your team training."
Damn, that doesn't sound like Kakashi.
"Now, go get ready with Hinata for tonight's banquet."
"Yes, father."
I mopped about a little over what father had said to me over the issue of children, I hadn't payed attention to a future after wards, as I had only sense the last chapter of Naruto before I died. And I had heard somethings about there being a few canon Naruto movies as a what happens after, so I've worried a little.
Children...children...Right, I wanted to be a teacher before I died, maybe this time around I can do that. That will be a future I can look forward to after all this.
Anyways, getting back to the banquet.
Hinata and I dressed in formal, like everyone else. Everyone from the main house who wasn't on mission is currently attending along with some of the branch members who are heads of their house hold, but the rest of the branch members are currently on guard, something that came about due to the Uchiha massacre.
Congratulations passed around, some even saying the 'I expect great things..." line.
Then suddenly an alarm went off, and the banquet fell into silence, then everyone of Jonin rank and above, including my father rushed out of the hall.
For a brief moment confusion and alarm over came me but then I remembered about what would happen tonight. Naruto stealing the scroll.
Should I do something?...No, interfering with this could lead to Naruto not obtaining his greatest trump card the multi shadow clone jutsu and also not becoming a ninja. Out comes that would ruin everything.
God, I just hope I didn't screw everything up.
Even after the alarm, I barely slept at all, fearful of the repercussions of my actions. My anxiety issues are just something I have yet to conquer.
"Sis, wake up," Hinata said, as she gently rocks me. "Father will get angry if you sleep in."
Normally I would have gotten up before Hinata, but I had only just crashed. I let out a groan and just rolled over, too tired to care.
"We need to register today..."
I shot up before she could finish. Right, today I will see how I have effected everything.
The mirror said everything about how it effects me, but I can't hide it with makeup as the registration wants everything to be as natural as possible. Though if I remember right, Naruto disregarded that.
Hinata and I walked, while I more just occasionally nodded off on her shoulder, going to the tower. We spent the morning filling out the paper work, Hinata finished the multitude of work before I did as her handwriting skills are better then mine but she waited for me to finish before handing in her sheets, as I worked slowly so that everything was neat.
"Done," the two of us said together more as a joke then anything, handing the sheets at the same time to the chunin behind the registration desk.
"Everything seems to be in order," he said to us after a minute of glancing over the paperwork. "Thank you for filling everything out properly."
The two of us were just about to leave when Naruto showed up with the face paint on.
"Hey, Haruka, Hinata, I got my headband!" Naruto showed it to us proudly.
"Congratulations," we said, though Hinata almost whispered it, while blushing as red as a tomato and doing that finger wiggling thing. For me, a wave of relief washed over me, Naruto graduated but just to confirm one last thing. "How did you graduate?"
"Oh, well, Iruka-sensei saw me do this cool new jutsu that I just learned and gave me the headband because of how cool I am," Naruto said rapidly. "Here, I'll show you." he did the classic cross with his fingers and seven Naruto's suddenly appeared in a cloud of smoke.
Thank God, everything is still there. My byakugan proved that their solid and have chakra distributed evenly.
"That's amazing, Naruto, the multi shadow clone jutsu is a high rank technique," I said.
"Thanks."
A few more words were exchanged before we went our opposite directions, Naruto to register and the two of us back home to train.
I slept a lot better the night before the team assignments, Naruto having his biggest trump card put me more at ease for the upcoming events.
One event I absolutely had to stop, was one not to hard.
Naruto still has his rivalry with Sasuke, which I'm betting is because Sasuke refuses to acknowledge him, well I have. Which is why the two of them are having a staring contest, although way too close.
"Alright you two, break it up," I said to them but neither backing down, both too stubborn it seems so maybe some more drastic measures are needed. "Wow, I never knew you two had just a intense relationship."
That seems to got their attention quickly, as they distance themselves from each other.
"Congratulations, graduates," Iruka-sensei said to the class, then did a little speech before announcing the teams. "Team six will be Morisaki Shun, Tsukasa Hajime and Sakura Haruno."
Sakura is on another team does that mean...
"Team seven is Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto Uzumaki and Haruka Hyuga..."
Thank you, God, thank you so much.
After all the teams were announced, Iruka said to us. "Okay, everyone, I'll be introducing your jonin teachers this afternoon, until then, you're dismissed."
Everyone in the room started to move towards their new teammates, only a few wanting nothing to do with their teams for example Sasuke.
"Sasuke, everyone else is going to lunch with their teams, would like to come with us?" I asked, Naruto already was with me, not much to convince and team 10 and 8 are with us. Sasuke said nothing so I said. "Ino or Shikamaru may know who are jonin could be..."
"Fine."
It was a bit of a lie but Ino is really good about picking up gossip.
As everyone is eating lunch, I put the pictures on the middle of the table.
"So these are the available jonin?" Kiba asked.
"Except for her," Ino said, pointing at one of the pictures. "I heard mom saying she is going on maternity leave and..." she took a moment for bugging Shikamaru to help.
"Fine, fine, their on missions," Shikamaru said point out a few, while barely looking up from his sleep.
Some other conversations popped up as we narrowed down who they could be and all that, although I didn't tell them I already knew as it was fun. It also got everyone to bond over something.
After lunch was over, most of the jonin came to pick up their teams with Kurenai Yuhi being the first and most professional of the group. Sakura's Jonin got her team soon after and Asuma came in somewhere in the middle of early and late. Then there is our teacher and it just made things obvious as to who are jonin is.
It was a few hours after Iruka left, Naruto was raiding the classroom, Sasuke was grumbling with the occasional snap at Naruto and I was reading sealing text book from the genin section of the family library when I felt the chakra. This huge mass that gave off this static like feel to it, wondering down the hallway until it reached are door and then...
The eraser fell onto Kakashi's head.
"Ha ha ha," Naruto laughed. "Gotcha."
A glance at Sasuke showed how his respect level had dropped.
Its so weired how little they knew Kakashi, I mean it wasn't any secret that Kakashi was the fourth Hokage student and currently being one of the candidates considered for being the next Hokage. Its understandable for Naruto who is a goof off, not to care about these kind of things but Sasuke should at least know probably from his father or clansmen complaining about Kakashi's sharingan.
"Mmm...How shall I put this?" Kakashi-sensei said, a hand to his chin in the classic thinking pose. "Based on my first impression, I'd have to say...I hate you."
People don't say that to me very often, and if it was anyone but Kakashi I would have just ignored them.
"Meet me up on the roof," Kakashi-sensei said before disappearing, although more like moving really fast. The body flicker jutsu, I'm still amazed when I see people do that indoors as all I've managed to do is smack into a wall whenever I've tried to turn a corner well using it. The boost of speed by expelling chakra through the bottom of the feet, and through adding chakra to the muscles. Most do it subconsciously through the use of hand signs but I use my own slightly modified version without hand signs.
So the team went up to the roof, where Kakashi-sensei was waiting for us.
"Now, I'd like you all to tell us a little about yourselves," Kakashi-sensei said well sitting across from us on the railing. I never liked being up here, too open and high up, made me feel like I was going to be pushed or fall off the building. Kakashi seemed to realize the awkward silence of no knowing about what exactly he wanted so he said. "You know, the usual...likes, dislikes, dreams, ambitions, hobbies, things like that."
No one really wanted to go first, which only made me want to go less as Kakashi for all I knew about him from a manga and anime, I knew very little in this reality.
"Okay, how about...you on the right."
"Me, right," Naruto said adjusting his headband. "My name is Naruto Uzumaki, what I like is instant cup ramen and like it even more when Iruka-sensei treats me to ramen at Ichiraku noodles. What I hate is the three minutes wait after I pour in the boiling water. My dream is to one day..." Naruto paused as if for added drama. "Become Hokage and then all the villagers will have to acknowledge my existence at last!" the one eye that Kakashi had visible, actually seemed to widen a bit in surprise. "My hobbies are pranks and practical jokes, I guess."
"Next," Kakashi-sensei said.
I sat between Naruto and Sasuke to keep the peace, so I guess now I'm next. "My name is Haruka Hyuga, I like my twin sister Hinata and drawing, I dislike people constantly pestering me..." I had to think a little about my dream, I couldn't just say I want to change the upcoming events for the better and make sure that the ending stays on course, so maybe something from my past life. "My dream is to become an academy teacher, I guess, and my hobbies are sealing and drawing."
Academy teacher, nice job stupid, I've just made myself look like an idiot and get the family made at me if this gets out.
"Alright, next."
"My name is Sasuke Uchiha," Sasuke said with a slow drawn out tone. "There are plenty of things that I hate but I don't see that it matters, as there is almost nothing I like. It seems pointless to talk about 'dreams', that's just a word but what I do have is determination. I plan to restore my clan and there's someone I have sworn to kill."
"Alright, then," Kakashi-sensei said. "My name is Kakashi Hatake, my likes and dislikes don't really matter and you're too young to know my hobbies. While I believe we now understand one another, formal training begins tomorrow."
Naruto snapped to attention, saying loudly. "Yes, sir. What will our duties be?!"
"Our first project involves only the members of this cell."
"What is it? What?" Naruto asked, eager for Kakashi-sensei to tell him.
"Survival exercises."
"Survival exercises?" Naruto's eager attitude died down.
I already knew about this but I don't know what to say in this situation, and it seems that I'm not alone.
Kakashi let out a sigh, before saying. "Of the twenty-seven members of your graduating class, only nine will actually be accepted as genin, the other eighteen will be sent back to the academy for further training." Or genin corps. "The test we are about to perform has a 66% rate of failure."
Naruto and Sasuke seem to be stunned at this revelation, well at least for a little while.
"That sucks!" Naruto shouted. "We've been through it all, what about our graduation test?!"
"Oh, we wanted to eliminant all of the hopeless cases form your ranks. The ones who are left are the only students who show true potential."
"Say what?!"
"In any event, we'll meet tomorrow morning on the practice field so that I can evaluate each of your skills and weaknesses. Bring all of your ninja tools and weapons, and don't have breakfast before hand...unless you enjoy throwing up."
Kakashi handed out information sheets to us about the time, place, and so on, before flickering away. Naruto and Sasuke looked like they were going to leave so I stopped them.
"Wait."
"What?" Naruto asked, Sasuke merely glanced back.
"Well, it looks like you two didn't know who Kakashi-sensei is so I thought it would be a good idea to give you some information.." I lost confidence half way through and trailed off at the end, they stared at me for a little bit. "Cause, he's Kakashi of the sharingan, I thought..."
"What did you say?" Sasuke demanded.
I faltered under Sasuke's glare. "You know, he's like, one of the fourth Hokage's students..." that caught Naruto's attention. "...and he's famous for his actions during the third shinobi war so..."
"No, about the sharingan," Sasuke said.
"Yeah, um, he has one under the headband, his left eye was replaced with a sharingan from a fallen teammate," I told Sasuke. "Didn't you're parents talk about it, I mean, it was a big topic amongst my family..."
"No, they...didn't," Sasuke said. Oh, no, I think that I may have reminded him of some bad memories.
"Ah, well, so with our sensei being so strong, we should probably work together in this survival exercise so that we actually have any chance."
Sasuke stayed silent, probably the old memories being brought up hurt.
"Alright," Naruto said.
"Sasuke?" I asked, still no response. "It's are only chance to make genin."
"Fine," Sasuke said.
"Alright, well, we should probably do our regular training but no extra training as we should all get a good night's rest and also make sure to eat breakfast, as we need the energy no matter what sensei says," I said, adding the last bit in as it seemed that Naruto was about to protest.
The three of us split ways, all going to our own homes.
Interestingly enough, I found Hinata with Kurenai at my house, talking with father. Hinata also looked a little bet up, which I'm guessing is from the test that Kurenai made team 8 perform. It looks like Kurenai is just starting to take her leave when I arrived.
"Hey, Hinata, looks like you did the test today," I said to her.
"Yes," Hinata said, her timid nature showing under the pressure of father's glaze.
"And what about you, Haruka," father asked, hardly moving to see me, his eyes still on Kurenai.
"My teammates and I while perform the test tomorrow at dawn," I told him.
"Then why have you gotten back so late?"
"I'm sorry, our jonin-sensei was late by three hours."
Father didn't ask anything more, probably already knowing who it is.
"Maybe our teams can spar with each other to get some practice in for training for muti opponent battles," I said to Hinata, and some what to Kurenai. I should probably ask Ino sometime too, getting her team on board, and maybe even Neji's.
Hinata made a sound and a small head nod but didn't do much else with father around. The relationship between the two has become some what strained from the fact that I have been improving in leaps and bounds, while she has been falling behind, with only little improvements here and there.
After dinner I went about packing my things, most of which into storage seals to make everything lighter. It's the best thing about seals, a decent size scroll could fit enough storage seals packed with food to last one person a month. I really don't understand why this isn't taught more, I mean sure it takes a long time to understand everything but if you can just copy the basic storage, logistics would be so much less of an issue. Granted for this exercise one scroll should hold anything I need, I also packed some immediate supplies outside of the scroll just encase.
I also made a bunch of explosive tags, flash tags and other useful seals that would help. All of this is going to make for a nasty surprise for Kakashi-sensei tomorrow.
Alright, so next chapter will be the bell test, that will be an interesting thing to write. I think I'm going to draw a picture Haruka at this stage, though it's mostly just a copy of Hinata, there are some clothing style, hair style and such differences.
