I wake up to find tear stains on my pillow. I cried myself to sleep last night. It was the fault of Danny Trevanion, the 'Vet'. He gave Sarafina the wrong drug and it did more bad than good to her body. First it caused her heart rate increase dramatically; then she fell unconscious. Then she went into shock, her heart rate still rapidly increasing. After that, her body started showing signs of hypothermia. She was shaking. All of the veins and arteries in her body burst and there was blood everywhere. Everything was crimson. I could smell it. I could taste it in the air. It was coming from her mouth, her leg and her stomach. She was covered in it. I was covered in it. She went into cardiac arrest. Her heart stopped, and that's when Danny arrived. He did what he could to make it stop. It didn't work. She died shortly after. I was devastated.

"Harriett…" Rosie knocks softly on my bedroom door. "Can I come in?" I nod. Tiptoeing, so that she won't wake anyone else, Rosie enters my room and sits on my bed. "Are you OK?" I sit up so that I can talk to her.

"Moping and moaning won't do much for my health, will it?" Rosie doesn't say anything. She just sits there and stares at me. "I'm fine." She nods and stands up.

"If there's anything you need…"

"I'll let you know."

"Alright. Do you want me to see to Violet, today?"

"No. I'll be there in a minute."

"OK. See you then."

"Bye." And she leaves.

Ten minutes later, I'm sat in Violet's enclosure, once again drowning my sorrows in words. "Violet, I know I only knew her for three days, and I didn't even properly know her, but I shouldn't have had to watch her die." Tears fill my eyes. "I mean, I'd just rescued her. And then it took me two whole days to bring her here so that she could get better, only for her to die the next morning." The tears begin running freely down my cheeks and I burry my face in her side. "And it's all Trevanion's fault."
