storyfrikk: I'm glad the chapter was great!
xx-Want-A-Sugar-Cube-xx: Clove...? Maybe.
Walking Tribute Directioner: YAY!
Paylor
We're all still amused from when Marvel was resurrected, and the joy of reviving people has finally set in.
Beetee calls out, "Glimmer. Tribute from District 1. Female. 74th Hunger Games." Everyone scrambled to press the correct buttons.
"Age?" I ask Beetee.
"20," he answers.
Setting the age line, I am about to press the revitalizing button, when I hear someone call, "Wait."
I turn to see the slightly mortified scientist who had interrupted, looking rather unsure of himself.
"Is there something wrong?" I ask him.
"Ex-Excuse me, President P-Paylor," The scientist begins, "but... am I the only one who doesn't want Glimmer to return?" Some of the other scientists start nodding slowly.
"I understand," Beetee says. "But what will people say? What about the people in District 1, who wanted either Marvel or Glimmer to win? We have to be fair to everyone."
"I know how you feel," I say, "but as President of the New Panem, I desire equality in as many categories and as much as possible. So Glimmer has to be revitalized." I give him an apologetic look as I press the button.
Glimmer
I wake up in a white cylinder. What happened? I was practically stung to death by tracker jackers. I had insane hallucinations of Cato kissing nearly every girl and guy in the arena except Lover Boy and District 11, and that left a bad taste in my mouth. Then I felt like something stabbed me, and I was gone.
The doors open, and I find myself in a weird room full of people in lab coats.
I stare at the people for a split second. "Am I... alive?"
"You are," I hear. I looked at the official woman speaking.
"How? I have to be dead. I'm not the Victor of the 74th Hunger Games. Am I?" I perk up at the last statement. Am I the Victor? My family would be so happy! I would be so happy!
"No," The seemingly head scientist, the one with the clipboard, answers bluntly. "It's been three or four years since then."
"Oh," I feel dejected. "Wait, three or four years?" I look down at my body to find myself in an older version of my 17-year-old body. "Am I... older?"
"Yes," another scientist say nervously. "T-The H-Hovercraft to District 1 i-is on the roof, w-waiting for you."
"I'm leaving immediately?" I ask curiously. "Doesn't President Snow have a plan in mind?" More like "ulterior motive to make his current tributes suffer from our wrath like we aren't human dolls", but "plan" works too.
"There is no President Snow. I'm President Paylor," The official woman introduces herself to me. "We revived you so you can go back home and live your life."
"I can... go... home?" My voice rises at the end. There's no more... the purpose I had been training for for almost my whole life is worthless now.
"You can," President Paylor said. "You will receive half of what a normal Victor would get these days, but it will almost be necessary for you to get a job."
"O...Okay," I said. "Should I... just... go?"
Some of the scientists started. One coughed, and said, "Yes, Miss Glimmer, you can go."
"Thank you," I smiled at them before leaving the room.
I saw my home as soon as the hovercraft approached District 1. I leaned on the edge of my seat, waiting eagerly for the hovercraft land. The minute it landed and the door opened, I was one of the first to break through to the sunshine.
Running down the street, I found the candy shop I had loved so much when I was a child. If I was revived, then he would be.
I flung open the door, the bell rang loudly.
"Glimmer!" The matronly figure grins brightly. She walked around the counter to give me a hug. "I forgot you would be revived!"
"Well, I am," I smile. "Is Marvel home?"
"No," the woman says apologetically, "But he'll be home soon. Like some candy?"
"Of course!" I answer, reaching for my purse.
"No, sweetie, the first five boxes of candy bought by revived Victors and their families combined are free. So take your pick," Marvel's mom says brightly.
"Hey Mom, when's Marvel going to be - hey!" A beautiful girl, about fourteen or fifteen, stops abruptly. "Glimmer!" She runs and embraces me. "You're back!"
"Death couldn't stop me," I laugh. "Where did Marvel go?"
"I'm right here." I whirl. There was Marvel, in the doorway, a basket on his arm. "Mom, I got the medicine for you."
"Thank you, Marvel." His mom gives him a thankful smile as she took it.
"Glimmer," Marvel says finally. "You're back."
"I'm home," I say softly. "I have no other home but here." I know that he knows what I'm trying to say. I'm a girl who spent her time working in the higher class homes, giving the impression that I was rich - which I was far from. I was an orphan who found that working for the candy shop on the corner of Diamond Street and Golden Road was my favorite place, my home.
"Then welcome home," Marvel smiled. Wrapping his arms around me, he leaned in and placed his chin on top of my head. "honorary sister."
Paylor
I wait until I'm certain Glimmer is out of earshot and then turn to the scientist. "There's so much more to humanity than what you see on television," I say, not unkindly.
"I know it now," the doubting scientist replies in relief and happiness.
First of all, I'm SO SO SO SO Sorry for not uploading. It's been a hectic month. I SO much writing to do. I have to write a decently long skit due on Halloween, and we're performing it then, and we have to assign parts and get ideas and... I'm overwhelmed. Not to mention I'm taking a few honors classes, and it's driving me insane. So I'm sorry, and I'll try to release little parts of the chapters slowly. I'll try for a half chapter every week, meaning there'll be a double cliffhanger.
Anyway, just so you know, Glimmer is NOT Marvel's love interest. She is just a really close friend.
There's a poll on my profile about which would be a good page to have in case I need to reach out to you, fellow readers.
OH! And tell me in the reviews who you want Marvel to be with. I have a few ideas, but I MIGHT just take yours.
