A.N.:So this is just a snippet...because I just want to let you guys know I'm not dead...
HIGHTON
Man, I hate waiting.
You're already nervous of something that's about to happen, but no. No, that just isn't bad enough. instead of getting it over with, you're forced to sit in a tight spot, acting like you're happy and muscles shaking as you realize that its going to be really hard to not act as if you have to go to the bathroom. And butterflies in your stomach? No, these are more like a swarm of spiderbees attacking your heart and everything else inside your body.
In my case, I was waiting for something I'd never thought would happen to me. Waiting to airbend.
After our daring escape from Ba Sing Sae, which invovled a lot of cheering, screaming, and 'take that, suckers!' Tenzin decided that escaping execution wasn't bad enough. He picked THAT moment, five seconds after flying into the clouds, he picked THAT moment to say:
"Lets begin training."
At first I laughed, a relief after such a tense moment, and so did Kunyu and Li, but Tenzin simply frowned with puzzlement and said:
"What's so funny?"
And I stopped laughing.
So here we were, on the balcony of an airship that was flying into the clouds at a steady pace. I noticed that we were still gaining altitude, and whenever I thought about how high we were, I wanted to throw up my lamb chops and fried rice. I hadn't told anybody about my fear of hights, but I admit that I should've. I'm supposed to be an airbender, and they're all about hights, so if I was going to be one I have to get over this fear.
Which wasn't going to be easy.
All of a sudden I noticed Tenzin pointing to me and calling my name. He was gesturing towards me and motioning for me to come towards him. I trudged over, awkwardly dodging Li and Bossan, who were currently practicing their form with help from Kai and Jinora. No air seemed to be even wisping out of their fingertips. But that wasn't my concern as I was walking towards the edge of the balcony with Tenzin waiting.
I was studying Kai, who had changed visibly since we were kids. I wanted to catch up with him, but there were too many things on our minds at the moment, and I hoped to update him about my life after he left, but I quickened my pace as I noticed Tenzin involuntarily tapping his foot in impatience. Once I reached him, I was careful to stay a few feet away because we were still gaining altitude and I preferred to keep my lunch inside my stomach. I guess it seemed kind of awkward, because Tenzin this this weird shuffle-thing with his feet and moved towards me.
"Highton, do you mind if I speak to you for a minute?" He said, gesturing towards the balcony. I understood exactly what he meant, but I preferred to play dumb and act as if I didn't.
"Um...yes..sir?" I asked with a hint of shyness. Okay, maybe more than a hint.
He gestured towards the balcony again, and I just shrugged. He sighed and whispered,
"Could you lean over the balcony?"
"What?" My heart started beating faster.
"So we can talk in private, please." He sighed again. So much for first impressions.
"Yeah...Yeah, sure."
As we leaned over, I glanced back at Kai. He was fixing Bossan's stance, and he and Jinora weren't paying attention as they accidentally brushed their hands together as they tried to adjust Bossan's hand position. They both withdrew like they just got zapped with lightning, and Jinora looked so red I thought she would melt. I smirked. Of course.
I snapped my head back, and saw that Tenzin was staring at the exact same thing that I was. But he wasn't smirking.
Oh boy.
