A/N: This chapter isn't the most exciting, but it helps move things along. I'll try to get the next chapter up as soon as possible, but since it's my Birthday (yay!) I'll probably be a little distracted for a bit. I'm still blown away by the response this story has gotten. You are all so great. Every follow, favorite, and review brings a smile to my face. Reviews make wonderful Birthday presents too, don't they? Anyway, I hope you all enjoy this bit and I have the same disclaimer as always.

It didn't take long for Tommy to get his passengers back to the Boston Police Department that afternoon despite the usual traffic. Once they arrived Jane said goodbye to her mother and spoke a hushed thank you for just being there. She made her way to her car quickly, not wanting to see anyone inside the building after causing the earlier commotion. Ambulances are far from subtle. Truth be told, Jane was slightly embarrassed and wanted to avoid any questions about her pregnancy and what had happened.

Jane leaned casually against her cruiser and waited patiently for Maura who had to run down to the morgue to collect some paperwork. The detective's thoughts went from the morning to the afternoon and all the things that were said at the hospital. An odd melancholy washed over her as a cool breeze ruffled her curls. As much as she tried not to, she focused on what could have happened, all the terrible ways the trip to the hospital could have turned out. Jane shook her head and tried her best to drop those thoughts like the dangerous things they were.

One deep breath.

Focus on what's real. She told herself.

A second deep breath.

Everything is fine.

A third, much shakier breath was forced between quivering lips. Jane could feel the anxiety tightening in her chest.

The sound of a door opening caught her attention. When she looked up she watched as Maura approached, her gentle sashay relaxed Jane. By the time Maura had reached her, Jane's bright smile mirrored the doctor's. Everything is great.

"I know what I want for lunch."

"The reason I'm allowing you to have pizza on a Monday is because you compromised with the toppings. Vegetables are better than pepperoni." Maura unlocked and pushed her front door open as she spoke. She stepped into her home, Jane was close behind with a pizza box in hand.

"I don't believe you. Admit it- you wanted pizza just as much as I did, that's why you agreed. I saw the way your eyes lit up when I suggested it." Jane kicked the door closed with her booted foot.

"I will admit to no such thing." The slight twitch at the corner of full lips was all the admission Jane needed.

They set about plating their meal after changing into more comfortable clothes. Yoga pants and a worn sweater for Maura and sweatpants paired with a plain tank for Jane.

It was all so automatic and routine: the way Maura chose two dishes while Jane poured a glass of red wine and two glasses of sparkling water. The choreography had been perfected over the years during hundreds of movie nights and dinners, except now the well-known steps had a few additions. Like a small kiss to the blonde's temple as Jane stepped around her or the way Maura kissed a small droplet of sauce from the detective's chin right after scolding her for sneaking a piece of bell pepper.

The couple curled up on the couch with the early dinner on their laps, the remaining pizza on the coffee table in its box. Silence fell, comfortable and warm, over the women as the chewed and savored every tasty morsel.

"I still can't believe you'd name our baby something that means 'hostage'." Jane spoke through a mouthful of cheesy goodness.

Maura on the other hand waited to swallow her food before speaking.

"It was just a suggestion, Jane."

"Well, I guess it was better than my mother's other suggestion of Roberta."

"She means well." Maura reasoned but was relieved that Jane didn't share the same taste in names as Angela. "And if I'm recalling correctly, she had more suggestions than you."

"That's because I don't really care." Jane dropped her last piece of crust on her empty plate. When she looked over she saw a hint of disappointment on Maura's face and realized just how her last statement could be misconstrued. She quickly amended, "I just want something that's short and sounds nice with Rizzoli-Isles. I'll leave the meanings and stuff to you."

Maura basked for a moment on how unbelievable it was to be expecting a child with both their last names. She shot a wide smile at Jane.

"Okay." Maura took another small bite of her pizza and Jane reached for her third slice.

It wasn't until after the dishes were rinsed and the leftovers packed away that Maura settled once more into her plush sofa, bare feet tucked beneath herself, spoke again.

"So, you're mother knows about us." Her bent elbow sunk into the cushions on the back of the couch and she rested her head in her hand. She watched Jane approach and sit with a graceless thud just an inch from her own body. With a deep breath she recognized how her soul calmed at the closeness.

"She does." Jane mirrored Maura's position.

"And she's moving out."

"She is." Jane's smile was bright, broad, and wild.

Maura leaned a bit to reach her wineglass and encouraged Jane to drink more water.

"We need to talk about today." The doctor's voice was soft, hesitant as she spoke.

"I told you exactly what happened. They wouldn't let me call you-"

"Before that. Jane," Maura set her wineglass down and leaned into the detective. She rested her right hand on Jane's knee as she continued. "You hate hospitals. Whatever you felt while you were in the cafe must have been scary."

Jane sat in silence. How could she explain something that seems so terrifying in one moment and then silly in the next? She searched Maura's eyes for what kind of confession she was really after, but she only saw concern there.

"I started to feel really nauseous after I took a bite of my sandwich so I went to the bathroom. I wanted to talk to you about it but I left my phone on the table. By time I made it back to Ma I had a pain, I was sweating, and started to feel really dizzy."

"I'm so sorry I was unavailable, Jane." Maura's hand moved from Jane's knee to the warm, bare skin of her neck. She found herself tracing shapeless patterns there like she'd been doing it for years.

"It's okay." Jane's eyes closed to the touch and she took a deep breath. A small smile returned to her beautiful face. "I was so scared that something was wrong, that I did something wrong."

"You're doing everything right. I'm glad you went to the hospital."

"Me too." Jane's left hand went to Maura's thigh and traveled up and down a few times as her thoughts ran wild. "We have the week off, do you think I should start moving in?" Her eyes didn't meet Maura's this time.

"Absolutely!" The ME didn't bother to hide her enthusiasm at the idea.

"I figure now that Ma knows it's only a matter of time before my brothers and Cavanaugh know."

"Speaking of which, I think we should tell him ourselves."

"Oh do you?" Jane raised her eyebrows.

"Yes. In the event that anything happens to you in the field," Maura fought back the surprising rush of tears she felt at the prospect, "I want him to be aware of what's going on. I want to be contacted immediately."

"Okay." Jane noticed the painful shift across Maura's features. It was a real possibility, and that scared both of them. "Okay. Of course. We'll tell him as soon as we get back to work."

"Or if we catch him sneaking out of the guest house."

"Ew." Jane recoiled. "Don't be gross."

Both women lightened the mood with a hearty laugh.

When another lengthy silence went on, Jane sat back and admired the woman next to her. Maura sat contently and played with the ends of her long, golden hair. Jane could feel the memory of its softness come to life in her fingertips. Her hands twitched involuntarily. Maura then moved enough to let her head fall back against the couch and Jane's eyes fell to her exposed throat. The faint thump of a pulse danced below the ivory skin. The detective's nostrils flared when she thought of the natural scent that only Maura held. The ME stretched, arching her back into the cushions and Jane wondered if Maura had any idea what she was doing to her. The rose colored sweater rode up an inch as Maura's body moved, exposing an inch of tantalizing skin just above the waistband of her tight black pants. Jane swallowed hard when a small groan escaped Maura's plump mouth.

Jane sprang into action.

Jane gripped one full thigh and tugged eagerly, bringing the petite doctor to a seated position atop her lap. Maura shifted so she was steady and comfortable with both her knees planted on each side of Jane's slim hips. She pushed her blond hair from in front of her face and looked into Jane's dark eyes.

"Is there something I can do for you, Detective?" Maura asked playfully but quickly realized the time for games was over.

"Kiss me." Jane growled and pulled Maura against her chest and brought their lips together.

The high emotion of the day and the absence of one another still lingered from the night before. Jane couldn't get enough of Maura. Judging by the eager way Maura dug her fingers into unruly curls Jane could surmise that the feeling was mutual. Their kisses were relentless, unyielding, and catastrophic in their intensity.

"What are you doing to me?" Maura spoke barely above a whisper as Jane's lips assaulted her neck. The ME was panting, growing dizzy from her rapid breathing.

"What do you mean?" A velvety tongue dipped into the notch at the center of Maura's clavicle. Jane reached up with her left hand and covered a full breast. She could feel Maura's nipple harden beneath her palm almost instantly.

"You touch me and I have no control."

"Let go, lose control." Before Jane finished her statement she found herself lying on her back. "Whoa."

Maura ground herself down into the detective's pelvis in an attempt to partially satisfy the throbbing between her legs. A small moan escaped her swollen lips. She placed one hand beside Jane's head and the other in the center of her chest. The brunette's quickened heartbeat matched her own.

"Jane, I'm afraid going slow is no longer an option." Her hips circles again, this time she threw her head back for a second before she lowered it again and darkened eyes pierced the woman beneath her. "Don't ask me to stop."

Jane sat up immediately and wrapped her arms around Maura's small waist. Her strong hands encouraged her to continue the slow grind. She could feel Maura's heat through her yoga pants, she could smell her desire and her mouth watered.

"I only have one request." Jane spoke before claiming Maura's mouth in a searing kiss. She let her tongue dance along the length of its partner. She tasted Maura and swallowed her moans. She pulled back with a wet pop. "Bedroom."
