A/N: You all probably hate me for not updating, I bet there's none of you left...I'm really sorry, but I am a really forgetful unorganised person. I try to say I'll update regularly but things get in the way. And some people were wondering, it's two-three years after Breaking Dawn.
Disclaimer: I don't own Twilight or Wife Swap.
Esme POV
I looked around the small room and sighed. Emily had just gone to bed after helping me unpack, and she was the last of the kids. I knew Kevin was asleep, I could hear his snores. How was I going to get out to hunt? There was no wildlife for miles (Carlisle had done research on the area) and the family could walk in at any moment and realise I was missing, better yet I could not return till when they'd be up in the morning . My throat was starting to burn though, so I quickly changed my clothes, and opened the window, wincing when it squeaked, though I could still hear the peaceful breaths from the family. I jumped out the window and started to run.
I removed my teeth from the lifeless deer and stepped away satisfied. I'd managed to find ten squirrels (not very filling but surprisingly tasty) and miraculously an elk and deer which more than saturated my thirst.
I checked my watch-a present from Renesmee, the darling-and gasped when I realised it was 6:30. The family would be up in about an hour! I quickly started to run, avoiding main roads, just to be careful, until I stopped at the parking lot of a supermarket. I walked in, and picked up some eggs, milk and flour before going to the counter. I hated doing it, but I was in a hurry so I flashed the man in the front of the queue a smile, fluttered my eyelashes (shameful) and let my breath fan across his face as I asked if I could cut in. He nodded dumbly and I quickly paid, leaving him dumbfounded and the people in the queue mad. Like I said, I hated to do it.
I made it back to the house at 8:30, and noticed the light was on. I took a breath and walked in, the family were crowded around the kitchen table.
"Oh! Esme! We were wondering where you'd gotten." Kevin said smiling.
"Oh, I thought I'd buy some things to make pancakes. I noticed we were short. It seems you've already eaten though. Maybe tomorrow?"
Kevin chuckled and nodded.
"But you were gone for like an hour." Tommy said frowning. I laughed softly.
"Yes, I decided to take a look around the town. It's lovely here. Plus the fact I may have gotten a bit lost." Casey giggled and I smiled at her making her beam brightly. "So, what are the plans for today?"
"Um, we were wondering if you wanted to go to the travelling fair." Jack said, looking almost desperate.
"That's a wonderful idea! I'd love to!" The kid's jaw dropped before big smiles appeared on their faces.
"Seriously?" Emily said, in awe.
"Sure, why not?"
"Okay kids, go get ready." Kevin said. I helped them clear the dishes as they ran upstairs, chatting excitedly.
"Um, Kevin?" I said, remembering my little sun problem.
"Yes?"
"Have you seen the weather for today?" His face fell.
"Yes, it's raining I know, but only slightly, the kids won't mind." I sighed in relief and nodded as Kevin went to change.
Why were they so excited about a carnival? Surely they've been before. Or not. Their mother was very strict.
Leanne POV
"Morning's here." People sang in the distance. I scowled internally, ignoring them. "The morning's here! Sunshine is here, the sky is clear oh mornings here! Get into gear, breakfast is near." The voices were growing louder and more annoying each line. "The dark of night has disappeared!"
I sighed irritably, opening my eyes to reveal Emmett and Jasper, both grinning widely.
"Did you like it?" Emmett boomed. "It's from Friends! Great show...great show." I looked at him in bemusement.
"Come on, it's 5 am, we have places to go, people to see!" Jasper said brightly. Wait, did he say FIVE AM?
"Where are we going so early, and why are you in my room?" I frowned.
"To get you up silly, and it's a surprise! Get dressed, get dressed!" I glared at the boys. How rude and disrespectful.
"You two should learn to respect those elder than you." I said, raising my head. They both snorted. "Now, if you would please leave my room so I could change."
They both smirked and walked out, slamming the door behind them. My mouth opened in shock. Could this family be any worse?
I climbed out of bed, and tied my hair tightly into a bun. After looking outside I realised it was raining slightly. I decided on a brown sweater and grey pants, before walking downstairs. I saw Alice first, coming out of Jasper's room. Hmmm, strange. She saw me and widened her eyes in fear. I smiled and said hello politely. She returned the greeting, before seeing my outfit, letting out a little squeak and turning around, running away. I blushed, suddenly feeling very self conscious.
I walked downstairs, and stuck my head into the kitchen. The kids were crowded around the table, and Carlisle was standing, leaning against the counter wearing a blue button down. Oh help me Lord...Edward and Bella then decided to walk in with Renesmee, and I had to bite back a groan seeing Edward.
"Morning." I said quietly, sliding into a free seat.
"Morning." Came the mumbled replies.
Renesmee placed a plate of sausages and eggs in front of me and I smiled gratefully.
"How did you sleep?" Carlisle asked.
"Very well thank you." I said taking a bite. "May I ask, where are we heading today." The kids all shared a smirk and I narrowed my eyes at them.
"Oh, I'm afraid that's a surprise." Carlisle laughed.
I looked around, noticing that only Nessie, Jacob and I were touching our food.
"Are you not going to eat?" The kids all nodded hastily, with the exception of Rosalie who glared at me.
Bella meekly put an egg in her mouth, wincing, and I saw the other kids follow suit. Rosalie remained glaring. Was she anorexic or something?
Edward jumped up.
"I need to go...tend to my plants."
He ran off and the others stood up.
"I'm gonna grab a jacket.
"Same."
"Yeah, I need to go to the bathroom."
"I'm gonna go...polish my mirror."
I raised an eyebrow as they each disappeared.
"Right, that was very nice, I should probably grab a jacket too."
I walked up the stairs, passing by the bathroom, though stopped when hearing voices. I know it's wring, but how else do you find things out about children?
"Dude hurry up!" Emmett whined. "I feel the sausage in my stomach. Ugh."
"Go to another bathroom." Edward moaned. "I ate way more than you, she watched me longer." I blushed. "Stupid food." I heard the unmistakable sound of throwing up, and gasped lightly. Were they battling bulimia?
I ran away quickly, grabbing my jacket and running downstairs. This family were getting more mysterious each day.
Emily POV
I looked around the fair in awe. The bright lights, tall rides. I've always wanted to come, but we'd never been allowed. Mom didn't approve. That's why I loved the fact that Esme was here. Not only did she let us come here, she let me wear some normal clothes for once. Jeans and a t-shirt. I liked it, it was a lot better than long skirts and turtlenecks. There was a crew of cameras behind us, which many people were gawking at.
"Emily!" Casey said, pulling my hand. "Come with me on teacups!" I nodded grinning as Esme followed us with half the camera crew while the boys went with dad somewhere else with the other half.
"Mind if I join you?" she asked.
"Nope, come on!" Casey squealed leading us to the queue.
"Have you guys ever been to a carnival before?" I blushed and shook my head. "Oh! Well, we must go on every ride then." She said kindly. I looked at her confused.
She was being so nice. My mother was never like this, she never had time for fun and I think the last time we'd laughed together was when I was four years old. She was a difficult woman, and I don't think I could say I loved her, tolerated, yes but loved? No way.
The line dwindled and when it was our turn, I was bouncing on the balls of my feet in excitement with a wide grin. Soon enough it was our turn.
"Oooo! Esme may we pleeeeease go in the pink one?" Esme chuckled.
"If it's alright with your sister." Casey turned to me pouting.
"Uh, yes sure." I was shocked. I wasn't used to having my opinion asked for.
Casey grabbed my arm and pulled me towards the desired cup, just beating another little girl. I felt a little bad as she trudged off.
"Um, how does this work?" I said awkwardly as I sat.
"You just spin the wheel in the centre. Don't worry though, I'll manage."
Casey grabbed my hand in hers and linked our fingers and I shot her a smile as we started to spin. My stomach lurched at the quick speed but I soon got used to it and was laughing and yelling happily with my sister. All too soon, we slowed to a stop. Casey hopped put first, stumbling about, and only then did I noticed the awed stares on us. I blushed and stepped out, my head spinning with dizziness. I turned, seeing Esme step out gracefully and walk over.
"How are you not dizzy?" I said in confusion. Esme stiffened for a moment.
"I have 8 kids Emily, one of which who is 10 years old. I'm used to it." She laughed and I smiled nodding slowly. It still seemed a little shady. As we were walking to the exit a little girl, no older than Casey ran to us.
"Excuse me miss?" she said to Esme. "How did you spin so fast?"
We were fast? I wasn't sure, I'd never done this before. But maybe that's why we were given weird looks.
"Practise."
"Wow! Would you mind coming on with me? My name's Maya."
"Esme, and this is Emily, and Casey. I'd love to come with you." Esme smiled and took her hands. "Girls?"
"Oh I'll come!" Casey yelled grabbing her other hand. Esme looked to me expectantly.
"Nah, I'll get some cotton candy."
I stepped away from the ride, and bumped into something, falling back, but I was stopped by an arm wrapping around my torso and yanking me up, bringing me face to face with a pair of warm hazel eyes.
"Oh! Uh, thanks." I stuttered. The boy grinned and grabbed my hand again shaking it.
"Alex Carnicelli, pleasure to meet you."
"Emily Marsh, you too. Carnicelli, is that Italian or something?"
"Yep, dad's Italian, ma's American, we just moved here from Jersey." I nodded.
"Why would you move to our little town from Jersey?"
"Ma grew up here, she wanted to be closer to her sister and parents."
"Oh, cool so are you going to attend the school round here?"
"Yup, junior. What are you?"
"Sophomore."
"Cool, cool. Um, do you realise there's a camera on you?"
I turned, seeing Al. We'd gotten to know some of the crew.
"Oh that's just Al, I'm part of Wife Swap, you know the show?"
"Don't tell me you're the wife." he joked. I laughed.
"My mom has swapped for a couple of weeks."
All of a sudden, Maya came running up and jumped on Alex.
"Oh, Emily this is my little sister Maya." I smiled.
"We've met."
Esme and Casey came just after.
"Emily, I thought you were getting cotton candy?" Esme asked.
"I got to talking to Alex here. Alex this is my little sister Casey, and my mom for the next two weeks, Esme." They both smiled at Alex.
"Al, is this your girlfriend?" Maya asked. I blushed.
"N-no, I have a boyfriend already Maya." Alex tensed.
"Maya let's go, we're going to grandma and grandpa for dinner tonight." I ducked my head sadly at his cold demeanour as Maya and Casey hugged.
"Bye Casey, see you at school!" They walked off and I groaned, dropping my head into my hands.
"Are you alright?" Esme asked worriedly. I nodded.
"Yeah, I'm fine, what else could I have done? Can we go find my dad?" Esme nodded and placed her hand on my back.
I shivered at how cold she was, but my mind was elsewhere, on warm brown eyes and floppy black hair. Alex
Cullen's activity hopefully up soon x
