Chapter 9: Gohans Plight
Bold = Japanese
Gohan was in lotus position while in deep meditation. He was floating mid air as if he were in a trance.
'Okay this is really starting to bug me now. I can't even meditate in peace.' Gohan thought as his eyes snapped open. He floated down until he was standing on his own two feet. He walked out of his room and towards the front door.
"Are you alright Gohan? You look disturbed." Xavier said with a questionable look.
Gohan smiled. "I'm fine professor. I just couldn't get into my meditation so I'm going to try outside. Being surrounded by nature gives me a feeling of tranquility."
Xavier nodded. "Nature is very peaceful is it not? Do be careful now. I know you're powerful, but that doesn't stop me from worrying."
Gohan smiled sadly. "My mother always said that as well when she was still part of the living."
Xavier frowned. "Gohan you can't keep blaming yourself for that. What happened was out of your control."
Gohan laughed dryly. "Out of my control? You saw the memories yourself. I had the power to end things, but I didn't know how to control it. I couldn't unleash it, because I never trained it. She died because of me and no one will tell me otherwise. "
Xavier had tears brimming in his eyes. "You had to suffer so much in your life. I am truly sorry for that. You've felt so much pain. I..."
Gohan held his hand out to stop the Xaviers speech. "You don't have to apologize professor. I accepted the death of my parents. I accepted the blame. I shoulder the weight of their death, and because of that I am a better person for it."
Xavier smiled sadly. "You might feel like a better person, but are you happy? That's what matters in the end."
Gohan stayed quiet for a few minutes mulling over the question. "Am I happy? I'll admit I have happy moments at times. If I have to say anything then I will say I'm content with my life. No matter how much turmoil I go through I'll always try to see the brighter side. Life is too short for me to not enjoy."
"I wish more people thought like that Gohan. That is a great mindset to have."
Gohan shook his head. "I say that, but the whole reason I'm here is because I went out of control with my emotions. I cursed the gods in my anger. I wish you never seen that."
"Many would've broken before that point. You were able to hold in so much pain for such a long time. You took a lot in stride. You hit a breaking point, but even that only lasted about a day. You rebound faster than any one I've ever seen."
Gohan bowed his head. "You shouldn't think to highly of me professor. There are still many things I hid from you that involves my past. You didn't see everything. I have my skeletons in the closet. If you thought I was low after my grandfathers passing then you would've been disgusted at me after my moms death. I was at an all time low. I did many things I'm not proud of."
Xavier sighed. "I'm sure many of us have some things we did that we're not proud of. Myself included."
Gohan raised his head. "I am glad I got to talk this out though. I feel a lot better."
Xavier smiled. "Well that makes me happy. If you ever need to talk you know where to find me."
Gohan nodded. "Thank you professor." Gohan walked out the front door and kept walking until the mansion was out of view.
"Okay whoever you are you can come out now!" Gohan yelled.
A figure jumped out and landed behind him. Gohan turned to face his follower. He narrowed his eyes when he saw the form of Wolverine.
"I can't get past you huh?" Wolverine said with a smirk.
Gohans gaze hardened. "Stalking me is one thing, but I won't stand idly by while you try to trick me by pretending to be a friend. Now who are you?"
Wolverine shape shifted into a blue skinned yellowed eyed woman. Her red hair was flowing behind her. "How did you figure me out so fast."
"I'm not obliged to answer any of your questions, so I have a proposition for you. How about you tell me why you were stalking me for the past few hours and maybe I'll tell you how I figured you out."
Mystique narrowed her eyes. 'This cheeky little brat.' "So basically I tell you what you want to know and I get nothing in return?"
Gohan smirked. "You caught me. Okay I promise I'll tell you how I figured you out if you tell me what I want to know."
Mystique nodded. "I kept an eye on you, so I could catch you when you were alone. There is someone who wants to have a word with you."
"And who exactly wants to have a word with me?"
Mystiqe shook her head. "I answered your question, so now its time you answered mine."
Gohan chuckled. "But that's not what was promised. I said I'll tell you how I figured you out if you tell me what I want to know. You haven't told me everything I want to know yet."
Mystique growled in annoyance. "I don't have time for these games."
"Then you better start answering my questions."
'Just do it for the mission. You can't fail right now.' Mystique thought to herself as she took a deep breath to calm herself.
Gohan smiled sadistically on the inside, but he didn't let it show on his face. 'She's letting her anger show. The best way to get answers is to rile someone up until they slip up some useful information on accident. That and it serves her right for messing with my meditation.
"The person who wants to meet you is Magneto. I assume you know who he is?"
Gohan immediately stopped all mind games. He looked Mystique straight into her eyes and nodded. "Honestly I wanted to talk with him myself."
This threw Mystique for a loop. "You're willingly going to meet up with him? Why so eager? I thought I would have to drag you to him by force."
"Lets just say... I heard alot about him. I want to see for myself what he's like."
"Well then lets get going."
As they were walking to their destination, Gohan saw Mystiques eyes roaming over to him. He chuckled a little. "Something on your mind? If you have something to ask just ask it."
"You know who I am right?" Mystique asked.
Gohan nodded. "You're Mystique. I heard a lot about you from the other Xmen. They weren't very positive."
"Did you expect them to be positive?"
Gohan shrugged. "I didn't know what to expect honestly. Stories are just stories. You can never believe every word you hear. I choose to judge people based on my own personal experiences with them. "
"I see why Magneto wants to have a conversation with you. You are...interesting to say the least."
"Thanks I guess."
They kept walking until they reached a building that looked empty. Gohan chuckled a bit. "Figures you would pick a place like this." 'I need to keep my guard up. Its probably nothing, but metal in here for him to manipulate.' Gohan thought.
"Well this chat can't really happen in public without eavesdroppers." Mystique answered.
They walked in to see a man standing before them. He wore a reddish body suit with a purple cape. He had matching purple gloves, boots and a metallic red and purple helmet.
"I see you came and it doesn't look like it came down to a fight." Magneto observed.
"I came willingly. I wanted to talk to you as well." Gohan replied. "I want to hear why you wanted to meet with me first though. I'm curious."
Magneto nodded. "I'll make this short. I want you to come to my side. I've seen what you can do and you shouldn't waste your power with the Xmen. They will never help you realize your true potential."
"How have you seen my power? When?"
"When you took down the juggernaut. You think he escaped his prison on his own? That was us. We sent him to test the younger mutants, but we never expected someone like you to show up."
Gohan looked confused. "Who's us?"
"Other mutants like yourself and I that fight for our own kind."
"Wait I thought the Professor fought for mutants."
"That fool doesn't fight for mutants. He wants equality for mutants, but he wants coexistence between humans and mutants. He feels the humans lives are worth as much as ours no matter how many times they slaughter us."
"And you feel mutants are above humans."
Magneto nodded. "I tried Charles way before, but it always ends the same. Humans killing mutants in cold blood. They don't want to help or understand us and that's what Charles will never get. We just want to live and that will never happen if humans are still killing us."
Gohan nodded in understanding. "I see your point. Professor Xavier does seem like kind of a pushover. You said you tried it his way and it didn't work out?"
Magneto nodded causing Gohan to continue. "You fight to protect your fellow mutants. I can respect that, but I don't respect the ways you go about it. The end goal does not justify the means. You claim to be better than humans, but you're not. You kill just like they do and its not just out of self defense. Some times you guys are the aggressors."
Magneto frowned. "So I guess you are declining my invitation?"
Gohan sighed. "I am."
Magneo shook his head. "I hate that it came to this. " He raised his hands as metal surrounded Gohan. He manipulated the metal to wrap around the demi saiyan keeping him trapped. "I had hoped that you would see things my way."
Gohan let his aura explode and sent the metal flying away. "I'm not here to fight Magneto. Trust me I see things your way. I just can't join you."
Magneto stopped his attacked. "What do you mean? If you see it my way then why not join us?"
"I understand that humans are weird. They dislike anyone different because they don't understand and are afraid. A lot of humans are disgusting creatures, but I've met plenty of humans that are the exact opposite. I have met other people who aren't humans who are even worse than humans. Fighting fire with fire won't work. I understand where you stand, and I want no part of it."
Magneto growled in anger and annoyance.
"But you also gave me a lot to think about." Gohan stated making Magneto curious again. "I'm not part of the Xmen and I don't plan on joining. I like the people there, but that is not my battle to fight. I don't have the mutant gene like you and other mutants. Its not my place to meddle in the affairs of mutants. The professor is making a good start, but it seems his way of doing things isn't working out that well either. In my opinion the humans who want to live with humans have their right and the mutants who want to live with mutants have their rights. Mutants and humans who want to co exist have their own rights as well. Their is no wrong side its only the way everyone goes about it is wrong. I hope that made sense."
Magneto sighed. "It made some sense. You're an interesting person if I do say so myself. You say you don't want to meddle in my affairs, so does that mean I won't have to worry about you thwarting my plans."
Gohan put his hand to his chin in though. "I can't ignore something dangerous that puts the lives of others at stake. I'll let the Xmen deal with you, but if something happens in front of me I'll have no choice, but to deal with it personally."
Magneto chuckled. "I like you kid. You would make a great addition to our brother hood."
Gohan grinned as he put two fingers to his forehead in a salute. "It was nice chatting with you." Gohan then moved faster then Magneto could see and made his exit.
Gohan was flying high in the sky. 'I don't think he would've let me leave willingly. I see why the Xmen have so much trouble with him.' He thought to himself. He sighed thinking of his predicament. 'Maybe its best if I leave the school. I feel bad staying there for free knowing I'm not going to join the Xmen. I guess I can find a forest to stay in or something.'
Gohan landed at Xaviers and walked in the front door. He ignored everyone in the living room and went straight to Xaviers office. "Professor we need to talk."
"Whatever about Gohan?" Professor responded
Gohan took a deep breath and gave a serious look. "I had a talk with Magneto and he helped me see some things clearly."
Xaviers face twisted into fear. "Oh no. Don't tell me-
Gohan waved his hands defensively. "No I'm not joining his side."
Xavier gave a sigh of relief. "So what did he help you see?"
"I have no intention of joining the Xmen. I thank you for your humble offer, but I must decline. This isn't my world. I don't know how things work here. It would be wrong for me interfere with the balance of this world."
Xavier nodded. "I understand Gohan. Thank you for considering my request."
"I'm also going to leave here first thing in the morning. I know you said I could stay even if I decided against joining you, but I can't do that. I would feel like a freeloader if I just used you for a place to stay."
"Gohan my boy you there is no need to feel that way. You have no where to stay, and you don't know many people in this world. Please reconsidered this."
Gohan smiled. "Thank you for your concern professor. It really warms my heart, but I've made up my mind."
Xavier sighed. "Do you have someplace else to stay already?"
Gohan looked away and scratched his chin with his finger. "Not really. I was going to figure something out. I could stay in a forest or something."
"At least stay here until you have another place to go to. I wouldn't be at ease otherwise."
"Fine. I'll stay until I can find somewhere suitable."
-Dbz world-
Everyone was on the look out ready to wish Gohan back.
"Well what are we waiting for? Lets wish the brat back already!" Vegeta said as he tapped his foot.
"For once I'm in agreement with Vegeta. Lets someone Shenron already." Piccolo responded.
Dende walked up to the seven glowing orbs. Shenron! We summon you! Arise and grant us our wish!"
The sky turned dark and lightning crackled across the sky. Shenron rose from the dragon balls and looked down on those who summoned him. "For summoning me I will grant you any 2 wishes that are within your power. What is your wish?"
Piccolo stepped up. "Son Gohan exploded in power not too long ago. He was strong enough to tear holes in our universe. He ended up falling into one of the holes and we haven't seen him or sensed his energy since. Can you send him back to us?"
Shenrons eyes glowed red. A few minutes went by without anything happening. "This wish is beyond my power, but there is something I can do. There are a few small tears in the dimension that aren't closed yet due to Gohans strength. I can expand one of those holes enough for one of you to go through, but you would have to find Gohan and bring him to the hole when I reopen it again."
Piccolo rubbed his chin in thought. "So we wish someone to the world Gohan is in. You can expand a hole for us, but you can't control where the hole will be. What do you mean by reopening the hole again?"
"After one of you go through the hole one of your wishes will be done. I can't stay here and wait for you to find him. I don't know how long that will take, so I will return to my slumber. You will have six months until you can summon me again, so use your time wisely.
Piccolo nodded. "Okay I'll be the one to go."
"Who says you get to call all of the shots? Maybe I want to go." Vegeta said.
Trunks raised his hand. "Ooh can I go?"
"No!" Bulma, Vegeta, and Piccolo yelled causing him to pout.
He crossed his arms. "That's not fair! I wish I could go."
"Your wish will be granted!" Shenrons voice boomed out.
"NO!" Bulma yelled out, but it was to late. Trunks was glowing gold from the magic of Shenron. Vegeta made a dash for his son, but he disappeared in front of every ones eyes.
Vegeta punched the tiles of the lookout in frustration while Bulma fainted.
"Your wish has been granted. Summon me six months from today and I will reopen the hole. Until then farewell!" Shenron said as he disappeared.
-Marvel Universe-
Agent Coulsen swung Furys door. "Sir another portal has been opened! Its the same exact signal we got when that kid fell through!"
"Did someone come through the portal?"
"Not that we know of sir. The portal closed as fast as it opened. Iron man is close to the coordinates of the hole. Should we inform him about it and have him take a look?"
Fury sighed. "I would like to keep this under wraps and not involve him, but something tells me he'll get involved anyway. Give him as few details as you can."
Coulsen nodded. "Yes sir.
-With Trunks-
Trunks fell out of a hole and hit the ground with a thud. The golden glow around him started to fade as Shenrons magic left him. 'Hmm? Where am I? I remember Shenron saying my wish was granted but what was my wish?' He racked his brain until the phrase 'I wish I could go.' popped into his head.
Trunks sheepishly scratched his head. "I guess I goofed up the wish." His face lit up with excitement. "Gohan should be here! I have to go find him." Trunks was about to fly off until he remembered he was suppose to bring Gohan to the spot he was at now. 'The portal will open here so I have to remember how to get back here. Oh I know!'
He took a case out of his pocket. "Good thing mom makes me carry this around." He opened the case and took out a capsule. He threw it down and out popped a capsule house. 'I should be able to see this from the sky, so now and I can go find Gohan.'
He flew up and tried to sense him, but came up with nothing. 'He must be masking his ki. How do I find him now.' Trunks started flying in a random direction while lost in his thoughts. He didn't even see someone in a suit of armor coming his way.
Iron man flew right by Trunks, but did a double take when he saw a kid flying. He flew over to him and floated in front of him. Trunks was still lost in his thoughts and was flying with his head down. He bumped into Iron man and grabbed his head.
"Owww. What the heck did I hit?" He looked up while grabbing his head in pain and saw a man with armor floating in front of him. "Whoa! This is so cool! Is that a metal suit!"
Iron man put a finger to his chin in thought. "Japanese huh? Its been a while since I spoke that language"
Trunks tilted his head to the side. "What are you saying? You know what it doesn't matter. I need to find Gohan, so I'll be going now. It was nice meeting you!"
Trunks started flying off. Iron man flew behind him and started following him. After about a minute Trunks stopped and turned his head.
"Whats your deal?!" Trunks yelled in annoyance. "Stop following me!"
Iron man. "Hi i'm Iron man. Whats your name?"
Trunks crossed his arms. "My name is Trunks. Why are you following me?"
"Well I find it weird that you are able to fly."
"But you're flying." Trunks said with a deadpan expression.
"I realize that, but that's only because of my suit. People that can fly of their own power are usually mutants had their genetics altered."
"Well I am no mutant and I didn't have my genetics altered."
"How are you able to fly under your own power then?"
Trunks rolled his eyes. "I don't know I just can. Something to do with energy. I really have to be on my way now. I'm searching for someone."
"Well I can help you with your search."
"No thanks. I'm fine doing this alone." Trunks responded with agitation laced in his voice.
Iron man hovered closer to Trunks and put a hand on his shoulder. "Listen kid I was told a portal opened up around here and you're the only one here. I find that oddly suspicious. I have orders to bring in anyone I encounter near this area. I swear we won't hurt you we just want answers."
Trunks face grew pale. "Umm sure, but first whats that!" He said as he pointed his finger.
Iron man turned his head to see what Trunks was pointing at."I don't see any-" He turned his head back to Trunks to see him flying off with a burst of speed. "I can't believe I fell for that." He started flying off hoping to catch him."
'Gohan please help me!' Trunks thought as he raised his power level to fly faster.
-With Gohan-
"No I swear its all true!" Gohan said with a chuckle.
Kitty had a hand over her mouth trying to stifle her giggles. "He really dyed your hair pink?"
Gohan laughed. "Yeah. He's a mischievous little kid. I kinda miss the little twerp."
"Well I'm sure he misses you. You were like brothers right?"
Gohan nodded with a smile. "Yeah I felt bad for basically missing the first three years of his life."
Kitty cocked her head to the side. "You missed three years of his life? How come?"
"I told you about my family right." Kitty nodded causing Gohan to continue. "Well after my mom was killed I kind of went off the deep end. I shut myself off from my friends. I did some things I'm not proud of."
Kitty put her hand on top of his. "Did you ever...you know."
Gohan looked her in the eyes and she could see the sadness and pain. "I..." His faced morphed from sadness to surprise. When he sensed a familiar power level. "Is that really..."
Gohan jumped off the couch as a smile spread across his face. "Trunks? He's here too!" His face then dropped into a serious expression. "And I can feel the fear and distress in his energy."
"Whats going on Gohan?" a confused Kitty asked.
"I gotta go Kitty." Gohan ran outside.
"Gohan wait!" Kitty yelled as she tried to follow him, but as soon as he stepped outside he blasted off into the sky.
"Why did he blast off like that? Whats the rush?" Kitty looked to her right to see Wolverine working on his motorcycle. "I don't know whats going on. We were talking until he said something about feeling fear in someones energy. He had an intense look on his face and said he had to go."
Wolverine looked up to the sky. "It seems like someone he knows is in trouble. I wouldn't worry about it too much."
"Logan where is Gohan. I have important news for him!" Professor Xavier said as he wheeled outside.
"He just took off. Whats up?" Logan responded.
The professor sighed. "I was just contacted by Fury. Apparently another hole opened up and he wants to know if Gohan knows anything."
Wolverines eyes widened. "He told Kitty he could sense fear in someones energy. So if I had to put two and two together I would say someone from Gohans world came to find him. The portal being opened alerted Fury and knowing him he sent someone to investigate which means-"
"He sent an Avenger and whoever it is that came here is intimidated, but which of Gohans friends crossed over here?" Xavier finished. He turned to Kitty who was trying to understand what was going on. "Did he say any names or anything?"
"Well I did hear him say Trunks." Kitty said after thinking a little.
Wolverines face turned serious. "This isn't good. If the kid is scared then Gohan will go berserk. This whole misunderstanding will turn into something worse. We have to do something!"
"I'll call Fury and let him know the situation. I'll try to get the coordinates from him. You get the others and get ready. "
Wolverine nodded. As he was walking Kitty grabbed his arm. "I'm going with you."
"Then hurry and get your team ready! Meet us at the ship." Wolverine said as Kitty nodded.
-With Trunks-
Trunks was flying fast trying to be rid of Iron man. He looked back and saw that he finally lost him. As soon as he turned his head forward again he was grabbed. Trunks squirmed trying to get free. "Let me go!" Trunks broke out of his grip and punched Iron man backwards.
He jumped down into the trees to escape him on foot instead. He started running through the forest until he was grabbed by the back of his shirt. Trunks turned his head to see a man with long hair and a giant hammer in his hand.
Trunks jumped out of his grip and threw a punch at him. His fist was caught as the man looked down on him.
"You might be strong enough to knock away my friend, but you may find it difficult to do the same to me."
"Lets bet on that shall we?" Thor turned his head and immediately got punched in the face sending him flying across the forest.
Trunks looked up as tears pricked at the back of his eyes. "Gohan! You're really here."
Gohan smiled down at him. "I missed you little buddy. Now get somewhere safe I'll handle this guy."
Trunks nodded and ran off into the woods to hide but stayed close enough so he could see the action.
Thor walked slowly back over to Gohan. "That wasn't wise attacking me like that. Do you know who I am?"
Gohan smirked as he got into a stance. "I sure do. You're dead!"
