Oran Taurus loved flying. He often watched airships as they streaked through the sky dreamed one day of piloting one.

Winter looked down at her son as they walked down the crowded Atlas streets. The boy had his head turned to the clouds again watching a bullhead float by. The eleven year old had spiky white hair and red eyes, two bull ears stuck out the side. He wore a white t-shirt and blue jeans with blue sneakers. His hands were shoved in his pockets.

She still remembered the brief fling she had with his father. When she found out she was pregnant Adam refused to acknowledge the child as his own saying he was 'tainted' with human blood. He left soon after leaving Winter alone. When Oran was born, Winter decided to give him the last name Taurus so he would at least have a small part of his father with him and give him a clue if he ever wanted to find him.

They were heading to a clothing store downtown to buy some new school clothes. It was chilly for summer but that didn't seem to faze Oran as he continued to stare up at the sky.

The former specialist sighed, placing a hand on his shoulder "Come on, you're going to trip" She said sternly.

Oran jolted out of his daze and looked forward as they arrived at the shop. As his mother started shuffling through a clothes rack, he wandered bored to the shoes section and sat down on one of the benches.

There he spotted a father and son standing at the cash register. Oran had never met his father but he often wondered what he was like. Whenever he asked his mother about him she always responded with vagueness. He leaned down and placed his chin in his hands until he felt a light slap on his shoulder. He looked up to see his mother standing above him

"Don't slouch" Winter ordered.

Rolling his eyesOran got up, stuffing his hands in his pockets again. He wandered around the store looking at the racks until something caught his eye. An aviator jacket was hanging near the front. He checked the tag, it was his size.

"Oran, time to go"

He looked over at his mother who was holding an armful of clothes. He looked longingly at the jacket before sighing, she'd probably say no anyways. He dropped the tag and joined his mother at the register.

Winter looked down at her son as she placed the clothes on the counter. He seemed to be looking at a jacket hanging beside them.

Shaking her head, she placed a hand on his shoulder "Oran, could you wait outside for me?" She asked softly.

The boy nodded. As soon as he left Winter grabbed the jacket and placed it on the counter.

On the ride home, Oran watched the clouds from outside the window of his mother's airship. He felt so free in the air, miles away from any expectations, rules or troubles.

Winter was sitting across from him holding a white bag. As she watched her son, the airship started to shake slightly and she grabbed onto her seat to steady herself. Oran seemed unaffected as he continued to stare at the sky.

Suddenly an idea popped into the specialists head. Leaving the bag, she went to the cockpit where her pilot was trying to steady the airship.

"Sorry for the turbulence, ma'am" He said "I'll have her right in a second"

"Actually, Percy" Winter said tentatively "I was wondering if I could take over for a second, I have an idea"

The pilot smiled "Of course, ma'am" He stepped back and Winter took his place, taking hold of the controls.

Winter had some flight experience from her time at the academy but she rarely used it. After making sure the ship was stable she called over her shoulder "Oran, can you come here for a second?" She smiled at the bull faunus as he looked around confused. Swiveling the chair out, she held out a hand to her son "Wanna fly? She asked.

Oran broke into a grin and nodded "Yeah!"

Winter chuckled "Sit here" She instructed, gesturing towards her lap. He jumped up and Winter turned the chair back.

Oran placed his hands over his mothers and stared out the window. He had often jumped into the pilot seat of the parked airship when he little and pretended to drive it but nothing like this.

"Okay, just keep it steady" Winter said.

The world seemed a million miles away as his hands gripped the yoke between his mother's fingers, copying her movements. The sky was crystal blue and the clouds were so close it almost felt like he could touch them. A thrill went through him as he watched the world fly by him without a care. He turned to Percy who was leaning against the wall, watching them.

The man nodded, smiling through his helmet "You're doing good, son" He said.

He turned back but couldn't see his mother's infectious smile "Alright I need to bring it down now, okay?" Winter said.

Oran let go, placing his hands on his lap as his mother took over. He couldn't keep his body from shaking in excitement.

When they landed Oran jumped out with a hoot, he raised his eyes to the skies and shouted at the top of his lungs "That was amazing!" His voice echoed off the open platform.

Winter grinned, holding the bag and her and Percy exited "It's not over yet" She announced, passing him the bag.

Oran grabbed it and reached inside, pausing as he pulled out the aviator jacket from the store "Alright!" He yelled "Thanks, Mom!"

Dropping the bag he immediately slipped it on, it fit perfectly. He turned to Percy "How do I look?" He asked excitedly.

"You look like a real pilot" The man answered.

Oran turned to his mother "Well?"

Winter knelt down, placing a hand on her son's shoulder "You look very grown up" She replied softly.

Happy Birthday, Oran"
