"I guess there won't be a wedding," Melina sighed. She figured that Kelly will find out about Alex being in contact with Naomi but not this soon. The wedding was two days away. Melina knew it was impossible for the bride and groom to reconcile in such a short time.

"Yes it will. Don't worry. Kelly and Alex will work out their problems. I have faith that they will." Alberto rubbed Melina's hand. They were sitting in the hotel's restaurant having brunch.

Melina smiled at Alberto. "I hope so. Kelly put her dreams of having her own modeling agency on hold to start a family with him. I can't believe this is happening."

Not wanting to make matters more stressful, Alberto wanted to change the subject but couldn't resist asking Melina about her connection to Wade and Kofi that she mentioned the night before.

"Last night you told me you knew Wade. How is that?" Alberto asked.

"Well, I was sent to help work on the Ghana trip since the chapter in Michigan was having trouble. When my time was up, I went back to California. I was replaced by Wade who I had to fill in on what was finish and what needed work. We went to dinner and that was how he met Kelly. She had visited me a few times while I was there."

"What about Kofi?"

"Kofi was one of the doctors who was going to Ghana. I didn't get to know him like Wade. We met a couple times and had brief conversations. That was it." Melina said.

"And here we all are in New York. Talk about coincidence."

"Tell me about it." Melina sighed.

The two finished their meal quietly. Melina found herself immersed in her thoughts. She kept trying to figure out how Kelly knew about Alex having contact with Naomi before knowing of Wade's spotting of Alex and if she and Alberto never said anything.

I know Kelly has had her suspicious but what caused them? They couldn't have came solely from what Wade told her. Someone or something must have tipped her off. I have to dig a bit deeper into this. Nothing makes sense.

Suddenly, Melina thought of something. Something that could possibly help her better understand the situation. She did not want to ask but it was worth a try.

"Did you know Alex was seeing Naomi?" Melina asked.

Taken aback by her sudden outburst, Alberto spilled his coffee.

"Shit!" Alberto quickly grabbed a few napkins and began cleaning the mess. Melina reached from across the table to stop him.

"Answer the question Alberto. Did you or did you not know about any of this?" Melina did not let Alberto's hand go. Her eyes were fixed on Alberto's which were blinking rapidly. It was a sign that he knew something.

Alberto gently took Melina's hand off his as she slowly sat back down in her seat. He cleaned up the rest of the coffee. He cleared his throat and spoke.

"Yes, I knew. I have known for a while." Alberto confessed.

Melina was shocked. All she could do was listen to what Alberto had to say.

He continued, "With Kelly being busy with photo shoots and Kofi living in Michigan, it was easy for Alex and Naomi to see each other. I tried talking Alex out of it but he didn't want to listen to anything I had to say. He said something about getting closure in order to move on since their relationship did not end on good terms. I thought he was finding an excuse not to get married. So I only knew of one way to stop him . . . And that was telling Kelly."

"What was her reaction when you told her?" Melina wanted to know.

Alberto sighed, " She didn't believe me. She accused me of being jealous of Alex and that I should mind my business, hence why she set us up. Instead of trying to convince her, I wanted to show her real evidence."

"Alex's phone was the evidence you needed." Melina said. She thought back to last night when Alberto was adamant on keeping Alex's phone. She should have known then something was going on.

"Right. I purposely gave Kelly Alex's phone last night. I figured that since the thought was already planted in her head, she would follow through on it."

"Why did you tell her? Alex is your best friend. Shouldn't you be protecting him than snitching on him? I mean isn't that part of the 'guy code'?" Melina wondered.

"Guy code?" Alberto laughed. "Didn't know there was such a thing."

Melina frowned at Alberto mocking her. "I guess loyalty isn't your strong suit."

"Neither is Alex, Alberto growled as Melina jumped back. Alberto composed himself. "Look Melina, I love Alex. He is like a brother to me. I didn't want him to ruin the only good thing he had going in his life."

Melina was not convinced. By Alberto's body movement, she could tell that there was more to the story than what he was telling.

"And now there may not be a wedding. Great job Alberto," Melina started a slow clap. "This is such bullshit. What is the real reason you intervened?"

"I think we should go check on Alex. Have you heard from Kelly yet?" Alberto tried changing the subject but Melina would not allow it.

"No games Alberto. Tell me the truth. Are you actually jealous of Alex? Are you in love with Kelly? Because either way, you don't seem to want Alex to be happy."

"No I am not jealous of Alex and I'm definitely not in love with Kelly." Alberto scoffed and added a look of disgust.

"If not that, then what is it? Why are you even getting yourself involved if it's none of your business?"

Alberto hesitated to answer. He started to shift uncomfortably in his seat. He then closed his eyes tight.

"I had an affair with Naomi while they were together," Alberto paused. " I was the reason she broke up with Alex. We were going to be together but then I felt guilty and realized that I didn't love Naomi. I ended things soon after. When Alex told me that he was speaking to Naomi again, I got scared. I did everything I could to keep them apart. I was afraid that she would tell him about us. I'm such a terrible friend. If Alex found out, he would never forgive me. "

"Well . . . That explains a lot. I'm going to go check on Alex."

Melina left the table. Alberto didn't try to go after her. Instead he ordered for more coffee and a newspaper. While reading, he heard someone pulling out the chair Melina once occupied.

"We need to talk." A voice said.

Alberto took one last look at the newspaper before he folded it up and placed it to the side.

"The floor is yours. Speak."
