Dean walked inside first with Kate right behind him. They second she walked into the kitchen the smell of garlic filled her senses.
"Hope you like spaghetti and garlic bread." Bobby said as he pulled the bread out of the oven. The kitchen table was set with four places and there was a large bowl of pasta in the middle.
"Sounds good!" Kate said realizing how hungry she was.
"I can't remember the last time I had a home cooked meal." Dean said sitting down next to Kate on her right.
"I can't remember the last time I had garlic bread." Sam said with a smile.
"I had some garlic left so I wanted to use it up." Bobby said setting down the bread as he took his seat across from Kate.
"Don't tell me you used it on some vampires." Kate joked as she reached for her drink. No one said anything and Kate looked around at each of them. "Oh my god you did?" She yelled.
"No I didn't." Bobby said as he severed himself a large serving of pasta.
"For a second there I thought vampires were real." Kate laughed again, thinking it was funny.
"They are, but garlic doesn't bother them." Dean said calmly, as Sam and Bobby stopped eating and looked up at Kate. She didn't say anything, just looked at Dean hoping that he would tell her he was joking. "What?" He said as he looked up from his plate with everyone now watching him. "She would've find out eventually. Why hide it from her?" He said.
"Maybe easing her into everything would be a better idea." Sam said to his brother.
"I'm not going to sugar coat it." Dean said back to his brother.
"I never said that, but take it slow." Sam responded. "She just found out about this stuff the other day."
"Why don't you idjets shut it." Bobby said to them. They stopped with their back and forth looking towards Bobby before looking over to Kate. She was shocked by it all and sat there looking at her plate of food.
"He didn't mean to freak you out." Sam said to her.
"Freak out?" Kate said, "I don't think I could freak out anymore than I already have." She gave a smile before she picked up her fork. "Next you'll be telling me that werewolves and zombies are real." She said trying to make it sound like she wasn't freaked out by any of this. When no ones said anything again Kate dropped her fork and looked up at the three sets of eyes that were looking at her. Without saying anything Kate stood up knocking her chair over as she made her way back out of the house.
The cool night air felt good on her face and arms as she stood there looking out at the rows and rows of vehicles.
"Sometimes those boys just don't know when to keep their mouths shut." Bobby said as he came up next to her. "Knowing what's out there ain't easy. Hell, we still find things that are out there that surprise us. But somewhere along the way you get used to it. You learn how to kill them and protect yourself. That's why they brought you here."
"So I could kill these things?" Kate asked a little worried.
"To protect you." Bobby said looking at Kate
"Me? They don't even know me?" She said sitting down on the hood of a Pontiac grand am.
"Why don't you ask them?" Bobby said looking up towards his house, giving Kate a nudge. She too looked up and saw Dean standing in the doorway watching them talk. "Dean keeps things to himself. He had a reason for wanting you here. Give him time. He will tell you why." Bobby and Kate sat in silence for a while before she spoke up.
"I want to know everything."
"There is a lot of crazy stuff out there Kate."
"I don't care. A ghost killed my uncle and tried to kill me. I need to know what else there is."
Bobby thought about it for a minute or two before he said anything.
"The call I got earlier was from another hunter, who's in way over his head. I was hoping the boys would be able to go take over for him. Why don't you stay here with me and help me with researching. I will teach you what you want to know." Bobby said as he let out a breathe. He didn't want an innocent young woman getting pulled into this life, but he would feel better about it all if she had someone there watching out for her.
"I want to learn everything. What is out there, how to kill them and how to protect other people." She said
"First things first. You study everything I tell you and give you to read. After that I will think about teaching you how to kill."
Kate shook her head yes and gave him a smile.
"Lets go see if they left us any food." Bobby said heading back to the house. Kate stood up and followed him.
Dean went and sat back down at the table when he saw they heading back.
"Everything ok?" He asked them as they came inside.
"Yup." Bobby said going to his chair. Dean looked over at Kate for confirmation.
"Great." She said sitting back down and eating.
"Do you boys mind heading out and finishing up that job you were helping me research?" Bobby asked.
"I thought your friend was working that case?" Sam asked.
"He is, but he's not as good as you two. How about taking over for him?"
"You sure about this Bobby?" Dean asked, "I mean we just got here and Kate can't come with on this hunt." Dean said without looking at her.
"Kate can stay with me. It shouldn't take you boys long. Beside you already figured out what it is and how to kill it."
"We'll head out tomorrow after we get some sleep." Dean said looking over to his brother.
"Thanks boys." Bobby knew that the brothers would not be happy to find out that he was going to help Kate learn about the supernatural. He figured if he could send them out on hunts he would have the time to teach her what she needed to know. Without them finding out about it.
