One Last Party – Chapter 9
Pinkie Pie looked at the balloon-shaped clock on the wall to check the time. It was a quarter until 2 o'clock, which gave her 15 minutes to finish up. The Cakes had already left for Canterlot, taking their children with them. Sugar Sweets would be at Sugarcube Corner at 3:00. Pinkie figured she could watch the shop until then.
Besides, this was a party for Pinkie and her friends. Sugar Sweets didn't need to get in on the partying. It would be too much fun for such a friendly, kind mare, and Pinkie Pie didn't want to stress the poor girl out.
The pink earth pony's straight hair dragged on the floor as she made the finishing touches. The banner hung above her head, announcing that she would be waiting upstairs. Everything looked fine, but a horrible ache filled into the hole in Pinkie's chest. Why did this party feel so familiar...? What did it remind her of...?
Of course, Pinkie Pie realized, her eyes turning into watery pools. It was just like Rainbow Dash's birthday party. The day she had found her soul-mate, and the day she had begun to lose her. Except, she realized, it would be happier. Pinkie would get to be with Rainbow Dash forever. Finally, she wouldn't have to be missing her so badly.
Part of Pinkie wanted to go now. It hurt so, so badly. She could feel her life force seeping out through every breath she took and every thought that pranced through her head. The only thing that made the pain go away was sleep and the wounds. But she couldn't sleep her grief away forever, and how long would it be before someone noticed?
Still, it would be impolite to leave before her guests got to Sugarcube Corner. She wouldn't be there to greet them in person, but at least she would be able to say goodbye. Finally, Pinkie Pie could end. She just couldn't live without the one person she cared for most.
Please understand, Pinkie Pie thought, as she grabbed a quill covered in ink with her mouth. A piece of parchment was laid out on the counter and she began to write, trying to avoid soaking the paper with tear drops.
Hello! Thank you for coming to my party! It wouldn't be the same without all of my friends.
Pinkie Pie scribbled it out in frustration. What was the point in dodging it anymore? This party wouldn't be filled with happiness and laughter. It would be a celebration of death. She couldn't bear the thought of seeming insensitive with her last thoughts on paper. Pinkie collected her thoughts, very carefully, and decided to keep it short and sweet.
I'm sorry. Please understand. I love and care about all of you, but I can't function without Rainbow Dash. I was going to spend the rest of my life with her, and that got taken away. I miss her so much. But I can be with her again. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, please forgive me for leaving. I'm going to be with Dashie again. You girls keep laughing, and SMILE, for me.
Your friend,
Pinkie Pie
She carefully picked up the note in her mouth once the ink dried and took one last look at the downstairs of the shop. Slowly, she trudged up the stairs and into her room, where the party would take place. Pinkie Pie set the note on the floor next to her and put her head in her hooves.
"Please keep smiling... for me..." Pinkie Pie whispered through tears that fell like rain. She couldn't take it anymore. She wanted to be with Dashie so badly. She just couldn't wait.
The pink pony picked up a cake knife she had used many times before and held it to her arm. If she just cut a vital vein, she would bleed to death. Maybe it would be painful, but Rainbow Dash would be waiting for her on the other side with a smile.
The knife settled over the vein. All she needed to do was cut this arm, then the next. It would be so quick and easy.
She brought the knife up, a firm grip on the handle despite it being in her mouth.
Pinkie Pie brought it down unto her right and winced at the pain.
She brought it down on the left side too, then dropped the knife and watched the blood flow.
Dashie, I love you, Pinkie Pie thought as her eyes began to settle shut.
