Pokemon: Emerald, Ruby, and Sapphire

Chapter 9: The Contest and Roses

Well, I haven't update like...in a million years. Hope you enjoy this chapter! (Not matter how short it is...)

"TORCHIC, USE EMBER ON THAT JERK!"

Well, that is would I would LIKE to say. Instead, I plaster a shaky smile to my face.

"Nice to see you again, Drew," I say.

"Heh, are you seriously thinking of entering this contest?" he says with a smirk. I grin, while screaming insults in my head.

"Of course! I love contests, and I want to perform!" Drew rolls his eyes.

"Well, I hope you at least pass the first round, it would be quite sorry if you didn't." I clench my fists. This is way to hard.

"Stop it!" I say with a frown, and point at him.

"I will prove to you that I can succeed in this contest!" I declare. He raises his eyebrows.

"Well, good luck with that," he says, and tosses me a rose as he walks away. It lands in my hands, and I stare at it.

"I WILL WIN!" I call after him. He waves and disappears. I growl, and blow out a breath. Ruby puts his hands on his hips.

"Wow, he seems like..."

"A snob?" I say, finishing his sentence. Ruby nods.

"Yeah, I hope you beat him in the contest." I nod, and glare after the way Drew left.

"I certainly hope I do..."

I stuff plate after plate of spaghetti into my mouth, and chug down on some soda.

"Agh, he makes me so MAD!" I growl.

After losing Ruby in a crowd on purpose, I changed back into my Sapphire clothes.

This way I can act however I want towards anyone without worrying about my "image".

I scarf down a plate a cookies and small child was taking to their own seat, and belch loudly. The child starts sobbing, but I ignore him, and head with my pokemon to train.

I need to win the contest and prove to Drew that I am not that little girl I used to be.

"Mudkip and Torchic!" I call, and throw out both their pokeballs. "Practice your routine, and I'm gonna do some pushups."

I drop to the ground as I watch my pokemon, and correct them in their act until they perfect it. We hide whenever Drew or Ruby come near, and I feel like we've gotten everything perfect by the time the sun sets. I wipe perspiration from my body with a towel, and grin at my pokemon.

"Alright, you guys ready for the contest?" I ask. They all nod.

"Kip kip!"

"Tor tor!" I punch my fist into the air.

"LET'S WIN!" I cheer.

I receive my participant number the day of the contest, and head backstage. I hold my pokeballs in my hands, and wait. Drew enters, and I keep myself from rolling my eyes.

"Are you ready?" he asks. "Or too nervous to move?" I look up at him, and realize he's not making fun of me, just asking the question in general.

"I'm fine," I tell him. He nods.

"I see," he says. "So you're ready to lose?" I open my mouth to object, but he sticks a rose in my face, and I cough on the scent. He places the rose behind my ear, and walks away. I stare after him wordlessly.

What...?

I shake my head.

AGH! I can't think about Drew's weird quirks, I need to worry about winning! I look at the large screen in the waiting room, and see the announcer.

"Alright everyone!" she calls. "This is the Rustburo contest, where everyone is allowed to use two pokemon for their performance! Is everyone excited?" The whole crowd cheers, and echoes fill the stadium.

"Sounds like it!" she says. "Then let's get started. I'll introduce our judges!"

She points to each in turn, and they all respond with some sort of nice compliment. I ignore all but Nurse Joy's.

"I'm sure everyone here today will be able to show off their pokemon to the best of their ability no matter what others have told them, enjoy yourself coordinators!"

"Number one!" a voice calls. I stand up.

This is it...I'm finally going to perform. I head out onto the stage, and place myself on the center, and look around at everyone.

My heart beats erratically, but it's not fear, it's excitement. The crowd waits for me to move, and I reach up to my bandana, and whip it off.

"Go Mudkip and Torchic!" I call, as my pokeballs fly from my head, and into the air. They explode from their pokeballs, shooting Ember and Water Gun at each other in the process and sending out sparkles towards the audience.

"Mud shot!" I call. Mudkip jumps up, and shoots mud into the air. "Torchic, go!" It leaps into the air, and uses Scratch to slice the mad balls into slivers that land on the ground in the shape of a Torchic face.

"Now use Ember!" I call. The Ember sets the mud on fire, and I clench my fists happily.

"Now land in the blaze and use Water gun in a spiral!" They do so, and the fire turns into a cloud of steam.

"Now run in circles!" I shout. They do, and the steam swirls into nonexistance. They both stand opposite of each other, bow, then turn to the audience, and lower their heads. I nod at the same time they do, and the crowd erupts in cheers.

"Our contest has started off with an explosive fiery display, what will the judges give her score wise?" We all look to the screen.

"A fabulous display of two opposites," the President says. "Wonderful job."

"The power shown in your demonstration was astounding," says the Pokemon Fanclub President. "Nice work."

"The bond between you and your pokemon was very apparent," Joy says. "I didn't see you tell them half the command, but I could tell you were in perfect sync. Keep up the good work!"

"So let's see those scores!" the announcer says. I watch numbers fly by on the screen, and an 85.9 appears.

"A solid score for her first contest," Nurse Joy comments. I smile, and the three of us bow again.

"Let's have another round of applause for May and her wonderful team, Mudkip and Torchic!" The crowd claps loudly, and we exit the stage. I pass Number Two in the hallway, and I sit back in my spot in the waiting room.

I ignore Drew's stare from across the room, and close my eyes. I refuse to watch Drew for this contest. If I do, I might lose confidence.

Drew is obviously more experienced than I am. Thinking about my battle strategy, I listen to the announcer call out different things to each coordinator that enters the stadium. Then I hear Drew's number. I head to the restroom while he's on stage, and wash my face.

Staring at myself in the mirror, I slap my cheeks. I must do a good job.

"You can do this," I state. "You can beat Drew." I exit the restroom, and walk down the hall towards the waiting room.

I see Drew. We reach the door, and stare at one another intensely for one of the longest moments I've ever been in, then he pulls the handle towards himself, and heads in. I follow, and sit back down on my seat.

"Now, for those who have past the first round, they will appear on the screen...now!"

Yup, I'm gonna leave it hanging there. And it seems May-Sapphire and Drew have some connection in the past? Tell me your thoughts on that.

:D Sorry if Drew is OOC, I haven't watched an episode with him in it in forever, so I can't really place his personality at the moment...I'll fix it later! I promise!
