A/N- The only excuse I have for taking this long to update is that I started a Fire Emblem Roleplay blog on Tumblr and it took all my time and writing ability away. And I'm still active on it so updates will be very sporadic from now on. Sorry for the inconvenience
No More Need to Worry Chapter 9
Blaze POV
Well, that takes a load off my back. You see, by me telling Silver to propose to me it takes away the stress of not knowing when he'll do it. Knowing Silver he'll want to make a big deal about it so I'll se it coming from a mile away. Not that that is a bad thing mind you. Anyway, the next morning Silver was still recovering from his concussion so I went down to the lobby and got him breakfast.
"Thanks Blaze, but I don't think I'll be able to eat all this." He said since I may have gone a bit overboard with it.
"Well just eat what you can and I'll take the rest." I told him and that's what we did. After we were done eating though Silver had a question.
"So what are your plans for the day?" He asked.
"I was planning on just staying here with you." I answered truthfully. "And maybe we could go to the hot spring together if you start feeling better."
"Well, as much as I would enjoy that, I think you should go out and enjoy yourself with everyone else."
"Are you sure Silver?"
"Yeah. I mean my mom can take care of me if I start getting sick again and we could still do the hot springs thing when you get back. I don't want you to miss out on all the fun because of me, especially if we have to set up the dance when we get back."
"Okay then." I said and then I kissed him on the forehead. "I'll see you later."
"Have fun." And with that I grabbed my coat and left our room. I walked over to Sonic and Amy's room since it was next to ours and knocked on the door. Sonic opened the door holding his snowboard.
"Hey Blaze." He said smiling. "You might have caught us at a bad time, we're about to go snowboarding."
"Then it's a good time to ask if I could join you."
"Sure thing, just meet us as the lifts in about 10 minutes." That was perfect since I needed to rent a board since I don't own one. So we all met up at the lifts, but then I remembered something. I don't like heights. I mean it was a bit better since it was one of those enclosed gondolas, but Sonic and Amy still had to practically tie me down so I wouldn't jump out. One thing of note was that I saw Shadow and Maria already skiing on the mountain as we were going up. The only reason I noticed it was that Shadow had fallen which seemed very uncharistic of him. I hope he's okay.
Maria POV
I had everything planned out for how I was going to propose to Shadow. I was going to invite him to go skiing with me and then afterwards we would go back to the lodge and drink some hot chocolate while sharing a blanket. And that's when I would do it. But life isn't perfect and had to throw me a curveball.
"I would love to go skiing with you Maria, but I can't." Shadow told me when I asked.
"Well, then what are you planning on doing today. I could go with you." I suggested trying to adjust my plans on the fly."
"No Maria, I mean I physically can't. I've never learned how to ski, only snowboard."
"Oh, that's all?" I asked slightly relived. "I can teach you if you want."
"Well I don't know. It just seems like a hassle for you." I shook my head at that and grabbed his hand.
"That just sealed it Shadow, you're learning how to ski today whether you like it or not." I told him as I pulled him out of our room. Half an hour later we were riding up the mountain on a gondola.
"I wonder if Blaze is going to be okay riding this thing." Shadow said looking down. He seemed a bit nervous so I sat next to him.
"I'm sure she'll be fine, at least this gondola is closed off. Though I wouldn't mind being on one of those open air ones, just me and you. Wouldn't that be so romantic Shady?" I asked snuggling up to him.
"Yeah, it would be." He answered wistfully as he hugged me back. A few minutes later we were at the top of the mountain ready to begin.
"So, what do I do first?" Shadow asked after he stood up on his skis. His legs are obviously strong from being a track runner so they weren't shaking like most first timers.
"Well the most important thing is to position your skis correctly. When you want to go slow you angle them in like a pizza slice. Then you spread them out parallel like french fries to go faster."
"Hm, sounds easy enough." He said as he pushed off.
"Wait! I didn't tell you how to," I tried to say as he ran straight into a tree, "turn." I shook my head and pushed off myself to go see if he was okay.
"So, in your food analogy, what are trees?" He asked holding his head.
"Well for you I guess it would be meatloaf." I said since he hates eating that.
"Makes sense. Next question, how do I turn?" I chuckled at that and we continued the lesson. Shadow was a very fast learner, not surprising since he's a smart guy studying to be a doctor. Eventually he challenged me to a race because he likes being competitive. I smoked him, but that's not why I'm mentioning it. As I was waiting for him to reach the bottom I reached into my coat pocket to make sure that the ring was still in there. It was and I opened the box to look at it. It was tinted a light green, Shadow's favorite color, and the snow was making the sunlight sparkle off it even more. I was so busy looking at it that I didn't notice a black and red blur coming right at me. "Maria! Watch out!" Shadow yelled but it was too late and we collided. Needless to say I dropped the ring and it fell into the snow.
"Ow!" I said before I realized it. "Wait! Where is it?!" I asked myself getting up quickly and searching for it.
"Um Maria, is this what you're looking for?" Shadow asked sitting up with the ring in his hand. "It was right next to me in the snow."
"Thank you Shadow, I don't know what I'd do if I lost that." I said hugging him.
"I take it this is Silver's and your just holding onto to it for him?" He asked as I pulled back. I started to blush a deep red and could barely think about what to say next.
"Um, well, actually it's mine." I said awkwardly.
"Oh, well it's very nice looking. Why haven't you worn it yet?" He asked not really understanding.
"Because it's for you Shadow." I said giving it to him. It took a second but then realization hit him.
"Maria," He said softly, "are you proposing to me?"
"Um, yes." I said a bit sheepishly. "I wanted to take the burden off of you. You're always so down on yourself and I wanted to show you that I think you're the most amazing person I've ever met. So much so that I reversed gender roles because of it. I'm getting rambbly aren't I?"
"Not as much as I would be in your position." Shadow said to comfort me. "My answer is yes, I would love to get married to you. I love you more than I love myself sometimes and I know I need you in my life for balance. I just hope I can be a good husband to you."
"Oh Shady!" I said happily as I kissed him on the lips. Well, this didn't go as planned, it went much better.
"So Maria, you want to go back to our room and drink some hot chocolate?" Shadow asked after the kiss.
"Sure, but maybe the hot chocolate can wait a bit if you catch my drift."
