A/N sorry for not updating for 200 years but here you go
LIZ'S POV
Today is Thursday, the day our flying lessons with the Slytherins start. The days before today were all normal, Nev lost Trevor but found him again and I had a couple "misunderstandings" with Filch and a teacher, but nothing important.
Neville, Hermione and I got together and went down to breakfast, a method that was becoming habit, and sat down. Nev was terrified of flying although Gran had never let him try it. Hermione was too, though just a bit less. I was actually looking forward to today a bit, but we'll see what happens. This morning all the talk among the first years was flying, and it seemed that almost everyone except us and the muggleborns had flown before.
Hermione spent her time telling us and the entire table facts and tips she read about flying, of which Neville desperately hung on to. She finally stopped when the mail came. In the morning mail came barn owl landing directly in front of Neville and I. Nev reached out and untied the package. Inside was a glass ball filled with white smoke which he happily showed everyone, explaining it was a Remembrall. I looked at the bottom of the package and pulled out a simple red leather strap bracelet with the Longbottom crest engraved on it.
"Whoa," I breathed, simple but amazing. A note explained our gifts and apparently my bracelet could change color if I was feeling very strong emotion, coolest thing ever. Neville said it was actually really common but I love it.
Suddenly the Remembrall was swiped out of Neville's hand by none other than Draco Malfoy with his two goons behind him. I immediatley stood up (and regretted it), apparently Harry and Ron stood up as well. Malfoy sneered at me but before anything else could happen, Professor McGonagall appeared causing Malfoy to give it back and leave.
NEVILLE'S POV
It's now three thirty and Liz is dragging Hermione and I down to the quidditch pitch for the first flying lesson with the other Gryffindors. The Slytherins were already there as well as twenty broomsticks lying neatly in the grass. I feel so sick I thought since it felt like a million rabid butterflies were flapping their great big wings inside my stomach.
Madam Hooch walked out into the field, an intimidating looking woman with short gray hair and piercing yellow eyes.
"Well what are you all waiting for?" she barked. "Everyone stand by a broomstick. Come on, hurry up."
Everyone quickly got into place. Hermione was by Harry, and I was on the end but luckily Liz followed me and was on my left. I'm still so nervous.
"Good everyone. Now stick out your right hand over your broom and yell up."
"Up," I and everyone else said except I was so nervous that my voice shook. Nothing happened to my broom but Harry's went up on his first try and Liz managed to get hers up on the third attempt. Hermione got hers to roll over. I finally got the broom to come up on my 19th try, the last to do it and Hermione had gotten hers up on the twelfth.
Madam Hooch showed everyone how to mount our brooms and said that we needed to kick off the ground and up a few feet into the air on her whistle. Don't mess this up Neville...Just whatever you do don't mess this up...
Madam Hooch began, "Okay now," Don't mess up! I thought to myself, "...one" What if they leave you behind?! "...two-" HEY NEVILLE, DON'T MESS UP! I closed my eyes and kicked up hard, not realizing it was too soon.
"Nev!" said Liz.
"Come back down boy!" shouted Madam Hooch. Oh wow you've done it this time.
"Ah!" I said and I thought I CAN'T GO BACK DOWN, OH MY GOD I'M SO HIGH UP! And so I slipped.
LIZ'S POV
"Neville!" I cried as he fell from probably twenty-five feet in the air.
WHAM-a thud and a horrible crack as he hit the ground lying in a heap face down in the grass.
Madam Hooch checked on Nev and mumbled, "broken wrist." "Its alright boy, come on. Up you get," she said. She told the rest of us to stay where we were and leave the brooms alone or she would have out of Hogwarts before we could say "Quidditch."
Neville stood with tears down his face and clutching his wrist as he hobbled off with Madam Hooch, but there was nothing I could do.
The second they were out of earshot Malfoy broke into laughter. I turned around and glared but he ignored me. "Did you see his face the great lump?" he said in between fits of laughter. The other Slytherins joined him.
"Shut up, Malfoy," said Parvati Patil and I at the same time.
"Ooh sticking up for Longbottom?" said Pansy Parkison to Parvati. "Never thought you'd like fat little crybabies." I glared at Pansy as well, my hands clenching into fists.
"Look!" said Malfoy, snatching something out of the grass. "Its that stupid thing Longbottom's gran sent him."
The Remembrall glittered in the sun as he held it.
I stepped forward, a moment from saying something, when Harry did instead.
"Give that here, Malfoy," he said eerily quietly with his hand out, palm up. Everyone who hadn't been paying attention a moment earlier turned to look.
Malfoy just gave a nasty smile. "I think I'll leave it somewhere for Neville to find – how about – up in a tree?"
"Don't you dare," I said zeroing in on Malfoy and out of the corner of my eye I saw my bracelet change to a deep burning red.
"Give it here!" Harry yelled, but Malfoy had climbed onto his broom and flown up to the topmost branches of an oak tree.
"Why don't you come and get it then?" he taunted.
Harry grabbed his broom and Hermione immediately tried to stop him so he wouldn't get us in trouble, but he ignored her. I went to grab my broom as well and Harry kicked off the ground, a natural born flier.
I mounted my broom and was about to go up when Hermione grabbed onto my broomstick.
"No! You can't go up too!" she yelled.
"Hermione let go!" I shouted but she tackled me to the ground instead, apparently she was stronger than she looked.
I looked up just in time to see Malfoy throw Nev's brand new Rembrall high into the air. Harry instantly took after it, flying the way I imagine a professional would. He made a dive and I watched in awe as he grasped it only a second from the ground before straightening out and toppling onto the ground.
"HARRY POTTER!" McGonagall screeched at exactly that moment. "Never – in all my time at Hogwarts –," but she was speechless with shock. "–how dare you – might have broken your neck –"
"It wasn't his fault Professor –"
"Be quiet, Miss Patil –"
"But Malfoy –"
"That's enough, Mr. Weasley. Potter, follow me, now."
Harry handed me the Rembrall as he passed. Then he and Professor McGonagall walked back into the castle. Only then did Hermione and I realize that we had to straighten out. Malfoy and his cronies were smirking at what had happened and I glared as Hermione and I stood up. Before I could say anything though, Hermione pulled me away to the edge of the pitch.
"Malfoy isn't worth it Liz," she said. I just huffed in agreement.
A/N ending this chapter here because i write too much haha, next chapter should be up in a bit.
