Chapter 7: Part 3
Severus Snape was a busy man and he had absolutely no time for anything other than his beloved potions and the beloved carrier of his soon to be born children. Thus, when he saw a familiar owl delivering a letter, he did not know what to do. They had received an invitation two weeks ago to little Teddy's party and the happy couple were still debating whether they should make an appearance or not. They loved Teddy and Draco really missed his little cousin, but they couldn't go to Harry's house after the way they treated him last time. There were better ways of breaking up with someone and slapping him and throwing him out were definitely not one of them.
However, Severus was not thinking at that time and Harry's comment about their child having only a single parent had really struck a cord. Had he really thought that he, Severus wouldn't be there for their child? That he was just going to turn out like his own father who could never be there for him? No, he was better than that and he planned to show it to both Draco and Harry that he cares for what's his own and if Harry couldn't understand that, he didn't know him as well as Severus thought.
But harry was his too, and Severus was sure he had hurt him that night, both physically and emotionally. He could somewhat understand where he was coming from, but that comment had taken it too far. He could no longer be gentle in breaking up with him. He and Draco had been thinking about it and that seemed like the best option. It would be really awkward having Harry around with the kids, nothing to do with Harry specifically but just another person in the house. What would their child call him? Uncle would be just inappropriate and he wasn't a parent. They didn't want to confuse the child. A child should only have two parents and since in this case it was him and Draco, they were the ones still in a relationship.
Besides, Severus knew how hard it was for the carrier to go through magical pregnancy without the father. His mother was left slightly insane after she had given birth to Severus and she had lost a huge part of her magic without the support of his father. Even though he was just a muggle, if he had just touched her enough and provided lots of love and support, both his mother and himself would have been just fine. However, that selfish man had cared only about himself and his liquor. Severus was not about to repeat his father's mistake. He was going to make sure that Draco or his unborn child did not want for anything. He would provide for everything and he would always be there for them. And he would shower the carrier of his child with so much love that there would be no doubt in anyone's mind that he was the best possible father out there.
Severus did however feel guilty that they had to let Harry go, but Harry would've just been tortured living with them. There was no possible way he could have been that attentive to him while caring for Draco and they had both decided that Draco would need more time and attention. Thus, it just was not right to lead him on. Severus was sure if it was Harry who got pregnant, Draco would have stepped out of the relationship to allow him to focus on Harry. They were going to explain all this to Harry, but that was not how everything panned out.
And now they were debating whether they should go to the party hosted by their ex or not. Severus moved towards Hedwig who had settled on the back of the armchair in his office. He tried to pet her, but the beautiful and tolerant owl bit him. Nevertheless, he untied the scroll and read through the letter.
Harry was personally asking them to come by. He wanted to see them. Though Severus wasn't sure what he wanted to discuss.
He put the letter aside for now - he wanted to discuss it with Draco before he replied on both their behalf - and went back to grading the second year's potions. They were atrocious.

The next day Harry received an affirmative to the original invitation for Teddy's party from his ex-lovers but no reply to his letter. Harry wasn't concerned. As long as they were coming he could speak to them about the pregnancy and their role in it. They did not need to respond to his letter per se.
Harry busied himself in the preparation for the upcoming party. Everything needed to be perfect. Though Harry wasn't the best of planners, it was always Draco's job and at this point Harry really missed his lover's input. Harry was sure if Draco was here right now then, Harry would not have been allowed to make a single decision regarding this party. He would have taken care of the guest list in minutes. Harry was sure he had a spell to write all the invitations with names and everything. He would have had the place decorated to perfection without any help in designing as he, Harry, had to get. Harry could almost hear his, Draco's, voice directing him and all the others he had enlisted in helping him decorate. At times Harry wondered if it would have been easier, not having to worry about such things. Yet he seemed to enjoy doing this for Teddy, and Andromeda was always there with suggestions. Harry saw many similarities between Andromeda and Draco. Draco might have got a lot of his sensibilities from his maternal aunt. Perhaps his mother was the same.
Harry wondered how Severus' presence would have influenced with the party preparations. Harry was sure there wouldn't have been many problems, especially if Draco was the one planning the party and it was for Teddy. No matter how much Severus complained about children, Harry was sure that Teddy had him wrapped around his little finger. Severus could never refuse Teddy anything, just the way he could never refuse Draco anything when he was child and even now. It was as if the sun rose and set at Draco's command.
Sometimes, Harry had to wonder what had gone wrong between them. He had spent almost two blissful years with his lovers. Draco had always been very attentive and even though Severus was sometimes cantankerous and mean, he was usually happy with Harry's inclusion in their threesome. Harry had doubted many things during those two years, but their love for him wasn't one of them. They both showed it in their own way: Draco's affection for him was always obvious and out there, while Severus's was portrayed more through action than words, and Harry was familiar enough with the man to know not to take his words seriously. He would not have that day either, but it was very obvious that they wanted nothing more to do with his. It was however, abrupt.
Over the years, Harry had noticed that each of his lovers was more attentive towards him when the other was not present, but there was never a time where Harry would have preferred to be in the company of only one and not both of his lovers. He always thought that they loved him, but maybe not more than the love they shared for each other. That is why, when the other was present their focus shifted from him. But Harry was happy with that situation too.
It had, however, all gone down hill and he had no idea how or why. There was absolutely no indication that all was not well in their world. That is why he had made so many plans for their future. Set up a house, he was sure his lovers would enjoy. Made sure there was a state of the art Potion lab for both the master and apprentice to work in. But it was all for naught, and Harry had to question what had gone wrong and why they had changed their mind. He could come up with nothing rational and he knew Severus, if not Draco, was a rational man.
What had happened for them to despise him so much? Whatever it was Harry was sure to ask them when he saw them.
Harry jovial mood and positive outlook didn't last very long. As the date grew closer Harry began to doubt his conviction and his happy memories of them. What if all he saw in them and their love for him was just an illusion his mind made up and not the reality? What if there was an underlying hatred in all their action? What if they were pretending to love him, just so they could break him completely when they finally dropped the ball?
Draco by always making sure that he was happy, and Severus by doing little things for him. Severus would always sit and talk to him after a nightmare, make sure to remind him that whatever happened to those during the war was not his fault and that he is good person.
Knew that they were not in love with him, not the way they were in love with each other, but Harry had never not felt like a third wheel, that is, until Draco's pregnancy was announced. It was as if Severus' entire world had narrowed to focus on just Draco's needs.
Nevertheless, Harry was in such high spirits that nothing was going to ruin his mood, not even the thought of seeing his exes again, nor the idea of being dependent on their good will for the survival of his children. This was all about Teddy and that is what Harry chose to focus on.
Harry confirmed all the bookings with caterers, decorators, the party planners, and the bakers. Tried all the food sample and approved all the decorations. When he was done with everything and finally had a chance to sit down and breathe, there were only two days remaining to the party.
Harry had settled in his bedroom after a very arduous day. He had settled on his divan with a hot chocolate to relax and read a bit by the fire. It was still slightly cold and he was feeling the strain of the pregnancy. He hope to assuage both of those things, when Andromeda knocked on his door.
"Hello Harry dear, I thought we could talk for a bit. May I come in?" As the door was already open, Andromeda walked right in upon the nod from Harry, who was still lounging on the divan.
"Is everything alright Meda? You look worried" Harry sat back up straight as Andromeda lightly perched herself on the armchair beside the divan.
"Not quite dear." Harry didn't need to hear her words, her use of 'dear' twice in a minute had already hinted him into the troubles of Andromeda Tonks. She never used those terms of endearments, unless she was worried about his reaction to something. And just her terminology made Harry worried at that moment.
"What is it? Is it Teddy? Is he alright? Is everyone else alright?" Harry fired each question, getting more riled up with each one.
"Yes, yes. Everyone is fine. Teddy is sleeping like a baby and everyone you are concerned with is also fine. I did get a letter that might a be a little upsetting though." She paused, Harry thought she could not figure out a way to say what needed to be said. Harry was patient though, he gave her a few moments to gather herself and sure enough, she did and continued, "It was from Severus. He is very sorry but they will not be able to make it to the party."
"Of course! Did he say why?"
"No that's all the note said."
"Okay." Harry nodded "Thank you for letting me know." There was a calm acceptance in his voice that Andromeda could probably hear. She was expecting him to scream and shout, but he did not do any of those things and that scared her.
"Are you alright Harry?"
"Yes." He nodded, looking in the fire, and then turning towards her with a casual shrug of his shoulder, he repeated "Yes I am fine. Would you mind closing the door behind you."
Andromeda wanted to stay, to make him talk to her. But his dismissal of her was obvious. She got up, fixed her dress and the robes, stared at him in contemplation - debating if she should in fact stay or do as she was told - then turned around and left.
Harry stayed by the fire on the divan for quite a while. His high of the last couple of days since he had received the RSVP from his two ex-lovers and the father of his children was finally coming down. Harry thought about what's next as silent tears rolled down his cheeks and decided that he was done! He was done waiting for them, done pining after them, and he was done being dependent on them. He was going to figure this out on his own and he was going to make sure that he was happy and healthy.

A/N 2: I know I am ending just about all the chapter on a sad note but this was how I had planned the story (6 years ago now _ ) and I think the outline was pretty good and I am going to stick to it. I would love to hear what you all thought about the chapter and where you think the story is going. I will absolutely try my best to update faster, but I can make no promises as to when. All I can say is Stay Tuned! And please leave a review.
Also thank you to my Beta editor AmeliaPond1997 for all the help.
