"Well, you're coming home with me, whether you like it or not."
Part two of two
Caroline had been glancing at her phone for the past hour. No beep. No ring. Nothing that would alert her of a new message or incoming call. In fear that she somehow had missed one of the sounds, she once again checked her phone. Nothing.
She knew she was being silly, he could be working, or in class, or... just not interested. She couldn't help but feel disappointed. 'No' she berated herself, it wasn't like that. She just wanted to thank him for looking out for her at the party the past weekend. Nothing more. It was too soon for anything else. Not after her not so civil ending with Tyler.
A beep almost had her flying through the room, her phone back in her hands less than two seconds later. Tyler. She groaned and deleted the message without opening. She knew what it would be about.
Right about now, he would have just gotten home and noticed that she had come by during his classes to get her stuff back and dump all of his. With a little bit of luck, he would have run into Hayley as well and had discovered the little chat the two girls had had. Caroline was pretty sure that after today, Tyler had no girlfriends left.
Her phone beeped once more and she looked hopeful at her screen. One new text message from 'hot guy with an accent'. She hadn't wanted to change the name he had given himself in her contacts.
It was no trouble at all, love. I'm glad I could help.
Caroline smiled at the text message and quickly send her reply before she could change her mind,Let me thank you in person. Dinner? Tonight?
When and where?
She was waiting for Klaus in front of the small Italian place. She quickly checked how she looked in the window and smiled; the pale pink summer dress was one of her favorites. She knew she looked cute in it, without looking too dressed up. This wasn't a date, after all, she reminded herself. She was just thanking the guy.
Of course, she wouldn't mind if this did turn into a date, she acknowledged, although she didn't want to rush into anything either. Not so soon after Tyler.
"Caroline!" she heard from the other side of the road. She twirled and looked over at Klaus walking towards her, wearing a henley and jeans. She admired the sight, no one should be allowed to look that good in a henley.
"Hi," she called over, instantly feeling flooded with nerves. What was she thinking? She had been wasted when they had met, who knew how many times she had made a fool of herself that night, and now she thought what? That they could just hang out like she hadn't cried in his presence?
"You look great," he told her when he reached her, giving her a peck on her cheek.
"Thank you," she blushed, "For showing up," she added.
"How could I refuse," he offered his arm and together they walked into the restaurant. "So how have you been since, well since Saturday?"
"I- it's been better and worse I guess," Caroline admitted while they were placed at a table. Klaus pulled out the chair for her and she smiled timidly while she sat down.
"How so?" Klaus inquired, looking at her with interest while he sat down opposite of her.
"I- look I really appreciate what you did for me this weekend, but you don't have to listen to my sob stories all night again! We can talk about something else," she offered.
"I want to know about you," Klaus explained, "Your hopes, your dreams, your sorrows... This is a part of your life right now, you don't need to hide from that."
She nodded, he had a point and it was nice to have one person that didn't know Tyler, that she didn't have to filter herself with. "Okay fine! But you only get the highlights. I'm not going to be that girl on a date that only talks about her ex."
"A date, huh?" Klaus said and smirked when she blushed, "I like that."
"Okay," Caroline started, trying to move past her embarrassment. "So there's not much to say. You know he cheated so I broke it off. So today I went to his apartment while I knew he was in class. I got some of my stuff back from his place, while I left what he left at my place... when I left, I ran into girlfriend number two."
"Ouch," Klaus grimaced, "How did that go?"
"About as well as you would expect. She wanted to know what I was doing coming out of her boyfriend's place and then I- I don't know, I remember what you said, so I just told her. I mean she was livid and I'm pretty sure she didn't believe me at first but she needed to know what kind of guy she was dealing with." Caroline sighed, the confrontation had taken a lot from her, but she knew she had done the right thing. She couldn't let another girl be deceived like she had been.
Klaus nodded, "He created his own mess. So how do you feel now?"
"Honestly? Weirdly relieved. It's almost like a part of me knew that something wasn't right for a while already, and now that I know what it is, I can finally relax."
"Well that's good, isn't it?" he asked relieved. He liked Caroline, but he knew he wouldn't have a chance if she was still grieving her past relationship. Anger, relieve? Those were understandable emotions that she could move past.
"It is. I mean I honestly can't believe I wasted so many time with him, but now I can move past it all, move forward instead of looking backwards." Caroline smiled and looked over at the menu. "Okay now that we have dealt with my emotional baggage, how about ordering and getting to know each other?"
"Sounds like a plan," Klaus smiled, "So what are you studying?"
"Journalism. How about you?"
They kept shooting questions back and forth until they fell into easy conversations once again. They got back into a comfortable rhythm and when they had both finished dinner, Klaus once again walked her home.
"So-," she asked and glanced at her front door.
"So," Klaus mimicked with mirth visible in his eyes.
"D-do you want to come in?" Caroline asked visibly nervous.
Klaus smiled at her but shook his head, "Want to? Yes. But I shouldn't."
"O- okay, yeah I'm sorry I didn't mean to assume you would even be interested."
"Oh I'm interested alright," Klaus moved closer to her, cupping her cheek, "But it's too soon. Maybe next time." He pressed his lips against her softly, and Caroline gasped at the contact, opening her mouth to him.
They kissed for several minutes before Caroline separated, "Okay- okay," she said, trying to regain her thoughts. "No coming inside." she allowed before she moved in for another kiss. She tugged at his bottom lip and smirked at his hiss. She knew why he wouldn't come in, but she could at least make him regret the decision a little.
"I- I should really leave," Klaus groaned with regret. He really wanted to continue kissing Caroline, but they were outside and there were limits to what they could do in public.
"Or... you could come in," when he glared at her she laughed. "To talk, I mean, "she corrected, "Or make out some more... Either way, works for me," she added before she kissed him one last time.
"You play evil," Klaus accused her, but she could see the smile on his face. "Okay," he conceded, "To talk."
Caroline nodded seriously, "To talk. I promise you'll leave with your virtue intact." She laughed at her own joke and he glared at her.
"There's a little devil hidden behind that angel's smile," Klaus realized while she grinned at him.
"Mmh, you haven't seen anything yet," she promised and moved towards her front door. She didn't check if Klaus was behind her. The moment she crossed her threshold, he had his arms around her with her back against the wall. He placed a trail of kisses in the hollow of her neck and she moaned at his touch.
"I thought we were going to talk," she teased, while she could feel his fingers inch up the hem of her dress.
"Talking is overrated," Klaus admitted.
"Good," Caroline smirked and pulled at his shirt. They had done enough talking. Right now, she needed to feel.
Hope you liked it!
