9 What is this?

Owen's P.O.V

Owen loves the feeling of freedom and control riding his bike gave him. The adrenaline and the feeling of invincibility at high speeds. It was his favorite pass time around the island. He was sure he knew the island better than anyone else. Always helps him relieve himself from the stress of work. It would be nice right now to just drive off into the sunset but a pair of arms around him reminded him he was still on the clock.

"Where are you staying at?" Owen asked unsure of were to drive to.

"Bungalow 22G, why?" Bree yelled as she shifted behind Owen.

"You're my new neighbor!" Owen recognized. He took off quickly in the direction of her bungalow. Arriving he slowed down and turned his engine off.

"Why are you dropping me off at home? I thought we were having a meeting?" Bree questioned but still got up, off the bike. Owen felt a little empty when her arms left him.

"Well figured you would want to get ready for the meeting. Go shower or something. I was thinking we could meet up back at my place and I can cook up dinner. Got a feeling our first meeting will run long." Owen explained, feeling a little sheepish. That's a new feeling for him.

Bree eyed him questionably. He didn't blame her. This isn't traditionally how boss meets with their employees, but Owen didn't like traditional.

"Okay, fine, I'll collect my notes together. Be easier to discuss my theories with you if I don't have to refer to several of my notebooks at the same time." Bree agreed.

She searched her bag for something when she found it she started for her bungalow. For the first time, Owen noticed she had a nice sway to her hips as she walked. Before she opened the door however she turned and once again eyed Owen suspiciously.

"Go on, I can find my way to your place," she signaled for Owen to leave.

"Sorry," Owen looked down in embarrassment. He revved up his ride and looked up to her again.

"See you in an hour," he called out.

"You better not be planning anything funny. I know I may look small, but sure know how to pack a punch to defend myself," Bree threatened, putting on a tough girl act.

"I don't know you well enough to invite you inside my home anyway, don't worry sweetheart the meeting will be outside my bungalow were anyone can see us," Owen smirked. He likes seeing Bree this way.

"I'm not your sweetheart!" She called out.

He laughed, revving up his ride again ready to take off.

"Wait!" Bree called out. Owen paused looking back to see Bree come running after him.

"Please answer one question then I'll let you go," Bree informed. "Why are you helping me? It's not your responsibility to take care of me."

This question took Owen by surprise. If he was being honest, he didn't know why he was so willing to help her. It is his job to take care of his men and make sure no one gets eaten and that does include Bree, but he certainly does not help his men when it comes to their personal lives. So why was he helping Bree?

Maybe it's because he is already aware of the constant danger she is in. Bree didn't know it, but she is constantly in danger every time she steps foot into that compound. It's not just the velociraptors either. Owen must worry about his men not hurting Bree as well.

"Now that's where your wrong sweetheart," Owen answered.

Not wanting to explain anymore, Owen took off down the dirt path.

Owen has overheard his men on several occasions talking about Bree when she passes by them. Many inappropriate things about her body and how they will get her. Unbeknown to Bree or the men, Owen and Barry have teamed up to protect Bree and intervened the plans his men have made to 'seduce' Bree.

Owen's knuckles whitened as he clutched his handlebar tighter. It has made him sick and angry to be working with these kinds of people again. He couldn't escape his old life. They won't ever let him go. It made him angry how little respect they had for his raptors. It made him angry that they wanted to hurt Bree. There are many times where he has thought of leaving.

But if he quit what kind of person would they replace him with?

Slowing down his motorcycle, Owen began to realize why he was so protective of Bree. She isn't like the rest of them. Unlike his men, Bree takes no pleasure in watching others suffer. People or animal. That spark in her eyes when she met the Raptors for the first time. The amount of enthusiasm, work, and pride she takes is amazing to watch. Her sense of morality is incredible to watch too. Standing up for her beliefs or for the things that are right. It was annoying, however, how much she put herself in danger for it.

Good thing Blue was teaching Bree to have some fear. A healthy dose of fear is good for a person, especially for someone like Bree. Maybe he should bring that up too in their meeting. A new trait he has never seen in his raptors before. Interesting.

The compound came into view and Owen pulled into his usual spot in the makeshift parking lot then made his way towards the offices. When he walks in he sees Barry at his desk filling out paperwork then Billy sitting at the table staring out the window.

"Looking for someone?" Owens asks as he strode over to his desk to finish up a few paperwork.

"A friend," Billy answered not caring to look over at Owen.

"Bree?" Owen questions as he picks up a pen and starts filling out a document.

"Yes, how did you know?" Billy asks, suspiciously eyeing Owen. What was up with these paleontologists? Bree has done the same thing to Owen on several occasions.

"Bree told me you were coming. So obviously she is the only person you would know here at the raptor compound," Owen stated as a matter of fact.

"I know you, don't I?" Billy asked, squinting his eyes at Owen.

Owen looked up at Billy. Now that he mentions it, the guy does look familiar. Where has he seen him before?

"Your one of the men who rescued me aren't you?" Billy exclaimed. "From Isla Sorna!"

"You're the kid we found in the pterodactyl cage. Wow, are you okay? I never heard what happened to you after the incident."

Owen remembered clearly that day. He was with the navy at the time on a mainland base. He remembers the orders they received to rescue civilian in unknown, dangerous territory. Owen was just promoted to the special ops team that went to that island. They had to sign a lot of documents demanding secrecy before they could step on that island. That where Owens experience with dinosaurs began.

"I'm okay thanks to you. Wow, I never got to thank you, guys. I feel better about being here now, knowing you're around," Billy admitted.

"Still need to be careful here. Don't let the cages fool you," Owen cautioned as he returned to his paperwork.

"That I wholeheartedly agree with," Billy replied before looking out the window again. "Where is Bree anyway?"

Owen looked up again at Billy this time noticing that Billy hasn't even bothered to open the manual he was instructed to read. He was focused on the window and clutching to his chair with a tight grip. He looked ready to run.

"Like I told you earlier, attending a meeting. I'm afraid she won't be back today, so you can stop staring out that window and finish taking your tests. We won't be here all night waiting for you," Owen informed.

Now Owen felt uneasy about Billy. Billy looked back at Owen then opened his book to the first page.

"Is it a meeting or a date?" Barry asked in French, notnoticing Owens growing concern over Billy.

"Meeting," Owen answered back in French, still watching Billy.

"Right, well I can finish things up here, so you can go back to your 'meeting'," Barry offered.

Owen sat in his chair contemplating what to do next.

"Has there been many accidents here?" Billy asked out loud.

"There has been a few, no deaths but because of those incidents we now have these regulations and procedures to protect you," Owen answered, truthfully. No point in lying to him.

"Yet it still might not be enough," Billy answered. Owen noticed Billy was now just staring at the book rather than reading it. Then it dawned on Owen. Billy suffers from PTSD. A symptom Owen was very familiar with. Billy probably got it from his experience on Isla Sorna.

Owen then noticed his raptors were screeching, working here every day for the past three years, Owen doesn't notice it anymore. Billy, however, was terrified by it. Billy flinched every time he heard them. What did he go through on that island? Obviously, the pterodactyl weren't the only things he encountered.

Owen did feel a bit relieved this guy had more caution built into him. He just hopes Billy can handle his PTSD. If he can, he might be a great ally to keep Bree safe.

"I know you went through hell when you were on Isla Sorna. What made you overcome your fear and come back?" Owen questioned Billy, curiously.

"To be honest, Bree. I came back for Bree," Billy paused. "I know things between us is over but when I heard she came here, to the most dangerous place on the planet… I… I just need to protect her."

Owen sat there processing the things Billy said. His suspicion was correct, Bree and Billy had a relationship. Seeing however how those two have reacted so far Owen is assuming Bree is the one who broke up with Billy. She is avoiding him, and he is still chasing her. Owen felt upset which surprised him. Why was he upset?

"Well it's time for me to go, I'll inform Bree you're here and that you made it safely. If you need anything else just ask Barry. Seeing as you don't have your own vehicle, yet Barry will help you back to the park," Owen informed. His work here is done.

Billy, Barry, and Owen all shook hands and Barry again assured Owen he could finish things up and help Billy back.

This is a small world they were living in. Owen could tell the next couple of weeks are going to be interesting between the three of them. Welcome to Jurassic World Billy. Hope you enjoy your stay.
