We made it to Cianwood City at around 6:00 pm. It was too late to head into the gym so I waited until the next day to take my first gym challenge. Until then however I would take time to train Lagoon. I had rented a room in the Pokémon Center of Cianwood City. Jackal, Lagoon and I were scattered across the room. Lagoon was gnawing on some thick reinforced steel bars with his teeth; the bars were specially made for his species as a toy. Jack was sharpening his hand-spikes against each other; making sparks fly from the friction.
"Jack, I have a question." I prepared to ask the lucario, I sat up on the bed and looked at him.
Should I turn on the translator so Lagoon can understand? Jackal suggested with his eyebrow raised.
"Yeah, that'd be nice." I told him.
Alright it should be working. He confirmed it was on. Small rumbling and chomping noises could be heard.
I can't break this darn thing! Lagoon yelled frustratingly. His growling was loud and seeing his childlike frustration take place was hilarious.
Darn? You know you can curse kid we aren't foreign to that kind of thing. His sarcastic tone was radiating throughout my brain.
My mom said I can't swear and she's dead now; so I want to withhold her wishes. Lagoon replied to the rude comment made by Jackal with the most heart fueled sentence I heard come from his mouth in the very few days I knew him.
"Speaking of your late mother, how come you don't seem to be beat up about that at all? I mean you haven't even talked about her." I asked Lagoon with an eyebrow raised. However Jack answered the question himself.
Wild Pokémon like us are constantly being exposed to death. Unlike humans, who live lives of unneeded luxury. You all have just a small glimpse at our life and you think it's horrible, but to us it is perfect. Predator and prey; we fit each other perfectly. Lagoon and I are apex top of the line hunters, we don't shop at department stores. The forest and the mangrove are our market centers and for us everything is 50% off. He finished his speech with something I probably would quote multiple times in the future. The lucario winked at the small alligator. I could tell a friendship was brewing amongst the two Pokémon.
That is true. My brother died to a parasect who decided he wanted to impale him with his pincers. Of course mom ripped the thing apart with her powerful teeth. He mimicked what I presume was his imitation of his mom's jaws slamming shut against each other.
Also my two baby sisters died from being decapitated right in front of me by a territorial feraligatr. My mom almost died trying to keep him at bay, but he almost killed her. That happened before I was born too. So I had a bunch of siblings, but most of them died before I was born which makes me a single child. He entertained us with a depressing story of his family. The little totodile didn't seem bothered by his background and seemed rather content with being an orphan.
"What about your dad?" I asked curiously.
Mom never told me anything about him. The totodile answered quickly. I could tell he was lying, but I didn't call him out on it until later. I saw Jack in the background digging in the mini-fringe and he pulled out a bottle of fruit juice.
"Hey, how do you know how to do that? Did your previous trainer teach you or something?" I wondered out loud quietly, but the lucario heard and he looked at me while taking a swig of his juice. He kept eye contact with me while chugging down his drink, making the air between us extremely awkward.
Do you think I'm stupid? The sarcastic lucario asked with a calm voice, his eyes narrowed at me.
"No, why would I?" I answered his question while simultaneously creating my own.
I seems like you do. But for your information I'm 17, I think that's old enough to know how to figure out how to crack open a bottle. He called me an idiot under his breath and walked over to the bed on the other side of the room.
"17, wow you're older than me." I exclaimed with a surprised look on my face.
Yeah and shit stinks? The tall dog Pokémon replied sarcastically, earning a small chuckle from Lagoon.
"Whatever, the only shit I hear is coming from your mouth." I told the lucario with a smirk. Thinking I had won the dispute.
You can't hear shit, smartass. You can see it, smell it, touch it and especially in your case, you can taste it. A hardy laugh came from Lagoon's jaws as he rolled on the floor holding his stomach, he repeatedly giggled at Jacks joke.
"Go to hell." I said embarrassedly with my hands covering my mouth hiding the chuckles coming from my lips.
"Only if you'll pay for the ticket." The lucario had an endless amount of clever insults. He threw an empty crumbled fruit juice container at me.

It was getting cooler outside, but it was still above 80 degrees. I pushed through it. Jackal was using wild Pokémon as target practice hitting most of the water creatures with ease using his various aura attacks; though he did miss a couple of the smaller and faster staryu and wingull's that populated the area.
Lagoon had been wasting his time wrestling kingler's on the sand. Their size was greater than his, but his speed and intelligence overcame them. I made sure to pay close attention to the young totodile whilst he was training for fear he would get torn in half by the giant crab pincers, but it was obvious he could handle himself.
I clapped my hands to signal for the two Pokémon to return to me. "It's time for a new method of training." I explained to them. "You both are excellent battlers, but at this point you both aren't very physically powerful and for the gym you will definitely need strength."
"Today I want you both to kill the biggest pokémon you see; then if you can handle that we will proceed with the next step." I ordered them off. Lagoon excitedly scuttled across the beach and dived into the water to search for his prey. However Jack lacked the ability to swim so instead he treaded down the beach. Because of his steel typing; Jack got very hot easily and his panting was evident as he walked away from me.
"Wait, Jack." I called the lucario, whom sluggishly dragged himself over to me. "Are you hot?" I asked the lucario. He nodded; opting out of using his telepathy for his exhaustion prevented him from doing so. "Then I don't want you walking up and down this bitch ass beach." I joked, he didn't seem amused.
"I want to do it; if I can't handle my weaknesses I won't be able to further my strengths." He explained through his panting.
"Alright I can respect that, but call me if you need me, I'll be here." The lucario gave me thumbs up and a nod then ran off. I decided to be productive with my time and did some push-ups. I did about thirty before quitting and falling asleep. I slept until the late at night; Jack woke me up so we could go back to the center. The next day I would challenge my first gym leader.
