CHAPTER 8

RISE OF THE NEW ENEMY

COLE'S POV:

I can't believe this. I stayed up and spent my Friday night spying on my brother and his date when I could've been sitting in front of the television relaxing. Looks like I was wrong. I thought this girl was some kind of evil creature on the inside disguised as a human, but it seems that she's just like everyone else. Who else would talk about their past in an emotional way?

I decided to just go home. All of this was just a waste of time. I just couldn't wait to change into my pajamas and settle down for the night. I was hoping to get that opportunity if Sensei didn't already figure out that I was gone.

Before I was even halfway to Jamanicai Village, I heard strange whooshing sounds behind me. I stopped and turned around. Nothing. I guess I was just hearing things. I continued walking. This time I heard to sound again, but it was right in front of me. Okay, now I know I'm not hearing things, but am I seeing things? For a moment, I thought I saw a shadow that was about fifty feet away from me. I removed my sword from my backside and held it in defense. I stared at that shadow like there was no tomorrow.

"I know your there," I called out to it, "If you wanna fight, you better do it now, while I'm still in the mood."

Somehow, he just disappeared in thin air. Where the heck did he go? Suddenly, a pack of shadows started forming a circle around me. It looks like I was the center of attention. What are these guys surrounding me for? More importantly, who the heck are these guys?

"Okay, I don't who you guys are, and I'm not sure why you keep disappearing and reappearing, but if your evil, then I'm willing to defend myself and fight," I explained to them.

"He is who we're looking for," one of them said, "Take him down!"

Before I even knew it, those shadow looking things were coming toward me.

"I don't think so," I said, getting into position to do spinjitzu, "Ninja Go!"

I took down some shadows, making them vanish, but there were still more to deal with. I fought with using my sword at first, knocking down some of those things and sending them on their way. All of a sudden, this larger shadow, who might be their leader, stood in front of me and used his fist to knock me down, making my sword slide away from the scene. This one was strong. I stood up and tried to fight with my hands and feet, but he kept taking me down each. When I tried to kick him in the face, he dodged it and used his foot to kick me right on the stomach. Not only was this guy strong, but he felt as hard as a rock. I think he may have broken a few of my ribs. I couldn't hardly even get up without him taking me by the arms and slamming me into the wall, his hands pinning me on the brick covered surface. When my eyes adjusted properly, I could see that he was half human and half evil warrior. To be honest, he looked like he was the only one that was still human. The rest of them looked like they were shadows or ghosts.

I tried scrambling out of his grasp, but he wouldn't let go. "What do you want from me?"

"You know what we want."

"Actually, I really don't. Just get off of me."

"General, ask him about the boy," someone behind him said. So this guy was the general? Okay, I'm really confused now.

"Where is the boy?" the General asked.

"What boy?" I asked him.

"The Smith boy. I'm talking about the Smith boy. Where is he?"

"I don't know what your talking about."

"Your lying!"

"I'm being serious. I don't know." I was scared. I know I don't usually have fears, but this time, my bones were just rattling.

The General guy looked at me. "You should know who he is. He's very close to you."

"I really don't know anything. I promise."

He growled and looked at me hard. "You never saw a thing." He used a brick on my forehead to knock me out. The last feelings I had were being thrown out in the middle of the road. Before I knew it, I suddenly grew into a state of unconsciousness.

KAI`S POV:

Kitty and I were driving on the road having a good conversation. The night has almost come to an end, so I decided to take Kitty home. On the way, I thought I would tell her stories that would make her wanna laugh.

"Are you serious?" Kitty asked, laughing a little harder than normal.

"I am," I said, "He styled his hair to make it look like Elvis Presley`s. The first time I saw him that way was when he finally asked my sister on a date."

"Do you even trust Jay?"

"Of course I do. He's a good friend. Sometimes, I think of him as a brother. It's too bad he's not with my sister anymore."

"Why did they break up?"

"Reasons. It just wasn't working out."

"I'm sure he'll find someone else out there one day." She looked out the windowsill and cried, "Hey, look out!"

I hit the brakes and put the car in park. "What is it?"

"I saw someone lying in the road."

"Let's go see." We got out of the car and found who I was not hoping to see. "What is he doing out here?"

"You know him?"

"This is my friend, Cole. He also teaches at the academy."

"I wonder how this happened to him."

"I'm wondering the same thing." I held him up and put him right arm around my shoulder. "I'm not leaving him out here. I'm taking him home."

"Does he live by himself?"

"No. He lives with other people. Could you help me get him into the car?" Kitty opened the door to the backseat while I place Cole inside. Kitty closed the door as we both got back into the car. I started the car again and we were back to driving. "I'm sorry you had to see one of my friends like this."

"It's fine. Is he also a martial artist?"

"Why do you ask?"

"He's wearing a ninja gi."

"Oh, yeah, he is. We met training together."

"Oh. I was just wondering."

Once we made it to Kitty's apartment, I had to say good night to her outside, since I didn't trust Cole being unoccupied without someone around him.

"I wish I could say good night to you in front of your door."

"I feel the same way, but you can't leave your friend alone in the car."

"I figure out what happened."

"I know you will." She sighed. "Well, this is me."

"Yep."

"I had fun tonight."

"I'm glad you did."

"Thank you for a wonderful night." She wrapped her arms around me. I did the same. It may not have been a good night kiss, but it's a start. She looked up at me. "Maybe we could go out again sometime?"

"Maybe next Saturday night?"

"Sounds good. See you later, Kai."

"See you soon."

As she walked inside the building, I knew good and well that I would be thinking about her every moment of the day. Sure, we didn't share a good night kiss, but that can happen on another date. Tonight, I gave her a good time. I thought about her the whole time as I walked back to my car and drove home with Cole lying unconscious in the backseat.

COLE'S POV:

When I came to, I looked to see that I was resting in my bed. My ribs were still sore, so I couldn't sit up. I felt a bandage on my head. I didn't wake up with amnesia, thank goodness. I do remember getting hit in the head with a brick, which explains the bandage. I tried to get up, but a hand gently pushed me back.

"Try not to move," I heard the voice of Sensei Wu tell me.

"Sensei?" I asked.

"Yes, Cole, it is me. I'm supposing that you don't remember anything."

"Not really. I do remember getting hit in the head with a brick. How did I get here?"

"I brought you home," Kai said in the doorway, "You really thought I wouldn't know what you were doing. Jay told me everything. Your lucky he fell asleep at the beginning of it. I suppose he would. I can't believe you would go and sneak up on me like that."

"I did it for a good reason, but now I can't remember why. I will be honest. I did sneak up on you. I'm sorry for that."

"Well, I don't except your apology. I'll never forgive you for this." He walked away from the room.

I looked at Sensei. "I suppose your mad at me, too?"

"No, I am just disappointed," Sensei said, "Your punishment is to keep away from Kai for a week. It will give you plenary of time to remember everything that happened and why you were in the middle of the road." Wu left the room.

I started going back through my flashbacks. I looked to see myself on the ground with a bunch of shadows running off from me. My flashback ended. I shook my head, which gave me a massive headache. I decided not to think about it and fell asleep.

KAI AND KITTY HAD A GOOD TIME. SURE, THERE WASN'T A GOOD NIGHT KISS, BUT I'M SURE SOMETHING GREAT WILL HAPPEN.

COLE GOT DEFEATED BY SOME SORT OF SHADOW THINGS. WHAT COULD THEY BE?

LOOKS LIKE KAI FOUND OUT THAT COLE WAS SPYING ON HIM. I DON'T THINK THEY WILL TALKING TO EACH OTHER FOR A LONG WHILE.

I HOPE YOU ARE LOVING THIS STORY.
