I am sorry. I am having a huge writer's block with this story. I am trying. :O
I looked around at the scenery. The beautiful trees sway with the light wind. The flowers blooming around some bushes. A family of bunnies hopped around as we passed by them. I smiled. Kili chuckled, "I see you're little happy there, Lyn."
I ran my fingers through the pony's mane. I smiled big, "Of course I am Mr. Kili. I am in the great outdoors and able to venture out of boring ole Hobbiton."
A certain hobbit's voice spoke up, "Hobbiton isn't boring, Adalyn."
I sighed leaning forward as I hugged the pony's neck. I turned my head to the fellow hobbit, "It is too Bilbo! Before, when I lived in the forest I would go on mini adventures just before supper. The hobbits in Hobbiton are just... boring... They do the same thing over and over again and never once seek out what could lie over the horizon. If I recall Bilbo, you and I went off into the woods when we are visiting to our respected homes."
Fili raised an eyebrow, "So you two are childhood friends then?"
I sat up looking over to Fili who was on the right of me. I gave a nod, "Yes, we are the same age. We are both 50 years of age. My papa would take me to Hobbiton to visit my Aunt and our fathers worked together at some point of time so we would visit the Bagginses. His father would bring him to the forest to my home to visit and play."
Kili rested his chin on top of my head, "So you and mister boggins are really close then."
I moved my head up slightly but not enough to get him off of my head. My eyes looked over to Bilbo, "Yes, you can say that. He did let me stay with him when I was younger when I arrived on my Aunt Cornelia's Holestep. Ever since then I find out wee Bilbo have turned boring himself, worrying over the little things."
Bilbo shook his head, "Adalyn there are times that we must be like a true Hobbit. What we did when we were younger was un-hobbit like."
I rolled my eyes, "I'm only part Hobbit, I can have the freedom to have the want to go off somewhere. However, as long as I have my books I am fine."
Thorin's voice yelled out, "We are stopping here for the night!"
I finally looked around the scenery and noticed it changed to a rocky cliff. How long have we been talking for? Kili stopped his pony and I pushed myself up. I placed a hand on his shoulder and jumped off. I looked around at the nightly home. I scrunched up my nose. It's not going to be a comfortable night... I turned my head to look at the horizon and notice the Sun is going down. All of the dwarves, Gandalf and Bilbo got off of their ponies. Some dwarves started to get camp set up immediately. The bigger dwarf which I think his name is Bombur walked over towards me. He gave me a gentle smile. I couldn't help but smile back. I spoke, "I am guessing we are on dinner duty, huh Mr. Bombur?"
Bombur nodded as he gestured the way to go. I am guessing I am hunting. I looked around for the dwarf brothers. I shouted out, "Mr. Kili! Mr. Fili! Where are you two?"
Fili popped his head around a huge boulder, "Yes?"
I laughed lightly, "Where are my bow?"
Fili pointed to an area, "With Kili."
I gave a nod. I looked up at Bombur, "One moment. Needing to fetch my things."
Bombur gave an understanding nod. I headed over to the gestured area and found Kili helping out fuzzy hat. I spoke up, "Mr. Kili, my bow."
Kili slid off the strap of my bow and arrows without surprisingly getting it stuck with his bow and arrows. He held it out to me. I was abotu to grab it till he pulled it away. His brown eyes looked down at me, "Be careful, okay lyn?"
I gave a nod, "I am not a child anymore Mr. Kili. I am 50 years old."
Kili gave me a look. I rolled my eyes now grabbing the extended bow and arrows, "Thank you Mr. Kili."
Kili went back to work with setting up the camp with fuzzy hat. I headed back towards Bombur. I smiled up at him, "Ready."
Bombur nodded and he began to lead the way this time. I followed the giant dwarf.
I readied my bow and arrow as a good boar ran away from an apparently threatening Bombur. I closed an eye as it were to give me an accurate shot. It works. Trust me. My fingers let go of the arrow and it shot through the air hitting the boar in the neck. Bombur walked over to the boar. He gave me a thumbs up. He barely talks. I don't mind it. I think we can figure something out to communicate with each other. I jogged over to the dying boar. I pulled out my dagger from my dress belt. I slit it's neck and let the blood drain from the boar before we take it back to the camp. We already have taken back a boar, a stag and a rabbit. We had to get a bunch of food. There are alot of dwarves and they have big stomachs, especially Bombur. I looked up at the taller dwarf, "I think we have enough Mr. Bombur. We better start the fire now as it's getting dark now."
He gave me a nod. The blood looks to be drained by now. I grabbed a leaf from the ground and wiped my dagger off from the blood. Bombur picked up the boar and we both headed back towards the camp.
Bombur wanted to keep in charge of turned the meat over the fire. I seasoned the food. I was sitting next to the fire to keep warm. Everyone had a plate of meat in their hands. The dwarves, Gandalf and Bilbo gave their compliments to Bombur and I. It made me smile to the fact that I could cook up some food with the dwarves' cook and gain their love for the food. Bilbo was sitting some ways from me, near Gandalf. Thorin was in the distance with Balin. The brothers were in a nook of a huge rock boulder. I munched on the pieces of meat. Some dwarves in the distance were laughing quietly over something is being said. I don't mind being by myself by the fire. I am just content over the fact they are liking the food.
I lay awake on my sleeping mat looking at the stars. I could hear someone getting up. I looked over and see it's Bilbo sneaking an apple to Myrtle. A small smile was brought to my lips. That softie. I turned my head back up looking up at the stars. I could make out some constellations. Kind of. A distance sound was made. Bilbo spoke up, "What was that?"
I laid on my side looking over to him. Kili spoke seriously, "Orcs."
I frowned. Bilbo waddled over, "Orcs?"
I turned my body giving the brothers a look as Fili spoke, "Throat cutters. The dozens of them out there."
Kili continued for Fili, "The low lands are crawling with them. They strike in wee hours when everyone's asleep. Quick and quiet, no screams. Just lots of blood."
I spoke up," You two shouldn't joke about that."
Thorin spoke seriously, "You think that's funny? You think a night raid by Orcs is a joke?"
Fili and Kili's eyes met with mine. Fili looked ashamed. Kili looked guilty. He lookedu pat his uncle then looked away, "We didn't mean anything by it."
Thorin walked around, "No you didn't. You know nothing of the world."
Thorin walked away leaving the camp to go by a shoulder. Fili smoked his pipe then whispered, "I'm sorry Addie... I..."
Kili continued, "We... forgot..."
Balin appeared, "Don't mind him, laddie. Thorin has more cause than most to hate Orcs."
I waved my hand slightly by my side, "I do too..."
Balin gave a light nod towards me. Balin continued, "After the dragon took the Lonely Mountain... King Thror tried to reclaim the ancient Dwarf kingdom of Moria... But our enemy have got there first."
I sat up hugging my legs towards me as I listen to Balin's story of Thorin's hate of orcs. Balin thought for a moment to recollect his memory. He spoke ,"Moria had been taken by legions of Orcs... lef by the most vile of all their race: Azog the Defiler. The giant Gundabad Orc... had sworn to wipe out the line of Durin."
My heart froze for a moment. That would mean Thorin...Kili... and Fili... I don't want the brothers to die and I don't want their uncle to die either as he would be reclaiming the throne that is rightfully his... Balin continued, "He began... by beheading the King... Thrain, Throin's father was driven mad by grief. He went missing. Taken prisoner or killed... we did not know. We were leaderless... defeat and death... were upon us.. That is when I saw him. A young dwarf prince facing down the pale orc. He stood alone against this terrible foe. His armor rent... wielding nothing but an oaken branch as a shield. Azog the Defiler learned that day... that the line of Durin would not be so easily broken... Our forces rallied and drove the Orcs back."
I looked over at Thorin to see the war veteran. He have been through a lot. I couldn't imagine the years that have been on him from losing the mountain, his throne, his paternal lineage... just everything. Their enemy was defeated during that battle. Unfortunately, the loss of so much of their kind cause for no victory celebration. I noticed all of the sleeping dwarves have woken up and stood facing the same way I have been facing... Thorin. He has many scars and he keeps a brave front for his followers and his family. I looked over to Fili and Kili. They were looking over at their uncle. He wants to make sure they know they can do anything if they put their mind to it. Be brave, fight for what you love and cherish. Fight for what you want. I smiled. Thorin is their role model. A pretty dang good one too.
