Chapter 9

CHRISTINA POV

Four, it's all I can focus on. He can't take the memory serum; I need him to realize that. I feel myself pick up the pace, sprinting towards the capsule storage unit. I run for another minute and stop.

Where am I going? I don't even know where the storage unit is.

Christina! I hit my face embarrassed by my stupidity. Where have I been running all this time? I am about to turn around to find a map or something, this place is like a maze, when I see a name I recognize. I walk closer to the door to read the nameplate more clearly. David. I go to open the door but it's locked.

You have got to be kidding me! I don't have time for this.

I stand sideways, with my right leg closest to the door. Using my right leg, I side kick the area just below the doorknob with all my strength. The door flies of the hinges and lands on the ground in front of me, I walk over the door to meet David's angry glare.

"Christina what are you doing!" David exclaims.

I walk over to him, grabbing the collar of his shirt and lifting him out of his wheelchair.

"I swear to god if you do not answer my questions quickly and honestly I will snap your neck right here. You may not remember what you have done, but I do so you can be sure I will be guilt free when I hear your neck snap and watch you crumble to the floor." I say my voice filled with venom.

"Ok, ok!" He says raising his hands in the air, "What do you want to know."

"Where is the capsule storage unit?"

"That's confidential information." Is he stupid? I told him to tell me what I want to know. Am I not intimidating?

I grab his finger bending it back until I hear it snap and a cry leaves David's lips. "I told you to tell me what I want to know. Let's try again. Next time I won't be so kind when you give me a bullshit answer.

"The storage unit-"

"Be careful I was Candor, you can't lie to me." I say cutting him off.

"I know, ok, I'll tell you." He starts to make a chocking noise and I loosen my grip on his neck. "To get to the storage unit, you must cross the field and enter the other building. Once inside, turn right on the third opening and enter the elevator. Click level BCSU, it stands for basement capsule storage unit. When the elevator opens your there, the whole basement is the storage unit."

I stare at him, analyzing his 'tell' to find out if he is lying. I don't think he is. I stare at him a second more before saying, "Thank you." I let go his collar and watch him fall to the floor. I turn on my heel heading towards the door, well where the door used to be, when I hear David.

"Um, can you help me get back in my wheelchair?"

I turn to face him and say, "No."

I reach the elevator and begin panting.

Damn, I'm out of shape. No, Christina focus. Why the hell am I so easily distracted?

I click the down button and wait for the elevator. I need to get to Four before he does something stupid. The doors open and I slip inside. I quickly found the button labeled, BCSU, and press it. After about 3 seconds a monitor lowered from the ceiling of the elevator revealing a dark blue screen, which was bordered with all the 5 symbols of the factions. I am startled when I hear a voice.

"The Capsule Storage Unit may only be shown to employees of the Bureau, please swipe your identification cards here." A rectangular shape appeared on the screen, with words above that read, please place identification card here.

"DAVID!" I yelled out in frustration, he knew I couldn't get in. Bastard!

I caught a glimpse of a man walking by, but my gaze was fixed on his ID hanging from his neck.

"Excuse me?" I say in a kind voice. The man stops and looks over at me. He points to himself and I say, "Yeah you, can you come over here please? I need help." He walks over to the elevator and I see his name on his ID, Tyler. He stops right by the elevator and I wave him forward. "I think the buttons broken can you come in here and fix it? He nods stepping in the elevator.

He looks at the control panel and his eyes go wide when he notices which button I pressed, "You can't go down there, you don't have the authority."

"I know Tyler." I say in a sad voice looking down, "But you do." I clench my fist and punch him in the temple; he goes limp and falls to the floor. I bend down, removing his ID from his neck, "Sorry Tyler."

I place the ID on the rectangular outline and watch as the red line scans it. "Welcome Tyler Meck."

So that's his full name. I turn around and say, "Sorry Tyler Meck." The elevator doors close and I feel the elevator descend to the basement.

I hear a ding and the doors open. I step over Tyler's unconscious body and exit the elevator. On the floor next to the elevator is another guy, he is also unconscious, ID removed. Four is definitely down here.

When I look up, I am shocked. The walls are painted a dark blue and the capsules are lined up, creating hundreds of rows.

How am I going to find Four in here?

I walk up to one of the capsule's getting a closer look. They are glass cylinders full of a murky blue substance, which the body is floating in. The thermostat of the capsule is set to -100 degrees. The capsules are stacked on top of each other to create more space. The highest amount stacked is seven.

Where do I go? Where do I find him?"

"FOUR!" I yell, my voice desperate. "FOUR, WHERE ARE YOU?" No answer, he is deliberately ignoring me. I begin running down the aisles in desperate search for Four.

I notice a row labeled, Pedrad, but I force myself to keep running. Christina, you can check on Uriah later.

I run past a large gold door, which has to be at least 10 feet tall. I backpedal to look at it more closely. Above the door is a large gold sign that reads, Hall of the prized Divergent.

Tris has to be in here; she defeated every serum, so that means Four is to. I grip the door handle tightly, pulling it open, and I step inside.

TRIS POV

"Your brother likes Cara." Marlene says laughing, "She is like, so boring." Marlene fakes a yawn for emphasis. "But then again so is Caleb."

"Hey!" I say nudging her shoulder, "he's not boring he's just… ok, he's boring."

"I can't imagine them do anything else but reading text-." Marlene is cut off my Uriah's panting.

Uriah, trying to collect his breath says, "Tris. Four. Memory. Christina. Come."

"What?" I say confused.

"Come!" he says grabbing my hand and running with me towards his monitor. Marlene follows behind us, just as puzzled as I am.

We reach his monitor and I see a dark blue room with large gold doors. "Uriah, I don't understand."

"I'm so sorry Tris, just watch." He says.

I take a seat right by the monitor and watch.

Christina walks through the door, and I watch as she scans the room. What is she looking for? A masculine, yet vulnerable voice, interrupts my thoughts, a voice that is oh too familiar, Four. I see him turn around holding a vile in one hand and a syringe in the other.

What is he doing?

"What do you want Christina?" He asks, his voice colder than I remember.

"Mathew was stupid enough to give you the memory serum, and I'm here to make sure you realize that what your doing is permanent, there's no going back."

I look up at Uriah and Marlene, my eyes begin to water and I feel my tears begin to roll down my cheeks, "No, no, he's not going to drink it. He can't drink it." I'm hysterical now, he can't forget!

"Tris, shhhhh, just watch." Marlene tells me, her face sad.

"What makes you think I will change my mind because of you?" Four says, walking around the small room stopping at my capsule. I look closely and I see myself floating in the murky blue substance. My blonde hair a light blue from the water, my clothes replaced with new black ones, clothes that lack the stains of blood that devoured my old ones.

"I need to forget." He says clenching the serum.

"No, you need to remember." Christina says, looking at him. "Remember what she meant to you, you don't want to forget her."

"YES I DO!" Four yells, "You don't understand the pain I'm feeling. I need peace. Tris was what kept me going, I was ready to kill myself before I met her. Now she's gone!" He says kicking the wall, "There is no point in pretending that my life can get better."

"Four! Do you hear yourself? Tris changed you; she made you a better person. She bandaged the wounded person you were and made you strong."

"STOP! THIS IS MY DECISION, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TELLING ME WHEATHER OR NOT I CAN TAKE THIS SERUM!

"No Four, it's not your decision because you are unstable!" Christina yells back at him. "Everyone is devastated about Tris dying, it's not just you, but you are choosing to take the cowardly way out. Tris did not fall in love with a coward. Is this how you want her to see you? A man that couldn't face his emotions, a man no better than the one that almost threw her off the chasm?

"Don't you dare compare me to Peter! We are not the same!"

"Don't you see it? You are. You are taking the easy way out, just like him." Christina looks down and walks towards Four, she looks up at him her eyes glossy. "You may not think I understand your pain, but I do." She says sniffling, "Tris was my best friend and I lost her; we jumped of the train together holding hands after the choosing ceremony. We have all lost people we care about, but they are all watching over us to make sure we get through it, to make sure we move on.

"I can't-"

"Yes you can." Christina says cutting him off. "Tris would be ashamed by the man you have become if you drink that. She fell in love with the strong Four, dauntless prodigy. Not the cowardly Four that needs chemicals to take away his grief."

"She is not here to know, and she doesn't understand the kind of pain that aches at my heart. What's the point of remembering? There is nothing worth remembering. Tris is dead, Zeke hates me and secretly you all blame me for the death of Uriah."

"That's not true! Zeke will come around, I promise."

"No he won't!"

"Fine! Even if he didn't come around Tris shaped who are, she changed you. She helped you overcome your fears. If you drink that, no matter how hard you try, you will never be the same, that person only exists because of Tris."

"If I drink this, it won't matter Christina, I won't have the fears I once had, I will forget them all, I will forget Marcus."

"Sure, yeah, you will forget Marcus, but at what cost? You say Tris is gone when she is not. She lives on in your memory, she lives on in here." Christina says resting her hand on Four's heart. "Now give me the serum Four." Four looks down at the syringe but clutches it even tighter. A tear rolls down Christina's cheek as she begs, "Tobias, please."

Four walks over and places the syringe in her hands. A look of relief washes over Christina's face. She looks down at the syringe, noticing he only gave her the syringe, not the serum.

"NOOOOOOOOOO!" I scream, banging on the monitor as I watch him swallow the serum.

Did you like it? I hope you guys liked it! I will reveal what Caleb and Mathew are working on next chapter :) Feel free to give me any suggestions!
