Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto.
Yahiko's body stood on a thin spire atop one of the many skyscrapers that made up the skyline of Amegakure no Sato. Konan approached him. Pain filling her heart at the sight of her lost friend. His black cloak whipping in the wind he turned to look at her with Nagato's eyes. "What is it Angel?"
"Sensei sent me a message. He had some information for us." She said.
"What did he have to say?" He asked.
"He found the man in Konaha that helped kill Yahiko." Konan answered.
"What! Who is it?" he shouted.
"It was a man named Danzō." Konan said.
"What do you mean was?" he asked.
"Jiraiya brought me his head." She said.
"Where is it now?" he demanded.
"I left it him. Why do you want to know?" Konan asked.
"So I can find out if what he said is true." He said.
"You want me to go back and get it Pain-sama?" Konan asked.
He just looked at her not even bothering to answer her.
She sighed and hung her head for a second before she stood up strait and looked her old friend in the eye. "I will return when I have the head." She paused then added "Sensei said that he has found a member of your clan. He has set out on a quest to gather any Uzumaki who are left in Konaha so that the little girl will have family. He has asked if we would set up a hide out so that they have some where to go if Konaha is destroyed so that they will not be scattered like they are now."
Pain looked shocked. "There is some one left alive?" he said.
"That is what he said. If Sensei is still there do you want me to deliver a message?" Konan asked.
"No just bring back the head. If Sensei is telling the truth I will think about his request. No go and see if you can retrieve the head." Pain said.
Konan bowed to pain and disappeared in a swirl of paper.
As soon as Konan left Jiraiya realized that she had left Danzō. He smiled sadly and sat down in the corner of the room. Konan would have to come back for it and he was going to stay just in case she needed him for anything. He let out a perverted giggle as he thought of what she might need from him. His perverted thoughts were derailed when he realized that if any woman in the world could be considered his daughter Konan was the closest. He had left the three orphans when they were not much older than most Genin. From what he had learned from Danzō's memories they had had a hard life. He thought he had done as much as he could for them but now he was not so sure. Maybe he should have taken them with him or forgotten about Konaha and stayed with them. He shook his head it would do none of them any good dwelling on the past. He could only make sure he did not make the same mistakes with Naruto. He decided right then that he would not put any thing ahead of his family. He would make sure they would remain safe even if Konaha fell because of his actions.
AN: Sorry for the short chapter. It has been a long time since I posted anything so I figured I would give you what I have so far. I am kind of at a bit of a block. I wanted to put some action in here but I am at a loss as to how to actually make it as good as I want it to be. This chapter was originally going to be where Jiraiya started to write his novels with Konan and Nagato as the main characters. As I started writing Nagato was more Lord Pain than the shy boy he was when Jiraiya was their teacher. It did not seem right to have the scene go that way so I ended up with this scene with Jiraiya think about what he might have done differently. I was planing on having Obito show up and ask Nagato to join him. Nagato would refuse and then they would fight but with the way Nagato is at this point he would not refuse. So I have to either have Pain playing both sides or move the confrontation to later. Which means nine chapters without any fights and fights in Naruto are very central to the story. So my dilemma is do I try and stay close to the spirit of the original or keep going as I have been where it is more about intrigue and manipulation. Could really use some feedback on which direction I should take the story.
