Orion Black and other important people were sat in the minister's office. It was a dull day, rain struck the enchanted windows, which mirrored that above ground.
Things were not going well for the ministry, especially since the Daily Prophet had printed a story from the escaped werewolves' point of view.
"We've bought out the Daily Prophet minister," one man with dark hair and a large beard was saying, "we won't have any more stories like the last one."
The minister nodded, his face was lined and he looked stressed as he glanced over at Orion, "what do you think we should do about our escapee?"
Orion looked thoughtful, he resembled his son, though his age was catching up to him and his thick black hair was streaked with grey, "I think we need to search Sirius' residence again," he said, finally, "but if the werewolf is found, do not arrest my son."
"That's impossible," the head of the auror office, Adrian Oddy, interrupted, "he's hiding a fugitive, he will be arrested and sent to Azkaban."
Orion looked over to the minister, who nodded before saying firmly, "I have given Mr Black my word that his son will not be taken into custody."
"This is outrageous!" another person yelled, but was silenced by the look the minister shot him.
"I want the aurors to search Sirius Black's flat again," the minister ordered, "arrest the werewolf if he is found and bring him back to the prison."
Sirius was in the kitchen, making lunch for him and Remus. The last couple of days had been strange, well, stranger than they had been before. They hadn't kissed again after the first time and Sirius was starting to worry that it had been a mistake.
But it couldn't stop him feeling cheerful whenever he saw Remus smile, almost as if his happiness was contagious.
There was a sharp knock on the door.
Sirius froze, hardly anyone ever came over any more, he had to cut of most ties after rescuing Remus; James and Lily always flooed straight into the flat.
There was another knock, he could hear voices from the other side of the door.
Sirius didn't know what to do, he tried to think of ways to hide Remus but it was too late, the front door was blasted in.
From in the kitchen he could see the door flying across he room, slamming into his over expensive leather sofa with such force that both sofa and door were propelled into the fire place. Sirius only had half a second to register his relief that the fire wasn't lit.
They say that in an emergency your eyes flicker to what you love most, and in this moment Sirius' eyes were on the door to Remus' room.
He ran out of the kitchen and into the living room where several aurors where currently standing.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" he cried, as the aurors began to open the doors to cupboards and going into the bathroom, their wands raised.
"We're searching for a criminal, Black," replied the head of the aurors, Adrian Oddy.
"Well there's no criminals here," he retorted.
The auror smirked, "we'll see."
Sirius gulped as they searched his bedroom before moving onto Remus'.
"We found him!" one shouted, gleefully.
Sirius ran forwards as Remus was dragged to his feet, one auror had hit him with some curse, he was awake but it was as if he had no control over his limbs.
"You can't take him!" Sirius bellowed, one of the aurors held him back as he tried to run towards the men that were holding Remus.
"We can and we are, Black," one replied.
"Arrest me too, then!"
"Your father has wished for your protection, for some unknown reason," Oddy said, "take the werewolf away."
Sirius broke out of the grip of the auror that was holding him and ran after Remus, but before he even had time to defend himself, Oddy had hit him with a curse and he was knocked out.
He came round an hour later, Lily and James' worried faces were looking at him.
"Sirius, are you okay?" Lily asked, "are you hurt?"
"What happened?" James questioned.
"Gimme a minute," Sirius groaned, clutching at his head as he lay on the floor, then he remembered.
"They took Remus," he gasped, sitting up.
"Sirius, you need rest," Lily tried to push him back into a lying position, but he stood up.
"Don't you understand Lily?" Sirius yelled, "they're going to kill him!"
Lily flinched as he raised his voice, Sirius sighed, "I'm sorry I didn't mean to shout."
Lily shrugged it off, "it's understandable, you're stressed," she said, "just don't make a habit of taking things out on your friends."
Sirius nodded, "I need to get to the ministry."
He marched straight up to the minister's office, his father was sat there for a meeting already.
"I need to speak with you, minister," Sirius demanded, hoping he sounded more important than he felt.
"Black," the minister said, sounding unsurprised, "what business could you possibly have with me?"
"Don't talk to me like a child," Sirius snarled, "let Remus Lupin go."
"You mean the werewolf?" the minister asked, "no, I don't think I can do that."
"Yes you can," Sirius retorted, glaring.
"He's up for execution, tomorrow at dawn, you're welcome to join us if you wish," the minister said, clearly enjoying playing with Sirius' emotions.
Sirius banged his fist on the desk, "No!" he screamed, "you can't do this, you can't sentence an innocent person to death! He hasn't even been given a chance, or a trial!"
Orion, who had stayed quiet throughout this argument, looked over at the minister, "he has a point," he stated, calmly, "a trial would be in order."
"He isn't just some ordinary criminal," the minister said, before he went quiet as he thought, "in fact, yes. I agree, Remus Lupin deserves a trial. You can represent him, Sirius, I'll send you an owl saying the date. See you then."
Sirius was then escorted out of the office by an auror.
In the office, the minister poured himself and Orion a drink, Orion swirled the brown liquid pensively, "what are you planning, minister?"
"Well," he replied, "with any luck this trial will go badly and people will see that the werewolf prison is a good thing, there won't be any more outrage and I'll be in running for being voted for my third term in a row."
"How can you be sure that it won't go well?"
"Oh, I will see to it," the minister smirked.
