Once again, my lovelies, we are at this point where a new update is here for your reading pleasure!
Disclaimer: I'm pretty sure you all know that I don't' own Naruto by now…
"Gaara, why do you put your paperwork off for so long?" I whined. "My hand's starting to hurt!"
"What do you expect me to do about it, Kei?" he growled. "I'm also aggravated at the amount of work that we have to do."
"Maybe you should do the paperwork when it comes in," I offered. "I'd help with that, you know, instead of doing all this stuff last minute."
"Why would you say it's last minute?" he objected.
"Why else would you be doing it now?" I rolled my eyes, placing another file in the finished pile.
"To help pass the time," he shrugged.
"Yeah because everyone does boring paperwork to pass the time," I snorted. "You and paperwork is like Kankuro and steady girlfriends, they only coincide once in a blue moon."
He shook his head amused as he pushed another pile towards me. I groaned. "Besides, I heard Temari yelling at you a couple days ago that if you didn't hurry the hell up and finish the papers she gave you, she would kick your ass. And now you're going through all the paperwork to try and find the ones that she gave you."
"Your powers of deduction never cease to amaze me," he muttered, leaning back in his chair. "There's something wrong…"
"What's up?" I asked, watching as he stretched his neck to look out the window before shaking his head and returning to his paperwork.
"Nothing important," he replied, picking up his pen.
"IF you say so," I sighed, following suit. "Can you light a couple candles? It's getting…kinda…dark in here…" I trailed off, looking out the window at the setting sun. "Oh~ Gaara, look! It's pretty!"
"I thought you wanted to finish the paperwork before nightfall," he replied.
"Come on, Gaara, just look!" I demanded, pulling him out of his chair. He stood next to me as we watched the sunset before he started to laugh. At least I hope he was laughing because it's either that or he was choking so… "Gaara? Are you…aright?"
He shook his head and took a deep breath. "How someone like you was ever a member of the Akatsuki, I'll never understand," he said.
"What do you mean 'someone like me'?" I demanded, placing my hands on my hips like Temari does when she gets insulted.
"It's just," he shook his head. "You're so…childish…"
"Am not!" I replied before something caught my eye. "What's that?" I asked, pointing to something in the sky.
He squinted to get a better look. "It looks like…a bird," he replied.
"I've never seen one like that here," I said. "Are there any like that around here?"
He shook his head, immediately becoming rigid. "Let's go," he commanded, opening the window and jumping from the sill to get to the roof. I followed after him, keeping a watchful eye for any threats. The bird flew overhead and a person jumped from it, landing on the roof of the Kazekage's office building a few feet in front of us. I immediately recognized the cloak as belonging to the Akatsuki.
"Infiltration success," the person smirked before looking up and noticing the two of us standing over him.
Gaara inclined his head, stating, "That's as far as you go."
The man, his voice was obviously too masculine to be a female's despite his feminine looks, smirked. "Oh?" he pulled back one side of his cloak, sliding his hand in a pack around his waist before jumping into the air and landing back on the bird, Gaara's sand chasing after him.
I reached for my communicator, pressing the button, "This is Kei, calling Baki," I stated, listening to the static.
"This is Baki, what is it, Kei?" he replied.
"The Akatsuki have made their move," I said. "I need backup up here so that I can go after him."
"Your first priority is Gaara's safety," he said. "You made an oath."
"And his first priority is the safety of the village," I rebuked him. "Which makes that my first priority too."
"You stay there until I get there with backup," he growled.
"Then get here fast. Kei, over." I stood silent as I watched Gaara use his sand to pursue the intruder. "Is there anything I can help you with?" I asked.
"I'm fine," he grunted, moving his hands to form a platform of sand before jumping on it, taking off after the blonde man.
"Crap!" I exclaimed, pressing the button on my communicator once more. "This is Kei. Baki, Gaara's in pursuit, I'm going after him." after I released the button, I jumped onto the trail of sand left behind and ran to join Gaara on the platform.
"What are you doing?" he demanded, staring up at the man on the bird.
"Obviously I'm here to protect you," I replied.
"It's dangerous," he said. "I'm supposed to be the one to protect you and all the other villagers."
"You don't have to carry the world on your shoulders," I told him. "I'm here to help. Anything you need, I'll get you. it's what I do best."
The bird flew level to us, and the man called to Gaara, "I gotta say, you noticed me pretty quickly."
"Birds like that don't exist in this desert," Gaara replied.
"Not to mention, you weren't exactly being that nonchalant about infiltrating our village," I added.
"I see," he smirked, holding up his arm in front of his face where it looked like there was a mouth on the palm of his hand, chewing.
My eyes widened as I realized who this was. "Oh Jashin-sama," I gasped, staring at him.
"What is it?" Gaara replied.
"This can't be happening," I wheezed, taking a small step back, shaking my head.
"What's wrong?" Gaara repeated.
"I can't believe it," I said, gasping for breath. "That's Deidara."
I am so sorry this is a super short chapter! I really am, but I'm tired and wanted to finish it tonight or else I'd forget about it!
