I recognized them from a book I had when I was younger, with the long necks and patches. Giraffes right here in the middle of the city, and the simple beauty was astonishing.
Joel was next to me, taking in the scene. It's probably been while since he's seen them too.
It was so peaceful up here, like we could stay as long as we like and not be bothered, just watching a herd (is that what they're called?) of giraffes wander around. I could feel the knot that's been in my chest since winter start to loosen up, just a bit.
It's got its ups and downs. Winter? Definitely a down. But this? An up. But... you can't deny the view though. I said something similar, back in Boston, didn't I? With the sun rising over the buildings, Joel and Tess taking me to meet the Fireflies... and here I am.
I was almost sad when Joel sighed and pushed himself away from the wall.
AN: I really need to step my game up. At least I did it right?
