Jealousy is a very, very ugly thing.
Chapter 8
It was one thing seeing your boyfriend talking to a woman that is attractive…it's another thing seeing him talking to an attractive woman that he once dated...and loved. She was even more beautiful now then she was back then. Her hair was a different color but it suited her. She kept grinning and laughing at everything he said…and it broke Elena, just like all those years ago.
She stepped over the threshold and gazed around. The apartment didn't have much potential, but it was kind of warm. There wasn't much furniture, just a round kitchen table with two chairs, a small couch with a coffee table and a plasma TV, oh and he had curtains on his windows which kind of made the place a little bit decorative.
"I know it's not much but at least I have my own space." Damon said as he walked in from behind her placing her school bag onto the floor next to the couch.
"I like it." Elena declared. She walked further into the room and gazed around. "Do you know what you're missing?"
"You?" Damon suggested as he came up from behind her wrapping his arms around her waist.
"No," Elena said through a small smile. "Photos. You need some photos of your family."
"I have photos of my family, I just don't stick them around the apartment."
"Well, you should." Elena said smiling up at him. "Oh and you should show me some." He was about to protest but she pouted so adorably. "Pleaseeee!"
"Elenaaa!" Damon groaned.
"Pleaseeee!" She wined like a small child.
Damon rolled his eyes. "Do you ever not get what you want?"
She batted her eyelashes before saying in a sweet voice. "I usually get what I want from you."
"Hmmm…that's a bad thing."
"Pleaseeee!"
"Fine." He rolled his eyes. "But you have to promise not to laugh at me. I had long hair when I was a child…it was the way my mother liked it."
"Oh my god! Baby photos! You must have been so cute!" She squealed clapping her hands.
"I'm going to change my mind." Damon warned her. She straightened her face up immediately and stood next to him patiently. Damon rolled his eyes before turning around and heading to the bedroom. She was right on his heel. From the top shelf he took out a photo album , just as he turned around Elena snatched it from him. She hugged the album closely to her chest and ran off into the living room. Damon followed after her shaking his head and chuckling. She placed her little ass on the couch and opened the album ready to look. "Oh my god, you were adorable!" She declared.
Damon rolled his eyes as he came to sit next to her. He glanced at the photo of him sitting on a bed with a big white teddy bear next to him. "I look like Tarzan."
"Don't be silly, you look cute." She smiled as she flipped the page. She paid extra attention to every photo and commented on how cute he was. Damon stood up to get her a drink while she flipped through the album on her own. As she turned another page she was met with a photo of Damon and a girl that he was kissing on the cheek from behind. She had a huge grin on her face.
"-want apple or orange juice?" She heard him ask.
"Um…whatever." She answered staring at the photo. She flipped another page and there she was again kissing Damon on the lips this time. As she stared at the photo she felt the couch next to her dip. As she looked up she saw Damon staring at the photo. She looked back down at it before looking back up at him. "Who is she?"
"A nobody." He answered as he took the photo album out of her lap and pulled the picture out of its place. He scrunched it up in his hand and stood up carrying it to the trash. Elena didn't say a word as she watched him. He then returned and took a seat next to her. She stared at him; she couldn't stop herself from asking. "Did you love her?"
He looked up into her eyes. "Yes, but not the way I love you." He answered before taking her small hand. "I have a past, Elena, but you're my future."
She nodded her head. "I know that, but you never talk about your past."
"There is not much to say."
"How about why you broke up?' Elena suggested.
He swallowed thickly. "She's cheated on me. End of story."
Elena stared at him not knowing what to say. Okay, she wasn't expecting to hear that. Honestly, she couldn't even believe it. Why in god's name would she cheat on a man like Damon? He was perfect. Elena just couldn't understand it which made her want to know more, but she stopped herself from asking questions because she could tell that this was a painful subject for him.
He turned to her with a smile on his beautiful face, the pain completely gone, as he asked. "So, when am I going to get a chance to see some baby photos?"
She stared at her perfect face wanting nothing more than to ruin it. She felt Melinda tug her arm gently saying something, but Elena was in a trance, she couldn't focus on anything other than the woman that was talking to Her Damon. How can he talk to after everything that she had done to him? Why was he even talking to her in the first place? How did he find her? She wanted to stomp over there and grab the bitch by her hair and drag her outside. She knew that she couldn't of course, one reason was because Matt would freak out and the other was simple because she didn't want to sink that low and give her the satisfaction of playing the victim.
"Mummy!" Melinda yelled punching Elena's hand. The little girl was frustrated with her mother ignoring her.
"What?" Elena turned to her.
"Can we go to MacDonald's? I want some-" Elena cut her off.
"No, we're going home." She said before grabbing Melinda's hand. "Let's go get your father." She hissed in an annoyed voice. As she approached Damon and Katie she saw the confused look on the girls face.
"Hi." Elena smiled at her through clenched teeth before turning to Damon. "Let's go home." She almost hissed.
He looked nervous as he glanced at Katie then at Elena. "Um…yeah, I thought you were going to meet us at the house."
"I thought I'd pick you up and my daughter on the way from the hospital. I didn't know you had company." She glanced over at Katie with a stern look.
Damon answered nervously. "Um…yeah a…Elena, this is…this is Katie, my old friend." He introduced awkwardly. "Um Katie, this is Elena…she's aa…she's-"
"I'm Melinda's mother." Elena said as she looked him in the eyes. Bastard. He couldn't even say it. She wanted to punch him right now.
"Mommy, is granny okay?" Melinda asked breaking the tension.
"Yeah, she's fine." Elena answered as she still stared Damon down. "She's waiting in the car." She turned to Melinda and added. "We better go honey." She then turned her attention back to Damon. "I don't want to intrude. I'll just see you at home, Damon."
Damon jumped up to his feet. "No, aa…I…Katie, it was really nice to see you but-"
"No, stay, talk to your friend." Elena urged angrily.
"Elena…" He mumbled out giving her a look. It said ''don't make a scene''.
She smirked at him. "Stay, talk, Damon. After all, you have a lot of catching up to do." With that she took Melinda small hand and said. "Let's go honey, Granny's in the car waiting for us."
She didn't even glance back to see where Damon was all she did was drag the poor little girl out of the grill. Melinda was practically running beside her. As she approached the car she just opened the door for Melinda to hop in. As soon as the little girl was inside she closed the door and turned around.
Damon was approaching her. She ignored him as she walked over to the other side of the car ready to get in when he placed his hand on the door, not letting her open it. "Stop." He simply said.
"Move your hand!" She hissed.
"Elena, calm down."
"Don't you freaking tell me to calm down!" She yelled at him.
"Elena, Melinda is in the car." Damon warned her.
She squinted her eyes at him. "She was with you while you were talking to that…that bitch!"
"I can explain." Damon tried to say but she wouldn't listen.
"Don't bother. Go back in there and continue where you left off." She hissed.
"Elena I'm not going back in-" she cut him off.
"Then you're going home by foot, because I sure as hell am not going to give you a ride." With that she pushed his hand away from the car and opened it before climbing in. She glanced at him one last time before slamming the door shut and turning the key. With that her foot pushed onto the gas pedal.
"Daddy!" Melinda screamed.
"Elena, what's going on?" Miranda asked as she tried to calm Melinda.
"Nothing." Elena answered as she was about to get onto the main road.
"Daddy! Don't leave daddy!" Melinda screamed at the top of her voice.
"Elena! Turn around now!" Miranda said to her daughter when Melinda's blue eyes started to shine from tears.
Elena glanced in the review mirror to see Melinda just about to start crying. She slammed on the breaks and went into reveres. Damon was standing in the same spot, he hadn't even moved an inch. She turned off the engine before opening the door and walking out. "Get in the car, and don't you dare try to explain yourself in front of her." With that she just got back into her seat and slammed the car door shut. Damon got into the back seat with Melinda and Miranda. The little girl jumped into his lap immediately. He hugged her to his chest and placed a soft kiss to her head. Miranda didn't comment, she just glanced at Damon and said a casual hello.
Damon carried Melinda out of the car, she was clutching to him like is would disappear any second. She buried her small head in his chest as she whispered. "Don't go anywhere daddy."
"Hey, angel, I'm not going anywhere." Damon smiled down at her scared face, it seemed to soothe her and she reluctantly let go of the fear a little. "It's okay, I'm not going to go anywhere, mummy's just a little man at me, that's all."
"Why? What did you do?" Melinda asked.
"Honestly honey, I have no idea how your mothers mind works sometimes. I need to talk to her so why don't you go and cheek up on floppy and granny Miranda?"
She stared at him; he could see the insecurity in her eyes. "Hey, I'm not going anywhere, I promise."
"….okay…" She whispered as he placed her down onto the floor. Melinda headed off to find her puppy while Damon headed right into the kitchen where Elena had taken off. As soon as he walked into the kitchen he found her next to the kitchen sink washing the dishes. He walked up behind her and turned off the tap. She just turned it back on without so much as taking a glance up at him. Damon turned it off again. She turned it on again, still without looking at him. He decided to not let her ignore him, he turned it off again and kept his hand on the handle so that she couldn't turn it on again. "We need to talk."
"I don't feel like talking, so get out of the way." She hissed as she tried to push his hand away.
"To bad, because we are going to talk about this."
"Why?!" She practically yelled at him. "Because you say so? Every time Damon Salvatore says something it has to be his way!"
"No, it's because we need to have this conversation." He tried to explain.
"Says who?"
"Me."
"Of course, because when you want something you usually get it!" She hissed pushing him back and making a move to walk away but Damon wouldn't let her. He grabbed her hand and spun her around.
"Stop acting like you're an 18 year old girl, Elena."
She stared him right in the eyes. "You bastard!" She hissed. "I have been doing everything I can to keep sane while you were gone! I have practically had to grow up, even if I didn't want to! I had to take care of that girl while you were…" She stopped herself before saying it.
Damon let go of her hand immediately and she knew that she had taken it too far. She looked up but he was already turning away, she grabbed his hand. "Stop, wait, I didn't mean-" his yanked his hand out of hers with such force that she stumbled back. He didn't even glance back, he stomped out of the room without a word and she knew that right now she had stepped over the line. She leaned against the sink, feeling tears in her eyes, the aching feeling in her stomach and the memory flashed back like it was yesterday.
She was sitting on the sofa in the living room running her hand over her pregnant belly as she waited for him to arrive home. It was nearly 12pm and he had promised to be home early tonight. She flipped through the channels on the TV in search for something to take her mind of the worry and jealousy she was begging to feel. 15 minutes passed and there was still no sign of Damon Salvatore. She stood up and walked over the kitchen table where she had left her phone. She picked it up and decided to give him a call. A big part of her was worried and the other part was freaking out because she couldn't stop herself from thinking about the other night when he had just told her to go to sleep. He didn't want to even touch her. Did he not find her attractive anymore because she was pregnant? She couldn't help but think that that was the reason for all of these late nights. He was avoiding her…avoiding spending time with her. She tried calling him 3 times, and each time it went straight to voicemail. Realizing that he wasn't about to answer she placed the phone back onto the table and headed straight to the bedroom.
She didn't pay attention to the time she just curled up on the bed under the covers and tired to fall asleep not thinking about him and where he might be. After what felt like hours, she heard the front door opening. She glanced at the clock on the night stand. 2.18 am. The lights were out, only the lamp on the nightstand was on. She closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep. She heard him enter the room almost on his tiptoes. She heard him shuffle around in the wardrobe, probably looking for his pajamas. She then heard the bathroom door open before he disappeared inside. In less than 5 minutes she heard the bathroom door open again and then she felt the lamp die. He had turned it off. She stayed as still as possible. The bed shifted as he got in beside her. She noticed that he was extra gentle not to wake her which angered her even more. He scooted over to her before wrapping his arm around her waist, resting his palm on her pregnant belly. She felt his lips gently place a soft kiss to the back of her head.
She couldn't take the tenderness he was giving her, the anger was overpowering her and the only emotion she had right now was rage towards him. She pulled away from him throwing the covers over the bed and jumping out. Damon jumped up confused and worried as well. The first thing that flashed through his mind was that something was wrong with the baby.
"Elena, baby what's wrong?" He asked as he placed his hand on her shoulder worried.
"Don't touch me!" She jerked her shoulder away from his reach. She slipped on her slippers and made a move to walk out of the room. Damon quickly jumped out of bed as well. He approached her. "Baby, what's going on? Are you mad at me?"
"I'm not mad Damon." She hissed. "I'm just going to sleep on the couch tonight." She said without a glance in his direction as she walked out of the room.
Damon followed after her. There was no way in hell that she was going to sleep on the couch, over his dead body that was going to happen. She walked over to the small couch before lying down. He walked over to her and kneeled right down beside her. "Hey…baby what's the matter?" He asked as he placed his hand on her shoulder. She was mad at him for something.
"I don't want to talk about it Damon." She hissed as she tried to turn around but he wouldn't let her.
"You're not sleeping o the couch, Elena." Damon said seriously. "Now tell me what's going through that pretty little head of yours."
"Like you care!" She hissed. "Just go to sleep."
"I'm not going to sleep until you tell me what's going on."
"Well, then you're not getting any sleep tonight because there is nothing to tell."
"Elena, come on baby, is this about me being late tonight? Look I can explain. It's not what-" She cut him off.
"I don't want to hear it! I just want to sleep peacefully!" She hissed as she turned around on the couch not able to face him anymore.
"Fine." Damon muttered before taking her into his arms bridle style.
"DAMON! PUT ME DOWN!" She demanded.
"No, you're sleeping in our bed." He said as he carried her over to the bedroom. He placed her on the left side of the bed before making a move to tuck her in, but she wouldn't let him. She sat up on the bed angrily.
"Where were you tonight?!" She demanded.
"Working."
"On what?"
"Under cover."
"And you couldn't call and let me know!"
"No, I was Ian Samuels, tonight." He explained.
She shook her head. "Where were you?"
"I told you I was working under-"
"NO! I mean where were you? Who were you with Damon!" She asked with accusing eyes.
"Richmond and I was with Rick."
"Where, Damon!"
"At a bar, Elena. At a freaking bar in Richmond. " He said in disbelief. "I was working, I didn't have a choice. I would rather be here with you, but that's my job."
"Is it also your job also to pick up girls at a bar? To flirt with them and-"
"No, I didn't pick up or flirt with any girl." He shook his head at her jealousy. "Baby, you have nothing to worry about. I love you and I-" She cut him off.
"Yeah, I bet you do. You're repulsed at the sight of me!" She hissed angrily.
"What? Where is this coming from?" Damon asked in disbelief.
"Don't try to deny it. You can barely touch me since I got pregnant." She shot back, her doe eyes teary. "You avoid coming home early because you don't want to look at me all fat!"
He bored his eyes into her teary ones. "Don't you dare say that!" Damon argued back. "You are beautiful to me. You being pregnant makes you look even cuter then you already are. Elena, baby, this is ridicules. I love you and I love this child that's growing inside of you. Hey, baby, listen to me." Damon tried to get her attention as she turned around and made a move to get out of bed.
He grabbed her hand. "You are not sleeping on the couch."
"Let go of my hand, Damon." She said in that calm voice that meant that she was really pissed off.
"Hey, where is all this insecurity coming from? Have I done something to upset you?" He asked concerned.
"The fact that you don't even know why I'm upset shows just how little you care!" She hissed.
"Hey, say anything you want to me, but don't you dare say that I don't care for you and this child!" He hissed back.
She pulled her hand out of his and made a move to walk away when she nearly tripped over the bed. Damon grabbed her in his arms and pulled her back. "I said that you are not sleeping on the couch and that's final!" He growled angrily. "You could have fallen on your stomach! You could have lost the baby, Elena!"
"Well, maybe then you wouldn't have to worry about me getting fat!" She hissed.
"HEY!" Damon yelled, his yaw getting tense. "Don't you dare say that ever again!" He yelled at her and she got scared for a second. "I love this child and I love you just the way you are. I don't know what's going through your head but don't you fucking dare say something like that to me ever again!"
The tears broke out of her eyes. "I hate that I'm not thin anymore, but I can't help it! It won't be forever!" She cried.
"Hey, are you even listening to me! YOU. ARE. PERFECT." He said each word loudly and clearly. He grabbed her head between his hands. "What has gotten into you? Why are you so insecure? Does this have to do with another one Caroline's theories? I swear to god if she has filled your head with-"
"No, Caroline doesn't know about any of this! This is how I feel. It's been over two weeks since the last time you touched me!"
Damon stared at her. This was about sex. The only reason he wasn't having sex with her was because the doctor said that she needs rest. "This is about us not having sex?"
She looked away from his face, not able to take the humiliation. "I'm pregnant, not dumb, Damon. I know when someone doesn't want me anymore."
He grabbed her small hands into his, forcing her to look at him. "You think I don't want you? Is that it?" When she didn't answer he spoke up. "Oh you have no idea how much I want you."
"Then show me!"
"You're pregnant, Elena, and you know what the doctor said. You need to rest."
"I need to be with you." She argued.
"Elena, baby, this is not the time for us to fool around. You have to be careful with the baby."
"Stop using the baby as an excuse Damon! I know what is tiring me out and it sure as hell isn't an hour of slow sex with my boyfriend. You just don't want me anymore. You find me disgusting, just admit it!"
He stared at her face. His blue eyes scanning her face all over. He didn't say a single word, he just placed his hands on her face before leaning in and taking her into a passionate kiss. Elena first welcomed the kiss but she couldn't continue, she was to mad at him. She pushed him back. Anger was evident on her face. "You think you can just booty call me in the middle of the night!" She hissed.
Damon huffed. "Weren't you just complaining about the fact that I wasn't giving you enough attention?" He really didn't understand how the female mind worked sometimes.
"This has been going on for two weeks, Damon! I have felt neglected for the last two weeks, but I am not about to just have sex with you because you feel sorry for me! And not to mention the fact that you have been out the entire night doing god knows what in Richmond!"
"Are you seriously going to bring that up again? Elena, you're acting childish and you know it!"
"Great, now I'm childish! Just perfect Damon. Why don't you try and put me down even more!" She hissed, tears streaming down her face.
"Hey, I am not trying to put you down, Elena! Damn it! I am trying to do everything right by you and this child." He tired to reason with her as he wiped her tears. It broke his heart when she cried. He never wanted to see a single tear drop down her soft cheek. She was the most precious possession he had.
"Then be honest with me, and tell me what happened tonight."
Damon rolled his eyes. "Nothing happened. I told you, I went to Richmond with Rick. We had to track this guy down who was dealing drugs. I had backup on speed dial, Elena. I didn't have time to mess around. When I go undercover I'm not the same person. I'm not Damon, I'm a different guy."
"Yeah, I know that, and that gives you the right to flirt and look at other girls."
"Oh for the love of fucking god, I really hope this has something to do with your hormones because this is just a bunch of crap."
"Now my hormones are the problem!" She yelled angrily.
"Nooo, that's not what I meant." Damon quickly tried to calm her down but it didn't work. She had already pulled away from him and was making a move to head out the bedroom. Damon followed after her. "If you try to lie down on that couch I'll just take you straight back to our bedroom."
"I'm not sleeping with you tonight!" She screamed angrily.
"Fine, I'll sleep on the couch." He said as he turned around and headed into the bedroom. He grabbed the pillow from the bed before opening the cupboard and taking out the spare blanket. He carried the blanket and pillow into the living room where she was standing angrily. He placed the pillow onto the couch and the blanket before turning to her. "Now go back to bed."
She stared at him at first before turning around angrily and heading off into the bedroom. Damon heard the bedroom door bang loudly. She was really pissed at him. He sat down onto the couch and ran his hand over his face trying to figure everything out. He specifically avoided having sex with her because the doctor had said that she shouldn't engage into physical activities. Well, sex was pretty physical. He thought he was doing the right thing, for her and for the baby, but now it looks like he was doing more harm than good. Damon lied back down onto the couch closing his eyes. After a night of chasing a dead end he was hoping to just relax and cuddle with his girl, but no, she kicked him out of the bedroom sort of…okay he left on his own, but still he didn't want to be here. He wanted to be next to her, to hold her and to maybe get a chance to feel his little one kick, but no, she already kicked him out. He pulled the blanket over his body and tried to fall asleep. He didn't keep track of time but after a while he heard the bedroom door open. Elena came into the living room. She stopped right in front of him in her night gown, her round belly showing. It was beautiful to Damon, not repulsive like she had said.
"Come on, you're not sleeping on that couch." Elena said to him, her gaze was fixed on him and she was still pissed.
"You're letting me back into the bedroom?" Damon asked.
"I didn't kick you out in the first place; you left on your own." She pointed out.
He pushed up into a seating position before looking up at her. "Are we going to talk about this?"
"No, I want to get some sleep. You can sleep in the bed but don't touch me."
"Elena, you're my girlfriend. We're living together and I want to be with you." He stood up placing both of his arms on her shoulders. "Don't pull away from me, baby."
"I need time Damon."
"For what?"
"For everything that is happening right now."
"I don't understand where all of this insecurity is coming from." Damon said to her.
"I'm pregnant Damon." She hissed. "I'm pregnant because of you. I wouldn't be pregnant and in this position if we didn't have sex on December the 5!" She yelled. "It was a night where you wouldn't keep your hands to yourself because I looked pretty and the only thing you could think about was fucking me!" She yelled.
Damon stood in front of her shocked. She didn't use that kind of language, she didn't swear, she was a good girl, but he could tell that everything just went flying out the window. He stood in front of her like a statue, not knowing what to say. He was just about to open his mouth when she continued. "Back then I didn't have a bump on my stomach and you didn't have to worry about responsibilities, but every problem in your life right now is linked to me! Just admit it! It would be way better if I had never gotten pregna-"
"ENOUGH!" Damon raised his voice and she stepped back frightened. His eyes weren't the color of the ocean anymore, they were dark blue. His yaw started to shake as he said to her. "If you are regretting any of this then we have a big problem, but don't you dare accuse me of not want that child that's growing inside of you! I love it more than anything on this earth. If you see this as a mistake fine, then it's my mistake. As soon as the baby is born you can give it to me and then you can go and do whatever the hell you want with your life!" He hissed.
She gasped…her mouth open. He had never said anything like this to her ever. If anything he was supportive ever since he found out about the pregnancy. She closed her trembling mouth before tears started to stream out of her eyes. She shook her head. "You can't take it away from me!" She yelled.
"I'm not trying to!" He yelled back. "All I'm saying is that you are projecting every problem that we have onto the pregnancy."
"I love this baby, you idiot!" She yelled at him. "I love it even more because it's yours! I love you more than anything! How can you say something like that to me?!" She demanded.
"How can you accuse me of not loving you when I would do anything for you, Elena, and you know that!" He didn't give her time to answer he grabbed her into his arms and kissed her forcefully. His lips on top of hers were so soft and tender that she couldn't pull away. He picked her up by here little ass and she wrapped her arms around his neck, he could feel her belly pressing into his torso as he carried her to their bedroom.
He lowered her down onto the mattress gently before saying. "I'm only going to say this once Lena. You better remember it because the only other time I'm going to repeat it is on my death bed. You are my life, beautiful."
She felt tears in her eyes as she remembered that night. The night she had fought with him like never before and that same night he convinced her that everything was going to be okay. She lived by those words all these years while he was gone. She dreamt about that night many times before, but now he didn't try to reason with her, he just took off. He didn't try to convince her that she was wrong, he just pulled away.
"Elena honey, are you okay?" Alyssa asked as she approached her. The girl looked pale.
"I love him." She whispered as she crumbled down to the floor, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"What's wrong? Sweetie what's the matter?" Alyssa asked panicked as she kneeled down next to her.
Elena shook her head, fear in her eyes as she whispered. "I don't won't to lose him."
"Who? Damon?" Elena nodded her head. "No, honey, don't even think that. He loves you." Alyssa smiled at her as she wiped the teas that were streaming down her face. "Don't even think that sweetie. My son loves you very much. You have Melinda to take care of together. Don't think like that."
Elena shook her head as she whispered. "He was…he was talking to Katie."
Alyssa's eyes widened when she heard the words out of Elena's mouth. "Katie…as in-" She didn't finish the sentence because Elena only nodded her head.
"I saw them at the grill together." She sniffled. "He looked so happy with her…and she was so beautiful."
Alyssa stared, her mouth open. She had always worried about Damon taking the deep end when it came to that woman, she was the devil. "What-what did you see?" Alyssa asked, scared of the answer.
Elena took a deep breath. "They were just talking but that's not what got to me it's the fact that he hasn't smiled like that with me since he came home from prison."
"I'm sure nothing happened, sweetie." Alyssa tried to reassure her, but the woman wasn't so convinced herself.
"He was looking after Melinda…"She whispered before fresh tears streamed down her cheeks. "He was supposed to be looking after our daughter." She sniffled. "He introduced her to Katie." Alyssa gasped. Elena sniffled. "My daughter pointed in the direction where her father was sitting with his…" She couldn't finish the sentence.
Alyssa took Elena into her arms. Tears streaming down her face as well as Elena's. "Shhh, honey…you're going to be okay." Alyssa rocked her gently.
"Please don't say anything to my mum, she'll kill him."
"She won't have to, I will." Alyssa promised.
"So do I put on this dress?" Damon asked holding up the pink sparkly piece of material.
"No, I like the yellow one. Princess Tiana never wears pink! That's for Bella, daddy." Melinda explained.
"Okay, so it's yellow then." Damon murmured as he stared pulling the dress onto the doll.
"When we get them dressed up, we can go the castle and then they can meet their princes." Melinda explained.
"Sure." Damon smiled at her happy face. She was the only thing good in his life right now. He couldn't believe that Elena had used prison against him. She was the last person on earth who he expected to hear that from. It crushed him into a million pieces. Yeah, he had maybe crossed the line when he told her that she was acting childish but he didn't anticipate her comeback to be so harsh.
Damon knew very well that she was very jealous; he had learned that a long time ago, but he never thought that she would act this way. The fact that she was ready to drive off with his daughter in the back seat watching scared him. She was never like that before. She had been jealous many times but she had never taken it this far.
"We're ready daddy!" Melinda squealed standing up and carrying the dolly to the castle.
Damon stood up and followed her over to the castle that was way smaller for the dolls, but the interesting thing was that his angel knew how to improvise. She grabbed the dollies and started to poke their heads into the castle before taking them back and then bringing their princes form behind the castle. She was so smart.
Damon didn't notice when his mother walked into the room. She cleared her throat to get his attention. He turned his attention away from Melinda to his mother. "Isn't she adorable?" He smiled nodding his head in Melinda's direction.
Alyssa glanced at the little girl before turning back to him. "We need to talk, Damon." She said his name with such authority that it scared him. She was either mad at him or at someone who was involved with something to do with him.
"Okay, what is it?" Damon asked concerned.
"Not here." She glanced at Melinda. "Follow me." She instructed him with authority that he knew there was no getting out of this. Damon followed her out of Melinda's room and into her room.
Once they were inside the room and Damon had closed the door. Alyssa turned around to face her son. "What are you doing, Damon?"
"Errr…I'm not quite following mum." Damon smiled at her innocently.
"Don't play dumb about this. You are not 18 anymore!" She hissed.
Damon glared at his mother offended that she would accuse him of acting like an 18 year old, but then again he had accused Elena less than an hour ago. "What are you talking about mum?"
"How dare you!" Alyssa hissed walking right up to him as she pointed her finger. "Sneaking around with the devil while you have that beautiful girl that loves you so much! Dear god, Damon, what's has gotten into you!"
It suddenly hit Damon. She had only called one person ''the devil'' and that was Katie. "First of all I am not sneaking around with ''the devil'' as you like to call her, and secondly I was at-" She cut him off.
"NOW YOU'RE DEFENDING HER!"
"Mum!" Damon through his arms up in the air. "Whatever Elena told you, I'm sure she exaggerated. I would never go back to Katie."
"Then what business do you have with her!" Alyssa demanded.
"She was just at the grill, passing through town, and she wanted to apologize for what happened between us 8 years ago."
"You mean how she broke your heart?!"
"Yes, and I thinks it's time I finally forgave her."
"Oh dear lord!" Alyssa cried and Damon rolled his eyes. His mother could be so dramatic. "She's got her claws into you already!"
"What?"
"Don't you see? Oh dear god, Damon, she's trying to weasel her way back into your life!"
Damon laughed which earned his a glare from Alyssa. "Mum, listen. Nothing I going to happen with Katie, she's engaged."
Alyssa opened her mouth ready to scold him, but then she gasped and closed it like a fish on dry land.
Damon smirked. "The devil is engaged to another man, you don't have to worry about me."
Alyssa shook his head. "If she's engaged, why isn't she running around town with her betrothed?"
"I don't know, I didn't get a chance to ask who the guy was."
"It's such a shame that Elena ruined your fun!" She hissed with accusing eyes.
"I can't believe she told you about all this." Damon muttered.
"Damn right she told me! What were you thinking even talking to her, Damon, while you were looking after your love child?"
Damon groaned. "My love child, seriously mum?"
"What, are you denying the fact that you didn't conceive Melinda while you were both-" She was cut off by Damon.
"NO, NO, NO! Don't say it! Eww!"
"What now you find it disgusting when I talk about how much you cared and desired that girl!"
"No, I just don't want to hear that sort of stuff from my mother. It's disgusting!" Damon stated appalled.
Alyssa took a deep breath. "Honey, don't let this woman come between the two of you. You are made for each other."
"No one is going to come between us, only Elena's jealousy can come between us."
"Oh honey, when a woman is jealous it only means that she loves you so much."
"It's a distraction of a relationship."
"Don't be silly, she's not a crazy jealous person, Damon. She has every right to be jealous when it comes to the devil."
"Can you please stop calling her the devil? As for Elena, she should know by now that there is no one else in my life but her. We shouldn't have trust issues after almost 7 years."
"Then maybe you should-" Alyssa was cut off by the door bell.
"I'll go get that." Damon said quickly. It was his best way of getting away from this unwanted conversation, besides it was probably Rick. They talked yesterday and Rick said he was going to bring some evidence over for Damon to check out.
"Wait, Damon!" Alyssa called after him.
"Mum, that's probably Rick, I can't talk now. We'll talk later."
"But-" She was cut off by the door bell again.
"DONG-DONG DING-DONG"
"I'm coming!" Damon yelled as he made his way down stairs. The guy was so inpatient. "Jesus." Damon muttered as he swung the door open.
In front of him was standing a girl. She had wavy black hair that looked like it wasn't washed in days and piercing blue eyes that were staring at him. She had a handbag in one hand and she was holding a suitcase in the other.
"Umm…excuse me, who are you?" The girl asked.
"Who are you?" Damon asked back staring at her.
"I'm…I'm a friend of Stefan's." The girl answered as she eyed Damon. "It's your turn now."
"I'm Damon, Stefan's brother." Damon answered looking her up and down. She looked tired.
"Can I come in?" The girl asked.
"Errr…Stefan's not here at the moment."
"Okay…can I wait for him?"
Damon stared at her not knowing what to say. " What do you say I take a message and when Stefan arrives home I'll let him know that you stopped by. Then you two can-" She cut him off.
"Please, just let me wait for him." She begged, her eyes getting teary.
Damon contemplated the idea before swinging the door open. "Sure."
"Thank you." She smiled at him gratefully before pulling her suitcase inside. She struggled with it so much that it made Damon question how she carried the damn thing to the door.
"Do you want me to give you a hand?" He offered.
"No, I'm fine." She smiled as she continued to drag the thing through the house. Damon was surprised to find out that she knew her way around. When she had placed the suitcase under the staircase she turned to face Damon awkwardly.
"Are you traveling or something?"
"Something like that." She muttered a little shy. She was awfully young in his opinion.
"Do you want to wait in the living room?" Damon offered.
"Are you home alone?" She asked as she looked around the house.
"No, why?"
"No reason." She smiled before taking off for the living room. Damon followed after her.
She took a seat on the sofa looking around. "When will Stefan back?"
"Honestly I don't know."
"Where did he go?"
"No idea." Damon answered annoyed. The last thing he wanted to do right now was entertain one of Stefan's friends. He wanted to be with his little daughter. "Would you like a drink?"
"Um…sure." She nodded her head.
Damon headed into the kitchen and poured her a glass of orange juice before heading back into the living room.
He handed her the glass and she took it. "Thank you." She smiled before taking a big sip. Damon watched as she dawn the entire glass of juice in less than a minute. He was just about to ask her if she wanted another glass when the front door was heard. Damon looked at the girl before yelling.
"Stefan?"
"Yeah, it's me." The younger Salvatore answered.
"Good, you've got a guest!" Damon called out.
Stefan walked into the living room rummaging through his briefcase. "What guest are you talking about, broth-" he stopped talking when he looked up and found blue eyes staring back at him. He stopped in his tracks, the papers from his briefcase fell to the ground, and he just stared at her like a statue. Damon looked from the girl to his brother, but neither one of them seemed to notice. The girl stood up, a little afraid, Damon could tell.
"Stefan…" She whispered as she took a step closer to him.
Damon watched as Stefan's face became pail as he asked. "April…what are you doing here?"
Okay, I know it's short but it's the best I can do now with all university stuff I have going on. What do you think about this chapter? Do you like it? Did Elena take it over board when she tried to drive off with Melinda in the back seat? Are you sad for Damon getting scolded by Elena or do you think Elena has the right to scold him? What do you think about the flashbacks? Do you like them? What do you think about this new girl, April? Is she good or bad? Anything that pops into your mind, please tell me by REVIEWING!
Just to clear one thing up, Katie is Damon's ex girlfriend. She's just Katie, she's not Katherine. Katherine on the other hand is his half sister who lives with Damon's dad.
I know my stories are developing really slow but I've really got a lot of stuff going on right now so just bear with me and I'll update as soon as I can.
