Chapter. 9
Zane arrived at the guild building bright and early, the inside of the place seemed more like a clubhouse. None of the members seemed to pay Zane any mind as he walked by them and headed to his uncle's office.
"I'm here guild master." Zane looked around the room. There was a lot of hunting trophies on the walls and shelfes. Large windows that overlooked the sea and a big desk in the corner.
"Close the door behind you." Agil ordered.
"What's up?" Zane did as told and took a seat.
"How have you and Ivy been Zane?"
"What do you care."
"Zane don't be like that."
"Why not?! You know damn well why I hate you." Zane folded his arms and leaned back in his seat. "What is this about?"
"I want to know what your plans are for that zinogre, you know it's not going to stay that small forever."
Zane knew this was going to happen but he thought there was more time. "Yes I know, when that time comes I'll make a side house for Fenrir to sleep in. I plan to continue hunting with Fenrir, the bigger he gets the better."
"Are you sure you can handle this responsibility? It's not going to get easier."
"What would have me do then, send him out on his own? Fenrir would die with in a day."
Agil rubbedhis eyes. "Listen, your secret pet isn't as well hidden as you my like to think."
"And? I never said I was going to hide him. A little girl came up to Fenrir and played with him."
"You let a child near a monster?!"
"Calm down. I was right there beside them, the people watching liked it and thought it was sweet." Zane put his arms out to stretch.
"Never the less, some people have come to the guild to speak to me about your zinogre and ask why it's walking around so freely."
"People or you?"
"That's not the point."
"No it is the point!" Zane got up to leave. "I'm not going to give up on him."
"Well and good but remember one thing. You are a hunter, one day you'll be assighed to kill a zinogre. What will you do then?"
"I'll cross that when it happens. You'll see, Fenrir and I are gonna change everything. Now all monsters are evil and need to die."
Agil shook his head. "You sound just like your mother."
Zane turned back to his uncle. "What would you know! You let your own sister die, left me and Ivy with nothing!" Zane threw open the door and stormed out.
Outside just stomped onward, not caring were he was going till he bumped into someone. "Sorry."
"No I was, oh hi Zane." Replied Celes. "What'cha doing?"
"Just telling off my uncle, he's trying to make me abandon Fenrir. What are you up too?"
The girl show him a half full bag of letters and small packages. "Just doing a little work for the family business."
"Good to knowvyou keep busy."
"You doing anything right now?"
"Nope." Celes cheerfully took Zane's hand and dragged him along.
...
Half an hour later the two were on their way to the final stop. "It seems like he's conserned about your well being." Replied Celes.
"The guy is an ass that only cares about his position, he didn't do anything when Ivy came to him for help." The teen boy exhaled slowly. "Enough on that, let's talk about something else."
"Like?"
"You never told me why you wanted to became a hunter."
"You never asked."
"I am now."
Celes stopped walking, putting her hand on her chin to think. "Where to start. Mainly I didn't want to go into the family business, the sense of adventure drew me in too."
The pair arrived at their destination, Zane waited by the street while Celes went inside the building. As Zane took in the senery he noticed a hooded figure peeking around the corner, vanishing as quickly as he saw them
Zane remembered the figure from the crowd. He was about to go after them till he heard Celes call out to him.
"All done, thanks for walking with me today."
"Yeah, it was nice to do something simple. I'll walk you home."
"Well aren't you a gentleman."
Zane lightly shoved his firend. "You make it sound like I'm a barbarian."
...
Sometime later the hunters arrived at Celes home. "Thank you for today Zane." Celes stepped closer to hug Zane.
"My pleasure Celes, I'll see you tomorrow okay."
"Yeah." Celes leaned closer to Zane, kissing his cheek. "Forget about your uncle, you did the right thing. Only a heartless basterd would leave a helpless animal to die."
"Ivy tried to kill him when they met, now she's helping to raise him."
"I don't know Ivy as well as you, but I don't think she would have gone through with it. Your sister doesn't strike me as the heartless type."
"She trys to look it but your right. Anyway, later Celes." Zane hug his friend and headed home.
...
"I'm back." Zane announced.
"Finally, what did uncle Agil want?" Zane check the den to find his sister on the couch, with Fenrir in her lap.
"Pointless nonsense. So, you and Fenrir are getting along."
"Rough going at first, had to get him to stop licking my face to start. What are you grinning about?"
"Took over a month but I'm glad to see you somewhat back to your old self."
"Don't get uses to it little brother." Fenrir got off of Ivy and tackled Zane. "Now that your back, you watch him. I need a shower."
Zane pushed Fenrir off himself to stand. "Hey Ivy, I think someone was fallowing me today."
"What?" Zane explained what happened earlier that day and the time before that. When he was finished Ivy looked concerned. "I think someone doesn't like Fenrir, next time you see this person report to the guild."
"I guess what I was afraid of might be happening."
"We don't know anything yet, that's why you should be careful from now on." Ivy put her arms around her brother, holding him close. "I love you block head, you know that right Zane?"
"Who you calling block head?"
"Just don't go off on your own for the time being, understood?"
"Yes sis, I hear you."
"You sure?" Ivy stepped back looking at Fenrir. "The last I said to do something safe you broight home a lost zinogre pup."
