Beast Boy woke up to an annoying buzzing sound. He swished his hands over his face, trying to shoo whatever it was away, but it persisted. Finally he opened his eyes and saw a wooden ceiling. He was quite comfortable on what he assumed was a bed, but the buzzing sound was the most interesting by far.

"Navi?" the tinkling little ball of light was dancing around his head; a fairy, the infamous Navi.

Yes, wake up you lazy boy! Somehow the tinkles translated themselves in his head, and Beast Boy grinned wider than ever before. Leaping out of bed he cried out in joy, "OOT! I'm home!"

He looked around, grin splitting his face, drinking in the environment. It was different than he remembered, oddly clear. It's amazing how much different circles are from octagons , he could actually see details here.

Hey, Listen, Navi tinkled in his ear. Beast Boy looked over at the fairy, suddenly recalling a deep hatred for her.

"Yeah, I know, the Great Deku Tree wants to see me." Beast Boy shrugged off the fairy's indignant chirp, pulling on his green cap. His clothes looked strange, being almost the same shade as his skin.

Beast Boy trotted outside and slid down his tree home's ladder before the girl below could speak. He straightened his tunic after he landed, and launched a gigantic hug at the other.

She squeaked in surprise, but Beast Boy didn't stay long, "Hi Sari, good to see you, I have a fairy now, the Great Deku Tree wants to see me, talk later, bye!"

He left Sari looking rather confused, Navi apologizing for his rudeness. Beast Boy stepped forward and took in a deep breath, marvelling at the taste of the air. He couldn't morph, but his body retained its heightened senses; he could hear, smell, and taste the forest and it was magical.

Beast Boy took off, running through the village, ignoring the exclamations of fellow Kokiri as he hopped across the pond stones. He gaped excitedly at every tree hut, petting any animal that dared to come close.

The animals surprised him; in the game the forest was empty. Here though, there were squirrels of every colour imaginable, cats, raccoons, birds of many shapes and hues; it was like Animal Planet had been condensed into this one clearing. And they were friendly, mingling with the Kokiri and each other without any fear. He finally knelt in the grass, overwhelmed by the sheer amount of life; the forest truly was magical.

A tinkle by his ear brought him back, Hey, what's wrong?

A tear slid from his eye unnoticed, and he smiled, "I'm home…"

Raven tugged at her dress, the ornate covering overly heavy and pink. She had woken up at a dinner table, completely lost and disoriented. Older people in fine medieval dress sat about the table, talking in pompous tones about the state of the kingdom.

It reminded her of her childhood.

She looked around discreetly, keeping her face downturned. The architecture didn't seem at all familiar, despite her initial sense of déjà-vu. Stranger still, she noticed a number of humanoids in the room, also dressed in royal garb. There were amphibious people with pale blue skin and manta-shaped heads. A number of long fins protruded from their limbs, glistening with moisture.

There were a number of tall woman as well, boasting forest green skin. They wore an obscene amount of gold jewellery, and had florescent makeup accenting their already severe features. Even those Raven had initially taken for humans actually had pointed ears, often adorned with jewelled rings.

Two giant creatures sat alone in one corner, hulking brown masses. They had rough skin that looked like rock, and round faces with tiny blue eyes. These wore only loincloths, and spoke to each other in hushed tones, clearly wary of the others in the room.

Raven took note of guards lining the room, evenly spaced between tall stained windows. They were all human (except for the ears), but Raven could see through the windows a number of the other races standing about in various armour fittings.

From the snippets of conversations she heard, Raven gathered that this was some sort of annual talks between the 'kingdoms', divided by race as far as she could tell. Raven felt her arms, trying to be inconspicuous, trying to figure out which group she belonged to. Her skin was fair still, no gills, no scales, no green. A quick touch to her ear revealed a sharp point at its top.

She let out a breath, calming herself; this land, presumably a video game, was feudal, that much was clear. If she was present here, that meant she was a member of the ruling class, likely the human group.

Most of the officials in the room were older than her, as far as she could tell. Meaning she, or the character Raven now was playing, was likely a daughter if one of these dignitaries. She could see only one other youth at the table, a small fish creature with thick eyelashes. She appeared to be royalty, with all of the space she was given and the air with which people addressed her.

As Raven thought about that, she realized her own place was isolated, in a respectful fashion. Running her hand over her head, she found a tiara over a fabric hair cover. Well, in that case she probably was royalty as well. The thought set her teeth on edge.

The arched doors at the far end of the room finally opened, causing a hush to fall over the gathering. Violet drapes rippled as four figures emerged.

The first was an elderly man, human in appearance. He held a tall gold scepter and wore a pink and purple robe. A simple crown bearing a triangle insignia rested atop his straight white hair.

Next was a fat fish man, sporting a sheer white robe. He held a small cane of coral in one hand, and in the other a glass of green liquid. He looked like the other fish people, only exaggerated to almost comical proportions; giant head, small hands and feet, and a small crown atop the massive dome head.

The next was an old rock creature, tufts of wiry white hair poking from the pebbled skin. He, like his fellows, wore only a loin cloth, and as far as Raven could tell bore no sign of office.

Behind these all was a tall green man, face surrounded with curly red hair. His garb was armoured, contrary to his female entourage, and black as the shadows from whence they came.

But most shocking of all was the face, a face she knew…

Control Freak was there, in the armour, beneath the cape and the hair. In the suit she could barely see his fat, and only recognized him for the beady eyes glaring out. He made eye contact with her, and winked, earning a frown from the empath.

The old man spoke, "Hear ye, my good people, the talks are completed,"

The speech continued for some time, but Raven tuned it out, as she noticed a commotion outside the nearest window. A tall woman in light armour was running about, white hair flapping behind her. She looked oddly familiar…

The woman turned to the window at last, peering frantically in, and Raven gasped; it was Cyborg! And he was… A grin tugged at her lips, and she stifled laughter.

"Princess Zelda? What have you to say?"

It took a moment for Raven to realize they were speaking to her. She jumped and looked around at expectant faces.

"Umm, I don't know?" silence met her question, and a frown from the old man with the crown. Raven supposed this man was her character's father, and he had asked the question.

She glanced nervously back to Cyborg, who was pointing at Control Freak. He was mouthing something, Batman, or bat-man, or… bad man?

Raven looked back to the group and clasped her hands, memories of speech giving years ago bringing up old anxieties.

"Well, all of the points discussed were… important… but how can we trust, um, that man?"

She motioned toward Control Freak, who smiled in return. The green women glared at her, and she noticed their hands slipping into the folds of their clothes, no doubt to grasp daggers hidden within.

"Ganondorf has proven a trustworthy ruler and friend my daughter, you needn't be so harsh." The old man, king, since Raven was princess.

"I agree with the young one," grumbled the old rock man, "Gerudans have never wanted peace."

Angry voices rose in offense, and Raven stuck her face to her palm. Why couldn't she have just stayed home?

Beast Boy stood over the corpse of Gohma, grin splitting his face, "That was awesome!"

Navi hovered unimpressed by the downed monster as the green boy did a victory dance that would make Michael Jackson cringe.

Eventually Beast Boy stopped, sliding his sword and shield back over his shoulders. "Man, I love this place!"

But Link, the Great Deku tree is sick, do you not… Beast Boy nodded, "yeah, but nothing could fix that."

The fairy angled at him, curious. "The Deku Tree is dyeing Navi, nothing we do will change it."

You seem to know an awful lot about the future, Beast Boy shrugged, stepping out of the pit and heading toward the wood doors. The heart of the Deku Tree was a huge cave like chamber, and as cool as fighting Gohma was, Beast Boy wanted to move on the next level.

Link? Aren't you forgetting something? Navi remained over the downed monster, blinking yellow every once in a while.

Beast Boy shook his head, and Navi gave an exasperated sigh, The heart?

Beast Boy's eyes widened, "No, no way, I am not eating that heart,"

Navi tinkled angrily, It is tradition, to eat the heart of the enemy is to gain his strength!7

"I'm plenty strong already," Beast Boy made to leave, but found the door jammed and immovable.

"No! All this time, I thought I was just collecting health!" he pressed his back against the door, guilt suddenly weighing on him as he remembered all of the thousands of Zelda monsters he had beaten.

"NO!"

Beast Boy shuffled out of the Deku Tree, stomach churning and face pale. "This is definitely worse than when I ate that ham,"

Navi tinkled along by his shoulder, Wimp.

Beast Boy stopped and turned to look up at the Great Deku tree. The old bark was greying and cracking, and the giant mustached face was caught beneath screaming and crying. Beast Boy recalled the first time he'd seen this, and the sorrow his little green heart had felt.

"Well done, Link... Thou hast verily demonstrated thy courage... I knew that thou wouldst be able to carry out my wishes... Now, I have yet more to tell ye, wouldst thou listen..." the deep voice of the tree echoed forth, and Beast Boy nodded, too emotional to try saying no.

"Now... listen carefully..." the Deku Tree told the familiar tale of woe, of the dangers of the dark man, of Ganondorf. Beast Boy set his jaw; if Control Freak was anyone, he was going to be Ganondorf, the ultimate evil man.

"The future depends on thee, Link... Thou art courageous... Navi the fairy... Help Link to carry out my will... I entreat ye... Navi... Good...bye…"

With that the Great Deku Tree died, and Beast Boy felt it in the air. The forest darkened, the trees turned grey, and the plants wilted. He wiped a tear from his eyes; whoever said Nintendo games were not emotional, never played any.

"Let's do this," Beast Boy looked up at Navi, the fairy hanging low with sorrow.

But, what about... Beast Boy looked up at the Great Deku Tree, "We're leaving the stone here,"

Beast Boy marched on, Navi resting on his shoulder, out of the Kokiri forest. He was so focused he forgot about Sari, and ran into her on the bridge out of the forest.

They both stumbled, and Beast Boy apologized as he helped her up. Sari smiled, "It's alright,"

"I always knew you would leave the forest one day," Beast Boy nodded and she continued, "I made this for you, so you wouldn't forget us…"

The Ocarina she pressed into his hand was small, hand carved from a pale wood. She looked into his eyes, her green ones to his green ones. Beast Boy's heart beat quickened, and she smiled.

On impulse, he leaned forward, pressing his lips to hers. The girl stiffened, but he didn't linger. Beast Boy pushed by her and waved, ready to face Control Freak, ready to save the day.

Navi guffawed, That was unexpected…

Beast Boy looked at her and smirked, "I've always wanted to do that…"
