Lisbon sat up fully, despite the pain in her head. There were three unmarked police cars, two marked ones and lots of cops walking around and talking. The place was busy and everyone seemed to be in a rush. Lisbon tried to talk to two officers that walked past her but they ignored her completely. Why would no-one tell her where Jane was? Lisbon suddenly shook her head violently, dismissing the worst case scenario that had popped into her head. Jane couldn't be gone. He couldn't be dead. There was something she wanted to tell him…

"Van Pelt!"

Lisbon called out to the red haired agent who had just walked out of the house with Cho. Both agents walked over to Lisbon's side.

"This is an order, tell me the truth…"

"Where is Jane…?"

Both agents looked at each other, Grace nodded at Cho.

"Uh, we don't know where he is Boss…"

Lisbon looked blankly ahead. Van Pelt spoke.

"See, we managed to track this place through Rosalind Harker. She'd been round with the guy who owned it, one of Red John's friends. We came here and that's when we found Maya in the kitchen with a knife, Hardy dead and you unconscious in the basement."

Lisbon interrupted.

"Hardy's dead?"

Van Pelt nodded.

"He had tried to, um, get Maya in the kitchen but after a struggle she managed to stab him, she's a little shaken up, understandably."

Lisbon looked down at her lap, clearly worried about Jane.

"Boss, we searched everywhere…"

Van Pelt looked back at Cho. His eyes darted to the side, she whispered desperately at him.

"Go on…"

Cho reluctantly pulled something out of his pocket, a picture.

"This is all we could find Boss…"

Lisbon took the picture in her bandaged hand. The picture was of the cellar where they'd been held. It was the same, the two rotting wine racks, the broken mattress… Lisbon flinched; the picture began to shake, as she stared at the large red smiley face painted on the back wall…
