Chapter 8

"Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!" Evangeline scream.

"Yes Evangeline," Sally said in a sweet voice.

"I sew my arm by myself," She said and show her stitches to her mother.

"Great job my Pumpkin Princess."

"Thanks mommy, can you double check if my other stitches are tight?"

"Why sweetie?"

"So I won't fall apart at the slumber party."

Sally gives a small laugh, "Alright come here and I'll check."

"Mommy, guess what."

"What sweetie?"

"Victoria said she's going let us play with her dolls."

"Be sure to be careful with them."

"I will mommy."

"Sally? Evangeline?"

"We're in here Jack," said Sally.

Jack enters the room with a little black suitcase in his hand. "Here you go Evangeline."

"Thanks daddy."

"Let's go get pack," said Sally as she finish tightening another stitch.

"Ok mommy."

Sally pack two sets of clothes, her pajamas, socks, underwear, and shoes. Jack grabs a blanket and pillow and made room in the suitcase. Sally goes to get Evangeline's tooth brush, Jack notice something is off. He looks to see Evangeline starring at her hands and feet.

"What's wrong Evangeline?" Jack asked as he cup her chin.

"What if they don't like me," she said in a whisper.

"What do you mean?"

"What if the other girls don't like me because of the way I look?"

"Evangeline, Victoria invited you to go right?"

"Yes."

"Than she must like you to have you go to her party." Evangeline didn't look convince. "Evangeline, I know it's scary to see what others think of you. But it's the inside that matters."

"Really?"

"Yes, you're mother taught me that."

"She did?"

"Yes, when we first met the holiday leaders…well they were scare."

"Why?" she asked cocking her head to the side.

Jack couldn't help but smile at her cuteness. "Because we look different but in time they got to know us and weren't afraid anymore. Do you understand?"

"Yes daddy."

"Are you ready to go Evangeline?" Sally asked.

"Yes mommy."

Jack and Sally took Evangeline's hands and walk towards the Thanksgiving door where John Smith stood. Evangeline kisses her parents goodbye and follow John Smith through the holiday door. Sally begins to cry.

"Sally, my dear wife what's wrong?" Jack asked as he holds her.

"Our little girl is growing up."

"I know, come lets go home."

The house is so quiet; the sounds of laughter of the Pumpkin Princess is gone. Jack and Sally decide to retire early; tears keep falling from Sally's eyes.

"Sally, Evangeline spend the night before."

"Yes, but at her grandparents' house. She's so far away."

"I know, but she'll be back tomorrow morning."

"I know but I miss her."

"I miss her too, but she's out there making new friends."

"True."

Jack and Sally stay awake for hours; they got some sleep three hours before the sun rise. Evangeline came home and told her parents everything she did.

So sorry for the wait, but I had an upper respiratory infection. So I haven't been to school and could barely type on my laptop, but all better and caught up with schoolwork.
