Sorry I didn't write for a while! Here is the chapter you have all been waiting for.
Happy digging!
It's 10 o'clock and I'm standing in front of the fossil stadium, listening to the announcement.
"Today there's a tournament for all the fossil fighters wishing to raise up to level three only." says Slate's voice in the stadium's speakers. "Head towards the stadium to register! Good luck!"
I run inside the building to enrol. I head towards the front desk and ask Tiffany if I can register.
"Sure," she responds. "Could I see your fossil fighter license?"
I lend her my permit. She inspects it for a few seconds before handing it back to me.
"Krypter, level two fossil fighter. Ok then, you can head towards the door to your right to start the cleaning test. Good luck!"
fvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvf
Fifteen minutes later I'm standing in the same gray room, ready to start my Level-Up battle. I march to the end of the corridor to find… Nevada!
"Hey, Krypter!" she greets me. "How are you doing? I'm the Level 2 master. I'll be the one to test your level two skills and decide if you're worth a level 3 fossil fighter. Be ready, this won't be easy! Good luck partner!"
She then turns around and passes the two metal doors behind her and I follow her footsteps. We take our positions on the battlefield and start the battle. The stands are filled with people cheering for me and Nevada.
"Nychus, S-Raptor and Brachio, I call you!" she yells while throwing her Dino medals in the air.
Three vivosaurs appears. Brachio is in the attack zone. Nychus is in the lower support position while S-Raptor is in the other one.
"Spinax, S-Raptor and Goyle, I choose you!" I shout before throwing my medallions on the ground.
My medals transformed into vivosaurs. Spinax is at the attack position, S-Raptor the upper support zone and Goyle is below Spinax.
"Look at what we have here!" says Slate. "Professional explorer Nevada against the handsome new fighter Krypter! Didn't he save her the other day in the Digadigamid P.A.?"
"That's right Slate!" responds P.A. "The female fighter was trapped in a room and Krypter and Rosie Richmond rescued her! They are some pretty brave fighters!"
"Yes, they sure are indeed! Now let's watch this battle to see who's going to win! Nevada is the one that starts off with the first move!"
"Brachio switch places with S-Raptor!" orders Nevada. "Then S-Raptor use S-Fang on Goyle!"
Brachio slowly walks into the escape zone while S-Raptor moves forwards to the AZ. Then the red vivosaur runs towards Goyle and bites him on the head. My dino lost a quarter of his health.
"Spinax, Spinax Fang on S-Raptor!" I yell.
My bipedal vivosaur rushes towards S-Raptor and bites him fiercely on the leg. S-Raptor growls and glares towards Spinax's direction. He lost a third of his health.
"S-Raptor do the same thing as earlier on Goyle!"
The medium-sized vivosaur obeys and bites my small vivosaur again. Goyle now has less than half of his health left.
"Spinax, use Spinax Fang on the same vivosaur as before."
My gray vivosaur runs at S-Raptor and jumps on his back. He then bites the red vivosaur on the neck before hopping back on the ground. S-Raptor now has around a third of his health remaining.
"S-Raptor, use your combo on Spinax!" shouts Nevada.
The vivosaur runs to my Spinax and tries to bite my vivo. But Spinax avoids his attack, and does the same thing again when S-Raptor attempts to kick him with his legs.
"Oooh, and Spinax avoids both these attacks!" says Slate. "That's unfortunate for Nevada. Who's in the lead right now P.A.?"
"I believe that it's Krypter!" she answers. "But Nevada still has time to catch up! Let's watch to see how this battle will end."
"Good job Spinax! Now, use Spinax Combo on Nychus!" I command.
Spinax charges towards the small pink vivosaur bites him on the tail, then he kicks him hard on the jaw while doing a backflip. Nychus screams in pain. He already lost more than half of his health!
When my turn is over Brachio comes back into the game and walks up to upper the SZ position. Nevada makes him the attack zone vivosaur and moves S-Raptor in the EZ. She then skips her turn and doesn't use any FP's.
Hum, I wonder what she's planning…
"Ok, Spinax use Spinax Fang on Nychus! Finish him!"
My vivosaur extinguishes Nychus. He collapses and transforms back into a medal. Nevada picks it up and puts the medallion in her pocket.
"Nychus is the first vivosaur to fall down!" shouts Slate "Who's going to be next?"
"Brachio, Mountain Wave on Spinax!" says Nevada.
The ground suddenly starts to shake violently. Then some spikes emerge from the ground and hit Spinax. My vivosaurs lost half of his health.
"Ooooooh, that's gotta hurt!" says P.A.
"Spinax, eliminate S-Raptor with Spinax Fang!"
Spinax runs towards the red vivosaur and bites him on the leg. S-Raptor faintly groans before changing back to his medal form.
"Wow, now Nevada only has Brachio left! Who are you routing for P.A.? It's Krypter for me."
"Well, I still think Nevada can win. What about you guys?" she says while facing the crowd.
A bunch of screams burst from the bleachers. Some are shouting my name, others Nevada's.
"Brachio, finish Spinax with Mountain Wave!" says Nevada without showing any emotions.
That move unfortunately defeates my gray and green vivosaur. He howls in pain before collapsing.
S-Raptor moves up to the AZ position.
"S-Raptor, S-Combo on Brachio! Then Goyle Goyle Combo on the same vivosaur!" I order to my vivosaurs.
Both vivosaurs charge at the same time towards Brachio. First S-Raptor bites Brachio on the leg, then Goyle slams him with his whole body. After that S-Raptor jumps on Brachio and kicks him on the neck, while Goyle hits the purple vivosaur with his tail. Brachio lost a little more than half of his health.
"I skip my turn!" shouts my opponent.
"S-Raptor, Goyle, use all of our FPs and combine your attacks to exterminate Brachio."
When my move is done, Brachio closes his eyes and lands on the ground, defeated. He then shrinks and transforms into a medallion. Nevada takes him in her hands.
"And Krypter is theeee... WINNER!" shouts Slate through his microphone. "Now that was some incredible battle! Let's hope the next fight featuring Krypter will be has spectacular as this one!"
I exit the field victorious, assaulted by cheers and applauses. I return back to Tiffany.
"Congratulations!" she tells me. "You are now qualified as a level 3 fossil fighter! Could you pass me your permit please?"
I give her my fossil fighter license. She changes something on it before handing it back to me. It now shows that I'm a level 3 fighter. There's even the stamp! I thank Tiffany before walking out of the stadium.
I decide to go to the fossil center to ask Dr. Diggins about the next digging site. On the way there I pass by Rosie. We stop and start talking to each other.
"Hey Krypter!" she greets me. "Are you a level 3 fossil fighter already?"
"Yup," I answer. "I just passed my test a few minutes ago. About you?"
"No, that's what I was going to do. Hey, when I'm done, would you want to go to Rivet Ravine with me?"
"Sure! I was about to go ask Diggins information about that digging site. You can join me at the site later when you're done. If that's ok with you."
"Yeah, ok good idea! I'll go at Rivet Ravine when I'm done. Well, see ya later!"
"Ok, bye!"
She then starts running towards the stadium while I continue my road to the fossil center.
When I arrive there I enter the professor's office. Dr. Diggins is there arranging his papers. But his office is still a huge mess.
When he sees me he raises his head and smiles.
"Hi Krypter! I heard you're now a level 3 fossil fighter! Good job!"
"Thanks. I'm here to ask you details about Rivet Ravine… Could you inform me about that site? It's always better to know where you go before exploring it!"
"Sure!" he happily responds. "I'd be glad to help! Rivet Ravine is a site made of cliffs and canyons. But if you go deeper you'll discover some mines. There's a bunch of passages that are built in the ground. It's like a huge maze but it is full of fossils. There's also McJunker, a man that works in the mines, he is able to guide you and let you use his mines carts to go even deeper in the site."
"Cool! And that McJunker, is he always in the mines?"
"Yes, usually. It's his domain!"
"Ok then! Well, I think I'm going to go now, I want to explore this place before tomorrow. See ya some other time sir!"
I then leave the fossil center and head towards the dock.
I'm finally at Rivet Ravine. I get off the boat and examine the site. Doctor Diggins wasn't exaggerating when he said there was a bunch of canyons here! I approach a cliff's edge. I can't even see the bottom of the pit! And I don't think all of this site was made naturally because the dirt I'm walking on is a strange light orange and red and there are patterns of fossils painted on it. There are some stairs connecting two cliffs together enabling us to cross them and going deeper into the site. It's kind of a cool place!
Suddenly I notice a middle-aged man who's wearing a weird outfit coming from another country. I approach him and salute him.
"Hi!"
He turns around to face me.
"Hello! Would you like to pass my seminar? If you succeed you will obtain some new abilities for your fossil digging. Are you in?"
"Hmm, sure," I reply. "What do you want me to do?"
"Not much. Now just keep standing there for the moment…"
"Ok… What's your name sir?"
"Sam Inaro. Now stop asking questions and shut up so I can concentrate…"
He then raises his hands to the sky and starts shouting.
"BOUGAAAAAA! DIVERAGAAAAA! Colour! Give this boy the power to detect the colour and element of fossils! Bougaaaa!"
Suddenly the ground starts to shake, then a lightning bolt strikes from the blue sky and hits me right in the chest. Curiously it doesn't hurt that much. I manage to not fall. I then start to panic. Is that crazy dude trying to kill me?! Why did I accept to do this?
I then feel a little electric shock run through my body before subsiding. I open my eyes. Is it done? I palpate my chest and my arms… Thank god, I don't even have a scratch.
"Are you crazy?!" I ask Sam furiously while stirring my arms. "You almost killed me! What is wrong with you?!"
"Relax kid!" he responds while trying to calm me. "I just gave you the power to sense the element and colour of fossils. It's a sacred gift! And I think you have potential, because when the lightning bolt descends from the sky people start to freak out and run away."
Geez, I wonder why? I think to myself.
"But you stayed and took the hit," he continues. "You're a brave guy."
"Uh… Thanks?"
"Ok, now let's get to the test to see if it worked. Bring me back a least ten coloured fossils. It's the same procedure as digging non-coloured fossils. You can take all the time you want. I'll tell you later what to do next."
"Ok."
I then distance myself from the strange man and start looking for fossils.
I don't go in the mines, I just stick with the part where the cliffs and canyons are. When I finally find a fossil I deeply examine it by staring at it and concentrating, and a few seconds later I discern a colour through the rock. Wow! It's like magic! The colour I see is royal blue, so I assume the fossil's element is water. That's so cool! I keep digging to find others fossils.
Twenty minutes later I return back to Sam Inaro, a dozen of coloured fossil in my bag. He observes them then congratulates me.
"Good job! I see that you have found colored fossils! I'm going to pick one of them and you have to tell me its element. Got it?"
"I'm ready!"
He takes a random fossil out of my bag and hands it to me. I stare at it intently and finally see the fossil's colour. White.
"Neutral, and the fossil's colour is white," I tell Sam a minute later.
"Nice! Now I'm asking you to find at least five air type fossils. Good luck!"
After that I keep exploring Rivet Ravine while looking for fossils at the same time.
When I arrive in front of the mines I only have in my possession three green fossils, so I decide to enter the cave to continue my researches.
The mines are very dark, because they are only illuminated by some torches. When I arrive inside I notice a large man repairing a mine cart in a corner. I'm guessing that's McJunker. His skin is yellowish and he has a big white beard. McJunker is wearing a yellow mine helmet and a green jumpsuit. Under it there's a purple blouse and a blue shirt. He is also wearing a pair of gloves and big boots. I walk towards him. Before I'm able to even say a word McJunker spins around.
"Hi kid!" he greets me with a deep raspy voice. "I'm Mcjunker. What do you need?"
"Not much," I answer. "I was just looking at what you were doing."
"You interested in the mine cart business? 'Cause if yes I'm the perfect guy to give you information!"
"Uh, no, not really. I was just wondering if I could use one of your carts to explore the mines."
"Sure, but you're gonna have to spit out some money first…"
He bursts out laughing when seeing the weird look I give him. I'm confused now. Is he letting me borrow his cart or not?!
"I'm kidding junior!" he tells me, still laughing. "Of course you can use my carts! But don't break them. Here."
He points an old rusty wagon sitting up on some rails a little further.
"Take that one, it's going to bring you to a place filled with fossils. When you're ready I'll push the cart to make it move."
"Ok!" I excitedly answer.
I walk towards the indicated mine cart and hop in it. There's enough space for me to crouch. McJunker comes too and goes behind the cart.
"Ready?" he asks me.
"Yup!"
He then pushes me with all his might. I was sure at the beginning that the vehicle was going to tip, because it really doesn't look in good shape. So I start to get worried. But instead it slowly starts moving and then it charge as fast as a bullet on the rails. Wow, I didn't know that thing could go so fast!
A few minutes later the cart slows down and stops by itself. I get out of the cart, pumped with adrenaline, although a little bit dizzy. Seconds pass before I feel alright again. I then start looking around.
I'm in a deep part of the mines, but this place isn't big though. I don't understand why, but I always have this feeling like I'm being watched…
Maybe because you are dummy! says a little voice in my head.
I turn around. Nobody's there, of course. Ah whatever! I then start digging for fossils.
A dozen minutes later my bag is full. And I have far more than five green fossils!
Suddenly my sonar starts to make weird noises. Then a red dot appear on the screen. Weird, I didn't see that earlier… I plant my pickaxe where the point is. I then continue digging with my hands. My fingers finally touch a small cold object, which I get out of the hole.
The item has a weird shape, I can't say what it exactly is. But it's made entirely of metal, a kind of metal I don't recognize. Not gold, not silver, not iron… I have no idea what it is. But the object has a pale turquoise colour. I continue to examine it.
It looks like a piece of something, because it is broken at certain places. I suddenly have an idea. I could ask Doctor Diggins! He should be able to tell me what it is! So I put the thing in my bag and head back to the cart. I think the chariot has automatic functions, because when I get in the vehicle it starts moving forward by itself and returns to the mines entrance.
When I arrive I disembark and go see McJunker.
"Does your mine cart have automatic functions?" I curiously ask him.
"Yeah!" he responds while turning around. "You noticed huh junior? There's a function that when the cart feels weight, like if it's transporting people or cargo, it will roll on the rails and come back here, where the road stops. Pretty cool right?"
"That's neat! Are you the one that made these vehicles?"
"Yup, all of them!" he answers, proud of himself. "It took me a while but all these babies are my creations!" he says while patting one of the carts.
"That's cool! Well, I'm going to go back to the fossil center to clean my fossils but I'll come back later. Bye!"
"I think I'm going to like you junior! See ya later!"
He then turns around and continues what he was doing. I walk out of the mines and head towards the entry of the site. I go up to Sam Inaro and show him my fossils.
"I managed to find more than five air fossils!" I say to him while handing him the rocks.
"Good job!" he tells me. "They are indeed all air type fossils! I think you now know how to control your power, so I'll let you go. Don't waste your gift, it is going to be very useful to you. When you're be a little stronger come back and I'll let you pass another seminar."
Even if the idea of doing another seminar scares me a little I accept. I then say goodbye to him before leaving Rivet Ravine.
fvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvf
When Krypter goes on the boat and leaves, Sam lowers his head and looks at the ground, ashamed.
Why did I do this? I just gave him the curse… I had sworn I would never do it again, but I couldn't help myself… I'm free now, but that kid isn't… The next time I see him I'll try to fix things. Doesn't matter if I must pay the consequences, what I did was wrong. I hope the same thing that happened to me won't occur to him too…
fvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvfvf
When I arrive at the fossil center I go see Diggins in his office. He's buried under a ton of work.
"Hi sir!" I say. "Are you busy, if so I can come back another time…"
He raises his head to look at me.
"No, no! We can talk! I'm not that busy. So, what do you want?"
I get the metal thing out of my bag and put it on his desk.
"Do you know what this is by any chance?"
Diggins takes it in his hands and starts observing it during a while.
"No," he finally says a few minutes later. "Unfortunately I don't know what it is. But it looks like a piece of something."
"Yes, that's what I thought too."
"Yeah. I think it's a kind of tool or something. It also looks like a very advanced technology. Where did you find this?"
"In the Rivet Ravine mines."
"It's weird, 'cause I dug there a lot and I have never found anything like this object. I'll do some research. Could you go back to Rivet Ravine and find the others pieces?"
"Sure, I'll come back here when I get them."
"Ok."
He then opens his laptop and started looking for information. I exit the building and walk towards the dock.
When I reach Rivet Ravine I have the surprise to find Rosie there! She's digging for fossils near the cliffs. I approach her and greet her.
"Hey Rosie!"
She turns around to answer.
"Hi Krypter! I just got here. The diner was soooooo long and granddad wouldn't stop talking. But after an eternity we finally finished eating, so I was able to come to Rivet Ravine."
"I would not have wanted to be at your place! Would you like to help me with something?"
I get the turquoise thing out of my bag and show it to her.
"Could you come with me in the mines and help me find the other pieces like this one?"
She looks at it during a few seconds.
"Sure! But I didn't go in the mines yet, so you'll have to show me where it is."
"Ok then follow me!"
I put the object back in my bag before indicating her the way. Before starting the road I notice something. Sam Inaro isn't there anymore…
Soooooooo? What do you think? I hope you guys liked it! The next chapter should arrive soon!
