The dark sky shined with millions of stars above the horse and carriage. The four men and girl and horse trailed along a dirt road, the same they had been following for days on end. Melody was sitting in the carriage with bound wrist behind her back and could smell the sea close by. The carriage shacked from the several rocks that littered the path ahead, each one causing the little girl more discomfort. The salty scent grew stronger as they continued down the trail.
"Can't be that much further now, can it?" one of the men asked the man at the front.
"Judging by the smell, we must be very close, only a couple of minutes away" the driver called back.
Melody heard them speak but didn't say a word; she just sat still and looked at the floor of the carriage. Beside her one her kidnappers looked down on her.
"Did the person say why he wanted her?" he asked his comrades.
Melody took notice that the kidnapper said he. It was a man who wanted her, but who.
"No, they just said bring her to me when you arrive back. Nothing else" one of two sitting across from her said.
Ten minutes passed and Melody could hear the sound of the ocean and of the docks. The driver got down and started to walk to a lamp sitting a post that went into the water. It was a small dock with only one pier, but it had several lamps to light the area. Not many people were there as well; only about three men were walking around it and only one ship was anchored there.
"It's a hidden pier" the man next to her said.
Melody looked up at him cursorily.
"So we can transport you without guards finding us, it makes the job a lot easier" he continued.
"IS IT READY"? One of the two men sitting across from her yelled.
The driver ran back over to them and nodded. The poor little girl was practically thrown of the back of the wagon. She hit the dirt ground hard and needed help getting back to her feet.
"Gag her and make sure her wrist are secured" one of the men said.
As he said this one of her other kidnappers stuffed an old dirty rag in her mouth and tied a rope over in and knotted it at the back of her head so she couldn't spit her gag out. The man started to push her as she walked slowly to the docks and eventually, the ship. The ship was an old small brig with marks that yelled that it's been in combat before. She was lead to the boarding plank with her four human robbers behind her. She looked at the ground in sadness. This is really happening, why did it have to happen to me I just want to go home. A muscle bound man walked down the plank and met the group. He was wearing black leather pants and boots and a green coat with gold trims and buttons. On his left breast there was a symbol, a black shield with a monstrous looking beast on it. His face was scarred and he a large bushy black beard and no hair. He looked down at Melody with intimidating eyes and grasped her sad face in his right hand.
"So this is the cargo I'm transporting?" he asked the men without looking away from Melody.
One of them men stepped forward and spoke to him.
"Yes she is, and are you the one with our payment?" he asked expecting yes for an answer.
The bald man smiled, let go of Melody's face and produced from a pocket inside his a coat a small tacky looking pouch.
"I believe this is it here" the sailor said looking at the bag greedily.
He threw the bag over to the awaiting four men. The man who had stepped forward caught it and quickly opened to see their reward.
"Diamonds" he said surprised.
"He thought gold would not be worth enough, he settled on diamonds" the bald man said then looked back down at Melody then back up at his ship.
Several sailors were leaning on the side looking down at the transaction. The bald man then looked back over to the four who were still gawking over the precious gems and smiled.
"Now for the rest of your payment" he said then quickly raised his arm up then slammed it down into the air.
The four men looked up confused as the bald man's sailors picked up several loaded crossbows and fired at them. Arrows rained on them and they screamed as the projectiles pierced them and left a bloody mess. Their bodies lied motionless with several arrows sticking from them. Melody had turned and watched the whole event happen before. She couldn't say anything, she couldn't even scream, she was shocked.
"Take her below and lock her in a room" the captain said to the men on the ship.
Melody was still looking at the dead bodies; she had never seen someone be killed before. A sailor in a upper class white shirt and black leather boots and white pants (the same as the rest of crew) came down and threw Melody over his shoulder and carried her on board. When she was gone the captain looked on at his handy work then started walk over to the dead bodies.
"You won't need this anymore" he said as he bent over and picked up the bag diamonds.
He chuckled at this and continued to do so as he turned and walked back up on the ship. He walk past the rest of the crew who were preparing to cast and then walked to his cabin which was under the wheel. His ship had twelve sails and at the top flew a white flag with the same symbol as the one on the captains left breast. In his cabin he walked past and threw the bag of diamonds on a large circular wooden table and continued to walk the other side of his quarters to where his double bed was. Tied he fell on it and slept.
Melody laid on a lard wooden bench in the darkness, caged like animal but finally free of her gag and wrist bounds, but even now she felt more trapped than ever. I'm never going to see my family again. My mom, my dad, none of them. She then turned and faced the wooden wall and started to cry heavily.
