Chapter 9: Untill You Tell Me The Truth... Katherine Perspective
I raced into the office to find Harry and Ron talking to Remus and Kingsley in hushed voices, "...the rip in the fragment of time is most likely supposed to kill-" Kingsley's deep voice stopped in shock as I angrily stomped across the office to my father and yanked the bloody book they were looking at on the floor. Remus closed his eyes readying himself for my yelling not at all surprised, as Kingsley looked between my father and I with worry and confusion, and Ron's face got red with shock as he slowly got his wand out to stun me as if I wouldn't notice.
I got my wand out and pointed it at my father as he nodded at Ron to put away his wand. "Is there anything you think I should know daddy?" My voice was calm and collected but my scowl was menacing and fierce as I looked into his eyes, my eyes, our eyes. "Err..." He looked at me cautiously and Kingley's face filled with understanding that never left Remus'.
I angrily looked at my Uncle, "Uncle Ron?" He looked up at me with his hands raised he opened his mouth but I turned away.
I straightened up and looked at the Minister in challenge. He looked up and held eye contact. He was innocent but maybe he knew, "You wouldn't happen to know... anything you think I'd want to know, do you?" Kingsley nodded his head no, "Katherine, it's not my place and you know that." I scowled at him but in his Gryffindor spirit he refused to budge. I turned to the last person in the room who could help me.
Remus was humming under his breath with his eyes closed. He'd be a tough nut to crack but he was my god father and I knew him well. "Remus?" My voice was calm and inquisitive and he opened his eyes in amusement. "Yes Katherine?" He looked at me imploringly, I knew I had one question at most.
"Remus, what is Teddy doing in my room?" I focused on Remus, I just got his curiosity which was worth all of the questions in the world if I could keep it. He raised his eyebrows in a fatherly manner, "Something appropriate I hope! Though his daily actions with his significant other hardly concern me or anyone else in the room." Reamus' curiosity was at a moderate point now but I needed all of it so I smiled good naturally to throw him off.
Kingsley nodded his consent and his deep voice rang through the quite office, "Why Remus I agree, so with that being said I shall meet with you all in my office tomorrow afternoon... Harry, Ronald see you tomorrow morning at work, Remus if you can sneak away from your department I'd love to see you in my office tomorrow afternoon as well, and Katherine always a pleasure tell Ted I say hello!" With a final nod Kingsley flooed out of the office rather swiftly.
I turned to my uncle who had not only picked up the book but had continued reading it, "Uncle Ron why don't you finish reading that book some place quieter." He looked at me like he didn't want to leave me with my wand, "Go on it'll probably get really loud in a few minuets." Ron cast a look at Harry who sighed and Remus who shrugged before leaving.
I waited to the door closed before tossing the sticky handkerchief on my fathers desk directly in between the two men and leaning on the desk looking at both of there heads as they processed what that handkerchief means.
"Go ahead Remus, answer my question what is Teddy doing in my room this very moment?" My hand had dried blood on it but the handkerchief was ruined and had the smell of blood on it. Remus opened the cloth and placed it down gently as my father jumped out of his seat in alarm.
I scowled at him, "Err dad, is there anything you think I should know?"
Remus' curiosity was turned into severity as he leaned back and watched me as if to say 'go ahead scream my ear off but then we have to go find Teddy.' My father however thought he should try to calm me down, "I- he- you don't have level clearance-"
"I DON'T HAVE LEVEL CLEARANCE... THIS IS ABOUT YOUR BLOODY JOB? I DON'T HAVE LEVEL CLEARANCE AND REMUS, WHO ISN'T AN AUROR, DOES! NO, IS IT MINISTRY CLEARANCE? AM I NOT POLITICLY CONNECTED ENOUGH?" "Katherine."
"TEDDY IS HURT- HE'S SICK AND YOU DON'T THINK I NEEDED TO KNOW? YOU KNEW BLOODY WELL HE RESPECTS YOU TOO MUCH TO NOT LISTEN TO YOU IS YOU TOLD HIM NOT TO TELL ME." "Katherine."
"YOU DIDN'T WANT ME TO KNOW... you didn't want me to know and now I do and you don't know what to say."
I looked at my father again before speaking to Remus. "Who else knows?" Remus looked at me with his pondering eyes, "Your mother and his need to be informed, which I can handle, but it would be more prudent for you to go fetch Victoire."
I clenched my fists, how dare they include Victoire, his ex, before I even find out. "Thank you Remus, and father..." My dad looked at my angry hurt green eyes and looked at me with his own. "I am aware of his condition, no matter how long I wasn't, and would appreciate it if you could inform me if anything else happens. Thank you for consideration." I left him in his state of shock and found Victoire in the dinning room with out Liam, her husband, and immediately panicked.
The last time I saw her she was snogging my fiance and didn't feel guilty in the slightest about mockingly sharing the details. "Hello Victoire." I said it in a diplomatic voice if not only a bit wearily saying my greetings. She scowled at me, "Oh and to what do I owe the pleasure?" I tried not to roll my eyes as the situation was dire so instead I threw the sticky bloody handkerchief on her lap and her eyes widened.
She followed me to my room but before I could finish opening the door, she leaned against it and the door shut with a snap. "So why does Teddy need my help, wants a good snog does he? A nice feel from a beautiful woman? Maybe a quality-" My forearm was crushing her neck to the wall and my wand poked her cheek as she struggled and I whispered, "Don't you dare make this about you, you have a husband and your happy. Don't you dare make me, or him, unhappy because it isn't about you." I took a step back and let her bend over so she could catch her breath. "Don't you get it Katherine, it is about me and it always has been."
Before I could stop her she disappeared in my room and I was forced to follow her. My father was quietly talking to Teddy, who looked unconscious, while his mother fluffed his pillows and my mother took out different potions from her healers bag. "Where have you been, if you aren't going to be helpful I suppose it'd be best to just leave. Oh and Victoire start brewing the potion." My mother didn't look up or greet me as she criticized me and gave Victoire a job to do.
My godmother and father stiffened slightly but my mother continued preparing and Remus looked between Victoire and I. The werewolf had apparently decided not to push the subject and offered me a seat next to him. I sat next to him and we quietly watched everyone work in systematic order.
As I watched I couldn't help but remember how everything was different before I graduated Hogwarts.
Knock. Knock. "Katherine deary, Torie's downstairs, don't keep her waiting." My mother walked away from my door and I rolled my eyes at her, quickly grabbing my purse and running down the stairs eager to meet my older cousin and go with her for tea with Grandma Andromeda, Grandpa Ted, and Ted. It was always like that it seamed, her and Teddy some other couple of pair of friends and me as the odd one out. However, at thirteen I thought my seventeen year old cousin and my eighteen year old god brother were the coolest people in the universe and so I didn't mind being the odd one out, not really, I got to listen and hang out with my cool family.
I remember the summer in-between my second and third years, I had sleep overs and girl talks with Vicky every Wednesday and quiditch games and fun big brother outings every Tuesday. Everything was fun and spontaneous until July 9th. July 9th was the day Teddy decided to propose to my oldest cousin and my oldest cousin decided to say yes.
It was Monday night and Teddy and Vicky were at Vicky's parents' house eating dinner, I was finishing writing my charms essay or at least starting the link to the conclusion and the evidence. Suddenly my mother came running up the stairs swinging my door open and flipping my music off with her wand. "You'll never guess! Teddy and Torie are getting married! They're finally tying the not, my mum told me he popped the question after dessert... oh isn't this fantastic?" I was too shocked to answer my mother's frantic exclamation as she ran out of the room to tell everyone else in the family. My ink bottle fell all over my essay but I was too preoccupied to notice. I went to bed anxiously waiting to see Teddy and maybe even Vicky the next day. I however must've been the only one who wanted to see the two love doves because my Tuesday and Wednesday were spent rewriting my charms essay and starting my transformation essay in solitude as everyone gossiped about the two missing teens.
I grimaced remembering how hurt I felt to be home alone with my six little siblings, while my pregnant mother juggled healer paperwork and buying and making weird dishes that, in honour of Teddy and Vicky's love, all included chocolate and vanilla flavourings, my dad worked a lot to avoid my mother's hormonal temper, and I seemed to be the only one worried about Teddy and Vicky's surprise vacation to France. My father was dealing with a particularly cruel and unusual auror case with my godmother Tonks when he had to drop all of his meetings and paperwork July 14 because my mother decided to go into labour.
It was Saturday night and less than an hour before eleven pm and I was at the Lupin house hold watching a 'chick flick' with Leah as Lena was half watching half snoring and Olivia was covering her face with whipped cream and cheese spray. Suddenly my pink haired god mother came crashing into the room, "We gotta go! Go, go, go throw a hat over your bonnet and a cloak over your night gowns... little Grace Jessica Potter is on her way. At the hospital, Katerina, Lena and I were waiting in the hall while everyone else felt the need to go to the cafeteria. Little Grace Jessica Potter took her sweet damn time because she was born at exactly 5:01 am, July 15 about seven minuets after Teddy and Vicky came rushing in the room. I held my new baby sister in my arms sitting in the chair next to my mother and looked into her eyes, that matched mine, pretending they were both beneath my acknowledge.
The rest of the summer I went to boy band concerts, pop and rock female, and a series of 'you're Harry Potter's daughter so your invited' events with my friends and cousins or boys, always making sure I wasn't alone or the odd one out. Before I knew it the parents that replaced me with another baby and the role models who replaced me with each other were disappearing in a puff of Hogwarts Express smoke. That year I ignored most of the owls sent by my family and focussed on my studies, friends, and boys.
It was the end of term and after staying at Hogwarts for Christmas and ignoring my family I think everyone will appreciate me more. My hair was styled into a mature bob cut stopping just past my chin and currently in thick braids, this summer was the first summer I've cut my hair shorter then my shoulders and it felt great. I ended up hitching a ride from Olivia since my parents were at home with the new baby. After spending the night at Olivia's I went home and was greeted by a loud crying sound, "Mummy make her shut up!" My younger sister Lilly who was currently eight had Natalia over and James and Sirius threw exploding snaps around, over, and under me. "JAMES AND SIRIUS YOU TWO PUT THOSE AWAY RIGHT NOW YOU ALMOST HURT POOR LITTLE GRACIE!" I bit my cheeks as my mother walked in holding a one year old girl with brown hair, green eyes, and an impossibly small frame; even for a small baby she looked way too small for her age, but then again she was a premature birthed child. "Oh Katherine great your back! I missed you during Christmas, now you can watch Grace and catch up on what you missed about your sister while I go shower!" She quickly handed her off to me and ran up the stairs. I looked into her eyes and smiled as she quickly became my favourite sibling, I gently rocked her finally getting her to sleep peacefully.
About four hours later my mother agreed to take Grace again and I flood to Grandma Weasley's house to find Victoire making wedding plans with her mother and grandmothers. I some how got duped by Teddy and became a junior brides maid along with Leah and Lena and Victoire pulled and squeezed us into these French porcelain dolls that couldn't breath in our blue and cream tight bodice princess dress with beaded two tones, puffy ruffled, tight tiered lace, and floor length with thick make-up. She was Bridezilla on double time with a bloody purpose to make sure everyone knew there was nothing but the best for Victoire. I learned two very important lessons; Victoire will do anything and hurt anyone to reach her goal no matter what it is Slytherin or not. I've also learned everything a person does for or to you has a hidden purpose that better suits their greater good.
Ever since then Vicky has been a reminder not to put more emotion an anyone than they put into you. Ever since then Torie has been a reminder that charisma is the most useful and deadly power of all; it allows you to control people and get what you desire in your hidden agenda. Ever since Victoire has been a reminder that family isn't everything, especially if it's a big family and you get many different types of crazy involved.
It does however make me extremely curious about what exactly Victoire's hidden agenda is...
Victoire's Perspective
"Hello Victoire." Katherine my less beautiful and more childish cousin said apprehensively, trying to pretend she didn't want to hex me.
I didn't have time for her or her 'leave me alone' speech so I tried my best to intimidate her, "Oh and to what do I owe the pleasure?" She looked peeved but straightened up and threw a handkerchief on my lap; I lifted it up slightly to see sticky blood on the handkerchief and now my hands.
I quickly followed her up the stairs thinking about Teddy's second episode of the day. His condition must be getting worse; we'd have to talk to him about telling… wait; who told Katherine about Teddy anyhow? Wasn't it bad enough that she is why he's in this situation, now they want to involve her and let her make it worse?
I leaned against the door to Katherine's bedroom and the door shut with a snap. "So why does Teddy need my help, wants a good snog does he? A nice feel from a beautiful woman? Maybe a quality-"
My neck was pressed to the wall and her wand poked her cheek as I struggled and she whispered, "Don't you dare make this about you, you have a husband and your happy. Don't you dare make me, or him, unhappy because it isn't about you."
I took a moment to catch my breath. "Don't you get it Katherine, it is about me and it always has been." She acts as if Teddy hadn't just willingly snogged me earlier today, but she's right I am happily married and I should act like I am.
When I waked into the room, Teddy was laying nearly unconscious, while everyone worked around him. "Where have you been, if you aren't going to be helpful I suppose it'd be best to just leave, oh and Victoire start brewing the potion." I nodded and started to work, my favourite aunt was probably one of the only one who understood me.
I hurriedly got to work, I'm a mediwitch on her floor at St. Mungo's and so I'm used to working with her.
Teddy's hair was blonde with a bluish tint which meant he needed a grand pepperup potion, which cured severe cold symptoms like sweating and fever but also the rare loss of wand or in this case metamorphmagus powers.
If he is coughing up blood than I'll also make a mild blood-replenishing potion to level out his blood loss and stop the bleeding. A strong invigoration draught, for energy, extra girding potion, for endurance, and wit-sharpening potion so he won't wake up confused and kiss me again should be all that he needs, he's lucky.
However I used the anapneo charm to clear his throat and nose of blood so he doesn't choke and tergeo, a charm that cleaned his bloody clothes. I finished brewing all of Teddy's potions just as Ginny finished checking his vitals.
Ginny looked up from her clip board and walked out of the room, probably to cross reference an older healer book.
I looked down at Teddy who I could've sworn to be sleeping if I hadn't seen Harry whisper to Ted and see him make nearly undetectable nods back as if they were carrying on a conversation.
"...and you have the day off excused..." Ted shook his head and Harry sighed.
"Ted, if you don't take the day off and rest, your on desk work..."
Ted shook his head again, "What do you think Vic?" His eyes were still closed and Harry was looking at me pleading with his eyes.
"Sit up and take your potions and we'll see how your feeling."
"Katherine knows, she's in the kitchen talking with your parents now..." Harry shared a look with Ted before Ted looked at me.
"Err Harry can you find my dad before I talk to Katherine?" Harry looked at me over his shoulder with a arched eyebrow but left none the less.
Teddy turned to me slowly sitting up, "How much does she know?" I shook my head and set his potions out."Your welcome... for everything the potions, the cookies, the lie I just told Harry..."
"Thank you Victoire, for everything... And I'm sorry for kissing you."
I laughed, "And since when have you been sorry for kissing me?" He rolled his eyes too as I sat on his fiancé's bed neatly.
"Since it became wrong." He was looking into my eyes and I smiled ruefully, "Or maybe just a little while after that?"
He looked at me, mirth filling his eyes, "Liam's going to kick my ass... maybe even harder than when I kicked his ass."
I looked at him, remembering when Teddy and I were dating and Liam and I were sneaking around, "If you can't get closure, get even." I lay next to him trying to remember how I became so good with cheating.
Teddy looked at me with curiosity filled eyes, "Yeah, I suppose you'd know best about that." I looked at him, mirth filling my eyed.
"I miss us being friends you know. It's also my fault that I kissed back, so I'm sorry as well."
We stared at each other for a moment, and Ted nodded slowly, "Friends?" I smiled as Ted nodded again for me before turning to his fiancé who was standing by the door.
