Chapter 9: The Battle For Anubis's Fleet
Author's note: Sorry for the lateness of the update. I was busy with other projects. I intend to update more. Enjoy.
Multiple Crossover: Matilda/Stargate/The Host/Twilight
Jack O'Neill's point of view:
This was crazy! This is the craziest thing that we had ever done! We had just retrofit and mounted the Stargate on to the X-302, our new hybrid alien technology aircraft. And now I had to fly the Stargate into outer space. How did it come to this? Anubis, who had found a way to keep the Stargate active and charge it with energy until it blows up...? Okay, I don't know the scientific mechanics behind that. That's Carters department. And now Hammond is really pestering me to select a Russian officer to become the new member of SG-1, I already have Skarra and Adolfina. And what the hell was it with Teal'c trying to persuade me to choose Jonas Quinn? I suppose he would be better than a Russian officer. And Adolfina had volunteered to have Jonas become her apprentice. Of course all of that is a moot point now, because once we get the Stargate into space and it explodes the second Stargate will have to stay buried.
The Stargate and the X-302 had been mounted on top of a 747 jumbo jet and were going to carry me to 30,000 feet before I use the booster on the X-302 to get into space where I will jettison the Stargate into orbit and fly X-302 back to Earth. Let's hope this mission succeeds.
Jacob Black's point of view:
We were in Amun's ship flying towards Anubis's fleet. Amun's Goa'uld friends were supposed to show up to attack Anubis's forces at the exact same time we do while our ship flew with the Asgard. I glanced over at Nessie, an unconscious action. I've done that about every five minutes for her entire life. Always conscious of where she is and what she is doing. Of course that is just the 'werewolf imprinting' talking, but it doesn't matter, the feelings I feel are real to me and I love her. I stare at her just entranced by her appearance, she is so beautiful, she is the most beautiful thing in the entire world to me. I find it hard to believe that I was prepared to kill her up until she made eye contact with me for the first time just minutes after her birth. I saw myself in that moment, that I made eye contact with her, and the werewolf imprinting triggered; I saw her as a young child and me being a big brother to her, watching out for her, taking care of her. Then I saw her as a younger teenager or older preteen, and I saw myself as a good friend that will be trustworthy to her, that would be someone that she could confide in, and always be there for her. Then I saw her as a grown adult, and I saw myself standing at the altar for her while she walked down the aisle wearing a beautiful white wedding dress with Edward on her arm, knowing that I would be spending the rest of my life with her. But through all of that, no matter what age she was, I saw myself as the giant red brown wolf always standing sentinel between her and any danger that conspired against her.
The love that I feel for her is similar to, though a lot stronger than, the romantic love that I used to feel once towards her mother. Bella is now my sister, my very best friend, though marrying Nessie will technically make me her son. Awkward. Bella and I still ride our motorcycles together and we still have a lot of fun just like we did in my homemade garage before she became a vampire.
It's only a few more months until Nessie and I are married, which is a day I look forward to with great anticipation. And if Nessie's vampire immortality holds true the same as any other vampire and my werewolf 'halted age' holds true, granted that I regularly transform, then Nessie and I will be together for all of eternity.
It's ironic, the situation that we are in. That Earth is going to be destroyed by an exploding Stargate because of this Anubis dude. And now we're going to engage in a space battle in a starship. I must've played a thousand violent video games with this similar scenario. But those are just games, this is real.
When Bella was human she was the accident prone one that always attracted danger, and always needed looking out for. Now she was my comrade in arms. I remember a few years ago we fought a Newborn Army, we stood side-by-side with each other, working together as a team to rip off vampires heads. Much to my dismay, Nessie also stood beside us during that battle, I didn't want her there at the time, but she more than proved herself that day by succeeding in killing a vampire by herself without any help.
She is so amazing! She doesn't slow me down! In fact sometimes I just can't keep up with her. It didn't matter that she was as strong and fast as any vampire if not stronger and faster. She is as strong as Emmett, and as fast as Leah. I just wanted her to leave the fighting up to me and stay out of harms way, but apparently she's taken after the entire family, she is very stubborn. I didn't want her on this mission, at least on Earth when fighting a newborn Army is something I'm familiar with, I can semi-control the situation. I have no idea what is going to happen in this situation but I imagine the vulnerability of being in outer space. I mean, some people are afraid to fly because basically they are 30,000 feet in a tin can. This ship I understand is made of a remarkable metal that is far more durable than tin and is even protected by a remarkable deflector shield, but still a hull-breach exposure to the vacuum of space, or even if the ship is hit by powerful weapon and it explodes you will be incinerated just the same as if we were ripped apart and burned. But I'm just acting negatively.
Right now me and everyone else were in the capable hands of the Egyptian vampire who's eyes are red, meaning that he recently fed on human blood. If Benjamin and Tia were not friends of Nessie and part of Amun's coven it would be my natural instinct to destroy Amun so that he couldn't kill anymore humans. But we'd been through this before, this was an alliance of convenience.
"Systems check!" ordered Amun.
"All systems are operating at one-hundred percent." said Kebi.
"Deflector shields?" inquired Amun.
"Shields at full strength." said Tia.
"Shock-pulse warheads?"
"Warheads programmed for maximum yield." said Benjamin. "All torpedo tubes are loaded with warheads, and ready for reloading the moment they are empty."
"Liquid Naquadah Powercore?"
"Power generation at maximum output." said Kebi.
"Maneuvering thrusters?"
"Operating at maximum efficiency." said Alice.
"Super cannon?"
"Fully charged." said Benjamin.
"We are ready. Once we are within transporter range of the planet will ring down to the surface and destroy Anubis's weapon." said Amun.
Nessie stepped right beside me and took my hand. I relaxed at her touch. She then place the tip of her fingers on my temple.
"I love you Jacob." I heard her voice inside my head, "We're gonna get through this together."
I could feel in her emotions through her telepathy, the fear in the small shred of doubt, but the doubt was overpowered by a multitude of confidence. She was not afraid.
'I wish that you are not here.' I thought back. Initially, when she was a baby she could only transfer her own thoughts and memories into other people's minds, but with time and practice she seemed to be able to expand on that; with focus and concentration she can now read other peoples minds with a touch. 'I wish that you would just stay out of harms way and let me do the fighting.'
"There's no reason why I should stay out of the fighting as opposed to the rest of the family. I am as strong and fast as any vampire if not stronger and faster than some."
'Vampire hybrids are easier to kill than pure vampires.' I thought to her.
"Vampire hybrids are harder to kill then werewolves."
I couldn't argue that. I smiled at her, squeezed her hand, and decided to let the matter drop. When Nessie gets stubborn, it is impossible to talk her out of it.
"Ba'al and his fleet will be here in 25 seconds." said Alice as she stared into empty space with a blank look on her face. "Lord Yu, and Amatarasu will arrive 12 seconds later. The Esper Mansion fleet is standing by."
"Open a channel to all ships." ordered Amun.
Communications were then opened.
"Attack now! Hit them hard and fast!" said Amun over the comm.
The battle begun. I watched the front window as we flew in close to one of Anubis's ships while a swarm of Death-Glider fighter interceptors flew at us shooting at us. The ship shook a little when the energy weapons hit our shields.
"Shields are holding, no damage." said Tia.
"Target the nearest Ha'tak with the Super Cannon and fire!" ordered Amun.
We watched as this sinister and intimidating looking beam fired forward from our blind spot beneath the front window. The beam looked like it was made out of densely concentrated lightning. I watched as the beam punched right through the Ha'tak battleship's shields and the ship exploded.
"Super cannon capacitors are recharging, it will be fully charged in one minute and fifty seconds."
Several more of the black and gold pyramid ships fired their weapons at us, however Alice seemed to see it before it happened as she manned the helm and moved us out of the way. But she couldn't avoid every shot as it was like a widespread shower of weapons all around us, and the ship's shields got hit everywhere every second.
"These new and improved shields of yours Amun are impressive and useful, however not completely effective." said Matilda. "It seems that Anubis has made significant improvements on his ships weapons, and our shields are weakening, though only slightly."
"Keep taking us closer to the planet!" ordered Amun.
"A lot of ships are in our way." said Alice.
"Then let's clear the way." suggested Amun as he looked at Benjamin and smiled.
Benjamin smiled back.
"Firing volley of shock pulse warheads." said Benjamin.
The shock pulse warheads fired forward and they lived up to their name; they set off these weird sort of shockwaves of what looked like a distorted rippling tearing apart the metal of every ship in their path.
"All torpedo tubes are empty." said Benjamin. "Torpedo tubes reloading."
And it was Emmett manning the Naquadah plasma cannons which was a rotating turret on the bottom of the ship, and was picking off fighter after fighter.
"Super cannon is fully charged." said Benjamin.
There was another black and gold pyramid battleship directly ahead of us as the super cannon locked on target.
"Light them up!" ordered Amun.
The intimidating looking cannon beam fired forward and again punched right through the Ha'tak battleship's shields and blew it up in a single shot. I looked around through the window and saw other Goa'uld ships which must be the System Lords attacking Anubis's Ships. I saw what I assumed were the Esper Mansion ships firing a variety of different weapons at Anubis's ships. What Matilda Wormwood had referred to as 'O'Neill Class Attack Cruisers' of the Asgard were firing weird looking pulse blasts energy bursts at Anubis's ships.
Alice swerved us this way and that trying to avoid incoming weapons fire that she saw early. Emmett shooting down one death glider after another with the standard Naquadah cannons, but we still kept getting hit.
We managed to almost get near the planet, but unfortunately right in our path was the ship that Alice had referred to in her vision. It was so enormous, it was still several miles away from us but yet it still completely filled our view. It began firing massive volleys of weapons which appeared to be of a significantly denser yield then that of the other ships.
"We are being hailed." said Kebi.
"Let's hear it." said Amun.
The main viewer then showed the inside of the bridge of another ship. The person standing right in view wore a long baggy black cloak that sort of glistened, the sleeves were wrist length, he wore black gloves, and his face was obscured by some kind of silvery mist.
Amun had a look on his face of the utmost anger and disgust.
"Anubis!" said Amun with loathing and contempt.
"Lord Amun!" said the black cloaked man in acknowledgment of Amun. His voice was distorted not just like the Goa'uld but like he was calling to us from the bottom of a deep well."You dare to challenge me! You are very brave! Or very foolish! I have not quite decided which yet! I'm contacting you to offer you a proposal...join me in my struggle against the System Lords, and I promise you equal share of power and you and I will rule the galaxy together!"
"I happen to know you quite well, Anubis, you do not negotiate. You're just trying to stall for a little time. And I will ask you not to waste your own time trying to tempt me with power, I could have long since conquered this galaxy if I wanted to. I was content with just Egypt."
"Until the Volturi deposed you." Anubis taunted.
"Earth is under my protection, Anubis!" said Amun defiantly, ignoring Anubis's last statement. "I will use all of my power to stop you, and there is nothing that you can do about it! End transmission."
The viewscreen went blank and we continued on.
"Talk to me! I need a weak spot on that ship!" said Amun urgently, directing his dilemma to everyone.
Nessie ran to a console with a display for the long range sensors.
"The ship is of a completely different design to standard Goa'uld technology." said Nessie. "It's hard to determine a weak spot."
"Super Cannon fully charged." said Benjamin. "Firing!"
The weapon fired at a random spot on Anubis's super ship.
"Direct hit," said Nessie. "damage is mild compared to the rest of the ship."
"What about that weak spot?" asked Amun impatiently.
"The ship's design is rather interesting?" said Nessie, apparently fascinated. "The ship's 'systems and functions' seem to be highly undifferentiated. This allows the ship to be incredibly redundant even if most of the ship is disabled. There does seem to be one giant Naquadah powercorebut it's buried too deep in the ship."
The ship then shook really hard from surrounding weapons fire.
"We can't take much more of this!" said the newest coven member Valentine.
Alice pulled off some maneuvers and we managed to keep avoiding the weapons fire from the super ship, but we had Gliders and Al'kesh right on our tail.
"Any chance we can get some backup from either the Espers or the Asgard?" asked Rosalie.
"They're all tied up!" said Tia as she consulted her console for communications and sensors. "We're on our own!"
Weapons fire continued to pass us as the ships behind us continued to follow us while Alice swerved us from side to side.
Then a bright green energy beam weapon fired from a different direction at the ships behind us and they were destroyed. The source of the weapon was then revealed.
"It's an Esper ship?" said Matilda curiously. "But it's not one of the war ships from the fleet? That's a smaller long-range scout ship. It's weapons are designed to be formidable enough for the ship to take care of itself in a hostile situation, but my brethren would not use those ships to reinforce this fleet."
"We are being hailed." said Kebi.
"Let's hear it." said Amun.
The holographic screen showed the face of Jonathan's father Erik Morter, and behind him manning a console was the Magician, Arthur Haff.
"Jonathan, what are you doing here?" asked Erik with a strong tone of parental concern.
"I assume you are unaware of the situation, dad?" Jonathan asked in confusion.
"I am well aware of Anubis's actions with the SGC Stargate, you did not need to be on this mission!" said Erik slightly angry. "You could get yourself killed!"
"Master Morter, need I remind you that time is of the essence right now, might we be able to postpone this family squabble until after we have saved Earth!" said Amun trying to return everyone to the matter at hand.
Erik Morter paused for only a brief moment. Then he seemed to think straight again.
"I'll take the lead." said Erik "Cover my flanks."
The transmission then ended.
Both our ships flew in formation and blew away ship after ship in our path with both our ships combined firepower.
The ship then shook really hard from the surrounding weapons fire.
"We're really getting hammered!" said Benjamin. "The shields are good but that won't last forever."
"Transfer power from non-critical systems to shield regeneration?" ordered Amun.
"I've already transferred all power from non-critical systems to the shields recharge rate but it's not helping by much. I would not recommend transferring any power from critical systems." said Tia.
"If we don't transfer power from other critical systems then it won't matter!" said Amun desperately.
"Wait, all you're saying is that we need more power? I got an idea." said Nessie with a look of inspiration in her eye. "Just hang on for a little while longer." she then rushed out of the room.
I ran after her. She went into the room that held the shield generator. She tapped a crystal on a panel and another panel pulled out from beneath a console. She then pulled out two colored crystals and examined them for a fraction of a second, then transferred a third to the position of the first, then transferred a fourth to the position of the third, and she did this for several more crystals. She then ran over to another room that housed the super special Liquid Naquadah Powercore. She touched three more panels, pulled out 10 crystals, replaced six of them in different positions, and she then repositioned the remaining crystals sideways without sticking them in any slots. She then pulled out some form of alien laser tool and aimed the laser at several cross sections of the crystals, where they then seemed to react by the contact to the other crystals. She then ran over to a console and began tapping buttons. It didn't make any sense to me but she seemed to know what she was doing. She reconfigured something within the ship systems. There were then some bright sparks that popped and hissed out of several other crystal panels, and then the liquid Naquadah Powercore began to hum really loud and the surrounding lights became really bright. We then rushed back to the bridge.
"I don't know what she did," said Tia to Amun, "but deflector shields are up at maximum and their strength has increased by three-hundred percent."
Amun had look of shock and surprise on his face.
"Renesmee Cullen, how in the world did you do that?" he said in disbelief.
"Well, I simply reversed the EM field polarity within the ship's main power system capacitors, and then cross-referenced several of your primary shield generator crystals to the recharge rate of the electrical plasma matrix to double the energy output of the Naquadah." she said as though it should make perfect sense.
Amun raised his eyebrow, clearly impressed. I'm sure that Amun would have liked to question her more, but he had no time.
"Super Cannon is fully charged." said Benjamin.
Amun consulted the super ship's schematics briefly then rushed over to Benjamin's station.
"Target these coordinates!" ordered Amun as he stood beside Benjamin and pointed to the target display.
The Super Cannon fired and punched a big hole in a spot.
"The super ship's weapons are losing power." said Kebi.
"We are approaching transporter range of the planet." said Tia.
"Everyone get ready to ring down." said Amun giving instructions. "We got a little over an hour until the Stargate explodes. The ring transporter can only transport five at a time. So everyone arrange yourselves in groups of five. Wait until the transport is complete and step onto the pad and transport again. Once you have transport to the surface clear the ring transporter area. Aro, Isabella, Jonathan Morter, and Leah Clearwater, you four will come with me, we will go first. We will encounter heavy resistance once we materialize on the ring transporter."
