Chapter 9

Sonic stood stiffly, staring at the black night and gripped the phone in his hands. He hadnt known he stopped breathing until his aunt's voice filled his ears once again.

"Sonic?" he heard his aunt ask.

"What do you mean missing?" he choked out.

"The school system showed that she didn't log back in with her card."

"What's that supposed to mean?" he asked in confusion

"Her school has a specialized high top security system, they give you a 'Pass Card' or as the kids call it 'P.C' that tracks your going in and coming out of the school. Her last log in was at around eight-thirty as usual this morning when she came to school, and she hasn't been seen in any of her morning nor afternoon sessions nor is she in the system"

"Well doesn't it say when she logged out?!" he said raising his voice "That should be common sense!"

"That's the issue Sonic, she never did, it only shows the sign in from this morning so the system is telling us that she's still in the school, and none of her friends saw her at lunch either." She panicked. "There's a search going on as we speak, and so far we came up with nothing at the school"

Sonic paced the small room, running his hands nervously through his quills as he thought hard , where on earth could she have gone? What the hell happened?

Sonic then stooped dead, a cold sweat running down his spine.

Did Shadow happen to see them together yesterday? Did he hurt her in a way to get to him? No if he had he would've already threaten him. And the school sounds pretty safe so he couldn't have gotten to her.

"Did you look at her house?" he asked.

His aunt paused before saying anything and sighed.

"H? What are you not telling me?" he asked gently.

"Whose phone are you using?" she asked instead.

"A friend who saved my ass today" he said straight forwardly.

"Language Sonic, saved you from what" she said in a worried tone.

"Just a school fight nothing serious so im using her phone to call you" he said remembering the whole reason why he called her in the first place.

"Sonic! I told you not to get into any more fights! I thought you were getting somewhere with Amy"

"Huh?" he asked stunned.

"Are you and Amy fighting? Is that why she's missing, oh dearGgod I hope she hasn't run away again"

Again? Sonic decided not to ask his aunt about her choice of words.

"Aunt H, first of all, slow the hell down. We're not fighting, I haven't heard from her all day" he said a pang of hurt stinging through him. Why hadn't she called?

"What's the story with this girl now? Who is she and is she there?" sh continued to ramble.

"She stepped out to get us something to eat, I only met her a few minutes ago, she just helped me out nothing serious" he said as calmly as he could, he couldn't tell her that Rosie was familiar, she would kill for details like all girls do.

"Do you have your cell on you?" she asked.

"Yeah I do" he said patting his pockets. He fished out his cell and cursed at the black screen.

"Language young man"

"Yeah, yeah. I have it but its dead" he groaned.

"We'll just have that girl take you home and charge it, I'm sending you some pictures now, and Sonic, make sure someone's with you" she said simply before hanging up.

"That girl? Cheez Aunt H why so violent?" Sonic asked himself.

Sonic continued to stare out the dark window, contemplating why Amy would go missing out of nowhere, who or what would she be running away from? Was it him…?

Amy

As she drove throughout the lit streets of the town, Amy pondered on the best approach she would give to Sonic since he was a new problem in her already complicated escape equation. She needed to figure out who this guy over the phone was, and what was her importance to both him and Pricilla.

After slowing down into the drive-thru, she ordered both meals and dug around her bag to find her purse. Once she found it, she drove to they pay window and paid for both meals and picked them up. She pondered ovr and over whether she should tell Sonic about her, it would make things so much easier for both of them. But how long has she known Sonic, who says he wouldt just turn her in or something?

If Fiona so says that Manic was so horrible to her what makes Sonic any different right?

No.

He was the one who saw her for who she really is, not the money, fame or her looks. He seemed genuine and caring, maybe a little cocky but...hey, that's just who he is..right?

Sonic

As he took the phone from his ear, the door swung open, Rosie wore a big grin on her heart shaped face holding two bags in her arms.

"Are ya hungry?" she smiled, closing the door behind her.

"Starving" he said managing a tight smile.

"Something bugging you?" she asked, concern lacing her tone.

Sonic eyed the short girl, her height was similar too. "C'mre a sec?" he asked in a whisper.

She eyed him awkwardly but walked casualy towards him, her hips swayed gently and her arms were folded, her crystal blue eyes questioning him.

Sonic wrapped his arms around her gently and sighed into her hair. She hesitated but wrapped her tiny arms around his waist, even snuggling a little into his chest.

"My best friend is missing" he choked out.

She stiffened at the words but stayed where she was. "Really? I hope she's okay" she offered. "She your girl?" she asked with her lower lip caught between her teeth.

Sonic smiled into her hair and inhaled slowly. Ames wasn't missing. "I'd like to think that" He released her and found that she was crying.

"Why are you crying?" he asked gently

"I-I don't know, I guess it's just sad ya know? To think about a girl all on her own, and God knows she could be in danger." she sniffed.

"Thanks for worrying Rosie, but I'm sure she's fine, she's a fighter." He promised. Sonic wondered whether saying what was etched into his heart out to her, in order to make her come clean.

"I'm sure she is" she giggled. "Oh! I got your number three" she said wiping her tears and headed to the small table she had placed both meals on.

"And I was thinking on that whole school thing, I think it's a good idea. How much would tuition be? I can get a job so I don't waste my parents money, because I still have to pay for this room until I get an apartment."

"Don't do that" Sonic said sitting into one of the comfortable chairs that seemed to be bolted to the ground.

"Well where else would I live?" she laughed handing him the contents in the bag.

"You can move in with my Aunt, brother and sister, I'm sure you guys would get along just fine"

Amy froze at his words. Sonia was his sister…would she recognize her? Would she talk about the ride she gave her? She wanted to move in with him, but she didn't want to give away her identity jut yet….

"Moving in with a family of strangers?" she laughed awkwardly. "I'm not sure about that Sonic; I just practically got booted out of a family."

"Well, my aunt works in the city and my sister goes to school there as well, so it's usually only my brother and I. You can use my sisters room, I'm sure she wouldn't mind. I'll call her right now"

He took her phone out of the opposite pocket and dialed Sonia's number despite Amy's protests.

"Hello?" his sisters voice strained.

"Sonia? You okay?"

"Sonic! Oh my god I am so, so sorry" she bawled.

Why was she saying sorry?

"Hey, it's okay, Aunt H already told me about it, I was calling to ask about your room."

"What about it?" she sniffed.

"I got a friend who got kicked out from her family and I was wondering if you wanted a sister"

"Oh my gosh yes! Its fine, I have something to look forward to this weekend! Maybe she can help find Amy!"

"Cool, see you on Friday okay?"

"I'll talk to you when I get home" she said sadly.

"Sure thing sis" h said soothingly.

"And just like that, you're in. It's a good thing you didn't unpack huh?" he grinned at the wide-eyed girl.

"Your unbelievable" she whispered.

"So I'm told; nothing new" he grinned. He handed her the phone back. "If you want, you can add their numbers as your first contacts"

"Thanks, I will" she smiled and began punching the buttons on her phone.

Sonic eyed the admiration in her eyes and she glanced up at him, startled, he drew back too suddenly and fell on his back.

"Argh!" he yelled.

"Oh My God are you okay?" Amy rushed towards him, crouching over him. Sonic stared directly at her, his eyes searching her own. Amy blinked and a single drop of water escaped her eyes.

"Im fine" he choked out.

"Here, let me help you" Amy stooped down and hugged his head, placing it carefully on her lap.

"Did you hurt anywhere" she asked petting his head

"No, I just lost my balance, I don't think I disturbed any of my bruises." He sighed. His eyes closed slowly, drinking in her scent, which of course was altered. She smelled like ….baby powder?

"Sonic?" she asked gently

"Hm?" h asked absently

"D-Do you want to go to bed now?"

"Oh! Yeah sure" he winced, aiming to stand up.

"Here" she said helping him up. "Let me help you there" she grunted.

"Careful" he hissed, wobbling to his tired feet. "Were good" he sighed collapsing on the soft bed. Sonic turned his head to find 'Rosie' smilling, glancing away with a blush on her cheeks.

'This girl is something else' he smiled.

"You comfy?" she asked, patting the sheets around his body.

"I would be if you climbed in with me" he smirked.

"I swear you're the worst tease I've ever met in my life" she giggled.

'Good, she's not upset' he thought.

"I'm sleeping on the love seat" she pointed to the small loveseat in front of the bed. She had pillows and a thin sheet there already.

He arched a brow and stared at her in disbelief. "Your passing up this warm bed for a complaining couch?" he asked

"You're the one injured here remember?" she asked giving him a flick to the forehead.

"Head shot" he wailed collapsing on his pillow. A smile curved his lips as her laugh echoed throughout the small room; Amy's laugh. He had no idea whaat the hell he was doing, this was definitely not how he behaved with Fiona, or any girl he's been with...its freaky but hearing her laugh..and that smile...

"Keep your hands to yourself, hedgehog" she warned, letting his nickname slip from her lips. Sonic didn't comment on it though, he'll catch her soon enough. She climbed in and settled next to him before reaching across her side of the bed and turning the lamp off.

"Can you do mine, I'm a little…er stuck" he said with his sweat dropped. He a needed to heal…and fast.

"Sure" she said and reached over him, her soft body pressing into his and automatically both hedgehogs froze. Sonic could hear Amy's staggered breathing as clear as he could hear his own heart reacting to her presence.

"U-uh, N-night" she said suddenly clicking the light off, backing away Sonic knew he wouldn't have another chance like this, so he absently grabbed her arm and pulled her down to him, embracing her on his throbbing chest.

"S-Sonic?!" she asked, placing her soft hands on his waist.

"I-I just needed this" he said lamely "Don't feel weird cuz I don't, just…stay?" he tried lamely.

He heard her breath hitching, and felt a small smile spread across her lips on his chest. Her hands encircled his waist and he released a breath he hadn't realized he was holding, and tightened his hold on her.

"You're the worst tease I've ever met" she whispered.

"So you tell me." He chuckled at her.
