A/N: Back again! So proud of myself for making time to get back into fanfiction again! Like I said before I've been trying to write my own novel, but I'm stuck at the moment and felt burnt out from writing. These stories at least let me practice my writing while reminding me how much I love to write. I hope you enjoy this next installment.
Also, thanks for the support from the follows, favorites, and reviews! They mean so much to me, and I'm so happy many of you came out to support the last chapter after such a long hiatus. Your support fuels my drive to continue writing and reminds me that I am pretty good at it, too.
Enjoy!
The sun's rays shined brightly against Rin's eyelids as she stubbornly turned her face away from the light, not wanting to wake up just yet. Her bed was so comfortable, and she hadn't slept so well in a long time. In fact, she hadn't felt so relaxed in a long time, either. She didn't want to think about it long, the promise of sleep was far more inviting.
Unfortunately, her mind had decided that she was awake, and that she was only wasting time pretending to be asleep. She let out a defeated sigh before she slowly opened her eyes. She blinked in surprise when she didn't immediately recognize her surroundings.
I'm not in my room, she thought before memories of the night before flooded her mind. That's right, this is Sesshomaru's apartment, she reminded herself before she slowly rose to a sitting position on the bed. She glanced around the room, and sadly noticed that it was rather empty. She had hoped the items he kept in his room would have given her some insight into the person it belonged to.
There weren't any posters or paintings hung, potted plants on the windowsill, or even loose papers from work on the floor. It held only the bare necessities, and was so clean that Rin wondered if Sesshomaru spent much time in it. Either that, or he was very organized. Rin figured both could be true, too. The thought made her realize that she still didn't really know much about Sesshomaru.
Her gaze faltered on the bed when she noticed the man consuming her thoughts was resting peacefully on the spot next to her. Frankly, she was surprised she hadn't noticed him first. He was lying on his side, one arm tucked under his pillow while the other was outstretched towards her spot on the bed.
His relaxed position on the bed was a far cry from the stern and professional image she had of him in her mind and on a daily basis. His long silvery hair cascaded down the lines of his face and tall frame. The long strands didn't look tousled from moving during the night. She wondered if he slept in the same spot the whole night.
As she continued to study him, Rin felt like she was getting a more intimate view of Sesshomaru in such a vulnerable state. Almost as if she were his lover. Her cheeks flushed at the thought before she immediately pushed it to the back of her mind and turned her gaze away from Sesshomaru.
Nothing happened between them, sexually at least. Of that she was certain, but Rin knew something even bigger than sex happened between them last night. They had shared an intimacy that went beyond the physicality of sex. She had finally found her voice, and she felt her cheeks flush in embarrassment when she remembered exactly why it happened.
She had had a flashback. A flashback to that time. A time in her life she thought she had repressed since going through a similar ordeal with Kagome a few years before. The memory had been so vivid, and her fear had been so real that Rin momentarily forgot where she was. She wasn't in Sesshomaru's apartment, at the University or even a college student anymore. She had been eight years old again.
Rin shut her eyes as she tried to control her breathing that had begun to turn ragged. She cursed silently, angry at herself for letting a memory affect her so much. She thought she had overcome it after opening up to Kagome and seeking professional counseling. Kagome had gone with her to every session with the psychiatrist, acting as her spokesperson whenever the therapist asked her a question.
They had been making leeway, not enough to help Rin overcome her muteness, but enough to give her peace of mind. However, Rin wasn't so sure if she was as strong as she thought she was back then. The way she acted last night made her think that she hadn't recovered at all. The man that had taken her parents and part of her soul that night still had a hold on her.
She gravely turned her gaze back to Sesshomaru as she remembered losing it in front of him. Because for those brief moments, minutes or hours...he hadn't been Sesshomaru. She felt tears prick the edges of her eyes as she recalled how violent she had been when he tried to calm her.
His clothes were too conservative for her to see if she had drawn blood or bruised him while she had clawed, kicked and punched him. She knew she would feel guilty even if there weren't any remaining signs of last night.
She had lashed out at someone trying to help her. The realization ate away at Rin as she looked away from Sesshomaru and hurriedly got out of bed. She had to leave now. There was no way she could impose on her professor. Not after the way she acted last night.
She briskly walked out of the bedroom and found herself in the kitchen. She'd look for something to write on to leave him a thank you note. It was the least she could do. After her display she'd have to drop his class, and possibly transfer out of the University. She wanted to stay, but she couldn't rightfully burden Sesshomaru with her issues. Leaving would also solve the problem she had with Kasai.
She looked around for any piece of scrap paper and something to write with as she recalled more from the night before. She had already been on edge after the traumatic experience with Kasai, and felt that her flashback was the last thing that pushed her over the edge. She had been such a wreck over Kasai and her odd predicament with staying at her professor's spare apartment that she had trouble even undressing herself.
She hadn't been able to button her top completely because her fingers wouldn't cooperate, and she had decided to put some pants on instead. However, she shook so badly that she missed putting her foot in the right leg hole of the pajama bottoms, and tripped over them instead. Sesshomaru had rushed to help her, probably figuring the worst had happened.
Unfortunately, Rin hadn't seen her professor at the door when he flung it open and stood over her. She saw the man who had killed her parents and nearly killed her standing there instead. The way Sesshomaru had stood and Rin's current position on the floor practically mirrored the position Rin had been in nearly eleven years ago. The sight had triggered Rin's memory of that night, and when Sesshomaru grabbed her, all Rin saw and felt was what that man had done to her.
Rin had let her fear consume her so completely that she had been blinded by it, and lashed out against Sesshomaru as if he were her attacker. All she could think about was getting away so the man from her past could never hurt her again, and leave her bruised and bloody on the floor for the police to find later. Rin bit her lip until it drew blood to keep her sobs at bay as a trail of tears soaking her cheeks. She only allowed a stray sniffle to fill the apartment as she continued her search for a piece of paper.
She opened drawer after drawer with little luck. It wasn't until she passed the fridge that she noticed a dry erase board magnetized to the steel appliance. A short to-do list was written on the top half of the board. Get food, was all that was written under the 'to-do' label printed at the top.
Rin smiled slightly, reveling that Sesshomaru didn't need to list out all that he needed to get in detail. Rin always dragged a laundry list of items because she knew she'd forget one or two vital things if she didn't. She grabbed the dry erase marked attached to the top of the board before she began to write her message.
Dear Dr. Taisho,
Thank for you protecting me from Kasai, and for watching over me last night. I think it would be best if I left the University. I won't bother you again, and I won't tell anyone about what I saw, either. It would help both of us if I'm not a –
"Planning on sneaking out without saying goodbye?" Sesshomaru's deep voice surprised Rin as she stopped writing and whirled around to spot her professor standing in the kitchen with his arms crossed over his chest. He wasn't wearing the clothes from the night before, but a plain grey T-shirt and black sweats instead. He must have changed in his room before he went to find her, and Rin admitted it was odd seeing him in such casual wear. She assumed Sesshomaru only owned suits and dress clothes.
"I – I think it would be for the best," Rin replied, and was surprised her voice came out at all. When she had a similar episode with Kagome a few years before, it had taken her a few more weeks to find her voice again.
"Hm," Sesshomaru grunted in reply before he walked towards her, cornering her against the fridge. Rin plastered her body against the appliance as she tried to make herself as small as she could. When she thought Sesshomaru might try to grab her, he surprised her and took the magnet dry erase board from her instead.
"'Dear Dr. Taisho,'" he began reading her message aloud, and Rin's cheeks burned at hearing her words through his voice, "'Thank for you protecting me from Kasai, and for watching over me last night. I think it would be best if I left the University. I won't bother you again, and I won't tell anyone about what I saw, either. It would help both of us if I'm not a – '"
"You didn't finish it," he pointed out at the very end before his golden gaze found her cinnamon one. Rin shook her head in reply before she gave a start when Sesshomaru leaned his body closer towards her, but only to put the dry erase board back on the refrigerator. He stepped away immediately to put some space between them.
"If you want to leave, then I won't stop you," Sesshomaru said, "but know that you can't run forever, Rin. Kasai, or whatever happened in your past, will catch up with you eventually. Unless you do something about it," Rin held Sesshomaru's gaze in her own as she studied his stoic expression, looking for the meaning behind his words. Was he offering to help her? Or just offering her a parting piece of advice?
"I won't ask you to tell me what happened to you," Sesshomaru assured her, "you can tell me when you feel comfortable doing so, but I do expect you to keep my secret to yourself. Only a select few know what I really am, and I prefer to keep it that way," he added, and Rin nodded in understanding. She knew that leaking any information that wasn't human always stirred a panic. If anyone even believed her. By anyone she meant Kagome, since she'd be the only one Rin could really talk to about him.
"I'll try to keep Kasai at bay to the best of my abilities," he continued, "but I will leave his fate in your hands. You have to be the one to press criminal charges against him,"
"I...understand," Rin replied quietly, "...thank you," she added timidly.
"You're welcome," Sesshomaru answered before he reached for something in his pocket, "take this spare key with you. It'll get you past the security gate and into the apartment. You can come and go as you please,"
Rin gazed at the key in his hand warily before she took it and stuck it in her jean pocket. She appreciated his offer, she really did, but she couldn't help but feel like she was still being a burden.
"Think of it as a sign of trust," Sesshomaru stated, as if reading her thoughts, "I'm offering you a safe place to stay, but I'm also trusting that you won't steal anything or run away,"
"I – I don't deserve your kindness," Rin blurted out before she bit her lower lip to stop it from trembling, "last night – what I did to you...I hurt you,"
"Hn," Sesshomaru grunted in reply, "Hurt me? Don't think so highly of yourself," he warned, the sudden iciness of his tone reminding Rin what he really was, and it sent shivers down her spine. Her head shot up as she stared at his face with widened eyes. His expression remained solemn as he continued,
"A mere human could do nothing to my body, regardless of how 'powerful' they might think they are,"
Rin opened her mouth to counter his words, but paused when another thought entered her mind. His words sounded harsh, but was his actual intention to stop her from worrying over what she had done to him? She mulled over the possibility for a moment as she studied the man before her. While his words made it sound like he was belittling her for being human, was he really trying to comfort her in his own way?
Rin merely nodded in reply before she adverted her eyes, unsure of how she felt about this new information. She was merely assuming these things about him. She didn't know Sesshomaru enough as a person to guarantee what she thought was true.
"I'm glad," Rin stated suddenly in a whisper as her eyes watered with unshed tears, "I'm glad that...you didn't leave me," she knew it sounded like she only meant it for him staying with her through the night. But she hoped he understood that she also meant it for him never giving up on her, from the very beginning.
Her mutism tended to drive most people away, and yet Sesshomaru never let it affect the way he thought about her. He had still developed a bond with her, albeit a bit one-sided on the conversational level, and still cared about her well-being enough to risk his own. Even if he tried to hide it behind harsh words. Rin smiled slightly at the revelation.
Sesshomaru raised his hand before he gently rested it atop Rin's head, "Your voice...sounds nice," Rin lifted her head up slightly to gaze back at Sesshomaru with surprise. He thought her voice sounded nice? It was a rather random admission, but Rin felt her cheeks flush at the compliment.
She was so accustomed to her mutism acting as her shield that she had started hating the sound of her own voice. Her fear of using it around others had created a warped reality in her mind. She genuinely thought she didn't deserve to speak. But Sesshomaru's words cleared the fog that had collected around her mind, and let her appreciate something about herself for the first time.
"You should use it more often, even if it's only around me," he added softly. Rin smiled before she nodded,
"I'll try...so long as it's around you," she promised.
"Good," he replied, and Rin noticed the slightest of smirks tug at the ends of his lips. His hand moved from the top of her head to caress the side of her face delicately as he curled a strand of her hair around his finger. Rin was surprised when she noticed that she wasn't shrinking away from his touch.
Normally, such an intimate display would make her feel uncomfortable, but Rin didn't fear Sesshomaru's touch. His actions felt like a genuine display of his concern for her rather than in sexual pursuit of her body, and Rin reveled in how good knowing that made her feel.
A silence fell between the two, but it wasn't unwelcome. Rin felt safest in Sesshomaru's presence, and assumed that she must have known that from the start. It explained why she always seemed to be drawn to him, especially when she felt like she was in danger.
Sesshomaru broke the silence by softly clearing his throat as he detangled his finger from her hair and let his hand fall to his side. He adverted his eyes slightly, as if just realizing that they had been staring at each other in silence while he played with her hair. Rin had never seen her professor look so unsure before. It was kind of cute.
"Would...would you mind if I stayed a little longer?" Rin asked hesitantly. Sesshomaru's eyes softened slightly before he replied,
"Not at all,"
Kohaku huffed as he steadied himself, all of the muscles in his body screaming for him to stop. But he couldn't stop. If he did, he'd be dead.
"Are you ready to give up?" Kagura pouted teasingly before she hid half of her face with her fan, "you aren't going to be much of a demon slayer if you're killed by the first demon you picked a fight with,"
"I'm not giving up!" Kohaku barked back at the demon before he wiped the sweat off his brow with a quick swipe of his arm.
"Admit it, you're too tired to go on," Kagura insisted, and he could hear the smug smile in her voice, "you're barely able to stand. You might have received some training, but it wasn't enough. You clearly weren't trained by a demon,"
"Why does it matter if I was trained by a demon or not?" Kohaku heaved as he laid against the nearest wall, thankful for the support. He used the precious seconds of distraction to gulp in as much air as he could. Kagura's many undead soldiers remained motionless around him, awaiting their mistress' next order.
"To most humans, demons are only folklore. A mythical creature that may or may not exist, depending on who you talk to. A demon slayer cannot prepare for something that they do not understand. Therefore, only a demon can adequately prepare and train a demon slayer. How else are you going to defeat a demon?"
"My sister is a great demon slayer, and she trained me! Obviously she knows enough about demons to be able to train other demon slayers," Kohaku fought back, taking Kagura's comment a bit too personally.
He might be angry at his sister for what she said about Rin, but in the end she was still his sister. She was always the one looking out for him, providing for him, and making sure he was alright. She was the reliable and skilled warrior who trained him night and day for a world that most didn't know existed. He hadn't even known this world existed until recently. If she had survived this long fighting off demons like Kagura, then he could do the same.
Why she kept most of what a demon slayer truly was a secret, he would never know, but he could trust that she did it for a good reason. Sango trained him so that he could defend himself if he were ever in a dire situation, but she didn't want him immersed in her world. Maybe that's why she never revealed too much about the life of a demon slayer to him.
"Oh, is that right?" Kagura raised her brows, feigning her surprise, "if she were as skilled as you say, then you should be able to kill me without much difficulty. Unless, perhaps it isn't your training that is laking, but your skill as a demon slayer,"
Kohaku ground his teeth together as he tried to calm his escalating anger. He knew Kagura was trying to infuriate him on purpose. She wanted him to slip up so she could end him quickly. He wouldn't give her the satisfaction.
One of Sango's first lessons was to control emotions. Strong emotions were the cause of fatal mistakes. The many bruises and broken bones he received during Sango's strict training were proof of her philosophy. When he let his emotions get the better of him, he left himself wide open to the opponent's attack.
He shut his eyes briefly as he slowed his breathing until he found his inner focus. It only took a moment, but it helped alleviate the anger that had clouded his judgement. He let out a long breath before he opened his eyes once again.
His eyes shifted from one standing dead body to the next. Many were missing limbs because of him, but they kept coming after him despite it. The smell of formaldehyde wafted off their bodies like perfume, and was so strong that Kohaku almost gagged. When he thought he finally took one down, the body simply rose from the ground and continued to pursue him, even if it was missing a few body parts. While Kagura held her control over her cadaver collection, she was practically invincible.
"No response? Do you agree with me?" Kagura pressed, a knowing twinkle in her crimson eyes, "Or, are you ready to take me seriously?"
Kohaku didn't reply, but simply pushed himself off the wall and locked his gaze with hers. His mind was clear, and his objective was simple. If he was going to stop her dead army, he'd have to stop her first.
"You have a pleasing look in your eyes. That's the kind of determination I like to see," Kagura praised as she readied her fan, "Come at me," she ordered, the teasing gone from her voice.
She wasn't going to go easy on him. He didn't want her to.
Kohaku took a deep breath before he let out an aggressive cry as he jumped towards the demon.
"Jeez, Rin! Do you ever check your phone?" Kagome asked her friend exasperatedly as she pulled the younger girl into a fierce hug, "You have no idea how close I was to filing a missing person report with the police! This disappearing for hours at a time act has got to stop. I don't think I'm going to live much longer if you keep doing this to me," she added as her body shook against Rin's.
Rin returned her friend's embrace as she looked at the floor of their living room guiltily. She couldn't believe she forgot to tell Kagome what happened the night before, and that she wouldn't be coming back to the apartment. She must have been so worried about me, Rin thought sadly.
Kagome held her close for a few more seconds before she pulled away so she could give Rin a once over, taking in her current state and trying to read the shifting expressions that passed over her face. "I'm sorry," Rin murmured, truly sorry for letting her friend worry over her.
"What happened? Where did you sleep?" Kagome pressed as she continued to search Rin's face earnestly for any clues. Rin wanted to tell her that it was a long story, and just drop the subject. But she couldn't do that to her best friend.
"I...I was attacked last night," Rin started, and paused when she saw the horror that crossed Kagome's face, "I'm fine! I was saved before anything bad happened, and my savior let me stay at his place while he watched over me in case the man that attacked me tried to follow us and attack me again,"
"Oh my god! Was it the same man that attacked you before?" Kagome asked, and her expression turned grim when Rin nodded, "Rin, we have to go to the police. This man is purposely targeting you," she urged, her lips pressed into a fine line.
"I know," Rin answered.
"I'll call and make the report," Kagome offered, but Rin shook her head.
"No. I should be the one who files the report," Rin replied, and felt her throat begin to close at the thought. She was afraid, like always. But something felt different. She still felt the fear turn her stomach, but she was genuinely surprised that she actually stood up for herself and was taking responsibility of the situation.
Sesshomaru's words of advice rang in her mind, and she supposed those words were what gave her courage. He was right, she couldn't run from her life anymore. She needed to start defending herself, and taking responsibility for her own wellbeing.
Kagome seemed to be just as surprised by her admission, but didn't argue against it. In fact, Rin noticed a respectful glint in her friend's eyes as she surveyed her proudly. Rin wrung her hands together nervously before she reached for her cell phone in her backpack.
She took a breath to steady her breathing before she dialed the number for the police department. Her heartbeat quickened as she listened to the rings until a person on the other side of the line picked up.
"You've reached the police department, what is your emergency?" a female voice greeted in a brash voice. Rin could feel her throat closing as she struggled to speak. Suddenly, she recited Sesshomaru's words in her mind again and felt her body relax. Even though he wasn't there with her, she felt his calming presence simply by thinking about him.
She cleared her throat before she forced herself to respond, "I – I was just attacked, and I want to file a police report," she began, her voice trembling uncontrollably. While she knew it sounded like she was afraid to the woman on the phone, Rin felt proud that she actually got a sentence out to someone she didn't know. It had been so long since she felt the freedom to speak, and it felt wonderful.
"Are you alright?" the woman asked, the worry evident in her voice, "If you need medical attention, I can send an ambulance to your location,"
"N – No, I'm alright," Rin assured her before she took in a shaky breath, and turned towards Kagome to see her give a reassuring smile before she continued, "I was able to get away, but this isn't the first time it has happened. This man has...attacked me before,"
"Have you filed a previous report on this person?" the officer asked as the sound of shuffling papers and frantic typing on a keyboard resounded from the other side of the phone.
"My friend filed a report for me a few weeks ago. I...I wasn't stable enough to speak at the time,"
"Understandable," the officer assured her gently before her tone hardened once again, "what is the name of your attacker or your friend's name that filed the first report? I will be able to compare information from both incidents if I can find the first report,"
"My friend's name is Kagome Higurashi. The man who attacked me is Kasai – " Rin paused when she realized she didn't know Kasai's last name. She couldn't remember if he formally introduced himself to her before or not, "I'm sorry, I don't know his last name," Rin finished apologetically.
"That's not a problem. You're friend's full name was enough to pull up the previous file," the officer reported, "I'm sorry to ask this, Rin, but could you describe to me what happened to you? Use as much detail as you can remember," the woman coaxed her gently.
"I – I was walking home from class when my classmate, Kasai, stopped me. He was with some other men I did not recognize. They looked older than us. I'm not even sure if they were University students. They cornered me behind the building and tried to force me to go with them somewhere. I refused and Kasai got angry..." Rin described the events as best she could, leaving out any recollections of the men changing forms or Sesshomaru changing forms.
"My professor was leaving the building as well, and stopped Kasai and the others from attacking me," she finished. There was a brief silence before the officer's voice returned,
"What is the name of your professor?" she asked, "he should have been the first one to report such an incident,"
"Dr. Sesshomaru Taisho, and I asked him not to report it," Rin replied quickly, not wanting to get Sesshomaru in any trouble, "I wanted to be the one to do it. He agreed to wait until I was ready to report the incident,"
"Well that was kind of him to abide by your wishes, but he still should have reported something. It's his responsibility as a professor to protect his students," the officer retorted, "we'll have to send an officer to question him, and get his side of the story,"
"He isn't in trouble, is he?" Rin asked, "he saved my life," she added pleadingly.
"He won't be in any trouble, so long as he doesn't have any reason to be. If he answers all our questions and his story matches yours, then there is nothing to worry about," the officer assured her. Rin took in a shaky breath before she nodded.
"Yes, of course," Rin added quickly, realizing the woman wouldn't be able to see her nod her head in affirmation.
"Are you with someone now? Do you feel safe?" the officer asked.
"Yes, I'm in my apartment with my roommate," Rin replied as she cast another thankful glance in Kagome's direction, "I feel very safe," she confirmed.
"Good. We will assign your case to one of our officers right away. We will do all we can to ensure your safety and the capture of the man who attacked you. I'd also like to assign an officer to watch your apartment building in the evenings, would you be comfortable with that?"
"Yes," Rin answered, comforted by the fact that there would be someone stationed by her building at night.
"Alright. Your friend left the address for an apartment building when she filed the first report. Is that address still accurate?" the officer asked.
"Yes, it is," Rin affirmed.
"Good. I shouldn't need any more information from you at this point. Would you like any information for support groups or numbers for any hotlines?" the officer offered gently.
"No thank you," Rin declined kindly, knowing full well she wouldn't utilize any of the resource she gave her.
"Alright. The officer assigned to your case will drop by your apartment later today, and stand guard this evening. Thank you for reporting this incident to the police. We will do all we can for you. Call if your attacker attempts anything against you," the officer advised before they exchanged polite goodbyes and Rin hung up the phone.
Her body visibly shuddered, her white knuckled grip shaking against the cell phone. Kagome quickly gathered Rin in her arms as she slowly began stroking her hair, "That was so brave, Rin. I'm so proud of you," she murmured against her friend's hair as Rin returned her embrace tightly.
"Thank you," Rin murmured, thankful that she had Kagome with her. It helped having someone there to comfort her after such a stressful ordeal. "The officer told me she'd assign someone to my case soon, and that an officer is going to watch the apartment for the next few nights until Kasai is captured," Rin informed her.
"That's great!" Kagome answered as the girls pulled away to look at one another, "Kasai won't be able to hurt you anymore. Things will work out, I just know it," she assured Rin, and she smiled as Kagome rubbed her shoulders to relax her tense form.
"Yes, they will," Rin replied, although didn't feel as confident as she sounded. There was so much the police and Kagome didn't know about Kasai. What he was capable of. Rin feared that what she and Sesshomaru saw may have only been a small portion of what Kasai could do. What if they didn't even know what he'd do? What measures he'd take to get to her.
"So...your savior was Sesshomaru Taisho, huh?" Kagome brought up as Rin glanced back at her in surprise.
"You said his name while talking on the phone," Kagome told her before she gave Rin another once over, "So, does that mean you stayed over at his place last night?" Rin shyly nodded.
"He doesn't seem the type but...he didn't try anything with you, did he?" Kagome asked and Rin hurriedly shook her head.
"He offered me his room and slept on his couch in the spare apartment above the museum. He gave me a spare key so I could use the apartment if I was afraid to go home, or needed to be somewhere else,"
"That might come in handy, especially if Kasai tries to get to you here," Kagome nodded, but faltered slightly, "I just hope Sesshomaru doesn't have any other intention for helping you. He's Inuyasha's half-brother, and seemed decent despite being rather standoffish. But I've only met him a couple of times, so I don't know if he can be completely trusted," she added worriedly, "But if you trust him...then I guess I can too,"
"I do trust him," Rin told her firmly, slightly surprised by her own confidence. Sesshomaru was a demon. She should be terrified of him. But instead, he sent a calming sense through her that she couldn't find any reason to fear him.
"I'm able to talk to him, too" Rin added and Kagome's eyes widened slightly.
"Really? That's wonderful!" Kagome beamed before she playfully smirked at her, "Does that mean I have some competition for your affections then? I better not be number two just because your sexy professor gets you talking," she teased.
"Of course not!" Rin assured her, "you're still my best friend, so you'll always be number one!" Rin added before she laughed when Kagome didn't look very convinced.
"Yeah, yeah. You say that now, but we'll see how long you last when your relationship with Sesshomaru progresses," Kagome retorted knowingly and Rin's cheeks flushed.
"'Progresses?' Who says it's going to go anywhere?" Rin asked, trying to hide her embarrassment.
"I've seen and read enough teacher/student fantasies to know where this is going," Kagome teased before she laughed when Rin lightly shoved her with a slight pout and reddened cheeks.
"It's not like that! He's nice to me, but that's it. I doubt he'd even be interested in me," Rin replied, not liking how she didn't immediately reject the idea of progressing with Sesshomaru. What was she thinking? He was her professor! His intentions were purely platonic. Any teacher would have done the same for their students, wouldn't they?
"I never imagined you'd get involved in such a risque relationship in your first year of college," Kagome continued to tease before she waved off Rin's horrified expression, "I'm only teasing! It's kinda nice to laugh like this with you," she added happily, and Rin paused at that. It was true, it did feel nice to laugh and joke around. Like normal girls, Rin thought before a genuine smile brightened her features.
"Yeah, it is nice,"
Whoop whoop! Finished this next installment. Thank you for sticking with this story, and waiting so patiently! Hopefully I'll get my butt in gear and get more chapters out to you soon. Until next time!
