AN: I'm back with another installment of Frozen As It Should Have Been Season 2. In which, the trek begins for Anna. Frozen is owned and operated by The Walt Disney Company
"All right, all right, I'm coming!" Kristoff all but yelled as he approached the stable door. He opened it to find Elsa standing outside, tapping her heel.
"Finally, I was beginning to think you weren't going to show up", she stated.
"Trust me, the only deliveries I make now are just water runs", Kristoff stated. He then asked, "Speaking of which, does it normally get this hot during the summers?"
"No. Anna ran away and now she caused an eternal summer", Elsa explained.
"Any plans to find her, much less knowing where she ran off to?"
"I know she went into the forest but that's about it."
"I'll hook up the transport but we'd have to go at an even pace as to not exhaust him", Kristoff stated. Elsa's next stop was the servant quarters, where as much as someone needed to stay behind to look after the kingdom in the interim, she couldn't risk the possibility that if Hans stayed behind, he might run another coup attempt, given that the few times she saw him, he seemed rather happy and did everything assigned to him with eagerness and without complaints, but how much of it was a front and just a time bide was unknown and she was not about to find out. She knocked on the door and received an answer from her most trusted manservant.
"Your majesty! What is it you desire?" he asked.
"Is Hans in?"
"No, he isn't"
"Can you send a message when he comes back?"
"Sure."
"Can you tell him to meet me at the stables?"
"Yes, but your majesty, who will look after the kingdom in your absence?"
"You are", then Elsa whispered into his ear. "Mostly because I'm afraid that if Hans did, he'd run another coup attempt. If I take him with me, it will get him away from the kingdom". The manservant smiled and composed the message while Elsa returned to the stables, where Kristoff was waiting for her, sleigh hooked up.
"All set, your majesty?"
"Not yet, we still need to wait for Hans"
"That ratbag's joining us?"
"Yes, because I don't trust him to look after the kingdom while we're gone", she stated. Kristoff shrugged and tossed the last few remaining supplies into the sleigh. Just then, another knock sounded on the stable and Elsa went to open it and sure enough, it was Hans, looking more like he was polishing some of the furniture in the palace.
"I got your message and came as soon as I heard", he stated. "It's getting hotter outside by the second", he also added as he approached the sleigh.
"Did you pack whatever you might need?" Elsa inquired.
"No. I only have what they sent me with", Hans stated and forfeited his rucksack to a still-skeptical Elsa, who looked through it. She didn't see anything TOO suspicious, only seeing the clothes on his back and whatever essentials he might have needed to serve out the remainder of his punishment. His sword had been confiscated upon his return to the Isles and he wasn't given it back out of fear he would attempt another assassination attempt on the royals.
"All righty then", the three climbed into the sleigh, Kristoff smacked the reins and the transport took off, starting very slow but they began to pick up pace once they got into the forest. Forests, by nature, were naturally cooler than the inner kingdom. Kristoff turned to Elsa. "You said she ran into the forest, right?" Elsa nodded. "I'm not seeing anything", Kristoff then turned to Hans. "Oy, sideburns, you see a little hamlet or a cave?" Hans did a quick scan of the territory and shook his head. Suddenly, Elsa sniffed the air and eventually caught a whiff of a fire burning somewhere.
"Straight ahead", she ordered. Kristoff shook the reins and they headed forward, making the journey half on transport and half on foot. Eventually, night fell and the odd trio found themselves in a cave for a campsite.
"Speaking of which, why did Anna run off?" Hans inquired. Elsa glared at him.
"Because she was afraid", she stated.
"Afraid of what?"
"Afraid of hurting me", she finished, slumping against the cave wall. Once it was apparent that everyone was settled, Kristoff blew out the lantern they had been using for light and everyone slept soundly.
Next morning, everyone was well-rested and the trek was ready to resume. Kristoff wanted to start early so they could get to Anna's location before the hottest part of the day struck. He also figured using the transport would make them get there slightly faster. Everyone agreed and soon, they were back onto the trail again. They did not know where they were going, only they had to find Anna before something bad happened to either her or them on the way up. A couple hours passed and Elsa was feeling antsy. Kristoff didn't notice as he was too focused on the trail ahead and was pleased to see they were entering the mountainous territory. Hans poked her.
"You alright?" he asked. Elsa shook her head.
"No, I'm not alright", she stated in the barest amount of words possible. She was too embarrassed to admit to him she needed a rest stop. When she and Anna were younger, if they were playing outside and eventually had to use the bathroom, they would just go outside because it would beat racing for the bathroom and run the risk of it being occupied. Hans tapped Kristoff on the shoulder.
"Oy, reindeer boy, we gonna break?" Kristoff shook the reins as a signal to stop the transport and realigned himself to look at Hans, even though it pained him to do so, considering the man had him arrested.
"Is there a need to do so?"
"Well, um", Hans scratched the back of his head, "Elsa has an emergency", he finally stated.
"What kind?", then Elsa finally spoke up.
"I need a rest stop", she stated. Kristoff rolled his eyes.
"Why didn't you speak up in the first place?"
"Because I was embarrassed. Being the only girl in a two-man group. Besides, Anna and I would always go outside if we were playing", Elsa stated. Kristoff pulled the sled over so that Elsa could disembark and find a secluded spot somewhere to relieve herself out of their sight.
Eventually, Elsa found a spot far enough away from the sled to ensure privacy. Positioning herself against a tree, she undid her pants and tossed them aside, spread her legs and let loose. After finishing up, she laid against the tree in a bliss before getting and putting her pants back on. When she returned to the sled, Kristoff had been judging the estimated distance from where they were to Anna's apparent hideaway. "It should be a little bit more closer", he stated as Hans helped Elsa back into the sled.
"Do you think we could walk from here?" Elsa inquired. Kristoff shrugged and shook his head.
"No can do. Her hideaway is still too far for us to go on foot. We need to keep going", and with that, he smacked the reins and took off. Eventually, they got to a spot where Anna's hideaway was visible. Kristoff parked the sleigh behind a portpice of the mountain and him and Hans made the move to follow Elsa when she disembarked. She only let them follow her to the fiery palace itself. Elsa approached the door and started to knock, but the door opened on its' own, almost as if Anna was expecting Elsa.
"It opened, that's a first", she stated. She then turned to the boys. "Give me an hour. If I'm not out in an hour or I get seriously hurt, come in and get me." They nodded and sat down while Elsa went inside. The palace, despite being made of fire, was stunning to the point even where Elsa was amazed. She never gotten to the point of making palaces out of ice and the farthest she got was making living snowmen, both of whom resided in the castle in an area Elsa designated to be kept as cold as possible. "Anna? Anna, are you in here?" she called.
"Elsa?" a voice asked, and seconds later, Anna emerged, clad in a sparkly red dress. Again, Elsa never got around to making actual clothing.
"Anna! You're okay!" Elsa ran towards her, but Anna backed away.
"No!" Elsa saw this and stopped where she was at. "Why are you here?", Anna demanded.
"I came to take you back."
"That's nice of you, Elsa, but I think I should stay here, where I can be who I am, without hurting anybody. Please, go back home Elsa, your life awaits", Anna stated. Elsa gulped.
"Anna, when you left, you set off an eternal summer everywhere", she dropped the bomb. Anna froze in her place
"Wait, what?"
"You set off an eternal summer, Anna! We have to go back so you can fix it!"
"I can't! I don't know how!"
"Think happy thoughts, Anna! Your powers are on the same wavelength as mine are! They are tied to your emotions!" Elsa stated, but Anna's fear was too strong and a burst of flame shot out of her. Elsa saw this and jumped out of the way JUST in time. The flame hit the spot where Elsa stood and melted into the ground.
"I'm dangerous, Elsa! Don't you see? Arendelle will be better off with someone with powers that create things that are beautiful, not ones that destroy things! I'm sorry, Elsa but you wasted your time coming up here" Anna lamented.
"Anna, your powers ARE beautiful and somewhere inside that burning heart is someone who taught me that life's only worth living when it's not being lived in fear and I came all this way to rescue that person, because I believed her", Elsa said. When Anna still hesitated, Elsa turned on her heel and turned to the door. "If this is what you want, Anna, I'll send you an owl tomorrow", Elsa stated and exited the palace.
"Elsa", Anna said but Elsa had already disappeared, having headed to Kristoff's sled.
"So, how did go, Elsa?" Kristoff asked. Him and Hans had been playing whist, a popular card game in Arendelle.
"Start her up", she said grimly.
"Him actually. But what about Anna?"
"She's not coming with us." Kristoff shrugged and shook the reins and the reindeer began pulling the sleigh down the mountain. Meanwhile, inside her palace, Anna was pacing, clearly showing regret for her prior actions.
"Somewhere inside that burning heart is someone who taught me that life's only worth living when it's not being lived in fear and I came all this way to rescue that person, because I BELIEVED HER", Elsa's voice stated. Anna knew Elsa was right and thought back to their childhood. There were times where Elsa almost did isolate herself out of fear of her powers and the stuff she might do but what kept her grounded was the support she had in their parents and Anna. Anna kept Elsa grounded and now it was Elsa's turn to keep Anna's powers in check.
"Your powers are on the same wavelength as mine!" Elsa's voice stated. Anna turned and saw a vision of herself, naked and curled up in a fetal position as she pondered Elsa's words. Finally, she got it: Elsa would not have come up all this way if she didn't CARE about Anna. She was never alone in this and she was wrong to push her away. Being descended from elemental guardians was a BLESSING, not a CURSE. While Elsa was Snow Queen of Arendelle, she was Anna, Fire Princess. Anna took off out of her palace, intending to catch Elsa before the sleigh got too far.
"Elsa! Wait! I'm coming with you!" she shouted, but her epiphany came too late. Elsa, Kristoff and Hans were too far ahead to turn around, leaving her stranded in the forest.
AN: That's it! That's it! Some lore on Anna's powers: I had designed a character I used in one of my other series with fire-based powers and he, too, can generate fires and manipulate heat. When Anna ran off, her heat 'latched' onto the already existing heat that was present, making it hotter than it already was. Also, to clarify, when I said I was only using elements of Frozen that had been signed off on by the makers (ie: Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee and Peter Del Vecho) of the film, I had meant elements that had been confirmed canon, meaning while the prophecy I had mentioned in the first season was thrown out of the canon was realigned, it HAD been signed off on by Buck, Lee and Del Vecho initially, hence why I used it. R&R!
