Hello, my lovely readers. Who will Davina save a dance for? On with the show…
Chapter 8: More to the Story
Concentrating on a spell would be much easier than the task Davina Claire found herself met with. Hamlet. English class. And today everyone was asked to pick a section from one of Shakespeare's most famous plays and to explain what it meant to them.
"Should have taken the day off," Tim said, winking at Davina before moving to the front of the class.
Placing her chin on her cupped palm, Davina let out a low sigh. She wished that her friends were there. Monique would make some kind of joke about the whole challenge that the teacher had presented. Cassie would laugh at the jokes. Abigail would sit, quietly, trying to concentrate on her own turn but enjoying the presence of the other girls.
"To be, or not to be," Tim began and Davina's mind went back to the new information she'd collected about her own mystery.
If Hamlet's big thing was finding who killed his dad, Davina's big question was who and why did someone pop her into the life of Klaus Mikaelson? Did they think that Davina presented less of a threat to whoever they were? Did the other girl do something awful, and this was her punishment?
Davina began to draw the face of the girl she'd barely met. Eyes on the curve of the girl's lips and the slant of her nose, Davina did not notice any one coming toward her until she found a shadow obscuring her light.
"Can I help you?" Davina inquired, cocking her head and looking up at one of the girls who'd tormented her of late.
The girl smirked down at her. "Drawing of your next victim?" she inquired.
"Is it your face?" Davina retorted.
The other girl's smirk froze and she darted a glance over her shoulder. Gulping, she flipped her hair over her shoulder and made her way to the front of the class to do her own monologue and to explain it. The girl picked Gertrude and tried to explain that the queen was innocent of any wrong-doing in her late husband's death.
Yeah, going to be with his brother, like two seconds afterward spoke volumes of innocence. Davina shook her head and continued with her work. It did little to jump-start her deductive ability but it did help her wile away the time. Thankfully the class ended before Davina had to perform her public duty.
"Look who got lucky," Tim called, catching up with Davina in the hallway.
Davina grinned, spinning the lock on her locker and opening it. "Yeah. I am so lucky." Rolling her eyes, she tucked her hair behind her ear before adding. "I'll probably be the first one, next time."
"Maybe," Tim nodded. He looked nervous.
Closing her locker after locating the book for her algebra class, Davina turned to face Tim, leaning against the locker and smiled at him. "Are you going to tell me what's going on? Or do I have to do a spell and coax it out of you?"
Tim inhaled and grinned back at her. "I just wanted to remind you about the dance. Tonight. Kind of find out if you're maybe, possibly, going there…tonight." Dropping his head, Tim shook it and sighed. "I'm hopeless."
"You're not hopeless," Davina replied. "And, yes, I think I can come. At least for an hour."
"Really?" Tim perked right back up.
"Yeah." Davina could feel her mood changing already. She could and would find time for the dance tonight. The Mikaelsons could wait another ten hours. It wouldn't kill them. Hopefully.

"You can't go to the dance," Kol Mikaelson said, pacing up and down the length of the hallway as Davina put on lipstick. "You're in grave danger."
"From whom?" Davina retorted. She patted her back and Kol came over to slide her zipper up. He caught her eye in the mirror. "Come on, Kol. It's one night. One night with a boy I like. At a dance. Where I can be a normal girl. Please!"
"Davina! It is too dangerous!" Kol retorted, gripping Davina by the shoulders and staring down at her.
Davina smiled at him. "You worry too much." She said, turning around and patting his cheek. "It's sweet."
"Of course I worry, love. You're my only niece," Kol said solemnly.
"Not really," Davina muttered on her way to the dresser. She picked up a pair of pearl earring and popped them into her ears. When she realized how silent it had become in the room, Davina turned to see Kol staring at her. "What?"
"I don't understand what you mean, Davina," Kol said. He moved closer to her, his hands suddenly on her shoulders and his look deadly serious. She felt a chill up her backbone.
After spending so much time with Kol Mikaelson, she'd made the mistake of forgetting that he was a Mikaelson and that meant he was dangerous.
"I was kidding," Davina said, shrugging Kol's hands off her. "Maybe you need a night off, too."
"And if I am taking a night off, who will be watching you at your little dance, pray tell?" Kol demanded.
Davina smiled. "He should be here at any second."
Just as she spoke, Josh appeared in her doorway. "Josh is going to play chaperone," Davina informed Kol.
"You?" Kol cocked an eyebrow at Josh. "Him?" He asked Davina like she might be insane. "He can't protect you from the kinds of enemies that your family has amassed."
"I can make them laugh and then we can run like hell," Josh told Kol who rolled his eyes.
"You know that if something happens to you I will have to fend off, not one, but two bloody-thirsty hybrids? Yes?" Kol stared at Davina who looked to Josh. "You'd both better hope she comes home. In one piece."
"She will. Promise. Or I'll stake myself," Josh said.
Kol nodded. "You're bloody correct." Stalking past Josh, Kol ran into Josh's shoulder before Davina heard silence.
Seconds later, Josh relaxed. "He's gone. For now. You sure you know what you're doing here?" Josh asked.
"Yes. I am." Davina nodded. She felt giddy with excitement. Tonight she would have what she wanted since finding out she was a witch—a night like any other, normal girl. A night where she danced with a boy she liked. And no one from the supernatural community interfered with her happiness.
Sighing, Davina left her room and Josh followed her down the hallway. Aiden stood in the courtyard. "You brought a date?" Davina asked Josh, still smiling.
"Yup. That's cool, right?" Josh looked worried for a moment. "I never really got to go to the school dance with a boy before. Thought this might be a nice re-do moment."
"Of course," Davina said, lacing her arm through Josh's. "And if anyone tries to stop you; they'll have to deal with me."

Heading into the school's gym, Davina felt at the top of the world. No one and nothing could touch her. She scanned the silver and white balloons and the felt another pang for the friends who would not be joining her. She spotted the group of kids who had tormented her, but chose to walk in the opposite direction. She did not intend on dealing with their drama tonight.
Tim was on stage. Violin in hand, Tim strummed away at, completely absorbed with the sounds of his band and Davina moved to the side of the stage. When Tim spotted her, his smile made her heart flutter and she waved at him.
Nodding, Tim continued playing and Davina continued listening to him. Everything was coming together as she'd hoped it would in her old life, the one where Tim died at Klaus' hands. How could this world be so different? How could Klaus be so different? Being a father turned the monster into a man?
Another mystery to solve at a later date. Right now, there was good music, a punch bowl and people laughing and dancing around her. Josh and Aiden were dancing and Davina looked forward to when Tim got a break.
The current song ended and Tim said something to his fellow band members before he hopped off the stage. "Hey," he called.
"Hey," Davina replied, feeling shy.
"You look great," Tim said.
"You, too." Davina felt herself flush and laughed aloud.
Tim glanced at his suit jacket, button down shirt and slacks. "Yeah. Playing with a band means you'll be seen." Eyeing the students on the dance floor, Tim glanced at Davina. "Does that look like something you'd want to do? Because if you don't want to dance, we can drink punch instead."
"Are you kidding?" Davina shook her head. "We're totally dancing." She took Tim's hand and led him through the crowd.
Slipping her arms around his neck, Davina looked into Tim's eyes. She could feel herself feeling all of the old emotions. She could have loved Tim, forever. He was good and kind and sweet and deserved so much in this life.
"You like this song?" Tim asked her.
"Yes," Davina nodded.
"Cool. I kind of helped write it. For you," Tim told her.
Davina sighed. She pressed her ear to Tim's heart. Nothing could make this night better.
"Oh, my God!" a girl screamed and Davina looked over to see one of the members of the band. A stake had been run through him and he gasped, blood rolling down his chin and then everyone was screaming in terror.
"What is going on?" Tim cried, looking horrified as his friend slumped to the stage.
"Party's over!" Kol's voice came from Davina's right and her head spun.
"Tim!" Davina cried out, reaching for Tim, but Kol had picked her up and had begun to carry her toward the glowing exit sign. Tim was lost in the chaos of the crowd.
"Let me go!" Davina shouted at Kol the moment they were outside the gym. Her feet met the parking lot gravel. "Why did you do that? Tim could be dead because you left him behind!" Davina shrieked at Kol, her hand on her chest. It felt like the day she'd lost him—all over again—thanks to another Mikaelson brother.
"Tim's fine," Josh called, coming to join them. "Aiden's taking him home."
"Thank you!" Davina cried, burying her face in Josh's shoulder. Her relief did not last long. Kol's hand went down on her shoulder and she turned to glower at him. "What do you want?"
"We need to get you home. To safety," Kol told her, his tone holding a sense of urgency that annoyed Davina.
"Doesn't you family run toward danger?" Davina demanded. "My school was just attacked. And you want me to run?"
Kol sighed. "Look, Davina, this is not the time to argue."
"You're right. This is the time for answers. Now, let's go find the thing that did this." Davina turned her back on Kol and headed back toward the school's entrance.
Kol let out a much aggrieved sigh. "You'll be the end of me, Davina."
Rolling her eyes, Davina re-entered the school. She paused at the double doorway of the gym. There was an echoing silence that she did not like but she would not run away.
"Help me…" the girl who'd harassed Davina earlier choked out and Davina spotted her amongst a pile of bodies.
"It's a trap," Kol warned Davina, but Davina plowed ahead anyway.
Stooping beside the dying girl, Davina brushed the girl's dark hair from her face. "Did you see what did this to you?" she asked the girl.
"A…a…witch," the girl whispered and then she was gone.
Davina stood up. "Looks like we're going to go witch hunting."
"She said it was a witch?" Kol looked confused and his eyes scanned the area. "That makes little sense. Witches are usually not too messy in their work."
"Well, then I guess we got lucky that this one decided to make her message sloppy." Davina's eyes moved over the loss of life in the room that had brimmed with it not so long ago. "Let's send out our own message, shall we?"
"And what would that be?" Kol inquired.
"You don't mess with the Mikaelsons," Davina replied with a smirk.
Tonight could have been perfect, but someone was out to destroy her happiness and that person would pay. Davina had had enough with all of the mystery of this world and of being pushed around. She was going to find some answers and she would save the people who she cared for, and God help whoever got in her way.
