OH! AND HAPPY VALENTINE'S TO YOU ALL WONDERFUL READERS!
Conner was freaking out. He still had not found the perfect present for Cassie. It was the morning of Valentine's. He had made reservations at the most expensive restaurant in Metropolis, 'The Blue Skyline'. It was a restaurant that only the elite of the elite went to. But Clark had gotten reservations a month ago. He was planning on using it today, but Lois wanted to spend sometime out of the country so Clark had given Conner the Reservation.
He had everything planned. They would spend most of the afternoon hanging out around the city park. Then at six, they would both head home to get ready. At eight he was going to pick her up and they would fly to the restaurant. There was just one major problem. He didn't have a present.
He blamed the obsessive planning. He had been so caught up in making today perfect, that he had totally forgotten to get a present. He had spent the better half of the afternoon brainstorming ideas. But to nothing came to him. He had called Barbara. She had kind of become his best friend. They hung out a lot. They both felt very comfortable around each other. They both sometimes referred to one-another as siblings.
They had gotten closer ever since her accident with the Joker. He hoped she wasn't doing anything important. Today was Valentine's Day. She was probably hanging out with Dick. They were getting married in two months. They must've been busy. He called and it rang.
She picked up on the fifth ring, "Hey! What's up?"
"Hey. Umm. With all the planning I did for today," Conner nervously cleared his throat, "I sort of might've forgotten to get Cassie a gift."
There was silence on the other line, "Damn it Conner. You'll have to think of something fast."
"I know that's why I was calling you!"
"I don't have much time. Dick is getting all romantic today. I barely escaped from him. I don't know how much longer until he finds me."
"Okay? So any ideas?"
"Not really. Just get her something in her favorite color. I think I hear him. I got to go Conner. Good luck!"
"Bye Barbara," Conner sang before the line went dead. Getting Cassie something in red wasn't such a bad idea. He quickly went down to his suit vendor. He had almost a grand of cash in his pocket for any last minute shopping.
He walked into the store and the owner greeted him.
"Hello Mister Leicester. Could you get me a vest in a dark red?"
"Well of course Mr. Kent. I will have one in front of you in a bit," the older man said before he left to go find the vest. Conner knew what he was going to get Cassie. She was always talking about how much she loved bracelets. The jewelry store was only a couple blocks from this place. Conner was sure he could find the perfect necklace in time for Dinner.
"Here you go Mr. Kent. Same size as all the other ones."
"Thank you Mr. Leicester. How much do I owe you?"
The man warmly smiled at Conner, "Oh this is on the house Mr. Kent. I hope you enjoy today. Happy Valentine's Day!"
"Thanks you too Mr. Leicester!'
It was almost three. Him and Cassie would be hanging out in ten minutes. He decided to go back to his apartment and freshen up.
He flew To Cassie's apartment. He knocked and she opened the door. Behind her was a mess of stuff. Cassie had just begun college. She was taking a few advanced history classes. She was always doing homework.
"Hey Conner!"
"Hey Cassie," they kissed for a short time, "Are you ready to go to the park and feed the darn pigeons?"
"Yeah," she smiled at him, "Why don't you like the pigeons?"
"I just don't. They're always taking a crap on my crap. I know they do it on purpose too. Those birds are just malicious. "
She laughed. Her laughed always made Conner smiled. It was sweet and melodic.
The walked towards the park and spent most of the time talking about the team and the new additions. Conner was mentoring a hero, in a way. Her name was Courtney Whitmore. She was fifteen years old. Her alter ego was Stargirl. She was very kind and very strong. Her and Cassie were always hanging out.
Time eventually passed they both returned to their apartments to get ready for the date. Conner had two hours to go buy the bracelet.
He arrived at the jewelry store. He got a lot of condescending looks from the female workers at the store. One of the nicer ones approached him, "Forgot to get her a gift?"
Conner raised his eyebrow, "Yes. I've been planning for the perfect day that a gift completely slipped my mind."
"Well. What are you looking for Mr.….?" she asked.
"Conner. Please call me Conner, "He looked around, "I'm looking for a silver bracelet that would have a beautiful red ruby on the middle."
"Wow. That's specific. Okay. Well our bracelets are over there. You can take a look by yourself. I see another young man who forgot to buy a gift. Call if you need anything Conner."
Conner was left alone. He walked over to the bracelets. Even with his super vision, it still took him ten minutes to find the perfect bracelet. It was silver Bracelet with diamonds accented around it. On the middle was a red ruby that. The bracelet reflected the light very well. He paid and left.
He went back to his apartment and took another shower. He groomed himself and applied cologne. He spent most of the time watching some Doctor Who re-runs.
There were thirty minutes left when he put on his suit. The red vest looked perfect on him. He looked, as Alfred would say, rather dashing. He put the box with the bracelet in his pocket and left. He was taking his car. He decided not to fly since it was near her apartment. And flying in a dress is hard.
When he arrived, it was fifteen minutes till eight. He knocked on her door. Good thing she was on the bottom floor. When she opened her door, Conner couldn't help but stare. She was wearing a black dress that hugged her body and all the right places. Her hair fell gently across her shoulders. She looked beautiful.
"Oh goodness Cassie, " he said, "You look beautiful."
Cassie flushed and smiled, "Thanks Conner. You look very handsome too."
They drove to the restaurant. When he stepped inside he was awestruck. Even though it was dark outside, the restaurant was painted in beautiful hues of blue. It made the illusion of a dark blue skyline. Hence their name.
He told them he had a reservation and they were taken to a table. He ordered a big ol sirloin steak. She ordered the extra-large lobster. Being superheroes really increased their metabolism. They ate and talk about their lives and the future.
They finished their food and paid and left.
They decided to go to his apartment. It was late at night and they had somehow ended up on the roof.
Conner looked at her, he had momentarily forgotten about the gift, "Hey. Cassie. I got you something."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out the tiny box that held the bracelet. He gave it to Cassie. His face never left hers. She opened the box and gasped. She slowly took out the bracelet and put it on. She admired it and smiled at Conner.
"Thank you. It's so beautiful. This must've cost you a fortune," She replied.
"Yeah. But it was worth your reaction!" he chuckled.
Cassie stood up and went over to her clutch. She slowly pulled out a small package and gave it to Conner, "It's not much. But I hope you like it."
Conner carefully opened it. He inspected the small envelope. He slid it open and he pulled out a photo. It was off him and Cassie. It was when they had first gone to Paris. Conner was holding Cassie. Paris's skyline lay behind them. The picture was amazing. There were words written on the back of it. He quickly recognized Cassie's handwriting.
Hey Kon. Remember this day. This was on our one-year anniversary. Can you believe we've been together for almost four years now? Anyway. I found this picture a couple months ago. I had loved that night. We had spent most of the day wandering through the Louvre. You always knew I loved art. Remember when that duck decided to sit with us at the park. You wanted to bring him back. That had been an amazing day Conner. You are amazing. And I'm so lucky to have you. I love you. Yours truly, Cassie Sandsmark.
"I love it. It was beautiful."
She beamed at him, "I'm glad you did Conner."
Conner inched closer to her and kissed her. He loved the girl that he was holding in his arms so much.
"I love you Cassie."
"I love you too Conner."
They both fell asleep looking at stars.
Hope you loved it! Please leave reviews! And lots of them! Also thanks to the people who read and review on this story! Thanks readers!
