Casey's POV
It was 6:04 PM, and we were finally in Switzerland. After a 10 hour flight, the only thing I wanted to do was get to a bed far far away from Marti, who had been screaming the whole flight. George called for a taxi, and we drove for about 45 minutes on small snow-covered dirt roads to get to our resort. But when we arrived, I was astonished.
The resort lobby was a large wood cabin that was beautifully done. There were asphalt roads leading from the lobby all around the property to the rooms where people stayed. And if you looked way up the road, there was the ski lift leading to the main mountain. There was a huge outdoor ski rink next to the gift shop, and the indoor pool was about a hundred feet from that. This place is absolutely incredible.
We walked to the lobby and checked in at the front desk. While the concierge was finding the keys for our rooms, I looked around the lobby. There was a set of comfy-looking chairs and sofas positioned around a huge flat screen TV, and in the corner, there was a hot chocolate bar, with actual hot chocolate, not just the stuff that comes out a package. There were five different kinds of marshmallows, and candy canes and whipped cream for toppings. In the opposite corner was where the resort served its buffet-style meals three times a day. It was dinner time now, so there were huge platters of food like veal, chicken, and potatoes. There were also plates of the world famous Swiss cheese and Swiss chocolate.
I was admiring the large stone fireplace when someone tapped me on the shoulder. I turned to see a boy who had blond hair and tan skin. He looked like he was 19 or so. He was actually kind of cute.
"Are you lost?" The boy asked in a faint Swiss accent.
"Oh, no, my family is right here..." I said, looking behind me, expecting to see George still standing there talking to the concierge. But everyone was gone. I didn't know where they were, they had just left me.
"It seems as though your family has left you," The boy said with a smile on his face. His teeth were perfectly white and straight. Impressive.
"It seems they have," I responded, smiling as well. The boy chuckled.
"I'm Oskar," he told me. "I work here."
"Really?" I asked. "What do you do?"
"I deliver room service. I'm kinda like a waiter, I guess," Oskar said, blushing.
I giggled quietly. "I'm Casey. I'm on vacation here, but I guess I lost my family. I don't even know where our rooms are."
Oskar looked concerned. "I can look it up for you, if you'd like."
"Really? That'd be awesome," I responded. "Can a waiter do that?"
"If I'm quiet enough I can," Oskar responded. What was that supposed to mean?
Oskar walked up to the front desk and said a few words to the concierge. Immediately, the concierge left the desk and ran outside into the cold, snowy evening. Oskar went through a small door next the door, and a few minutes later, was behind the desk. Oskar looked around to see if anyone was watching, then got onto the computer sitting on the desk.
"What's your last name?" Oskar asked me.
"Uh, try Venturi." I spelled it out for him and he typed some stuff into the computer.
"Here they are. Rooms 12, 13, and 14 in Cabin 3. I'll take you there, if you want."
I smiled. "That'd be great."
We walked out of the lobby into the cold air and I immediately started to shiver in the cold air.
"You cold?" Oskar asked. I nodded my head. "Let me help," he said, putting his arm around my shoulder. I felt his warmth and I instantly felt better.
Was Oskar flirting with me?
Less than two minutes later, we were at Cabin 3. It was built just like the main lobby, but much bigger. We walked up the steps onto the porch.
"I had a good time helping you find your way," Oskar said, chuckling. I smiled.
"It was nice meeting you," I said.
Before I knew what was happening, he leaned over and kissed me on the cheek. I must've looked shocked, because when he pulled away, he looked really embarrassed and uncomfortable. But I showed a smile as to say "it's ok".
He smiled too, then waved goodbye and walked away quickly. Did that really just happen?
I walked up to the rooms and entered room 12. There was Mom and George on the bed spooning. I wrinkled my nose and looked away. When Mom noticed I was standing there, she quickly got off the bed and walked over to me.
"Casey! I've been looking all over for you!" She said.
"Yeah, I can tell you were looking really hard," I said, pointing to the bed.
"You're in room 14 with Lizzie and Marti. Good luck with that," Mom said, smiling. She said a quick goodbye and shut the door.
I walked to my room and crawled into a bed with Lizzie. I tried to go to sleep, but one question kept running through my head.
Derek or Oskar?
