Dragons or My Love?
Chapter 8
Charlie:
Charlie blinked a couple times.
What was she lying about and why did she almost say she was a liar? He was beyond confused, and this is why he should just stick with what he knew best; dragons. It was better than anything else. After all, dragons are simple and easy to understand. Unlike girls. He shook his head, sticking his hands into his pockets as he took a look around before looking back at the object of question and maybe his affection as well.
Blaire nodded, sighing, "Of course, I was," she whispered. Why was she whispering all of a sudden? He furrowed his eyebrows but kept silent. She bit her lip before she mumbled, "Your eyes have always made me want to tell the truth, why do they have to be so bloody gorgeous," she asked herself rather than Charlie. He simply frowned in response because he was more confused now than ever before.
"Well," he cleared his throat a bit, "What were you really thinking or would you just rather not tell me," he asked, not wanting to make things more awkward than they really needed to be. Though, he had a feeling they were going to get awkward anyway. Blaire seemed extremely mad at him and he didn't have a clue why. Usually if somebody was angry at him, he knew straight away and he was usually sure of the reason why. But now he's simply stumped, unsure of why and that worried him slightly.
So what now? He wasn't sure what to say. Maybe if he said sorry it would all go away?
He must have sounded angry because she suddenly sounded defensive. "Why are you getting mad?" She looked positively livid. Charlie wanted to run away and go crawl into a hole and maybe stay there forever. "I am sorry for lying but you can't really blame me," she said, "It's your fault you have nice eyes that make me want to tell you the truth. They make me want to spill everything inside of me. They make me want to tell you my deepest, darkest secrets," she added in a loud voice.
Charlie went to open his mouth but it was clear she wasn't finished. He bit back his tongue. He didn't even know what to say.
"If you're really curious about what I was really thinking and what I really feel then maybe you should get to know me!" She shouted and Charlie flinched back. He frowned deeply and went to reach out towards her back she stepped back, shaking her head.
"I'm just so…annoyed," she said. "I bloody well love you and I can't even tell you because you only love the dragons!"
She looked annoyed and angry and Charlie just swallowed. He didn't have much time to take in her words because she was still shouting at him. He couldn't really blame her either.
"Dragons; they're who you want. It's as if one day they'll come and love you back! The facts are cute but did you mother ever just…get you away from the books?" Blaire asked, quietly in an annoyed manner. She couldn't really say much without snapping at him constantly. Charlie could see that and he accepted it. He was being a bit of a jerk, maybe.
Charlie stopped walking, scrunching up his nose as he began to list of things as he saw as he comprehended all of what she just said. "Wait," he started. "First off; I wasn't mad nor am I mad now," he said, firstly. "Now, secondly; you love me?" Yeah, that one barely registered if he was being honest. "Third off, I am sorry, really, genuinely sorry, I've got a passion for the dragons," he said. "And my mum does have seven kids she can't really focus on 'getting me away from the books'. So, I guess you don't really love me," he said.
He heard her take a sharp intake of breath.
Harsh but true.
"Because if you really did like you claim to be, you wouldn't be snapping at me right now," he said and then he turned to walk away from her. He left her there, probably hurt and upset but he couldn't find a reason to care just yet. Who was she to snap at him like that?
"Of course she has seven kids, Charlie," she replied back and Charlie stopped. "But your life revolves around dragons and that's not even healthy," she said. "I can't believe I fell for somebody who can't love anybody!" She said more to herself than him, which he understood. "At least you have a family though! Why are you taking it for granted," she grumbled. "If you bothered to get to know me you'll understand. I know all about you, I love every little bit of you, Charlie Weasley. I'm only snapping because you'll never love me back!" Blaire shot back, "I'm worthless," she added.
She ran in the opposite direction to get away from him as quick as possible. He could walk but fuck it, she was going to run. She wanted to hightail it out of there as quick as possible and get back to her dorm to forget that this happened at all. She'd cry herself to sleep and hope it was all some bad nightmare.
Charlie shook his head. Who was she to say he could never love anybody? He loved his family and maybe, even her, too. His life may resolved mostly around the dragons but it wasn't true. Blaire liked dragons but she probably loved Charlie more and that made his heart ache.
What did he ever do to get somebody as amazing as her to fall in love with him despite how he is?
He frowned, he took a deep breath before he ran after her. He yelled her name but she ignored it. He shook his head. He's got to try harder than that, doesn't he?
"You're not worthless, Blaire Ashville!"
He ignored the fact that she knew a lot about him which was sort of creepy to be honest but she obviously did love him. Now he's gone and upset her and he needed to fix things, quickly.
"I'm sorry," he yelled after her. By the time he caught up to her, he turned her around so that she could face him. "I really, truly, am sorry," he whispered. "I've spent too much time reading books and not enough time enjoying my life."
"That's damn right," she replied, jerking away from him. "If you don't let go and reprioritise your life, you'll never see that maybe life has some things a little better for you than those cute creatures." She stepped forward a bit, towards him. Surprisingly to her, Charlie stayed quiet as she continued to talk. "Believe me, if I let my life revolve around them, I'd become intolerable. You're just lucky you're a boy, you're cute and you're a Weasley," she said.
"People don't ignore you but I'm not one of them and I get ignored quite a lot. I'm not saying I want to be a boy or a Weasley but I sure don't want to be ignored," she said, truthfully. Charlie felt his heart leap out of his chest. Who was ignoring this beautiful girl?
Blaire stepped forward, boldly, so their faces were merely inches from each other. She leaned up on her tippy-toes, whispering, "I'll you one night of fun, nothing to do with dragons, book, school, the future or anything; it's pure, unadulterated fun," she smiled and god, her smile was radiating like the sun. She looked beyond beautiful and he felt his breath get caught in his throat.
How the hell had he got so lucky to be her object of affections?
He couldn't hide the frown as she moved back, out of his comfort zone. He was really like it when she was invading it but whatever.
His mind raced a mile a minute, simply about everything she'd just said. Dragons. School. The future. Everything she promised that one night with her would not consist of.
"Okay, I definitely need one night of fun," he said as he began to smile. He didn't want his life to revolve around dragons, not really. He loved them but they didn't need to be everything his life was about. He saw Blaire smirk and he knew he was in for one hell of a ride. "Of course, you need to get out more. Isn't that what I'm here for," she teased.
How had they gotten from fighting to teasing each other?
He didn't know and he didn't really need to know. As long as she was smiling, he'll take what he can get, that's for sure.
"What do you mean when you say 'one night of fun'?"
